1. GC: You will give the physical condition of this body at the present time with suggestions for further corrective measures, answering the questions, as I ask them:

2. EC: Yes, quite serious conditions here.

3. The giving of transfusions will only be temporary relief, for the conditions in liver and in the area.

4. Operative measures, while it will become necessary for more than one transfusion to prepare the body for sufficient ability of the blood to coagulate, would be the better. Do these, for they offer the hope; but there is little hope of complete recovery.

5. (Q) Is condition malignant? (A) It will be found to be such that it is not truly malignant but one portion of the liver is entirely too soft to remain, and this taken out doesn’t offer hope.

6. (Q) Where would be the best place to take her for the operation? (A) Marion, Ohio or Rochester, Minnesota.

7. (Q) Any other suggestions for building up the body for operation? (A) Only the regular combinations which are given, plenty of glucose, liver extract, blood plasma itself, will be needed if the body is to remain for any period.

R1. 6/17/44 Mrs. [760]‘s letter: “[2704] got a letter from [852] Saturday saying [1312] was getting along alright, tho terribly weak. Said the doctors said she had just 1/2 the blood she should have, and they were trying to build her up. They said she would be able to leave the hospital [Mayo’s] in two weeks, but I doubt it.”

R2. 7/7/44 EC’s letter to Miss [243]: “[1312] is now at Mayo’s. I don’t believe she will ever come home well, if she comes home alive at all. It seems to be the same trouble […] had in some respects.”

R3. 7/15/44 EC’s letter to Mrs. [760]: “I am mighty happy to know that [1312] is home again and that there is the possibility of having several years yet with comparative ease. I just hope she gets along alright.”

R4. 1/13/60 Daughter Mrs. [852]‘s letter: “All of the family are fairly well except Mother. Her blood pressure is extremely high, and she feels so nervous and shaky most of the time. She has failed so much during the past year.”

R5. 8/63 GD’s note: I saw Mrs. [1312] when her daughter, Mrs. [852], brought her by to visit me. She looked well to me, though she complained of not feeling well. It is interesting that she outlived all these years EC, GC and all the others who were so concerned about her, as her Aunt [760], Brother [419], Aunt [1795], Cousin [569], etc., friend Miss [243], etc.
