This psychic reading given by Edgar Cayce at the David E. Kahn home, 20 Woods Lane, Scarsdale, N.Y., this 24th day of November, 1937, in accordance with request made by the mother - Mrs. [1158], Active Member of The Ass”n for Research & Enlightenment, Inc.
[Edgar Cayce; Gertrude Cayce, Conductor; Gladys Davis, Steno. Mrs. [1158].]
Time of Reading … School, 12:15 to 12:35 Noon - Eastern Standard Time. …, N.Y. (Physical Suggestion)
-
EC: Yes, we have the body, [1179]; this we have had before.
-
As we find, there are improvements in many ways through the general conditions of the body. While still there are not the full coordinations as related to the body-building, in relation to the blood flow - or the inclinations still exist towards anemia, we find these show a much bettered condition in the manner in which there is the flow of the lymph with its activity in the blood’s reaction - or the better superficial reaction.
-
This has relieved, somewhat, those inclinations for quick irritations, quick reaction. While such reactions come at times, there is a near normal reaction in these directions.
-
As we would find then in the present, and especially through those periods when there is the less sunshine, there should be the use of the ultra-violet ray - the mercury lights - of course, not close to the body - forty-eight to fifty-three inches. As to how often, this would depend upon the activities outside. Especially when there are periods of little sunshine, the body should rest IN these rays for the activity of the actinic light upon this very plasm. The period of treatment would be from three to twenty minutes, depending - to be sure - upon the activities of the body under the rays, see? When there are the periods of less sunshine, there should be more of the ultra-violet rays.
-
We would occasionally keep the general manipulations osteopathically given; not so much a series as the responding to the inclinations of the body; with special reference to these centers: the lumbar axis as related to the distribution of energies from same through the lower portion of the body, and especially the feet as related to this. Then the 9th dorsal plexus as related to the activities of the upper hepatic circulation and the activities of digestion. Then the 1st, 2nd and 3rd dorsal as related to the cardiac’s reaction. Then THROUGHOUT the area of the vagus centers, the first cervicals; then, to be sure, those about the face, the head; those to the activities of the balancing through the auditory and through the vision, and through those centers that relate to the nasal passages, the antrum, the soft tissue in the lower jaw as well as the upper.
-
Also we would keep the activities as related to body-building forces, as may be had with those Oils that produce the better vitamin reactions in the system; the Halibut rather than the Cod Liver for this body. OR there may be taken instead at times those properties carried in the very sea foods themselves, if used often during such periods; especially sword fish, codfish, mackerel and the like. These, of course, are not to be all the diet, but these often included in the diet will be effective for this particular body.
-
The exercises and activities of the body should be kept near to normal. Do not overstrain the body - that is, in any exercise as of the dance or the exercises as combined with same. Not that the body should become dilatory, but do not OVERSTIMULATE the activities through the periods the body is passing in the present.
-
Ready for questions.
-
(Q) In what form should she take the Halibut Oil? What dosage and how often? (A) This as we find comes ready prepared in pellets, or the like; and these would be taken after the milk - one pellet mornings and evenings.
-
(Q) Should she also take A, B, D, G capsules by Parke, Davis? (A) This depends upon whether or not the Halibut Oils or the diets as indicated are a part of the regular diet. If those properties are supplied through that particular class or character of seafood mentioned, then the other vitamins are NOT near so necessary. But if it is preferable to make changes in the diet, use then the others as prepared by Parke, Davis.
-
(Q) Would it be well for [1179] to go into the Saturday morning class exercise with Bluestone in N.Y.? (A) This would be very well, if there is not the OVERSTRAINING of the body in same.
-
(Q) Would it be better for her to have private work with Bluestone? (A) In the class will be more effective for the body.
-
(Q) Should she have Swedish massage? (A) The massage for this body, as for most bodies, is most beneficial. Let this be for stimulation to the superficial circulation, and as we find that as indicated would be very well (Swedish) - once or twice a week; or, preferably as we find, about twice in three weeks, or about ten days apart, see? and then these kept ESPECIALLY through the period of the winter or cold season, rather than in the spring or summer.
-
(Q) How can [1179] get rid of her warts? (A) Apply a paste of baking soda with Castor Oil. Mix together and apply of evenings. Just the proportions so it makes almost a GUM; not as dough but more as gum, see? A pinch between the fingers with three to four drops in the palm of the hand, and this worked together and then placed on - bound on. It may make for irritation after the second or third application, but leave it off for one evening and then apply the next - and it will be disappearing! [See 1179-4 Reports.]
-
(Q) How can her appetite be improved? (A) Too oft we find there is anxiety about appetites for growing individuals especially, as may be about this body - as the body is rather “fussy,” as it would be called, about what it eats.
As we find, where there is being supplied the necessary vitamins by properties given in the system, this then cuts off the desire for the supply to the body, see?
Hence as has been indicated, we would use certain characters of foods - especially in seafoods of the natures indicated - to supply the elements in such manners that they are assimilated and thus make for the increasing of the appetite, or the desire for the supply of elements that would make for body-building. These are the manners in which the supply for the body may be aided.
Too oft we find that where properties are supplied in the concentrated vitamin contents they take the place of foods; hence the appetites apparently are NOT active, when the real reaction is in the CANNED or pill activity and not from BODY reactions, see?
-
(Q) Should [1179] take Ventriculin with Iron? (A) As we find for the body with these forces and influences as have been indicated for the body, and if these are kept in the manners given, one dose of the Ventriculin with Iron in a week, one dose in ten days or such matter would be sufficient - through the periods of the cold weather. For this supplies that which does NOT take away appetite, but that which should require the supplying for the building properties in the system. The quantity taken at a time would be not too high; a teaspoonful not heaping but rounded.
-
(Q) Should she take Squibb’s Di-calcium Phosphate with viosterol? (A) When there are indications of cold or congestion, but otherwise not too often.
-
(Q) Abbot’s Dulcet Bar Di-calcium Phosphate, plain? (A) No.
-
(Q) Squibb’s Yeast tablets? (A) These are very well when there are the disturbances through eliminations. These carry foods into the system that make for activities in the intestinal forces of the system, which is very good. But these activities SHOULD be builded in the body! These tablets, though, we would use occasionally; or sufficiently often to keep the bodily forces in the proper eliminations through the alimentary system.
-
(Q) The Radio-Active Appliance? (A) This is a balancing force for a growing body especially, and hence would be very good. It is best used, as we have so oft indicated, in series; that is, when the body is TIRED take it at any time, but series of treatments or applications for thirty to forty to fifty minutes when taken; taking each day for a series of two to three weeks, leave off a week to ten days. If taken three weeks, leave off two weeks. If taken two weeks, leave off for ten days. Then repeat again. But keep the attachments circulating about the body. The variations in such attachments are as this: To each application we find there is the circulation through the system of impulses or vibratory forces of the body, that move - as might be roughly described - as the figure eight. Now: The first extremity to which the application is made becomes the positive pole, by the very setting up of the vibratory forces that produce in the Appliance what may be called the magnet that builds up by the very nature of the building of the forces in the Appliance itself. So the discharge then (that builded up) is constantly to the opposite extremity to which the Appliance is attached, see? So this is to keep a balance, then. Not that the extremities are to receive the most, for this would become really irritating. For there’s no such thing that if an application can’t help, it can’t hurt! Because if it is helpful, mis-applied it must be harmful - this is natural!
So this Appliance if attached properly makes easy rest, makes for the replenishing of the activities of the system in their proper relationships one to another.
- We are through with this reading.

Reports
Reports & Follow-up
R1. 7/6/38 Mother secured 1179-5 for her while she was at Noyes Rhythm Camp.
R2. 7/14/70 Report by A.R.E. Member, Barbara S. Herman, for her daughter, aged six, Pam: “Doctor J. A. White removed the wart with an electric needle. One week later it was back. I applied castor oil and baking soda paste twice a day for about two hours for five days. About seven days later I observed my child’s foot and the wart was completely gone - thanks to Cayce and faith in God.”
R3. 8/27/70 George Jorgensen, 3526 W. Webster, Royal Oak, MI 48072, wrote: “My daughter Lisa, who is 12 years old, had a big plantars wart on her heel, we took her to a specialist, and had it cut away, it left a big open hole in the heel, and it took a long time to heal, about three weeks, then it was fine for about a month and then it came back, but this time there were two warts one big and a small one next to it. I started looking through the Cayce readings and found one for removing moles and warts. You take 1 tablespoon of castor oil, and mix in with 1/4 teaspoon of baking soda. Lisa put this solution on every nite before bedtime, and covered it loosely with a bandaid, besides I advised her to use foot powder in her stockings and shoes, until it was healed. It took less than three weeks, and it was gone without a trace. Lisa’s girlfriend had the same trouble, and she was due for an operation, when she heard about Lisa’s cure, she was more than willing to try it, and was healed in about the same span of time. I have one more case, where I know the cure was complete. I have been trying to find the page where I read the formula, but so far no luck, but I’ll let you know.”
R4. 11/22/72 Roger T. Wilson, RR2, Box 209, California, MD 20619, wrote: “About one year ago, a small growth appeared on my left cheek just next to the ear. It grew to about three- sixteenths inch in a conical shape outward from the skin. There was a small crust on the tip. I cut it off and discovered there was a pocket of blood inside. I tried the spirits of camphor and baking soda treatment daily, holding the wet soda on with a band-aid. This treatment caused the growth to recede to almost nothing but there was a slight hard place that could be felt with the finger nail. When I stopped the treatment, the growth reappeared about a sixteenth inch lower than the original one. Later, a growth also reappeared at the original spot. I now tried soaking baking soda with castor oil, using band-aids to hold the mixture to the skin. The growths subsided in about two weeks, to one tiny hard spot. I continued to apply the castor oil-soda mixture as a massage, without band-aids for about two months and eventually the skin became normal.”
R5. 1/30/75 Robert O. Clapp wrote: “I had a cluster of four wart ‘mountains’ on the inside of my finger and it had been there for a number of years. Occasionally I put castor oil on it but not consistently and there was no change. Finally I decided to use Spirits of Camphor and Baking Soda held on with a bandaid and repeat until I got results. The treatment caused some pain and irritation (I guess the body didn’t like being told what to do) but I persisted (for about a week) until I was able to tear the ‘mountains’ out. Within a week the resultant crater had healed over leaving no trace of a scar. As far as I’m concerned Mr. Cayce really knew what he was talking about when it comes to removing warts and this encourages me to believe the validity of his other readings.”
R6. 1/25/74 Report from Verona Floyd, Eugene, Oregon: ”…I had a brown rough spot under my right eye about the size of a dime. It was not sore but would bother me, it was so scaly, and looked very bad. In one of the files I read about castor oil and soda. I used this only once. It did not make the place sore, but did remove the scale and brown color and it seems to be smaller now and only a faint pink color is left. The way I used the castor oil and soda - I mixed it, put it on in a lump and used two band-aids across it to hold it on. I did not remove it until the third day. I was surprised when I saw the change in the brown place.
“Thank you all there at A.R.E. for the fine work you are doing…”
R7. 1/75 Mrs. Vincent Martina, Rt. 1, Box 1, Wayland, N.Y. 14572 wrote: “Two years ago someone told me to apply castor oil to several large warts on my son’s feet and spreading to his hands, which I had been trying to ignore as I had heard the cost involved with a dermatologist (something like $12 a wart for X-ray.)
“We put it on each wart daily and covered with bandaids. And within a few days out popped all the small ones and in a day or two more all the large ones, all leaving a neat little crater, which filled in in no time.
“Have been broadcasting this all over ever since.”
R8. 1/27/75 Virginia Staples, P.O. Box 20002, Portland, Oregon wrote: “My son Lyndon J. Staples had a growth on his right foot on the side of his big toe, kept getting larger, very painful so took him to the doctor. The doctor had me soak his foot. We made two trips to the Clinic (‘Bess Kaiser’). On the second trip Lindy complained that his hand hurt. He had the same growth in the palm of his hand.
“Can’t remember this doctor’s name but he called in a skin specialist, a Dr. Romaine. Dr. Romaine could not decide what the growths were - but he prescribed a liquid Sal. Ac. 10% to be applied twice a day (I see on the bottle it is dated 1/23/74, so it was just one year ago.) “I applied this for over a week and the growths continued to get larger. Had to take Lindy out of P.E. If I remember they were playing volleyball then.
“Had just finished reading THE SLEEPING PROPHET. Was very impressed so I got small bottle of Castor Oil and a big box of bandaids. Before he went to school, applied the Castor Oil and before he went to bed, we soaked the hand, applied more Castor Oil. The toe completely healed within a week. But his hand was pretty bad. It took almost a month. Whatever the growth was, was really weird - about a week before it died it had blood vessels all the way around it - about the size of a dime. I took a needle and started working it out. For a few days one or two of the blood vessels dried up. Then one day it just lifted out. For another day I put the Castor Oil on and a bandaid, just to make sure. Now, there isn’t even a scar and whatever it was has never returned.
“Suppose I should have taken Lindy back to the doctors, but they weren’t even sure what it was and their medicine didn’t help. Really hope this helps you. My boy was 11 years old at the time…”
R9. 2/11/76 Report from A.R.E. Member, Wendelyn Crosby: “I ordered the file on warts and moles because I had a total of four small to good-sized warts on the bottoms of my feet. About three days after receiving the file and looking through it, I began applying a paste of castor oil and baking soda to the warts at night. I did this every night for about three weeks, up to the present time. Whenever I bathed, I also rubbed the loosened parts of the warts off and they became smaller. As of now, the warts are totally gone. I will continue with the paste until the skin around the areas is healed. All this took only three weeks. I did it every night and sometimes during the day and I think that it is important to keep a consistent routine as to application. Thank you.”
R10. 5/7/76 Report by A.R.E. member, Rebecca Phillips: “Recently my fifteen year old son showed us his foot. He had a large and a medium sized corn or callous, so he thought, on the sole of his foot. I suggested he apply castor oil, but rather than follow my suggestion, he used Dr. Scholl’s corn and callous remover at his dad’s suggestion. Dr. Scholl’s concoction didn’t help remove his corns, but fortunately, it didn’t seem to hinder or change until one day my son wanted me to look. When I did, the entire heel area of his sole was covered with tiny warts as well as the large and medium one being still there. He finally decided to take my suggestion and daily wore a cotton square saturated with castor oil covering the whole colony of plantar’s warts. In about ten days the smaller ones had turned black or dark and were falling out. The large and medium warts are much smaller, very dark and we know that they will soon be gone. I am sure the process of removal would have been speeded up if he would have worn the castor oil twenty-four hours a day, rather than just the twelve to sixteen hours daily he has been wearing the pad.
“How I wish we had been aware of this about three years ago when our daughter had a large plantar’s wart. It was removed by a physical therapist using an ultrasonic machine, taking many weeks of treatments and a sum of money as well as time involved in meeting appointments.
“The information on moles is very helpful as I had considered applying castor oil for removal. I will just carefully watch them for any changes that might occur, and feel it best not to try removing them, as the readings suggest.”
R11. 5/10/76 Report by A.R.E. member, Donald McArthur: ”…My wife used castor oil and baking soda as a paste on her plantar’s warts which had made walking painful and within a few days they were gone completely…”
R12. 8/7/77 Report by A.R.E. member, Joan Hernek: ”…I recently attended the conference on the “Nature Of Love.” While there, I did some research in the readings on warts. My daughter has had a large cluster of warts on a knuckle for many months, which totally resisted medical treatment.
“When I returned home, we began applying castor oil to the warts twice a day. I am happy to inform you that they are completely gone.
“I am grateful to God, Edgar Cayce, and all the dedicated people who worked so hard on putting together the Circulating Files…”
R13. 6/24/79 GD rec’ed ltr. from A.R.E. member, Dene Polis, 1611-C Valley Ave., Birmingham, ALA 35209 with the following report: “I am an ARE member and I would like to take a moment of your time to tell you of an experience with my son.
“He was diagnosed as having approximately 10 Plantar’s Warts on the bottom of his feet. I tried the ‘Compound W’ like the doctor suggested, but the warts still persisted. Then I remembered Dr. Reilly’s book with Cayce formulas. And there it was - a “Baking Soda and Castor Oil paste” formula for “Plantar’s Warts.” I used it. It worked. Of course, I was persistent. I applied the paste every night. It took almost seven weeks, but I knew that if Mr. Cayce said it would work
- it would.
“The warts are gone completely.”
R14. 12/26/80 John Worthington, Ontario, Canada wrote: “Regarding results from advice received in the files. I had a wart on the tip of my left thumb just out from under the nail and it had been there for over two years. I used baking soda and castor oil as the reading advised and my wart has now disappeared. It took two months to get results and when I think about it I could easily have been discouraged. But there is that mysterious power all through the Edgar Cayce readings which never makes me doubt the love and force of His authority.”
R15. 3/29/83 Joe McNamara, M.D., Dublin, Ireland wrote: “Recently I’ve been bothered by plantar warts and, amazingly, after all the years I knew of Cayce’s remedy, I never used it - that is, until they started to hurt (symbolic lesson!). The castor oil and soda worked like a miracle and within two weeks the warts had disappeared. I suppose I had motivation for wanting them to go - the surgical treatment isn’t nice and often doesn’t work!”
