Date: 2/16/1937 Sex: F Age: 24 ReadingID: 6197
This psychic reading given by Edgar Cayce at his home on Arctic Crescent, Virginia Beach, Va., this 16th day of February, 1937, in accordance with request made by [1058], through her friend, Miss [954], Active Member of the Ass”n for Research & Enlightenment, Inc.
[Edgar Cayce; Gertrude Cayce, Conductor; Gladys Davis, Steno.]
Manhattan General Time of Reading Hospital Ward, 11:20 to 11:25 A. M. Eastern Standard Time. 520 Second Ave. & 18th, New York City. (Physical Suggestion)
-
EC: Yes. As we find, while conditions are serious, there is some slight response to the applications that are at present being made.
-
As we find while this may necessitate eventual operative forces, or further operative forces, if following same there would be used low electrical forces as from static electricity or galvanic, these would materially aid in creating the correct vibrations for the body.
-
Little may be changed under the existent conditions, but insist - when these conditions have arisen - that this at least be given the opportunity for its expression in the body-physical.
-
Ready for questions.
-
(Q) Is the operation advisable? (A) As has been indicated, this apparently must be part of the condition as is arising; though if the body responds as it has at times, no.
-
(Q) Is present treatment right? (A) As has been indicated.
-
(Q) Any further advice? (A) Keep the attitudes in the right.
-
We are through for the present.

R1. 2/18/37 Miss [954]‘s letter to EC:
My dear Teacher:
Thank you so much for your inquiry about [1058]. Both of us appreciate it so much…just as we got such comfort from the telegram and the reading. The surgeon expected to operate yesterday…and I hope to see her at 2 o’clock today and shall append a note at that time to this letter.
I shall append a note about the reading to this letter so that Gladys can file it as a report and will not have to retype. Of course, you can imagine what we have been going through. I know it is faulty of me to suffer as much as I do when she is ill like this…but I seem to lose a large part of the control I have built up. My projection even goes so far as physical…pains in the ear and tight glands…if you please! Quite ludicrous, of course. I have had to take a hard riding from Dr. Hardwicke about it…but truth to tell he is not perfect himself in the matter and has confessed it. You see the child looks so bad…the swelling at the gland is enormous…so that her head inclines toward it…and the sympathetic gland structure swells, too…so that the whole neck is enlarged.
Taken from the viewpoint of soul chastisement the entire condition is most interesting to me. If, as we tend to believe, the body is subject to the individual will…she did some unique picking. I was contrasting it last night with my own choice (if we can go so far as to admit that this is choice…and I tend that way)… And I see that in my own choice the injury was deeper but was so secret…so hidden …that even today after nearly forty years of life and severe operative procedure my personal, bodily characteristics are much the same as they were at sixteen. Is not this all interesting? On the other hand the child chooses an outward sign…producing scars on her face and neck where everyone will notice them.
I do not want you to think that her previous reading did not help her. It improved her enormously for a time. But like all of us she fell by the wayside in the daily care that was needed. She becomes a victim of circumstances apparently… so often, too…even having dropped her family behind, she got into a roommate situation in which she lost much sleep. But all of us are determined to do better in the future. If she will stick with us, Dr. Hardwicke will jack her up…and we hope to retain the strong personality of the surgeon in the picture. We were so much pleased that he endeavored to clear up the infection without operative procedure in the beginning.
Believe me, [1058] is growing and striving spiritually. It is most interesting to note how she responds. Her family, for instance, descends in force at such a time although their only part in the picture otherwise is to collect the weekly allowance she gives them. Both father and mother descend on the hospital…weep actual tears and moan over the misfortune. [1058] this time is trying to arrange (and so kindly it quite touched me) to have them come less often. She sees what they do to her…that they pull her down.
Then there is a rather nice aunt who comes…nice up to a certain point. She is the more prosperous one of the family and has been very kind at times giving [1058] care after she got out of the hospital. But her technique is to criticize…whether the kid has a new hat or has chosen a new hospital. Her thought is that [1058] got it all free last time at Medical Center…why didn’t she return there and get it all free again! One of the things she got free last time was an extra gash in the cheek which had never been punctured before!
So there’s a bit for the funny papers…for you.
What a mixture of kindness, of “good intentions” and of mistakes we human beings are!
The first opening for which she did not have to go under an anesthetic was most successful…and there was to be a further one yesterday. I look forward to finding her much improved today. I feel a change in my own spirits and rather take that as a sign.
Love to all of you…and many thanks, especially for the effort made in getting the emergency check to us…and the telegram.
[Following added in handwriting]
Dear EC - The operation seems to have been successful although my personal impression of the moment is that another may be necessary.
I shall be hoping and praying this is not so…and I know all of you will, too…
Love [954]
R2. Report re Reading on 1058-4 taken February 16, 1937, by Edgar Cayce. Comments by her friend, [954]:
This reading is interesting in that a slight response is noted in the treatments of ice bag and medication she was under. This response was enough to keep the surgeon on the case hoping he might heal it up without operating.
Unknown to the patient, the two doctors had been conferring. The surgeon had already asked whether she would have a vacation next summer…for he had discovered an infection in some glands down near the collar bone…and he planned to remove these at a later date. See in the reading we have “BUT INSIST - when these conditions have arisen - that this at least be given the opportunity for its expression in the body-physical.”
The further advice “Keep the attitudes in the right” was much needed by the patient and those around her.
We should much appreciate an answer to the electrical question… Is the radio-active appliance which we have and which is sold by Health Home Remedies either a static or galvanic type of electricity. If it is, we shall, of course, use it as soon as we get her home.
R3. 2/24/37 Miss [954]‘s letter to EC:
HOTEL McALPIN, New York (Letterhead)
My dear Teacher:
You will be happy to hear that as I returned from lunch I not only found your letter…but got a phone call from [1058] telling me she has gotten to her aunt’s home safely…left the hospital this morning. It looks as if this case is one in which we should be on our knees thanking God for a good surgeon…he found a truly bad condition with much wasting away of gland structure and performed quite an operation. Her reaction after being relieved was the most amazing you could imagine…skin cleared and eyes bright almost as soon as the ether fumes left her. My own only apprehension is that we did not obey the reading by this removal…yet I am grateful to have her spared and I was told that if the infection had spread in its virulent state at any time in the past two years she would have been done for…
P.S. I had a most beautiful experience about the money for the operation of which I must tell you sometime. I’m learning a lot…don’t get bored with me. Every hour seems to teach me some new truth…even to give me some new evidence that I am not alone…
R4. 5/4/37 Miss [1058]‘s letter: “Please accept my apologies for not writing you much sooner, and forgive my seeming ingratitude. You have been very kind to me, and altho I have been very lax in my correspondence I have not forgotten your quick response to my call for help.
“As you know, I have had a pretty tough siege of it this time. An operation was necessary but I do believe that here at last is the operation to end all operations. The man who performed the operation proceeded most competently; and the results are more than gratifying. He is a friend of Dr. Henry S. W. Hardwicke’s and now a good friend of mine… Regarding the statement ‘Keep the attitudes in the right’ - this was amazingly easy for me, which to my way of thinking shows definite signs of development.” [She asked about the galvanic electricity and EC wrote her it was the Wet Cell Appliance.]
