This Psychic Reading given by Edgar Cayce at his home on Arctic Crescent, Virginia Beach, Va., this 2nd day of April, 1937, in accordance with request made by the self - Mr. [1313], Associate Member of the Ass”n for Research & Enlightenment, Inc.

Time of Reading 11:15 to 11:25 A. M. Eastern Standard Time. …, Md. (Physical Suggestion)

1. EC: Yes - as we find, the conditions with the body are not so well as when we last had same.

2. There is the more acute condition in the glandular reactions, especially in the prostate - where the general disturbance or the specific reaction has become more acute.

3. As we find, while the present applications are beneficial in some respects, they become aggravating in others. For the low vitality, the lack of ionization or the ability of oxidization, the high electrical vibrations tend to break these up.

4. IF this is carried sufficiently far it may be a helpful experience.

5. As we would find in the present - being mindful of the diet; and naturally it is necessary to keep quiet for at least sufficient period for the conditions to readjust themselves - the use of the Elliot Machine with the Prostate Appliance would be the more preferable, the more beneficial treatment.

6. If there would be given the high frequency electrical vibrations then farther apart, rather than so often, these with the changes might be helpful.

7. These as we find, as to the acidity of the system, to be sure work a hardship; but the heat applied as it may be with the Appliance for such conditions, with the Elliot applicator, will be the better.

8. Ready for questions.

9. (Q) Will an operation be necessary for the gland? (A) This would be unless there are many changes - just the end.

10. (Q) What medicine is required, if any? (A) Only that to keep a proper balance in the alkalinity and acidity of the system; such as Milk of Magnesia or Milk of Bismuth with Elixir of Lactated Pepsin, these taken occasionally; to be sure, not together - but the Magnesia as an eliminant, as well as that to produce general alkalinity. The Milk of Bismuth with the Pepsin would be taken once or twice a week; a teaspoonful in a glass of water with about six to ten drops of the Elixir of Lactated Pepsin. This is an absorbent and will aid throughout the intestinal tract in relieving those tendencies for congestion.

11. (Q) Will driving long distances prove troublesome? (A) As has been given, the body should remain quiet for sufficient time to allow a healing to be effective or helpful.

12. (Q) How about diet? (A) As has been indicated.

13. (Q) Will the treatment I am now receiving be helpful and how long should it be continued if advisable? (A) As has been indicated; long standing - if the body is very quiet - might become helpful; provided the rest of the system responded. With the heat and these electrical forces farther apart, most beneficial.

14. We are through for the present.

(PLEASE ANSWER THE FOLLOWING QUESTIONS CAREFULLY)

(1) In your opinion did the analysis of the Reading cover the condition? Absolutely NOT. The so-called reading did not touch on any symptom whatever further, the remedy prescribed was ridiculous.

(2) Give symptoms of condition described correctly? You will have to look up your files for this information for I destroyed all of this matter as being worthless.

(3) What was the physician’s analysis of this condition? Prostate gland trouble ONLY - This was operated upon later.

(4) Have the suggestions given in the Reading been followed exactly as outline? Yes to the letter as I wanted to really see whether there was anything to it.

(5) For how long? According to the instructions as per your files.

(6) Describe the extent to which improvements have resulted? There was no improvement whatever.

(7) Comment. I had two readings as per this sheet indicates and they both differed one from the other and both were of no avail.

This instance is not the first time I have been “taken in” and spent good money for nothing; and it is getting to be irksome. It is my opinion that your father, Mr. Edgar Cayce, has not helped either of two other cases that I know of who also followed his instructions as I did with the same result.

Now this matter has resulted in me spending good money for a sun lamp for the treatment that I did not need and, for medicine that did no good costing me approximately thirty dollars; I think now the least you can do is to return to me the twenty dollars I paid for this treatment, which all told cost me about fifty dollars.

I would like very much indeed for you to furnish me with at least one case where accurate diagnosis was made and appropriate remedy prescribed and satisfactory results had. I mean some person of normal reasoning and a clear and unbiased mind; one of intelligence and clear thinking etc. Can you do so; for I have not met one yet.

You may hear from me again about this matter.

Sir:-

I have to report that, I went into the matter of your helping me with an unbiased, an open and inquiring mind with a view of ascertaining whether or not you could give me relief from an ailment of which I was suffering; although I did exactly as requested, nothing happened; and, it is my opinion that, no matter how many readings you may give me the result would always be the same. I have spent money on other occasions where real relief was promised from things that would not stand up under scientific investigation but, because some one individual believed in it and praised it, I tried it on my own and, always came out poorer, but wiser for, as may be expected, the results were always nil.

I am now sixty years of age and have read a great deal, and never condemn anything before giving it a thorough trial then I know for myself whether it works or not. I know many false claims are made; many people see things in a different light and testify differently and, the general public as a whole can not be relied upon to give accurate information where real facts are sought on things of a scientific nature.

I have given your treatment a thorough trial, nothing happened, requested a second reading which was as stated different, with exactly the same result. In view of the foregoing, I request you refund my twenty dollars which you received from me and, for which I did not receive any value. Awaiting your reply.

Dear Mr. [1313]

I appreciated the frankness of your report under the date of March 21. As you must understand from having read our literature, the Association for Research and Enlightenment, Inc. is undertaking to study and present the unusual psychic abilities of my father, Edgar Cayce. Through the years his readings have been of help to people throughout this country. We base our work upon the results obtained in hundreds of cases.

It is quite logical to believe that all of his readings do not produce the same degree of results for there must be many factors that influence the transmission of the information given in each reading. When a person becomes a member of the Association, they undertake with us an experiment in psychic research. Our mutual desire is to learn more of the value of such information and its possible application in connection with meeting all kinds of everyday difficulties. The membership fee in the Association involves the transcribing of the information, the furnishing you with a typewritten copy of it, the work of filing and the follow-up reports necessary in connection with each reading. We also are able to send you regular literature published by the Association. As you must know from reading this literature, we do not make and have never made any promises in connection with such information. I am sending, if you so desire, a number of research papers giving reports from individuals and doctors relative to their studies of readings such as your own.

You certainly have a very open mind and a scientific approach, Mr. [1313] and I hope you will give this whole matter careful consideration.
