This Psychic Reading given by Edgar Cayce at his home on Arctic Crescent, Virginia Beach, Va., this 9th day of May, 1936, in accordance with request made by the husband - Mr. [1423], through Active Membership of Mr. [877] in the Ass”n for Research & Enlightenment, Inc.

Post Graduate Time of Reading Hospital, 2nd Ave. 6:50 to 6:55 P. M. Eastern Standard Time. & 20th St., New York, N.Y. (Physical Suggestion)

1. EC: Yes, we have the body and those conditions that are indicated here.

2. As we find, there are more dark forces and influences about the body than otherwise.

3. With the changes, if they give transfusions, we would give a small quantity of iodine injection, that would be more helpful and offer a means for the system to respond to the helpful influence of such measures, in combating that lack of those coagulative elements as produced by those conditions internal, and from those conditions about the body.

4. Otherwise, we would not change; we would not alter those things in the administration for those helpful reliefs, as being given.

5. Ready for questions.

6. (Q) Would you advise the transfusions be given? (A) These we find have been and are necessary.

The quantities of those elements to induce the activity may be found best by the test of the blood itself, though we find this should not be very powerful - but a saline with same, to be sure.

Dear Hugh Lynn:

I have just seen the reading for Mrs. [1166], and in view of what I know of the case from Mr. [1423], it strikes me that it is much more likely that the reading meant “infusion” instead of “transfusion” and I am writing to ask you if it is possible that the transcription was made in error. If the reading actually said “infusion” it makes sense, but if it did come through “transfusion” there is considerable doubt, particularly as no transfusions have been given or even seem to be indicated. On the other hand, “infusions” have been given and it still seems as if it might be well to continue them.

Is it not possible that when you telephoned Mr. [1423] you somewhat exaggerated the reading? As I read it, Mrs. [1166] is not in any serious danger, but does need psychological help, particularly from those close to her, and needs, also, what would seem to be “infusions” as stated above. Otherwise, I interpret the reading to say that she is coming along quite satisfactorily and will definitely improve and get well again. Am I not correct? And were you not a little too pessimistic when you talked to Mr. [1423]?

I know that you will understand my reasons for writing you so frankly as I have above. The last thing in the world I want to do is criticize, but I do want to get the absolute facts and not rely upon perhaps hurried interpretations.

Mr. [877] … Street, New York, N.Y.

Dear Mr. [877]:

Thank you very much for your letter of the 14th relative to Mr. [1166]‘s reading. I am sorry that any misunderstanding arose because of my attitude. Perhaps the suggestions contained in my letter to Mr. [1423], a copy of which is enclosed, will offer an opportunity for clearing up the situation.

You are doubtless right about the meaning of the reading as “infusion”, rather than “transfusion”. The information was given in a low tone and it is possible that we misunderstood the first term and impressed the term in the question by using transfusion. It may also be true that I reflected Mr. [1423]‘s anxiety too much. Nevertheless, we are under that impression that we heard “transfusion.” By we, I mean mother, Miss Davis and myself. I was most anxious to be of help to Mr. [1166] and anxiousness evidently blocks psychic information.

In any case I hope that the suggestion regarding the iodine was followed. In the light of my letter to Mr. [1423] please discuss the matter with him.

I appreciate very much your writing me. You know that I value your suggestions highly. The impersonal attitude is hard to maintain, yet apparently necessary, especially for those present at the time readings are given. You know that our constant desire is to serve more intelligently.

R3. 5/18/36 HLC’s letter to [1423]:

Mr. [1423] New York, N.Y.

Dear Mr. [1423]:

This will acknowledge receipt of your check for $20, covering your Associate membership in the Association. In order to complete the records for our files I am enclosing our regular application blank and a sponsored reading slip to be filled out for your wife.

I hope you understand the circumstances under which the reading for Mrs. [1166] was secured. My father had given two reading already during the day, both serious cases. Your wife’s reading was by no means an average reading and we feel that it really needs completing. We are setting Wednesday afternoon, May 20 from 3 to 4, eastern standard time, aside for a period to complete the reading for your wife. Will you kindly confirm this by wire if the time is satisfactory and your wife will be at the same address as the last reading. Also let us have any questions you desire asked at this time. This will simply be a continuation of your first reading and will not be considered as a separate one.

We all hope that Mrs. [1166] has improved and that you found it possible to have the suggestion regarding the iodine solution followed out.
