This Psychic Reading given by Edgar Cayce at his home on Arctic Crescent, Virginia Beach, Va., this 3rd day of April, 1940, in accordance with request made by themselves - Mr. [1226] and Mrs. [1711], Associate Members of the Ass”n for Research & Enlightenment, Inc.

Time of Reading 4:25 to 4:40 P. M. Eastern Standard Time. …, Virginia.

1. GC: You will have before you the entities present in this room, [1711] and [1226] who seek a constructive plan for their life together. You will give them information, advice and guidance concerning their material, mental and spiritual welfare, answering the questions, as I ask them:

2. EC: Yes, we have the bodies, the enquiring minds, [1711] and [1226]; also those conditions and problems in material, mental and spiritual phases of same, in the present.

3. As we find, there are many conditions to be considered, when such conditions as exist here are to be met.

4. First, to be sure, there is to be kept the spiritual and mental attitudes that are of a constructive and creative nature, but these alone are not enough, - these are to be made practical in the daily experience, the daily application of selves as respecting the needs materially, the obligations materially, the duties materially. Not that these are to be irrespective of the mental and spiritual, but should all be made to be cooperative, coordinating in their relationships one to another.

5. As to the manners and means in which this is to be accomplished, - in the one there have been channels indicated through which helpful influences and forces might be attained. These in the present, as we find, come to mean little for material gains.

6. Hence, then, the strength and the abilities of each should be turned in such a way and manner that the channels of activity may bring more and more a coordinative, cooperative influence and force.

7. As to what outlets the activities of each should lend themselves, in ways and means and manners for the carrying on and the meeting of the needs:

8. We find that the active service of one has at times been most helpful, most beneficial; while in the other there have been at times discouraging and disturbing influences.

9. Yet the life of each is dependent upon the other.

10. As we find, now, those channels that have to do with the conservation work that is a portion of the Government activity should be the means through which the entity, [1226], may find that which will enable the entity to meet those obligations, those duties, those OPPORTUNITIES that are being presented as problems in the present.

11. This application would be made through the regular channels as from State and National activity; which will require labor, yes, - but this is not only for the mental and PHYSICAL betterment of the entity but for the betterment of all conditions, all circumstances, and would be the more helpful way and manner.

12. Ready for questions.

13. (Q) Is there any particular individual, or individuals, with whom we either or both should be associated, to help solve our economic problems? (A) As we find, through those channels as indicated the channel will be offered through which the ecomonic problems may be met.

14. (Q) Is a Physical Reading necessary for [1226] to help him solve his problem, to accomplish his work? (A) This as we find might be beneficial, but through those same channels through which direction is being made there may be the greater care and attention given for those things which will be necessary for the preserving of better health.

15. (Q) Will his greater success be attained through work with violins and musical instruments, or in some other line? (A) As indicated, these channels of activity as just indicated have nothing to do with the holding back work that may be accomplished with the musical instruments. But the needs because of economic changes in the present require that special effort be made in those directions that are a part of the abilities of the entity, to make the associations in the musical instruments rather a part of the experience. One should aid to other, see?

16. (Q) Please specify just how he should go about getting into this work. (A) Through those regular channels. For there are the regular boards that require applications being made, through the conservation corp, see?

17. (Q) How, and in what former incarnation, were we associated, and what are the urges in the present? (A) In the appearance before this, as may be paralleled from one and also from the other because of the activities; for we find the associations then were rather as the brother and the sister; being dependent one upon the other for the directions and the encouragement to meet the needs of those experiences through which they passed.

18. (Q) How can we each be the most help to the other? (A) In applying those principles in which the mental and spiritual attributes are made practical and applicable in the daily experience, in the encouraging of one another. These are better ways and manners.

Hold fast to the faith in self, - yes; but in God the more.

19. (Q) Any other advice or counsel? (A) As we find, there are acquaintances, there are helpful influences, - both politically and socially, or of a filial nature; and if there are the efforts and definite stands taken to act through those channels indicated, then help will be brought.

Do that.

20. We are through for the present.

R1. GD’s note: We heard later that Mr. [1226] had passed a Civil Service examination and been employed as a Post Office Clerk.

R2. 8/26/41 EC read Mr. [1226]‘s aura at the Tuesday Night Bible Group meeting - see recorded under 5746-1, Par. R2.

R3. 5/10/42 He obtained an Aura Chart Reading - See 1226-3.

R4. 6/5/47 He contributed copies of the book, THERE IS A RIVER, to several prison libraries.

R5. 10/48 He became a worker on the E.C.F. campaign to raise funds to make the EC readings available.

R6. GD’s note: In 1954 he retired from the P.O. after 19 yrs. of service. Although he called himself an “outdoor” man, to please his wife he had held this job all these years. He retired to take care of her, because she was so forgetful she would not remember to turn off the stove, etc. She would wander into the street and get lost. Finally, in the late 1950’s, he had to put her in an institution because he could not control her, or keep her at home, etc. She died in the mental institution, 6/24/59.

R7. 7/7/64 In the A.R.E. Study Group of which he was a member he reminisced about his personal conversations with Edgar Cayce and his researches into the philosophy of the Edgar Cayce readings. Many of the A.R.E. members considered him a walking encyclopedia not only of the readings but of all types of knowledge. He had played in a band when he was only 9. After World War I he was assigned to a Navy band in Philadelphia, and the first day the director of the band was Phillip Sousa - “He was a wonderful director.” Mr. [1226] had a wonderful sense of humor. When asked if he still played, he answered with a grin, “Now I only play for my own amazement.”

When Mr. [1226] was 20, Luther Burbank came to see an apple orchard where [1226] worked in N.Y. State. For the rest of the season Burbank had [1226] catching and identifying bugs for the horticulturist to study.

Mr. [1226] was very fond of children and would teach and keep them entertained for hours at a time. At 71 he was doing research, water colors, and said “I try to do something helpful for someone each day, wherever I go.”

R8. 2/9/66 He died suddenly with a heart attack, his only survivor (besides nieces and nephews) being his twin sister.

R9. Christmas - 1946 Article written by [1226]: There is a story very old, and yet - ‘tis even new. The world has never lost its’ hope, Because - ‘tis ever true.

In Bethleham the herald angels sang, Peace on Earth to all Men of God Will; announcing the Birth of Christ the King the Savior of all Mankind!

Bending over the Chirst child, Mary the Mother knelt, out of the East, on Camels back - came the Three Wise Men, - To worship the Little Babe, bringing their gifts to the King of Kings, of Frankincense, Gold, and Myrrh.

Can not we who have been so blest, be as wise as they, bring to the world again today, Peace that will Last always?
