1. EC: Yes, we have the body here, [1052].

2. Now, as we find, there are disturbances that prevent the normal functioning, the normal activities through the physical forces of this body. These, as we find, are rather of an insidious nature, causing effects that produce disturbances in the functioning of organs; more specific in the sensory forces, but producing a reaction also in other portions of the body.

3. These, then, are the conditions as we find them with this body, [1052] we are speaking of:

4. First, IN THE BLOOD SUPPLY, we find there are indications of disturbances in the mucous membranes of the head, and that the nature of same is catarrhal. Then, by the form of resistances made by the nature of the disorder upon the mucous membranes, there is a drying condition which has existed, does exist, through the antrum and the nasal passages. Thus disturbances are caused that make for an effluvium in the blood supply that produces distresses to the organs of the system that find themselves rather in the form of nervous reactions through the body. Through this same activity there is produced at times an upsetting in the digestive forces of the body itself. Thus periods are caused when there is some disturbance in the eliminations, by the very nature of these; producing a drying, as it were, through the alimentary canal, thus making for lack of the peristaltic movement through same. At others there is the reverting to those influences as to produce toxic forces of the nature that become gas forming; thus making for disturbances that arise from the same principal or basic cause that has been indicated in the soft tissue of the face.

5. IN THE NERVE REACTIONS, we find there is a disturbance produced through the centers or ganglia from which these portions of the body receive their reactions from the cerebrospinal and sympathetic systems, in their coordinated activity. Thus impulses are caused that make for fears of the nature where the body - if peering over cliffs or large places - becomes dizzy; or certain characters of movements make for periods of nausea or of activity that produces fear in the very activities themselves of the system. These are rather nervous reflexes.

6. IN THE ORGANS OF THE BODY ITSELF, as indicated, the greater portion of the basis or cause arises from disturbances in the tissue of the nasal passages; and the antrum and the soft tissue of the head.

7. Hence we have an evolvement from same of a strain upon the Eustachian tubes themselves, thus producing to the auditory forces the responses that lack the proper coordination - or a tendency for the drying of tissue, or the keeping of an unbalancing. First the disturbance became apparent to the auditory forces by singings, or poppings in the ears. Now more and more there are those activities towards the LACK of their becoming coordinant; and sound as at a distance, or again as an OVERFLOW or a roar. These are the disturbances that arise from this conditions as we find in those portions of the system.

8. The throat, the bronchi and lungs and larynx, naturally from the very nature of these, we find tendencies for a circulation that becomes disturbed at times. Hence we find the body easily susceptible to cold or to change or to heat or to those effects of an over stimulating of a diet, as we have indicated from disturbances through the digestive forces. Hence an irritation or a rasping at times occurs from the cold that may affect the bronchi and the upper portion or a portion of the lung forces themselves. However, as we find, if these were removed in the present there would be prevented the inroads or the affecting of organs themselves in such a way and manner as to cause gradual disturbance. Yet it leaves a tendency, or the body is SUSCEPTIBLE to germ forces or natures that may set up themselves to become destructive forces by the inability of the blood supply to produce the plasm that would encase or destroy same. Hence we have those conditions both specific and of susceptible or bodily conditions of such natures as to become susceptible to exterior influences, or those effects of pollens or other conditions that make for these tendencies upon the sympathetic system - as indicated through the very unbalanced conditions as produced in the body.

9. Heart’s activity near to normal, considering the general conditions.

The digestive forces, as indicated, are upset from the influences of the flow; not only through the circulatory forces but by those tendencies of the assimilation or the flow of the mucous through the throat and those portions of the body to absorb or to take in particles that become destructive to the stomach tissues, or making for an involvement throughout the alimentary canal.

11. As to the organs of the digestive forces - the liver, spleen, pancreas and the activities of the ducts or glands that make for the secretions - these under a normal stimuli function near to normal; though distresses at times and tendencies exist there.

12. THEN, IN MAKING FOR CORRECTIONS, AS WE WOULD FIND FOR THIS BODY, [1052] we are speaking of:

First we would use those applications of heat as may be applied through the use of the nasal passages of the Elliot Appliance, that may make for an adding of those influences through such heat that will take away the abilities of those destructive forces - that arise from the catarrhal effect upon the system itself.

14. And then we would make for corrections in a nature where osteopathic administrations or adjustments would loosen those tissues where there are the effects upon the eustachian tubes. We would then find the auditory forces responding, as the balance of force is created in the body itself.

15. We find that there would be little necessity of medications internally, save those that may be of the nature that would be absorbing in their effect upon the body; as in very small quantities of Milk of Bismuth with Elixir of Lactated Pepsin that might be taken occasionally for their desirable effect that these will produce upon the gastric flow of the stomach itself. These would be taken only when there are those effects of a gastric flow that is disturbing to the system.

16. These do, and - as we find - we would bring near to normal conditions for this body.

17. As to how often, as to how long these applications would be made with the heat - until there is a dissolving of and eliminations are set up sufficient through the drainages established by the manipulative forces as to rid the system of the causes of the condition. And then once, possibly twice may be the necessity for the breaking loose of tissue that has become involved along the Eustachian tubes. These may not necessitate the full finger surgery activity, if the release is made by the heat - but sufficient of the manipulations to set up a stimulation for proper drainages to be established from the sensory organs of the body, and the eliminations through the alimentary canal, the respiratory system, the activities of the hepatic circulation and the perspiratory system coordinated.

20. (Q) Has previous illness at time back affected hearing? (A) Only made the body, as it were, more supersensitive to the effects of the condition that has for long existed there.

21. (Q) Please explain why hearing is clearer when riding in an automobile? (A) VIBRATIONS as are set up by any activities. Just as it is over the phone! The effect is upon the sympathetic nervous system attempting to carry those influences or impulses that are rather or more affected by the cerebro-spinal impulse. This will disappear gradually.

The manipulations, of course, will be from the upper portion of the 8th and 9th dorsal to the base of the brain.

22. (Q) Will the hearing be restored? (A) More than eighty percent restored from the disturbance in the present.

It is now at about a sixty percent; so eight-five percent of the forty percent would be near to normal.

R1. GD’s note: Notes [i.e. 1052-1 Rdg.] were not transcribed and mailed until April 15, 1936, because it was following this reading, when we all went into the living room, that the arrest of EC was made for “practising medicine without a license,” charges having been filed by the father of Case [1061] whose reading was given on Nov. 21st. My notebook was held in court. However, enough was remembered of the reading for Mrs. [601] to tell Dr. [1052]‘s wife that the Elliott Machine had been recommended, and that it was being used in N.Y. by Dr. I. Daniel Shorell.

R2. 12/31/35 Mrs. [601]‘s daughter, Mrs. [480], wrote: “Through Dr. [1052]‘s wife we found out a few things that you can take at face value. Dr. Shorell had sent Dr. [1052] his circular a few years ago - i.e. to restore hearing. Dr. [1052] investigated Shorell and found that he had been suspended by the Medical Association for malpractice - he was an abortionist. He is no doubt trying to make a ‘come-back’ thru the use of the Elliott Machine, for curing deafness. Luckily we had not seen our friends here (who also had the machine recommended), so I did not give Dr. Shorell as an example of an M.D. interested in your work. Nevertheless, Shorell must be doing a lot of good if they have permitted him to go on.”

R3. 1/3/36 GD’s ltr. to Mrs. [480]:

[480], I can’t understand about that information regarding Dr. Shorell. I don’t see how he could have been suspended from the American Medical Association and still be getting his stuff printed in the American Medicine magazines. And from what I’ve seen written and heard about his work, he has done wonders for women through that Elliot treatment. You remember I told you about the five hundred clinical cases at Bellevue Hospital in New York. He specializes in cases where women are suffering from the after effects of childbirth, where nothing can help save an operation - unless the Elliot treatment is used. Of course, I don’t know where Dr. Cohen got his information - it may be authentic. But if Dr. Shorell had been suspended by the American Medical, I don’t think he would have been so insistent that WE go THROUGH the American Medical with all our products and appliances, as HE was doing. In my opinion, the American Medical is a big racket. There’s so much jealousy among the profession, if one doctor sees another doing something that is new or different he immediately suspects something and notifies the American Medical. I know of one case in Peoria, Ill., where an elderly physician, whom we have never met but who sought information through a reading for his son, was suspended from the American Medical because he used a Wet Cell Appliance. He was a beloved physician in his home town, too, and had done much good. It was simply a case of jealousy on the part of a younger doctor, who wanted to make headway in the town.

According to many so-called physicians, a thing just isn’t so until it is okayed by the American Medical - and yet a thing has to be tried out by a physician before it is presented to the American Medical; and in that experimental stage before it is presented, if the man gets caught it’s just too bad! I DO know that Dr. Shorell has done much good, especially during the last few years, in cases of female disorders (where everything else had failed), sinus, mastoid, antrum, blindness, rectal and prostate disorders, and - recently - deafness. But, as the saying goes, “he that hath ears to hear, let him hear.” It’s what we WANT to hear that we usually hear anyway, whether we are deaf or not. Here’s an extract from Miss [954]‘s letter [12/30/35] that I think will be interesting (it includes something on the American Medical also), and it shows how she feels about “our” publicity programs:

“I have some mighty definite ideas on the Detroit situation, which I hope to get across to Hugh Lynn when he comes to New York. You see - every martyrdom offers its opportunity for education. You have only to throw your mind back over history to realize that in the suffering of an individual people learned both the good and the bad in some general piece of liberation. Galileo - Martin Luther - Danton - and back further into the ages of Jesus.

“Now the tight grip of the American Medical Association ought to be loosened. Clever contact publicity with the newspaper men who will handle this case could make the case a form of education for the public on that score. Look at what the association does to osteopaths, to chiropractors, and did to those who introduced electric therapy which they shortly took up to turn into dollars for their own pockets.

“You see, every cause and every utility and every big business has its publicity people spreading its message today. In drama and in the resultant news, the best opportunities come to spread truth. I think it is very possible that the Association is backing the man who brought these charges. My own Dr. Leaonard, who has been arrested himself, agrees with me.

“But whether or not the fighting attitude is taken, the trial still will offer opportunity for explanations of psychic matters through proper contact with newspaper men. It must be remembered that newspapermen tell the story they hear - or think they hear. If you can give them a BETTER one they will tell that. And I think Mr. Cayce has a better one to tell than the one they will learn at the trial unless the lawyer himself has by now become interested in the matter and is studying up on the general broad subject. The lawyer has a great opportunity in this case - if he sees it.”

I think she’s right. Even Dr. Carrel, if he weren’t at the HEIGHT of his profession, would probably be suspended from the A.M.A. As it is, he may be called “nutty in his old age” by those who aren’t intelligent enough to grasp the situation. But, all in all, we can only do our best from moment to moment; having faith that “the right will out.”

After Hugh Lynn goes to New York and talks with members of the Board, I hope we can get a reading as to our plan of procedure in Detroit. It seems to me that the whole thing has come about for a far-reaching purpose [1/13/36 See 254-89]; otherwise we would have been warned beforehand.

When we are there, I think the best plan would be for you to have your doctor friend come in and hear Mr. Cayce talk, especially hear him tell the experience he had with the Kentucky Medical Board years ago - when he decided then and there that he would go alone, and not depend on the M.D.’s. I believe the medical men, as a whole, have a great “fall from grace” coming; otherwise, the readings wouldn’t continue to suggest more than two-thirds osteopathy. When they let jealousy, greed and desire for personal power overshadow their desire to serve - really SERVE humanity, then they are already beginning to fall; and they did that - as a whole - years ago, when Mr. Cayce’s work was first beginning.

R4. 1/7/36 Mrs. [480]‘s ltr.: “[954]‘s ltr. was most timely. She is right. Can she do anything from N.Y. to stimulate interest here in Mr. Cayce’s story? You are perfectly right about financial gains turning M.D.s’ heads away from their real purpose, but don’t you think it is the ‘small’ men themselves who make the A.M.A. seem even smaller. There are good things the A.M.A. can do, and to some extent has done, but the A.M.A. is merely a body of M.D.’s and there lies the sore spot. Each one is looking out for himself. Dr. Alexis Carrel is a great man - and it is true that his position saves him. It was just a short time ago that he was berated for his views on death and future man. So, you see, even he cannot avoid criticism and evoke tirades. Imagine the hullabaloo if he should present Mr. Cayce - those will have to be revolutionary times on this earth.”

R5. 1/12/36 Miss [954]‘s ltr.: “What have you that I may use to interest one of New York’s finest specialists in our Work on DEAFNESS. I had to return to this man during my septic throat siege - told him of the Work - and of a machine [Elliot machine] which I believe was created for a doctor to help the deaf. Am I right in remembering that? He’s an important guy in the Medical Association, yet reacted not at all badly to my talk of Mr. Cayce’s work. His name is Hetrick in case you have ever contacted him. I am anxious to win him - he might be very useful - he is head of the Dept. of Eye, Ear etc. - at Flower Hospital (homeopathic).

Machines of this type (deafness) if any recorded in our Bulletins, would be very interesting to him. I want to avoid showing him too much that includes manipulative treatments until I get him pepped up more -

“My success in getting a favorable reaction from Dr. Hetrick (conservative of conservatives) makes me think that if every member of the Association took the aggressive attitude that we have something to GIVE - used every illness to introduce this work to a NEW physician - avoided even hiring (and I use HIRE - that’s all we do) men who consider the Work as slapstick - we’d get along faster.”

R6. 1/18/36 GD’s Ltr. to [954]:

In answer to your question as to what the Work has presented on DEAFNESS, I hardly know how to begin. I believe the best plan would be to list a few cases we have had, describing the TYPE of deafness - according to the reading - and the treatment recommended. I suppose deafness is like so many other ailments; there are so many KINDS, and naturally one mode of treatment wouldn’t do for all. So, if your Dr. Hetrick would be interested enough to investigate, I believe he would find it better to pick out a case and treat it according to the reading suggestions - whatever they might be. But here’s a brief outline of a few cases of deafness we have had, that I can remember:

432-1 - About 15% normal hearing; reflex from disturbed condition in lungs, digestion, nerve centers, preventing proper circulation thru head and neck to remove drosses; thru repression to 3rd, 4th dorsal, 2nd, 3rd and 4th cervical centers. Treatment suggested: Animated Ash (see copy of letter [which was attached], explaining what the Ash is), followed by Ultra-violet Light over specific spinal (lung) area - this to revivify blood stream thru releasing oxygen internally. Specific blood building diet. Tonic (wild herbs) for digestive system. After a certain period, Osteopathic Finger Surgery to break up conditions where eustachian tubes had fallen. Also Wet Cell Appliance (as explained in article on Mechanical Appliance sent you sometime ago), with anode attachments to 3rd dorsal and 1st cervical. Normal health was promised, and greater percent of hearing. I might add that in the reading the cause was given as being overexposure in times back, particularly to the feet, which later affected the digestive area, the nervous system - and circulation. That’s why, in readings, it is so hard to get a specific remedy without taking the whole body into consideration. However, if a physician sought information through a reading, asking technical questions as to each type of deafness, I’m sure he could get a great deal that would be very helpful. In this case, the man did not follow the reading - he was given too much to do; he was using an ear phone and getting along very nicely; in fact, he shouldn’t have gotten a reading in the first place.

1076-1 - Slightly deaf; catarrhal disturbance in soft tissue of face, thru slowed circulation. Treatment suggested: Osteopathic Finger Surgery only. (Dr. M. L. Richardson, Bankers Trust Bldg., Norfolk, Va., is the best in the country for this type of treatment, and you can get full particulars from him.) This was a recent case, and we’ve had no report yet.

668-1 - About 50% normal hearing. Osteopathic Finger Surgery. Condition overcome entirely. Perfectly normal hearing.

413-3 - Slight deafness; roaring in ears. Hand violet ray machine, vibrator, to equalize circulation. Entirely eliminated.

[960] - A boy twelve years old; couldn’t hear at all. Reading described the condition as PSYCHIC deafness; that is, in a former incarnation he had “deafened his ears to the cries of the people.” Treatment suggested: Prayer at his bedside EACH night, for a year, by BOTH parents; and POSITIVE constructive suggestion to him as he dropped off to sleep. He’s entirely free from the condition now, and leads his classes.

[1052] - Very deaf; scar tissue accumulations Treatment suggested: Elliot Machine (See American Medicine, Nov. 1934 issue [Par. R7 below]) in combination with Osteopathic Finger Surgery.

There’s no doubt about it, the readings DO stress Osteopathy; and Osteopathic Finger Surgery for eye, ear, nose and throat conditions. I suppose this is because most of such conditions are merely effects of some other disorder in the body and not the cause; so finger surgery can set up drainages in those areas and give relief, while the major condition - or cause - may have to be removed by some other method of treatment.

Then there is the case, of course, that was cured instantly - while Mr. Cayce was giving her reading. It was a case of suppression; she had psychic ability and was squelched - hence when her husband sought information through a psychic source to aid her, she was released - and could hear.

There are many, many cases we’ve had; but in most instances Osteopathic Finger Surgery is recommended, or the Elliot treatment, or both. But always, as you know, there is a general round of treatment to be followed, which may not be limited to any one school; that is, one patient may need osteopathy, medical attention, hydrotherapy, Christian Science, etc. It all depends on the INDIVIDUAL need. Do you think Dr. Hetrick would be interested in receiving our monthly Bulletin? If so, give me his exact address and I’ll put him on the list. Or had you rather present to him each time the things you think he needs? or can use?

No, in MY day, I don’t recall any information ever having been given for a hearing aid. You mean the ear phone? I imagine such could be gotten. Anything for the good of humanity could be obtained, I’m sure, if approached in the correct manner.

Yes, I certainly agree with you about the correct approach of the Association members to physicians; that’s been a great hindrance all along - so many members approach physicians feeling already themselves that they’ve broken an unwritten law, instead of approaching - as you say - with the idea that they have found something to help the physician as well as themselves.

R7. 11/34 American Medicine article about the Elliot Machine:

A NEW CURATIVE TREATMENT FOR DEAFNESS

I. Daniel Shorell, M.D. New York, N.Y.

Any curative treatment for the alleviation of deafness is important. At the present time, there is no adequate curative method. For this reason the author wishes to present the following report of his treatment for deafness which appears to be curative, or in some cases beneficial. So far the results have been uniformly good.

Hearing has gained little or nothing as regards a solid curative therapy in recent years. Otologists have contributed almost nothing to sufferers of catarrhal deafness despite the astounding figures that show ninety per cent or more of deafness to be of that type. The aurist still clings to the antiquated method introduced by Politzer over fifty years ago. The scope of the treatment is limited and the benefits doubtful. The specialists must needs despair when confronted with a case of chronic catarrhal deafness, and the honest aurist will frankly so admit. Therefore the therapy being inadequate in such cases, it has become the earnest purpose of this paper to give to the profession a new therapy for curative and preventive treatment of such deafness.

The method defined consists of a “combination” of two distinct therapies:

A. THERMOSTATIC.

B. VIBRATORY RESONANCE.

One is an integral part of the other and dependent on it.

The thermostatic treatment consists of dry heat. This is accomplished by a machine which propels a heated solution through distensible rubber tubes inserted into the entire length of the nasal cavities. By this means the “Catarrhal Condition” of the entire hearing tract extending from the middle ear to the inner ear, and the Eustachian tube is relieved. There is a subsidence of the inflammatory condition; improvement in the circulation; reduction of the congestion and a rejuvenation of the terminal auditory nerves. Further, the heat produces a flexibility and limbering of the tympanum, the bony ossicles, the various ankyloses, the tightened ligaments, and the stagnant fluid endolymph. The thermostatically prepared structures are then ready for the second major therapy, the object being to cause them to respond to a vibratory influence. This is accomplished by the use of “Regulated Oscilatory Resonance.” Sound resonance of varied volume and frequencies are applied through the outer ear. This manifests itself by ether vibrations of the air. Such vibrations on reaching the outer ear are transposed into mechanical motion through the middle ear until it reaches the auditory nerve which translates it and telegraphs it to the hearing center in the brain. Thus sound conduction is again made possible.

PROCEDURE:

A. Thermostatic:-

Lubricated rubber catheters are simultaneously inserted into the nasal cavities until they reach the hard palate. The catheter is about six inches long and half an inch in diameter. Shorter rubber tubes are inserted into the outer ear to the tympanum. The tubes are made of a thin distensible composition rubber. Except for the very tip, it is partitioned so that a solution can enter through the one side and leave through the other. The catheters are attached to a machine so that hot water can be propelled by a compressor pump and returned to its source by a suction pump. The water is raised to any desired temperature by an electric heater and is accurately maintained or regulated by a rheostat. Regulatory valves allow the pressure to be set at one to three pounds. The heated solution never leaves the catheter.

In this way dry heat is evenly radiated to adjacent and contiguous structures through the entire length of the auditory canal and Eustachian tube.

Treatment is begun at 112 to 115 degrees F. The temperature is permitted to rise 1 degree F. each minute and a half until it reaches 122 to 128 degrees F. This slow ascension in temperature permits comfort to the patient and a slow increase in circulation. Thus the body thermal system has ample opportunity to adjust itself without destruction of tissue cells. After reaching a well tolerated maximum temperature, the treatment is maintained for fifteen to twenty minutes. It is well to remember that each individual will tolerate heat best at various levels. This detail must not be overlooked. Great caution should be exercised in starting the heat at a low enough temperature, raising it to a temperature well borne by the patient, and maintained for not too long a period. Experience with the individual reaction to heat will dictate the modus operandi.

Heat thus applied produces a marked hypermia with the corresponding dialation of the blood vessels. The blood and lymph circulations are speeded up. With elevation in temperature of the tissues, a leucocytosis supervenes, resulting in a resorption of exudate and infiltrations, destruction of bacteria, dissolution of pathological tissue, a subsidence of congestion, a removal and outpouring of pus and waste products - all resulting in a return to normalcy of tissues.

The mechanical effect on the outlet of the Eustachian tube is a flattening and widening of the orifice. This tends to establish better drainage of the secretions of the mucous membranes lining the middle ear and Eustachian tubes. “Relieving the catarrhal condition and establishing better drainage,” produce the essential “equalization of middle ear air pressure.” This is essential in order that the tympanum may be free to respond to the delicate ether vibrations set up by the speaking voice.

B. Vibratory Resonance:-

The thermostatically prepared hearing mechanism as described above is now ready for the next step in the therapy.

Ear phones leading from an apparatus are applied to the outer ears. Before actual therapy is applied, the patient is tested to determine the degree of impairment. This is arrived at by “Charting” his residual hearing. He is asked to indicate when he hears certain amplitudes at certain frequencies. Thus the threshold of perception is noted on a graph at various points. A line is made connecting such points and a visual picture indicates the general type of deafness. In the obstructive type, the threshold is a straight line ascent or descent, reaching a higher peak with the lower frequencies. In the chronic catarrhal type there are peaks which abruptly rise and fall.

Each tone of the vocal range is tested at the various frequencies by a stable stimulus of appreciable intensity and amplification. The range of vibration is such that the most delicate ear can hardly perceive the changing tones, or of such amplification that the very hard of hearing can easily hear the tones.

Oscillatory resonance is given the patient for therapeutic stimulation. Individual tones or a series of changing tones are applied. The volume or frequency is altered for the individual patient as indicated by their graphic chart.

In order that the hard of hearing person can hear the given tones, great amplitude of volume is used. This sets up a mechanical vibratory stimulation to the mechanical machinery of hearing and such stimulation is finally carried as nerve impulses to the hearing center of the brain. Provided the auditory nerve fibers have not been completely destroyed, the repeated stimulation activates and resensitizes such nerve fibers. After successive treatments, the threshold for sound perception becomes lowered and less amplification is required. Greater facility to carry afferent impulses by the end organs of the auditory nerve is produced by carefully applied and regulated oscillatory resonance. Thus a rehabilitation of hearing is produced by applying such variable sound vibrations, regulated as to volume and frequency.

Where “head noises” are present, they are completely dissipated. Improvement is marked and noted after several treatments. This ensues when the frequencies applied coincide or are greater than the existing head noises.

Regulated oscillatory resonance limbers and creates flexibility of mobilized fixations. Stimulation of the circulation and lymphatic channels are produced. There is a revitalization and resensitization of the nerve ends and fibers enabling afferent impulses to manifest themselves at a lower threshold of reception.

Combined thermostatic and resonance treatment takes about an hour. The average number of treatments is forty-two. Patients hard of hearing for over forty years have been cured. Children seem to respond most rapidly. Adults up to the ages of 50 to 55 fall into the average class, while those past middle age receive improvement less rapidly.

This new mode of therapy is an achievement in returning hearing to the many afflicted. Hopelessness is no more. Its results are definite and positive.

People suffering from impaired hearing seem to use that organ of sound perception less and less until the original lesion is further enhanced, hastening complete decay of the apparatus from deteriorative disuse. It is but natural that when the etiological factors are removed and the unused hearing apparatus is once more stimulated and made accustomed to the reception of stimuli that hearing will return.

In my opinion no case is hopeless. The diagnosis of the specialist is not always positive for I have cured or caused material improvement in so-called cases of nerve deafness and otosclerosis. How to account for it is hard to explain. Possibly the diagnosis was uncertain or difficult. It may be that the nerve fibers had not been completely destroyed.

This paper has for its object the simple presentation of a new curative treatment for deafness rather than a highly scientific or technical dissertation. What must be kept in mind is the improvement of the patient, uninfluenced by preconceived theories, but rather the definite measured improvement by an instrument of precision together with the recovery noted by the patient himself.
