This psychic reading given by Edgar Cayce at the home of David E. Kahn, 20 Woods Lane, Scarsdale, N.Y., this 19th day of November, 1936, in accordance with request made by the self - Dr. [1135], Associate Member of the Ass”n for Research & Enlightenment, Inc., Virginia Beach, Va.

Time of Reading 3:35 to 3:55 P. M. Eastern Standard Time. New York City. (Entity, and his novel, in manuscript form, which he holds in his hand. Also you will have before you his mental activity in building this material, his purposes and desires concerning it. In view of his hope that this novel shall be widely read and HELP people, you will please advise what changes should be made in the manuscript in order that it may fulfil the purpose for which it was conceived. Ques.)

1. EC: Yes, we have the entity now known as or called [1135], those experiences of the entity that have prompted the activities of the entity in giving that as we find is presented so well in this manuscript.

2. Then, THE RE-CREATION OF KENNETH JARD would be a title for same, as we find.

3. And the suggestions for any corrections or improvements to present that which is the intent and purpose would be little, save in the opening portions of same.

4. These, while not too commonplace with the rest of the data and the purposes or intent of presentation, should lead more directly to what is presented upon the hundred and seventy-ninth (179th) page of same; that is, not only the philosophies*, purposes in the mental attributes of individuals, but as to the promptings of same by experiences from within the individual MENTAL self.

5. As to the entity [1135] and the purposes that prompt the presentation of that presented here, much might be said respecting influences upon individual lives that will be

brought out and brought about by the reading of such a book or manuscript.

6. For as the entity lives in the experiences, so will individuals - as they study or read same - live in those experiences and thus - as presented in the latter portion of same - realize the necessity for introspective experience of individuals for their OWN peace, their own harmony.

7. (Q) What specific publisher would be most interested and sympathetic in regard to publishing this book? (A) This becomes a question outside of the veil of the mental experiences, and becomes more a thought not only of the character of the manuscript but of the commercial value to the individuals.

As we find there have been associations and connections made by the entity that should be a part of this choice. Not that we find these will be wholly sympathetic with the purposes, but through their INFLUENCE those of other publishers will be drawn into an activity that will not only enable the entity to publish same but to give a wider distribution of the purposes or the book itself.

These as we find - MacMillan and Schuster, or Simon & Schuster - Simon-Schuster.

8. (Q) Which characters would be best to develop further? (A) As indicated from that as we would find, the re-creation should be developed in the central character.

9. (Q) The Re-Creation of Kenneth Jard, is that the title indicated? (A) This as we find becomes the natural expression in carrying out or carrying through the intents and purposes; for this IS what the whole of the purposes and ideals become!

10. (Q) Should the death in the last chapter be eliminated? (A) This is a natural result of the building up of the present manner. But if there are those purposes in the first paragraphs compiled or coordinated with those purposes as given, we would find this may be turned to that as indicated - the re-creation or rebirth instead of death.

11. (Q) Is the section beginning on Page 120 to 130 wisely executed? (A) WISELY executed.

12. (Q) Have you any further comment on this manuscript that would be helpful? (A) As we find, as indicated, these studied with the purposes, with the ideals of the entity, should enable the entity to complete same to its own satisfaction as well as the satisfying of the publisher and - most of all - furnish to a waiting world a helpful experience that enables so many to meet problems in THEIR experience.

Dear Hugh Lynn:

I am so rushed I’ll just summarize things.

I think the plan to make observations on 3-5 physical readings is excellent and upon returning from Boston I shall try to arrange it.

The reading on the novel [GD’s note: He pd. $10 for 1135-7, considering it strictly personal.] was fine. I did not follow your suggestion and ask that clairvoyant ability be demonstrated in connection because that was quite apart from my purpose.

Though my plans hinge on facts not at hand now. I THINK I will be in Boston all next week. But please phone when you’re in town on the chance I’m here.

Dear Mr. Cayce,

I have been meaning to write you since receiving and reading the comments on the novel. Like most of your readings, it means more when one can have it and go over it carefully. My only criticism of it is that it was insufficiently harsh in dealing with the novel. I know there is much room for improvement in it and am not at all averse to having faults pointed out caustically.

Will you tell Hugh Lynn that Prof. Murphy will gladly help me plan the tests he suggests in his letter. I think they offer a good approach.

Dear Dr. [1135]:

Well we finally came back to Beach. Only arrived tho last Friday. Was kept pretty busy. The daughter [Miss [1101]] of one of our members spoke to us about Prof. Murphy. She knows the family or goes to school with some of his family. Any way was very anxious to bring him to see us, tho I felt it much better to leave it with you to handle in what ever way you saw fit. The family report tho of that family Mr. [437] may be of interest to Prof. Murphy if he wishes to follow that up. It covers an experience of several years and quite varied circumstance.

Thanks for your letter. Do hope we may in some small way help here and there. To help is our only excuse of existence. For am more and more persuaded, from the experiences almost daily occurring, it is nothing of myself that is very tangible.

Know Hugh Lynn will be glad to co-operate in any way with you and Dr. Murphy.

R5. 12/11/36 Dr. [1135]‘s ltr. to HLC:

Dear Hugh Lynn,

I have had a good talk with Prof. Murphy about the tests, or rather, observations which you suggest. He wants to take part. We will make up a list of people having illnesses of one kind or another and will arrange to obtain clinical descriptions of the condition of each on the day that your father gives the reading for the patient. Murphy suggests that you let us know in advance how many such readings you can make at this time so we may prepare our list of patients; also, at exactly what time each reading is to be given. The time doesn’t matter to us except that it should be planned well in advance so we may get to you the name and location of the patient to be covered by a reading only a short time before the reading is to take place. As promptly as possible after the reading has been given you will mail us a copy. This procedure should silence anyone who might attack our findings by saying that your father might have been able to learn something of the patient through normal channels before giving the reading.

There is no hurry about these readings, but we are ready and waiting to start them whenever you wish. If you have any suggestions to make regarding the proposed observations please don’t hesitate to make them.

Tell your father I appreciate his letter, and that I am working hard on “Kenneth.”

R6. 1/20/38 GD’s memo: In June 1937 three so-called test cases obtained readings sponsored by A.R.E. members, among them Dr. Frank P. Dobbins, D.O. The psychologists making the experiments took the readings to an MD who naturally said it was all the bunk. Dr. [1135] became ill and his assistant took his place in the project.
