This psychic reading given by Edgar Cayce at his home on Arctic Crescent, Virginia Beach, Va., this 25th day of January, 1937, in accordance with request made by Miss [259], through Active Membership of her mother, Mrs. [2457], in the Ass”n for Research & Enlightenment, Inc.

1. EC: Yes.

2. As we find, conditions are not so good in the physical forces of this body. There is so little resistance that the body becomes easily fatigued and the effects of the cold and flu are making inroads upon the activity of organs in such manners that the undermining of the functionings of the organs is being made very destructive.

3. These are conditions as we find them with this body, [1324] we are speaking of:

4. In the blood supply there are those tendencies for temperature - the effect of the leucocytes’ attempts to meet the needs of the condition in destroying the cold or congestion in the system.

5. This is drawing then upon the vitality of those portions of the system from which the body obtains its lymph and red blood supply.

6. Hence the great amount of aching that is felt through even the structural portions of the body at times. This excess then of the throwing off of the cold, congestion, that has been overcome by the activity in the blood supply, produces an acidity that is hard upon the activity of the pancreas and the spleen as well as upon the kidneys or the lower hepatic circulation.

7. We find, then, those activities through the lung area are being so depleted by the lack of the proper oxidization or clarifying of the air for the body that parts of the lung are becoming involved in the condition - as yet sympathetically, but unless measures are taken for the building of resistances in the system through forces easily assimilated by the body, this may become not only a constitutional but also an organic condition in the body.

8. As we would find then in the present:

9. First we would make applications that would build as much resistances for the body as possible.

10. Then, first, over the whole of the lung area, and especially the left lobe of same, we would apply an Antiphlogistine Plaster or Casement. Make this quite heavy. Let it remain on until the pain and temperature are reduced, or the temperature near to normal. Of course, it would necessarily be changed if it were on for two to three days. But make it pretty thick. Apply both over the front and back of the lung area, but more - of course - over the left lobe; yet over both.

11. We would keep the body very quiet.

12. We would begin by giving a little Ventriculin (without iron) every day; about half a teaspoonful or as much as the body will assimilate.

13. Give all the cool, fresh milk that may be taken. Be sure that it is from tested kine or cows, however.

14. Also we would give the fumes from Apple Brandy. These for this body will be more preferable from the Brandy poured in very hot or boiling water and this steamed so that the body may inhale the fumes; rather than inhaling the fumes from other ways or manners.

15. As soon as the strength is built up, remove to a high, dry, sunshiny climate - as that in Arizona, which is the preferable as we would find.

16. Keep then in the open as much as possible, “roughing it”, so that the resistances are builded.

17. Keep vegetables as a greater part of the diet. Let the meats consist of fowl, fish and lamb but not others; though beef juices or liver extracts may be taken as a part of medications.

18. Also the Halibut Oil with the Viosterol would be preferable, once, twice each day - but this not until the body is sufficiently improved to be in the open for recuperative forces.

19. In the present then, make the diet beef juices - but not broths - and easily assimilated foods; as whole wheat as a cereal (crushed); the Ventriculin - not with iron in the present, though this would be changed again when in the open.

20. Keep the body quiet and use the inhalations as given. Ready for questions.

R1. 2/16/37 Letter from [259] to EC: ”…Just a line to thank you for yours of the 10th. I needed it and you are the best person I know that I can accept it from.

“That bottom has dropped from my playhouse. The X-rays show spots and Paul Grist is trying to arrange things so that [1324] can receive treatment at the Jewish sanitarium in Denver - more later…”

R2. 2/22/37 EC’s letter to [259]:

Dear [259]:

Thanks for yours of 16th, feel that I can appreciate your feelings for know full well what it means to be so distressed about something that seems all wrong in the first place, and should never have happened in the next place, especially to one who is trying to make the best of things. But that seems to be life, and it is the disappointments, the sorrows, the crosses we have to bear, that makes the real show in we poor mortals; the flesh is weak but in HIM we can and do find strength.

Am sure Mr. Grist is doing what he feels best, but from the information it is not the best place, for we have had through the years many cases of that kind, and while the suggestion has been here and there, have never seen a case improve unless sent to the climate indicated and have had a case from […, Ala.] sent to Denver when the suggestion for him was to El Paso, and he did not improve until he went there and have just recently heard from him and he is doing well, Mr. [4874].

Another from here [?], information said Arizona, they sent him to El Paso didn’t do so well, then went to Arizona, and has just recently come back here and taken up his work. Do insist that they send him to Arizona; you know I haven’t any axe to grind, and am only telling you from actual experience; don’t let them send him to Denver. Know the place only too well.

Had a young man here, they insisted he must be sent to the Jewish hospital in Denver. Have a most excellent connection, and might help you arrange for him there but would not do it were I in your place. Had to send and get this man from there about two years ago; sent him to Arizona, doing very well now.

Know [259], if can help at any time, just let me know, only too glad to help if I can.

Hoping for the best, and Know while you may have a hard row to hoe you have a Helper, that never fails, will you do His way.

R3. 3/29/37 Reply to Questionnaire by Miss [259]:

(1) In your opinion did the analysis of the Reading cover the condition? partially

(2) Give symptoms of condition described correctly? Temperature - aching in structural portions lungs involved in condition -

(3) What was the physician’s analysis of this condition? Through X-ray examination mottled condition found in both lungs with cavity in upper right lung.

(4) Have the suggestions given in the Reading been followed exactly as outlined? Yes - except moving to dry climate.

(5) For how long? Until new condition (flu) developed about one month

(6) Describe the extent to which improvements have resulted? Not as much heavy coughing - less temperature - improved color.

(7) Comment. Patient under MD’s orders at present. Going to Sanitarium in Los Angeles in near future.

R4. 1/29/38 Miss [259]‘s letter: “[1324] continues critically ill - the left lung is inflated, and he is unable to write. The nurse drops me a line occasionally.”

R5. 2/2/38 EC’s letter: “Hope [1324] comes along OK. Is a hard thing when they have to inflate the lung - so much danger of infection in the pleura, and that is worse than the disease itself, or is my experience with such. Weakens one so very much.”

R6. 3/38 He died, in a T.B. hospital in Calif.

R7. 4/10/80 Mrs. [259] in writing GD giving a report on readings for herself and members of her immediate family, after all these years, added this - in re her old boy friend of her ‘teen years:

“Would you want to know about how [1324] rejected the reading’s suggestions and died in a TB hospital in California?”

B1. 12/12/36 Miss [259] wrote EC about how much in love she was with young Mr. [1324], though her mother, Mrs. [2457], greatly disapproved. [[1324] was Hebrew and Miss [259] Protestant.]

B2. 1/20/37 Letter from [259] to EC: ”[…]‘s [1324] sick. He is very thin anyway and now he’s got a bad cough and everybody is trying to say he has T.B. Two weeks ago Dr. Fuelner said he didn’t have any specific disease, but he did need building up. Today Dr. Mosely said that there was a congestion, but he would be afraid to say what kind. The reason for the two doctors is that [1324] has been going to Fuelner, [C. D. Fuelner, M.D.], but since he’s been in bed (since Sat. Jan. 16) his mother called in Mosely [Moseley].

“Now to settle everything for me, will you make that reading a physical one for him? He’ll be at … St., … all day Monday, 25th. It’s been so long since I applied for a physical reading I hardly know what to tell you, but the above is enough, isn’t it? Am enclosing some questions and a note from [1324].”
