This Psychic Reading given by Edgar Cayce at the home of his sister, Mrs. W. A. McPherson, 1618 Fatherland St., Nashville, Tennessee, this 11th day of November 1935, in accordance with request made by the self - Mrs. [1054], through Associate Membership of her husband in the Ass”n for Research & Enlightenment, Inc., via husband, Mr. [930].
[Edgar Cayce; Gertrude Cayce, Conductor; Gladys Davis, Steno. L. B. Cayce and Hugh Lynn Cayce, Mary Cayce McPherson and Edgar Cayce McPherson.]
Time of Reading 4:15 to 4:40 P. M. Central Standard Time. …, N.Y. (Physical Suggestion)
-
EC: Yes, we have the body here, [1054].
-
Now, as we find, there are specific conditions that disturb the better physical functioning of the body. These are rather deep-seated, and are the effect of specific pressures in the first cause, and the effects these conditions have produced upon the activity of the system as related to the functioning of the lower portion of the hepatic circulation. Thus the body is affected in these ways and manners.
-
These, then, are the conditions as we find them with this body, [1054] we are speaking of:
-
First, IN THE BLOOD SUPPLY, here we find effects of disturbances rather than causes, though the effect PRODUCES a disturbance in the blood system itself, as will be indicated.
-
IN THE NERVOUS SYSTEM, we find rather the deep-seated cause of the disturbance. For in times back there has been an injury that has caused a lesion in the 8th, 9th and 10th dorsal area. This lesion affects the activity of the impulses through the ganglia there to the functioning of the system as related to the activity of the kidneys in eliminations, as related to the flow of blood supply, as related to the activity of the glands that function not FROM the activity of the kidney but TO the activity of the kidney. Rather those from the lymph ducts in the lacteal area.
-
Hence we find a slowing of the circulation THROUGH same, thus producing through the nerves’ activity (that is, over-stimulation in one area, lack of flow in another area) a sedimentary effect. Hence the production within the kidney itself of that which forms as gravel, or hardening of the inside wall of same, through which the eliminations of the urinic acid from the system make for an irritation to the tubes that lead to the bladder. Thus ACUTE pains are caused at times, and heaviness across a portion of the abdomen - and acute pains across the kidney area.
-
These effects, then, upon the blood supply are to make for the toxic forces - that should be eliminated - becoming apparent in the blood stream in very minute quantities, yet sufficient to make for an alteration in the pulsation through the circulation from the liver, the heart, the lungs.
-
Then, these make for an activity there that becomes disturbing ESPECIALLY when there is a contraction. Yet the lesion which has caused or that produces same is in the cerebro-spinal nervous system.
-
The effect of these upon the nervous force as to the sensory system becomes apparent in the general conditions that arise at times to the sensory system. And to the nervous forces of the body there is an uneasiness through the reflex activity of the sympathetic forces of the body; thus becoming effective to the activity of all portions of the physical forces as related to functionings of the organs.
-
IN THE ORGANS THEMSELVES, as indicated; these we find at times become distressed, though the normal conditions are for a nominal reaction. And the reaction is GOOD, considering the general reactions of the body in relation to the specific conditions.
-
Then, in effecting that which would eliminate the disorders from the system:
-
We find that if these suggestions will be followed consistently, persistently, we would eliminate the causes. But unless these are to be done CONSISTENTLY and PERSISTENTLY, for a sufficient period to insure that the causes in the first, and the effects that have already been produced, have been rejuvenated and resuscitated for their normal activity, then don’t begin them!
-
First, we would begin with the manipulations osteopathically given, that would GRADUALLY correct the conditions in the cerebrospinal nervous system. These should NOT be too severe, nor too close together in the beginning. Once a week for the first month SHOULD be sufficient. And these should be of the GENERAL nature, rather than the specific corrections.
-
During this period, each day take an ounce of Watermelon Seed Tea; made in this manner: To a teaspoonful of crushed watermelon seed put a pint of water, warm water. Let come to a boil, and then boil for half a minute; that is, not the simmering but the turning over. Set aside, strain. Keep in a cool place. Drink an ounce of this each day. Make an extra quantity and use in the same way during the whole period of the four weeks during which one osteopathic treatment would be given each week.
-
Also each evening when ready to retire, massage across the 8th, 9th, 10th, 11th and 12th dorsal area, and across the lumbar also, that which the body will absorb of this combination:
-
To a quantity of heated Mutton Suet or Mutton Tallow, add the same quantity of each of the following ingredients (that is, equal parts of each) - added in the order named: Turpentine, Spirits of Camphor, Compound Tincture of Benzoin. Massage only what the body will absorb. Then place a hot flannel over same; at least three thickness of same. A warm pad to keep it warm for an hour would be most beneficial.
-
After the four weeks of treatments in this manner, then leave OFF the applications externally; rest from these applications for three or four days. Then commence again. But then have two to three treatments osteopathically each week; and once a week take the diathermy treatment - but not too high or too strong a voltage, using the plates then on the 4th dorsal and the lacteal duct area. Keep the diathermy once a week for the next four weeks, and the adjustments two to three times each week.
-
In the meantime, be mindful that there is plenty of water taken in the system. Not those that would overflow, but at least six glasses of water each day - this would be the least quantity that should be taken.
-
One meal each day should be only of raw fresh vegetables or fruits.
-
The morning meals should be principally citrus fruits, brown toast, any good cereal (though cereals and citrus fruits should not be used at the same meal). When cereals are used, preferably use those containing iron - as Maltex or Whole Wheat; these may be alternated.
-
Evening meals should be vegetables principally, consisting of the leafy kind and those grown under the ground; NOT the pod variety. That is, no peas, beans, lima beans or dried beans, nor things of that nature. Rather use the artichoke, potatoes (particularly the peel of the potatoes), yams, salsify, turnips and the like; these may be used WITH the LEAFY vegetables, especially red cabbage. These should be equally balanced; that is, one of the leafy variety to one grown under the ground, or two of the leafy to two under the ground. Alter these.
-
Take pears principally as the fruits, or grapes; or alter these in the diet.
-
And we should find in six to eight weeks near normal conditions.
-
Ready for questions.
-
(Q) Is milk beneficial to my system? (A) Preferably dried milk rather than the raw milk.
-
(Q) Is the belt I am wearing doing any good and shall I continue same? (A) It is not doing harm; then it must be at least a protection and a help. Do not leave off.
-
(Q) What is the cause of failing memory? (A) As much taxation as there is produced on the nerve forces of the body, there’s no wonder!
-
(Q) Any focal infections? (A) As indicated. Rather the effect of the nerve pressures that have affected the assimilating forces from the lacteals, allowing accumulations in the flow of the circulation through the kidneys themselves.
Do as we have indicated; conscientiously, sincerely, persistently - and we will find results!
- We are through for the present.

(See letter [which was enclosed] with directions to Dr. Dobbins for osteopathic and diathermy treatments. If it is not convenient for you to go into New York for these, I’m sure Dr. Dobbins will recommend a good osteopath in your vicinity and write a letter to him asking that he follow the directions given in the letter.
I think you can prepare and give the other things yourself at home. If everything is not clear, let us know.
We are leaving in a day or two for Detroit, Mich., 3046 Webb Ave., and will be there about two weeks. But mail sent to Virginia Beach will be forwarded to us wherever we are. We would like to hear whether or not your sister has gotten started with her treatments and just how she is getting along. Please let us hear from YOU. Kind regards from all of us; and hope you’ll be feeling like a different person when we’re in New York in January. GD.)
Reports
Reports & Follow-up
R1. 1/10/36 “It is now two months since my reading and in that time I was supposed to find great improvement. Such may be the case, but as yet I have not noticed any change. The diet and treatment seemed to cause a very great disturbance in the intestinal tract in the form of intestinal gravel. Laboratory tests proved the gravel to be vegetable matter turning to bits of gravel and bits of wood. The vegetables and pears which the reading called for have been discontinued and I am more comfortable, although a small amount of gravel makes itself known every once in a while. If this condition existed before I was not conscious of it because it caused no distress. Was this a normal reaction from the treatments of diathermy and the osteopathic treatment throwing out gravel which had stored itself up in the system some place, or was diet the cause of the gravel? Have continued with the diathermy and osteopathic treatments, also watermelon seed tea as directed. Would like to arrange for a ck. rdg. to know if there is anything different to do.” [She reported on sister, [1034].]
R2. 1/16/36 “Is there a derangement of organic functions? What causes pain in right hip and leg, also shoulder muscles? When and how did accident occur as referred to in rdg. which caused kidney condition? I am following all the instructions except that of diet. I appreciate the interest you are taking in my case and hope this rdg. will lead to a solution of my troubles.” [1/20/36 See 1054-2.]

Dear Members of the Brotherhood of Man,
Just a note to let you know another success story with the circulating Files in hope that the good news of another will fortify you in the good works that you are doing.
Around 1968 I had a kidney stone in the left urethra which was removed by a process known as a transvescular-utherodomy. Then in 1971 had the same process on the right. Around August 1973 I consulted an orthopedic specialist because of persistent back pain over a one year period. Previous examination by urologist showed nothing in the kidney. Fortunately the back x-rays showed another kidney stone, this time in the left kidney, as well as an accumulation of blood in the thoracic vertabra which the orthopod characterized as a hemangeoma or birth mark in the vertabrae.
The only treatment he recommended was “live with it” and suggested it was congenital. The urologist didn’t offer me much hope for the kidney stone either and since I had twice been operated for the same condition I didn’t have much hope either.
On January 22, 1974 I requested the Circulating File on Kidney Stones. One of the readings was EXACTLY on point, covering all the symptoms and relating the back pain and the kidney pain. It took some time for me to obtain the necessary ingredients suggested in the readings but finally I got everything together and commenced. In March I made the mistake of going by car to Florida and the stone dropped from the kidney to the urethra. So I altered the treatments in accordance with the readings. A couple weeks ago x-rays confirmed that the stone was gone. (Forgot to mention that first operation left scar tissue at the urethra-bladder junction and doctor could not get a cystoscope into the urethra in September 1973). The urologist suggested that the stone probably passed without me feeling it until I reminded him that he couldn’t even do a retrograde cystogram because of scar tissue in the urethra.
Needless to say to you that prayer also had its part in my success story. Now I am continuing the treatment recommended by the readings with expectation that the condition that caused the stones in the first place will be corrected.
Sincerely yours, [signed] Henry G. Kubin

Re: Kidney Stone Reading # 1054-1 1054-2
Attention: Miss Penny Thweatt Membership Services
Dear Miss Thweatt,
The above captioned readings are the two which I used to dissolve my kidney stone. Reading 1054-1 was applicable when the stone was still in the kidney. That particular reading pointed to several complaints I had, such as bilateral kidney pain and pain in the 8th thoracic spine region, as being related to the stone. I also had a “hot spot” or area in the 8th thoracic spine that had a definite elevated temperature. Mr. [Mrs.] [1054] also had symptoms in the abdominal area that the reading said was related. I too had these abdominal complaints but had no idea that there was any relationship to the cause or condition.
Upon receipt of the reading and gathering the necessary commodities for the watermelon tea and rubs I went to my osteopathic physician and requested osteopathic manipulation in accordance with the reading. He did not have much faith in the reading but figured that my back was in such shape that osteopathic manipulation were in order for the back even if they also happen to co-incide with the treatment recommended in the reading.
Before the recommended treatments were completed we took a motor trip to Florida. Mr. Cayce had suggested to others with stones that they NOT travel. I did not heed the advice. My stone then dropped out of the kidney into the urethra. Fortunately this did not happen until we were a matter of hours from home, on our way back from Florida (Disney World was wonderful). In any event I went back to the readings and discovered that Mr. [Mrs.] [1054] had not headed the readings either and his stone apparently made the same move. Recommended treatment for his condition was changed from rubs, watermelon tea and manipulations to turpentine stupes and Mullein tea. So I then followed reading 1054-2 as well as 1054-1. Within 4 weeks the stone could not be found on x-ray.
At the time of writing I still have some symptoms referable to the back area which are pretty much kept under control by ordinary exercises. The “hot spot” in the back is gone but there is still some instability there. I am, however, not disabled in any way and enjoy golfing, swimming, and bowling.
Very truly yours, [signed] Henry G. Kubin
Attention: Miss Penny Thweatt,
In reference to the lady’s daughter in New Jersey who has a hemangeoma. A hemangeoma is, in lay terms, a birthmark and the readings on that are available in the “black Book”. The doctor who x-rayed my back suggested I had an excess blood supply in my back in the vertebra around the 8th dorsal area. This he likened to a hemangeoma but really did not say it was a hemangeoma. He was just giving an example so that I could understand that I had something like a birthmark on the bone. Actually I beleave [believe] if you read 1054-1 like I read it you would come to the conclusion that the doctor was wrong and the reading was correct. It was not a birthmark but an accumulation of blood in the area that was caused by a subluxation or displaced vertebra in the back pressing on a nerve ganglia thereby causing the blood supply from the abdominal area and kidney area to be misdirected to the back. The back could not handle the excess blood so it accumulated in the back and was noted on x-ray. I have had no recent x-rays so can neither confirm nor deny the existence of the blood in that area but I would be willing to bet a great deal that most of the excess blood has resolved itself. I will be careful in the future not to allow the condition to get out of hand.
I wrote this note separately because it was not on point with my other note.

P.S. Haven’t had cause to see the doctor in a long time so the medical report form is still at home with me!

R6. 9/1/75 Letter from A.R.E. member, Natasa Hajek, to Dr. William McGarey:
“Please have note about Circulating File on Kidney Stones. It is partly confusing because there exists chemically four different kinds of kidney stones and each has to be treated differently.
“It is not clear from the files, which kind of stones they were, but I feel most of them are urates. I myself have had this type of stone gravel; so, I took a few pieces of this gravel of mine (after attack) on paper, poured a little turpentine on them, and before the turpentine evaporated, the size was heavily diminished. Miracle!
“It could be worthwhile to repeat this experiment with all types of kidney stones and all dissolvers from this Circulating File and give results as first page to this file on Kidney Stones. Each patient knows which kind of stones he has after laboratory analysis; and so he would be able to recognize instantly which readings of many evidently very valuable materials in this file to use for himself…”
