This psychic reading given by Edgar Cayce at his home on Arctic Crescent, Virginia Beach, Va., this 7th day of January, 1937, in accordance with request made by Mr. [437], Active Member of the Ass”n for Research & Enlightenment, Inc.
[Edgar Cayce; Gertrude Cayce, Conductor; Gladys Davis, Steno.]
Time of Reading 11:15 to 11:25 A. M. Eastern Standard Time. …, N.Y. (Physical Suggestion)
-
EC: Yes.
-
Now, as we find, in considering those conditions as make for disturbances with this body, all phases of same should be considered. And unless there may be the full cooperative activities of all phases in bringing the experiences to all alike, not a great deal of help or aid, as we find, may be expected.
-
True, there are definite pathological conditions. There are also psychopathic and metaphysical conditions.
-
While the individual entity or soul is in the experience meeting its own self, in doing this it is so bound up in the experiences of those that are responsible for the conditions that allow for the opportunity of expression in the individual, that these obligations, these needs for self-expression in these individuals are a part of that as may be necessary for the giving or the experiencing by the body of that as may bring a nominal, normal physical, mental and material expression for the body.
-
This responsibility, because of its requirements of constant care and the necessary patience, the necessary long forbearance, cannot be delegated to others. For that EACH soul sows, so must it meet same.
-
That the conditions in the body of the entity, then, do not coordinate, is pathological; but that as is the cause primarily is rather metaphysical - in that the very natures arise from the bodies of those responsible for its entrance into the experience in those environs from these pathological views.
-
Then, if there is manifested or expressed the desire, the sympathy, the willingness for the activities of those who should care for the body, there may then be through such channels as these aids and helps given.
-
But that as is so close to the soul, to the very activity of same - How hath it been given about the pearls?
-
These should be considered, these should be rather studied.
-
And when these have been agreed upon and indicated by those who are responsible in body, in mind, in self for same, we may aid.
-
Ready for questions.
-
We are through with this reading.

R1. 1/8/37 EC’s letter to [437]:
Dear Mr. [437]:
The information gotten at the time of the appointment for [1314]‘s reading, that when told of it by the others here why I read it over, I hope I understand it, and trust it may prove to be something very worthwhile. But seems that it will be most necessary to have the cooperation of the parents before any thing would even be attempted to be given that might be helpful, and would infer it is something that will require a great deal of time and patience on their part a most interesting report, but hope a most worthwhile one.
Notice there is reference to a Metaphysician, or conditions of a nature of that kind. Would suggest you try and have these people see Dr. Patricia Van Dyke 37 Madison Ave., your city. I understand she works with or is very close to Dr. Carrel [Alexis Carrel, M.D.] and as this case appears to be unusual might be of interest to all.
Thanks for your interest, but am very sure, Mr. [437], it is very necessary to prepare the seeker as well, as merely have a request do hope this will work out fine. Hope too the reading for Mrs. [1315] helps, understand she is feeling lots better. Hope you are keeping fine.
With kindest personal regards
Sincerely, Edgar Cayce

R3. 1/9/37 EC’s letter to [437]:
Dear Mr. [437]:
Your wire regards [1314] reading just received, wrote you yesterday, as best I understood, am sorry information disappointing, hope it can be worked out some way to be of a real help, there evidently must be some move on the part of parents in the case. Why such conditions at times present them selves we wonder. But that is why we are recording each case and trying to get a check on just as many as possible.
Let me know what you think when you have read my letter of 8th know we are glad and anxious to serve if we possibly can.
Thanking you for your time and attention
Sincerely, Edgar Cayce
R4. 1/11/37 [437]‘s letter to EC:
Dear Judge,
I received your letter of the 9th for which accept my thanks. My wire to you on that day was sent after I had received your letter of the 8th.
I am at a loss to get any clear understanding from the reading or your letters. For example, in the first paragraph [1314-1, Par. 2] of the original reading you say
“and unless there may be the full cooperative activities of all phases in bringing the experiences to all alike, not a great deal of help or aid, as we find, may be expected.”
Just what is meant by this? I know that those who are directly concerned are doing everything within their power.
Going further in the Second paragraph [Par. 3], the reading says that there are definite psychological conditions. It also says there are psychopathic and metaphysical conditions. What I want to find out is what these pathological, psychopathic and metaphysical conditions are and how to go about it.
Going down to the Fourth paragraph [Par. 5] of the reading which deals with the responsibility and the requirements of constant care and necessary patience, I would like to know just what this means.
In the next paragraph the general reference to the conditions in the body not coordinating and their being pathological is not specific enough for an intelligent handling of the situation and what I would like to arrive at is some definite indication of what to do.
If the Sixth paragraph [Par. 7] of the reading means that the parents themselves must make the application please let me know and I will see that this is done and please advise me whether this comes under the heading of a new reading or a check reading.
The reason I am so persistent in this particular instance is because I have held out great promise to the grandfather of this child and I am waiting to hear from you further before I communicate the result of the reading to him.
Kindest regards, [437]
P.S. What does Paragraph Seven [Par. 8] mean? It sound to me like a Biblical quotation. Is it?
R5. 1/12/37 EC’s letter to [437]:
Dear Mr. [437]-
Yours of the 11th to hand, must have made a bad job of trying to write you and was most anxious to do a good job of it.
As I understand Mr. [437] the request for the information should come from the parents, they assuming the obligation of carrying out such suggestions as may be made for the relief of the young man. It is not that they are not concerned not that they are not anxious, but that they must made some expression of same, and be willing to do as may be suggested and express a willingness to do so. This may all sound like so much hocuspocus to you, but has been the experience in many cases. I am making the appointment for a reading for the boy for Saturday morning the 16 if this is satisfactory with the parents and they express a desire for same. It is not a check reading, nor a first in the true sense for we haven’t had any as yet as to any thing that may be helpful. So do not want to pay for this just the indication that the parents wish it. I assure you we are more desirous to be of a help than you, but why such a condition develops once and while don’t know. Wish I did.
Yes, the Seventh paragraph [1314-1, Par. 8] is a portion of a quotation from the Bible and as I understand is to impress the need for the desire for help to come from the parents. Evidently there is something about the case, not seen on surface, either there was not the desire for the child at the time. Or something else that is not generally known. Or possibly they have an aversion for information that might come from such a source as this. Something of that nature or I do not know what.
Please let me know about Saturday morning and if child will be at same address. Assure you I desire to help if possible.
Thanking you for your time and patience.
Sincerely, Edgar Cayce
