This Psychic Reading given by Edgar Cayce at his home on Arctic Crescent, Virginia Beach, Va., this 24th day of February, 1941, in accordance with request made by the self - Dr. [1107], Associate Member of the Ass”n for Research & Enlightenment, Inc.

Time of Reading 4:00 to 4:15 P. M. Eastern Standard Time. …, N.Y.

1. GC: You will have before you the body and enquiring mind of [1107], …, N.Y., who seeks information, advice and guidance as to his material, mental and spiritual welfare. Considering his induction for army service and the necessity to give up his practice, you will advise him just what attitude he should take and just how he should go about to adjust himself to the new environment so as to be of the most service. You will answer the questions, as I ask them:

2. EC: Yes, we have the enquiring mind, [1107], and those conditions which present themselves as problems in the present.

3. When considering such, we find that there are definite things to be taken into consideration.

4. The entity, the body, is to first determine the ideals and the purposes, - and then as to whether or not these are in keeping with that expressed by Him, the Prince of Peace.

5. It has been indicated by His example as well as by His teachings that individuals find themselves in that position where, if they will but apply those principles of Christian brotherhood, they may and do have the opportunity for the greater and better service.

6. Not that there is the consideration of placing nationalism ahead of spirituality. Not that due consideration should not be given to the ideals and purposes of each individual who is to serve in the preparation for national defense. But the principles, the teachings of the ideals can and may go one with the other, dependent upon the manner in which the individual application is made.

7. Those in authority - and this by the will of the Father - have seen fit that the entity, the body, enter in such a service for twelve months, - this should be the consideration.

8. The twelve month period should complete the service for this body, - unless he chooses further activity.

9. As to what position or place of activity should be chosen, this must be a choice of the body itself. This CAN be chosen by the body; and as we find the better would be either in the commissary department or the Red Cross or ambulance service. Either of these would give the body the opportunity for the expression of that which has been or may be in the future a part of the service towards the fellow man. One, in the consideration of conditions, places, wherever the body finds self in service, would be as respecting the welfare or health of units under the supervision or direction of the body. Or, the choice of ambulance units would, especially in this training service or period of a year, give the body the opportunity for giving the evaluation of those services or activities that have been a part of its training and experience; thus making the abilities of the body become a real service, whether there has been the full consideration given or not.

10. Then, whatever service or branch of service is chosen by the body, let it be with an eye single to being of a greater service, and to making whatever group or contingency in which the body serves as a better service for the entity’s having been among that group.

11. Ready for questions.

12. (Q) Is there any special thing I can do in order to be able to choose the particular service I can give? (A) The entity will be able to choose, by its NATURAL training, if it is indicated; not so much in one or the other direction but that in either of these branches there might be greater activity for service. For either of these would offer the opportunity not only for better service but better fitting self for greater service, hereafter as well as during the period of enlistment.

13. (Q) Is it indicated as to where I will be stationed? (A) This will depend, to be sure, upon the choice much of the service undertaken by the body. And, as we find, the place will be changed some two or three times, even during the period of the year’s activity.

14. (Q) Will I be able to reestablish a practice at the end of the year; if so, should I return to …, N.Y.? (A) Should be able to reestablish a practice; and it would be well to reestablish at …, N.Y.

15. (Q) What should I do about my office-home and furnishings during my absence? (A) Store same.

16. (Q) Considering my prejudice and feeling of unfairness concerning conscription, please advise me how to conduct myself so as to develop rather than retard through the experience? (A) This has been indicated in the first premise. Consider Him, - who is thy guide, they way. Did He hold prejudice because of those in authority, or because there were those experiences that were displeasing among His own peoples, or among the followers and the officers of the house of the Lord?

He only filled that place, - as ye may do. Use those ideals, those principles in thy daily activity.

17. We are through for the present.

R1. 2/24/41 GD’s note: On awaking from 1107-2 EC told this dream which he had during reading:

“I dreamed I was looking over a lot of records, and I saw what would have happened if Gertrude and I hadn’t gotten married. She would have died in 1906 of T.B. I would have died in 1914 from a stomach trouble.” [See recorded under 294-196, Par. R8.]

R2. 3/16/41 “Here I am stationed in the 4th Medical Battalion… at Ft. Benning, Ga., and somehow enjoying all this change from my former routine. I want to thank you for the reading you gave me… My training is very simple and easy for me, as they do not go deeply into anatomy and physiology. Much is repetition. It seems funny that the Army can train grocers, clerks, etc., into medical workers in 8 wks. before assignment to various units, and this may account for the great losses in war time. I am a great help to others on anatomy and such.”

R3. 12/8/41 EC’s letter: “Glad to have your card (announcing return to practice in home town) - hope you will not be disturbed again by recent developments but will be allowed to carry on your good work.”

R4. 12/9/41 “Thanks for your good wishes. Of course a lot has happened that may place me in the ranks since then. However, if it is God’s wishes I will again return to my practice when all this is over, and the world is once more fit to live in.

“Your reading proved correct last spring. I was in three camps and in the work I like best. This time I hope I may be in a base hospital and not in the field, as sleeping on the ground is not easy for one with a back condition like mine, in spite of what medical opinion says to the contrary.”

R5. 3/21/42 “I am now in the Military Police and, at present, stationed here (N.Y. State)… Naturally, I prefer being out of the Medical Corps, because of the prejudice shown me by the medical officers, and this work is healthful to me, and can be most useful to the cause.”

R6. 3/28/42 “By the way, have you seen where chiropractors are now accepted by the Army (on an official order) and are to be classified as specialists? This must have been a blow to the medicos, and as a consequence we will only be misused anyhow. However, this is a step in the right direction”

R7. 4/2/42 EC’s letter: “Very nice they have given the consideration of those in other line of treatments than the medics, but seems that is what the information insisted would happen.”
