This psychic reading given by Edgar Cayce at his office, 115 West 35th Street, Virginia Beach, Va., this 3rd day of February, 1930, in accordance with request made by those in charge.

Time of Reading Cayce Hospital, 11:15 A. M. Eastern Standard Time. Virginia Beach, Va. (Physical Suggestion)

1. EC: We have the body here - this we have had before. Conditions, as we find, show that improvements are slow - but improvements continue IN the physical forces, and the retractions that occur occasionally are expected, or should be expected - but to continue in the general upbuilding of the whole physical body is helpful to the body. Keep that up. Ready for questions.

2. (Q) Are all treatments carried out satisfactorily? (A) There has oft been given the suggestions of the subjugation of the conscious forces to suggestions. These have NEVER been carried out in the manner as has been suggested. In part, but in part these are ONLY of an AGGRAVATING nature [by Mrs. [2502?]], as they have BEEN carried out, as has been given.

3. (Q) Is there a sympathetic bond between patient and attendant at present? (A) Depends upon what would be called sympathy! Pity is not always sympathy!

4. (Q) Is the family influence detrimental or beneficial to patient? (A) The contending forces as between attendant and family cause hardships to the body, and to the surrounding influences OF the body.

5. (Q) Should all former treatment be continued? (A) All former treatment, in so far as it conforms to that as has been outlined for the body, should be continued.

6. (Q) Who would be suggested to give treatment regarding the subjugation? (A) These have been given. [See 1122-1, Par. 10-A.] We find these as good or better than most that we may contact for this individual body.

7. That is all the questions regarding this body.

8. We are through with this reading.

Mr. Edgar Cayce, Virginia Beach, Va.,

Dear Sir:

I am truly grateful for the promptness with which the reading was mailed, as you know I was anxious to hear results.

Please be assured, Mr. Cayce that my talking to you on Xmas day about the matter in question, was the first and only discussion up to that time. My intention was to let it remain in your hands, rather your readings. The next morning, however, Mrs. [2502] asked me to “make [1122] do” something trivial. I don’t remember at all what it was - SHE may. My reply was that I couldn’t because it meant suppression and in an insignificant case at that. I then said that what [1122] needed was a chance to express what was so tensely choked up in her after seven years of repression necessary in invalidism, that I felt that she needed a different method of handling. She became sullen and continued to discuss it after we went into their room where [1122] was.

Mrs. [2502] seemed to put it all on “I KNOW what’s best for her” and I certainly felt that she DID know thru her superior insight, until the shock I got at seeing [1122] so tense and harassed that Sunday ten days before Xmas Day. You see it was on my next visit that I spoke to you. Since I first spoke, rather replied in that way to Mrs. [2502] she has seemed to feel antagonistic to me. I WAS untagonistic to her WAY OF HANDLING but not until I insisted two Sundays ago on [1122]‘s telling me just how things WERE going, did I doubt Mrs. [2502]‘s sincerity for one moment. I found then that she had thrown discretion to the winds, that she was treating her (in their room) as I have heard of ATTENDANTS treating patients in Williamsburg. Think of her threatening to pour a pitcher of cold water on [1122]! And even once threw out her hand as if to smack her. It seemed that if there was a little chance for [1122] to be partaker of any little pleasure with any one else, it was tabooed on the ground that “she’s sick, it will excite her.” If there was need of [1122]‘s handling herself, doing little things that are really difficult still, it was “now she just must do it, the reading says she must.” And so she should part of the time, but I NEVER heard quoted that particular reading that stated we must guard against strain in her exercising, that nature will take care of the activity in proportion as pressure is lifted and stimulation of ray treatments results. God knows I don’t want to mis-judge her. She MAY possibly be sincere still, and in some strange way may have missed the point and purpose of the treatment she was called there to give.

I know she has “seer insight” but have never been able to see a simple constructive way in which she has ever used it on [1122].

There is one question that I wish had been put at the reading: “Which was to blame for antagonism between ‘family and nurse’ - family or nurse?”

I am more than willing for Mr. [165] to see these statements if you think best.

The fact that choice of Mrs. [2502] may be all wrong does not alter one whit my appreciation of what you and the others have done for her. Do please have her stay on there and see how she can do without a nurse. I KNOW she looked better, freer, at end of second week than ever at all at any other of my visits.

Things have gone better the last two weeks and yet that trembling in arm and leg, that difficulty in handling herself will make against her if she should come home at this stage. People around will not be able to see improvement. Moreover, it would hurt me beyond measure for any influence to be brought thereby against this mighty achievement that you founders have undertaken in the establishment of such a hospital.

If Mrs. [2502] is wrong it is NOT in the least reflection on anything you are doing and yet people who do not understand may think so and doctors, some of them, seem to like getting hold of such tools against a new movement in the world of healing.

Two weeks ago when I stayed over for reading I intended talking to you again but at Miss Cayce’s [Annie Cayce’s] suggestion I went to Dr. Lydic instead, knowing as we did that you were not at all well.

Now, Mr. Cayce, if I have taken all this too seriously, please pardon this long discourse. I believe you will agree that there is plenty food for thought and worry and sleeplessness on part of a mother under existing circumstances.
