1. LS: You will give a business reading for this body, answering the questions which I will ask you.

2. EC: Ready for questions.

3. (Q) How should [1097] go about getting his adjustable Sweep Attachment For Cultivators Manufactured? (A) Best that same be presented to someone who has ability and experience in the manufacture of such articles, and in the distribution of same, and who has access to such distribution. Such an one would be found in Harry Eastman of John Deer Plow Company, Dallas, Texas. This should be handled, however, as an individual proposition with the individual, and they ([1097] - Eastman) have an organization to handle the proceeds from such manufacture. Then, have such contract wherein these John Deer Plow people might manufacture same, paying so much for each article as is placed on market; giving Eastman an interest less, much less, than that owned by [1097], for handling such conditions.

This, we find, would be the proper manner to handle this. This is a worthy condition and one that will bring much means, and will be the means of helping many.

R1. 3/19/25 EC’s letter: I must say that I was as equally surprised to KNOW OF THIS INVENTION of yours. From your description of this, I am sure you have a good proposition, and I see no reason why you should not make a big bunch of money off of same. The reading, as you see, was taken on this morning, and when I read this I wonder more and more. I do not know that one would ordinarily carry such a proposition to these people. I am wondering, however, if the man Eastman mentioned here is a gentleman that I used to know many years ago in Bowling Green, Kentucky. If it is the same, I would have no hesitancy in saying, “Lay the whole proposition before him,” and I believe you would get an honest square deal. I’m sure it is worth looking into, and should it prove to be the same man, I’d ask that you remember me to him. I was of course in the photograph business when he knew me. I do not know that he knows anything at all regarding the work that I am now doing, or have ever done, though he may. However, I considered him at that time a very good friend, and I am sure he will be able, if it is the same, to help you out with the proposition, and would be interested in doing so. So I look forward with a good deal of interest and anticipation to hear from you again, when you have had an opportunity to take the matter up with him and see what he has to say. You will notice from this it is said that it would be better for you to take it up with him as a personal matter, rather than one for his company. I’m sure though you will get the trend of the reading, and I’m certainly in hopes that it proves an agreeable association, and a wonderful financial success to you both.

Mr. Edgar Cayce, 322 Grafton Avenue, Dayton, Ohio

My dear friend:

I feel ashamed not having written you a letter of thanks ere this for the reading, but I have been on the go so much since I received your last letter have had no time at all that I could call my own.

The department has now placed me in charge of the … State Bank of …, Texas a little town about 16 miles South of San Saba, and I now have to spend quite a bit of my time there as well as here. The work is wonderful - gives a man quite a good chance to demonstrate his ability, and I presume I am producing qualification or else the Department would not be handing me more busted banks to work out. The great trouble is, there is not sufficient compensation in the work for me - not much more than a scant living, and most any farm hand can make that. So you can see why I am so anxious to do something with the patent I have.

Your reading referred me to Mr. Harry Eastman, of the John Deere Plow Works of Dallas. They are some of the best plow people in the United States, but such suckers want every thing for themselves. Have not been able to interest Mr. Eastman, personally himself yet. Texas as you probably now know, in most sections will make a short cotton crop this year, but I couldn’t possibly get action on the sweep in time for this year’s cultivation for the crop is now maturing, but am hopeful of getting them made this fall and have them ready for 1926 Spring delivery. It appears an awfully hard matter though to induce capital to invest in any thing now unless they get it all. Your reading I am sure will prove helpful to me, and if I can get it going I want to assist you some financially in your good work that you are now doing.

Probably I informed you before, that I donated my holdings in order to get out of the bank. […] was badly torn up, and I afraid will ever remain thus, that I considered life too short to let it be sapped out holding on there, so I just got out at any cost and believe I did the proper thing. Now I must practically start over, and I believe I have the foundation in this sweep if I can get them made. Of course, I expect to hold on to this job, or stay with the Department until I can get something better. My family are still at …, where I still have my home.

I am not going to ask you to do it, but I would like awfully well to have a personal reading, as to my future - this might be some help. I am through with small towns. A man with a business head on him cannot expect to accomplish anything where there is no wealth. Have been desirous of getting in with some one of the large producing oil Companies - handle their products, but thus far have not been able to, get a line up, in fact do not know which one is to apply to, and right here where the reading might do me some good.

R3. 8/25/25 [1097]‘s letter: I wrote [257] a letter some days ago in care of the … Furniture Company, but was afraid he would not receive the letter, hence wrote you. Had nothing special to write him about, only to request that he keep his eyes open and endeavor to land me in some good job should he have the opportunity, which now since he has quite an acquaintance among the capitalists, he might quite conveniently do for I know the world is always looking for dependable capable men. Then again he might be able to assist me in financing my sweep.

In so far as a position or job is concerned, I have already written you that I can retain what I have with the State Department of Banking as long as I want it, but Texas does not appreciate her State officials sufficient enough to pay them not more than a bare living, and that does not suit me. It is not altogether money I desire, but efficient service should be properly compensated.

Presume there is nothing doing with my sweep attachment in so far as Mr. Eastman is concerned. He writes me that he is gradually drifting into Automobile Specialities and expects to confine his efforts to this particular class of good in the future.

He was exceedingly nice about the matter, however, and suggested that I come to Dallas and call on the different implement concerns, wherein some of the managers or directors would be interested in my proposition and could probably manufacture same in one of their own factories, thus avoiding the expense of equipping for something special at this time. This I already know and realize that unless I could interest some dependable individual with finances, that it would be useless to call on managers and heads of such factories for it would no more than result in a freeze out game for me. Well I’ll just wait a while and perhaps something yet will materialize. I am certainly more than thankful to you for having referred me to Mr. Eastman, for there is no doubt his being a high class man.

So you are thinking very seriously of moving your work to Virginia Beach. It seems to me that would be an ideal place in so far as living is concerned, and perhaps the move is logical from a business view point. I certainly hope the move will be no disappointment to you. If I can be of any service to you, just drop a letter, and at any time you can do anything for me, you well know no man on earth is more loyal to his friends than your humble servant.

About Mr. Warren P. Andrews. I have absolutely lost track of the man for the time being. At the time you knew him best, he was with the First National Bank, Ft. Worth, Texas and then he secured a position somewhere in the East with a large bank, and later was called to the Southwest National Bank of Dallas, Texas where he remained as President of said bank until about one month ago. The owners of this bank, reorganized it; the same bears the name now of the North Texas National Bank of Dallas. Mr. Andrews, did not remain with the new organization, but received a Federal appointment of some kind, but just now I do not know his whereabouts, but will find out and let you know at the earliest possible moment, that is when you write me giving your new address.

You have so much on your hands, I dislike to ask you for a reading on my life and you need not bother with it until you have little time to spare, if that will ever be. The date of birth, Nov. 5th, 1882, at Mexia, Limestone County, Texas, but can’t give the hour. Have two of the finest boys in the world and the prettiest little girl in the land, with my dear wife and I, that’s my family and all that will ever be. Some of these days I want a reading covering these boys and this little girl, but not now thank you.

When it is convenient for you to do so, write me again. I am indeed glad that you are making progress, and I am extremely interested in your success and I trust the move will prove advantageous in every way.

I have invented what I believe a wonderful plow tool for the farmers exclusive use. Something they all need and something they all will buy, and get more than value received.

“A wing sweep attachment for plows adjustable”. The primary object being to provide an attachment for any make cultivator with effectual means for eliminating surplus vegetation, such as weeds, grass and the like between the rows of vegetation being cultivated. This sweep is simple and durable construcion, has blades which may be adjusted to conform with the respective requirements of the invention, and has double bladed wings. Takes two rows at a time, mulches the grown right up to the plant and does away with hoe hands. Can do twice the work with their use than ordinary sweep. A great boll weevil exterminator, and preserves moisture. Can be manufactured at about $3.00 per set and retailed at 10.00 per set. Fits any Standard Make Cultivator. Had a model made and every farmer that has seen it says it is marvelous and wants a set right now. But I must get them manufactured.

Now the above is the reading I want. Don’t think I have gone crazy. West Texas is a cotton patch, and they are in need of this implement. Can sell every farmer out there a set, but they must be manufactured in car lots and as they are to be made of steel that takes money. I hope you will take a little time off and give me this reading as soon as you can. If I can get this thing going I will not need a bank job. Can make a fortune selling the sweeps. I wish you could see the model.

Hope this is not asking too much of you and that you will write me all about yourself soon. I am very much interested in you and don’t know of a man that I think more of. Perhaps some day we can yet get together on a business venture of some kind. My experiences in … cost me about what I had, but I have good health, brains and energy and will come again some day.
