This Psychic Reading given by Edgar Cayce at his home, 322 Grafton Avenue, Dayton, Ohio, this 19th day of August, 1924, in accordance with request made by Mr. [1180].

Time of Reading Lands in Wichita Co., 10:30 A. M. Dayton Savings Time. …, Texas.

1. GC: You have before you the lands in N. & G. N. Railroad Survey #35, landowner Emma Everett. Also the H. D. Collins Survey #36, landowner Emma Everett, in Wichita County, Texas, about 2 1/2 miles Northwest of Bacon, Texas.

You will please tell us if oil or gas will be found on these properties in paying quantities, and at what depth, and where would be the best place for a location for drilling. Also what direction from this does the trend of the production go.

2. EC: Now, we find that there may be oil found in paying quantities on portions of the property as given. We find through this section there are various producing wells to the South and East. Also to the South and West. Also farther North and West there is larger production or numbers of producing wells. In this land, as given, Emma Everett, we are speaking of, you see. In the North and East portion, or corner of section or division 36, we would find there shallow oil; that is, at a depth of 442 and 556, in the extension of this same crevice through which this oil comes. In the deeper portion we would find would be in division 35, coming then near the North and West portion of these lands. This in the North and East in 36, in North and West in 35. This we would find could be located by the surface formation in this manner: There is a ridge through a portion, and this comes on the North and East slope of this ridge. This would be in the 20 acre corner of the division 36, and in the 200 division North and West in 35. Here we will find the production at those depths will be better than 60 barrels of oil per day. In the one running 34, in the other running 89. Drill there.

3. (Q) What direction does the trend of the production go from these divisions? (A) Southeast. In this country, this district, we will find many pools of oil. These, however, we will find only come through the crevice or break caused in the Paleozoic formation, or from deep oils, and the pools are the folds that have been made in the lower cretacebus formation, that are the storehouse or the outlet for these pressure as made in lower strata. This extends to the South and East, rising and falling, and pinched out in many places, for we find as here, in this trend, it goes in the second sub-division farther to the South and East, though tending more in the Easterly direction after leaving the division in 36.

4. (Q) Is there any other location nearby better than this one you have given to drill on? (A) The 200, as given, in 35, is the larger producing, then skipping farther to the South and East. These best in lands, as given here.

B1. 7/3/24 Letter from [1180] to EC from Wichita Falls: “You no doubt think I have been a long time writing and sending more acreage for readings. Well we have been very busy have drilled three dry holes on our own lease since I wrote you last so think it about time we were getting some one to locate some oil for us, and now if you can give a little of your time we are ready to go.

“I am sending you a new ownership map of Wichita Co., on which I have a large block of acreage marked as Plot No. 1 this lies between three good shallow and deep fields and has all indications that there should be lots of shallow oil. Most any of this land can be leased for drilling, so if you can take a rdg. on that block and locate some good shallow stuff any where you can give me the location as near as possible then I will at once trace it down and furnish you with all data possible to make us an accurate location.

“Now understand there is some of this I might not be able to get a lease on so if convenient for you and you find more than one pool on this to give me all you can on it. Then we want something less than a thousand feet the best stuff around this is from four to six hundred so if you will work on this and communicate with me we will drill on anything you locate on this block that is available and I think any part of it is, or will drill anywhere in the county you may say for a wild cat.

“We have our tools and all the pipe necessary to make a test and ready to go as soon as can get anything lined up. We are now just starting another well but will finish it next week and will then be ready for yours.

“You may keep this map so anything I ask you about you can locate it on your map then anything you locate on it you may send me the survey and Number then I can go direct to it.

“I have also marked off another likely territory with red pencil and marked it Plot No. 2 which you may also take a report on if you think it good.

“I will say better than fifty percent of the blocks we sent you before have proven out good but we were not able nor felt safe to drill them besides it was all deep.

“We are planning on a trip home this fall so will surely see you then if you are still in Ohio but we would like to drill a couple more wells first.

“Now I shall look for a letter very soon and any information you may desire we will be glad to furnish.

B3. 7/18/24 Letter from EC to [1180], written from Washington Hotel, Chicago, Ill.: “I have yours of the 3rd, also the maps enclosed. I have been on the go for the last ten days and have been unable to take the matter up. In thinking the thing over, and noting what you have to say regarding drilling the wild cat well, I am wondering if you would not be interested in the well in central Texas, on the property I started a well on sometime ago [5628-2, San Saba Co., Tex.?]. I am sure there can be sufficient acreage blocked there to make the proposition worth while. In fact, I know a gentle man, who is a very personal friend of mine, who already has sufficient acreage there [M. B. Wyrick, [4905] series, Bosque Co., Tex.?] to make it a good drilling proposition. You will have only to go about twenty-six hundred feet. It will not be hard drilling, with the prospects of the biggest production that has been obtained in any Texas field, and all of the reports that I have ever gotten (meaning personal now) give that one thing. Geological reports vary a great deal, but I have been over the property with some of the best geologists in the country and they are of the opinion that the deepest and longest live sand might be and have every reason to expect to be found there as well as some shallower sands that would be good pay.

“Now, as soon as it is possible, I will go into this other matter for you. I believe, however, the plat’s as marked on the map are too large to be covered in a rdg., and I am afraid are too indefinite, unless I understood how to read the map as to range, etc. unless I was take individual tracts of land, and are they supposed to be owned by the people whose name appear on the map? Let me know about this at once, for at the first opportunity we will take it up, and I want to know if you will consider the other proposition and drilling same. If so, this friend of mine will come to see you and open negotiations, which I feel quite positive will prove the best thing you ever handled.

B4. 7/24/24 [1180]‘s letter to EC: “Yours of the 18th, to hand and will say this for your Central Texas proposition, if we can get a large enough acreage, and in right kind of shape to handle, it is just what we want for just a little later but however we might begin to get it in shape now and drill it ourselves. I would be glad to receive any information you may give in regard to a way of handling same.

“As for the map, I sent you, the name of the owner, is on each tract of land and if plot marked off is too large you may subdivide it to suit in plot No. 1. It is generally known there is shallow oil all through this tract so if you can give me some idea, as to the most likely location, I will at once get busy on same and communicate with you at once.

“I will finish a six fifty, well tomorrow started since I last wrote you then our shallow rig will be idle until can get this acreage ready therefore I will greatly, appreciate it if you can give me some report on it as early as possible as am very anxious to get on a good location again and will also be very glad to go into detail with your proposition and let you know just what we think we can do.

“Now if you can not use what I sent you I wish you would outline, just what you want as I have no particular place that looks any better than the rest.
