This psychic reading given by Edgar Cayce at the home of Mr. David E. Kahn, 20 Woods Lane, Scarsdale, N.Y., this 11th day of November, 1936, in accordance with request made by the godmother, Mrs. […], new Active Member of the Ass”n for Research & Enlightenment, Inc., Virginia Beach, Va.
[Edgar Cayce; Gertrude Cayce, Conductor; Gladys Davis, Steno.]
Time of Reading 11:00 to 11:10 A. M. Eastern Standard Time. …, Ala. (Physical Suggestion)
-
EC: Yes.
-
As we find the conditions that have surrounded this body are of very unusual natures.
-
Under the existent conditions and circumstances, would it be well that there be made attempts to hinder in the natural courses of the relationships in life, in experience that should come to all through these experiences?
-
It is well rather that those to whom the body-physical has been entrusted be counseled with as respecting their attitudes, their purposes, their conditions in the activities of life as relate to the associations of individual experiences with the Divine Purpose in the mind and experience of each and every soul that enters into an earthly existence.
-
And that these through their relationships to their fellow man, their relationships to circumstances, their relationships to conditions as arise in the experience of every one, are to be such that there is a demonstration of that which they as individuals would worship, in that they have set as their God.
-
Know that though the trials and vicissitudes of life oft appear to be controversial, to be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord, the God in self that has been and is that real manifestation of the life itself in a material plane.
-
Hence, as we would give, look to Him rather who is the resurrection and the life, who has promised to all who call on Him that He will hear, that He will bear with them the trials, the experiences in every hour, even through the shadows, even through the river of death.
-
These should be rather the thoughts that each and every individual about the entity may purport in their minds, their hearts and lives; that from this day forth,
-
“OTHERS MAY DO AS THEY MAY, BUT FOR ME, I WILL SERVE A LIVING GOD, METING IN EVERY RELATIONSHIP WITH AND DOING UNTO MY FELLOW MEN AS I WOULD DESIRE, AS I WOULD LIKE THEM TO DO UNTO ME.”
-
Know that only in such an experience, only in such relationships with the fellow man may there come the voice of “Well done.” Only in such may come peace and harmony.
-
And when there are resentments held, when there are disappointments, know that the hurt is as much with Him as with thee - unless they be of a selfish nature.
-
For we find no thought of self in His experience before men, but that all men everywhere - in every walk of life - should know the light, and through Him have an advocate with the Father. That ye have in thine experience.
-
Carry on in those ways and manners that seemeth best in the present, leaving the results then with the Divine Within.
-
For the soul hath grown weary of the aches and the pains, of the outlook upon life in a body racked with the influences of materiality that have been neglected to be brought into the proper relationships with Creative Forces.
-
Then let thy prayer be:
-
“Thy Will, Thy Mercy, O God, Now; that there may be done in my life, his life, that as Thou seest best! To HIM, O God, we commit his keeping.”
-
We are through for the present.

Reports
Reports & Follow-up
R1. 11/12/36 Letter from EC to [1289]‘s godmother:
“When there is such information presented though the readings as came in our try for the young man, [1289], there isn’t much for us to say. Only wish I was near enough to run in and talk with you, and know something more personal of the conditions and circumstances. If after reading this over you would like to write, would be very glad to hear from you.
“Can only hope and pray it may be of some help to you, and what ever is the out come that it will be in keeping with Divine will, and the best for all. May the God of mercy and Truth be with you and the young man,” Sincerely, EC
R2. 11/16/36 Letter from [1289]‘s godmother to EC:
“Your reading fails to tell us what is the cause of [1289]‘s illness or the treatment to be given - since he has been sick since July (had three convulsions and is still having fever every day) and the doctors can’t find the cause of the illness, we were in hopes that you could help us. I still believe that you can.
“Dr. Grapes [Nona Grapes, N.D.] suggests that you give another reading - will you do this?
“With best regards, I am,” Sincerely yours, […]
R3. 11/16/36 Letter from [1289]‘s godmother to EC:
“Your letter of the 12th received this morning - of course it is needless for us to say that we were puzzled by the reading. Mr. […] [my husband] says I was too worried about [1289] and perhaps that interfered with the reading.
“I wrote you this morning explaining the boy’s illness and why we were so anxious for a reading - [1289] is able to be up now, but is still having fever every day.
“[1289] makes his home with us - with the full consent of his parents - and since we have no children of our own - of course we are very devoted to him - and our home life is very happy.
“Dr. Bayne [Bayne, M.D.] said that the convulsions [1289] had were very much like epilepsy. We felt that if something wasn’t done right away he would be handicapped for life.
“Mr. Cayce you can help us - won’t you try another reading.”
Sincerely yours, Mr. & Mrs. […]
R4. 12/10/36 Dr. Grapes submitted questions, including:
“Can anything more be done than is being done to normalize bowels?”
R5. 12/14/36 See 1289-2.
R6. 7/60 See Dr. Pahnke’s report under 1289-2 indicating the reading’s diagnosis was “congenital syphilis”.

B2. 10/28/36 Godmother’s letter: “Please send me as soon as possible a psychic reading for my godson, [1289], age 11 yrs.
