This psychic reading given by Edgar Cayce at his home on Arctic Crescent, Virginia Beach, Va., this 5th day of February, 1937, in accordance with request made by the father - Mr. [440], Active Member of the Ass”n for Research & Enlightenment, Inc.

1. EC: Yes, we have the records here of that entity now known as or called [1332].

2. In giving the interpretation of that as we find recorded here, it would be well that those who are responsible for this entity and its training and development realize the possibilities, the probabilities, and their obligations.

3. For the entity’s sojourn in this experience depends much upon the training and the urges that are set before the entity in both precept and example, as to what the entity will do in this experience towards its own soul development.

4. There will be little possibility of the entity not making an unusual financial success in this experience. But if this is prompted and used as a means for self-indulgence, what matters that the whole world be gained and to lose the own soul?

5. Hence this depends upon the manner in which expressions are given during the developing years, as to what are ideals and what should be that as prompts the entity in its reaction to things mental as well as things material, as well as individuals.

6. It will be seen, as we find from the records here, that varied experiences of the entity in its developments through the cycle of its experience will be altered by the variation in the cycles of development; and that as may be given in the present as having the greater influence will during its seventh to fourteenth or fifteenth year be changed - as when it is twenty-one and twenty-eight; and THEN it will be determined as to whether it is to be the material or the mental and spiritual success to which this entity may make for its experiences in the present sojourn.

7. Those in references to law and order will be portions of the entity’s training for a counsellor to many, with an artistic temperament - these will be the experiences of the entity.

8. And it is very probable that a very early marriage or association with the opposite sex will change its whole experience during this sojourn, unless ideals are set for the entity - as has been indicated - and unless there may be the training and the developing, and the experiencing of the entity that the powers, the forces of a real experience, of a real development, lie within self.

9. Hence to analyze self and to take stock of self should be a part of the entity’s training even in its early years.

10. Let the entity know why and the wherefore, and seek to know of the entity WHY. For the entity will ask many questions that will be hard to answer unless there be the trainings to turn within.

11. As to those appearances that will make for the greater influence in the experience during the first fourteen years of the experience, then, we find:

12. Before this the entity was known by the name Mercer, a general in or during the Revolution; an alien, yes - but one put in authority by the first commander-in-chief. And there was the strategy, the determination upon the part of the entity as Mercer to make for a stroke during those periods when the patriots of that period - when their fires of patriotism had burned low. That as executed and given in history as an exploit of the leader was planned by this entity.

13. Hence we will find the entity very determined and subtle in its ways and manners of having its own way; and seeking not so much of itself but - as naturally a leader - to make for the carrying on of that set by the entity to be a portion of the experience.

14. And the entity will be capable of carrying out - and will carry out - many of the programs that may be only a part of the entity’s own thinking. Hence the necessity of directing, the necessity of guiding the mental forces in a creative development rather than in that which is of self-glory or self-indulgence of self-gratification in the experiences.

15. Before that (among those that will become a portion of the entity’s experience) we find the entity was in the Roman period when there were the wars, when there was especially the overthrowing and the bringing of those of the Promised Land, of northern Egypt and portions of the Grecian land, under the rule of the Roman peoples.

16. The entity then was among those of the counsellors, in the name Gerlius. In the experience the entity counseled for peace to those who were made to become a part of the Roman rule that they might be used as influences for good, or as to become not a liability but an asset to the empire.

17. These counselings were oft overruled, for many were the exploits for the indulgences. But during those periods of Claudius the entity made such overtures that there was that peace enjoyed in Greece during the period, as well as in Palestine, and the settlings of the strifes in Alexandria and in the isles of the Mediterranean as called now.

18. Hence as a counsellor, as a statesman in the INNER workings of same, may be a portion of the entity’s experience; yet the beauties of nature are a part also. And if these are guided aright they may make for many a saving grace, a saving experience for the entity during this sojourn - if they are not weakened by the influence of the fair sex that becomes more of indulgences for the entity than for thoughts of the peoples of a state or nation as a whole.

19. Before that we find the entity was in the Grecian land, and among those peoples who came to the ‘city in the hills and the plains’ for the overthrowing of that land, for the exploration of same.

20. The entity joined with those who destroyed much of the spiritual and mental activities of those peoples during that activity. Yet in the latter portion of the entity’s sojourn, as Lededeo, it made for a saving of much of that as caused the separations of those peoples during that experience.

21. During that experience the entity lost and gained.

22. Before that we find the entity was in the Atlantean land (the period influencing the most in the present, even more than the period just preceding the present sojourn), the sojourn that becomes the greater active as the mental and the physical and the spiritual are made to coordinate in the experiences in this sojourn.

23. For there the entity joined with those in using the influences that made for destructive forces, in the use of those things for the directing in transportation, the directing in communications.

24. Hence in these there are the greater necessities for the training and the setting for a purposefulness in the developing periods of the entity’s present sojourn.

25. Then the name was Eldedudo.

26. As to the abilities of the entity in the present, and that to which it may attain and how:

27. First these depend upon the manners in which there is the directing, by precept and example - and as to the purposefulness that becomes a part of the entity’s experience.

28. Then in the application of those abilities that are innate, that are natural forces of the soul and mental force of the entity - these applied in directing, in counseling the ways of many that will seek the entity for counsel, may make for the channels, the means, the ways for the greater mental and soul development for this entity during this sojourn.

29. Let, then, the counsel be that the promptings of the activities of the physical through the mental be not merely idealistic but constructive and creative in their import.

30. We are through for the present.

R1. After GC had given the first suggestion for EC to wake up [from 1332-1], he added - “It’ll be of interest to note that if the entity is allowed its own way to choose, it will choose Princeton as a school.”

R2. 2/15/37 Letter from [440] to EC: ”…Many thanks for [1332]‘s reading. For some reason it looks as though you had some difficulty in getting much information about him. The reading sort of passed the buck to his parents saying that if he had the right environment he would be the right sort of a fellow, otherwise not. Well, here’s hoping we can give it to him. I do appreciate your getting it for us and hope that the few facts which you were able to uncover from his past may prove helpful in understanding him. One thing we have noticed about him already is his love for music. He used to kick in rhythm before he was born and will listen intently for hours now to someone playing the piano. I was surprised to find no mention of an incarnation as a musician. Perhaps, however, this early love of music will assume other forms as he matures.

“How do you interpret the reading? He evidently has never been someone of fame or remarkable accomplishments. Just a good ordinary citizen but perhaps that will make the best stuff out of which to build a giant for the new generation. Being a father, and as yet not proved wrong, you see I have high hopes…”

R3. 2/22/37 Letter from EC to [440]: ”…Thanks for yours of the 15th. Most of the early readings always pass most of the information to the parents, with a great many tendencies as are shown in [1332]‘s reading. When he has begun to make headway in the application of his own will - say 11 or 12 - then another might take him on from there, and find some more experiences that may be having an influence at that time. That has been the experience thus far.

“I don’t think it is necessary that he be named in man’s history for him to have been of importance, but the fact that there are definite tendencies now for special work this time is very evident that he has done noble and fine work for this business of living is just a continuous thing.

“I thought the reading good, and am sure he will make his mark in this experience. But as yourself, you have the good and the bad before you, and have to make a choice. Sure would like to meet the young man, and hope to some of these days…”

R4. 3/12/37 Letter from EC to [440]: ”…How is the boy [1332]? by the way, was looking over his life reading again. Did you look up that appearance as Mercer? He must have been the brains then of the Continental Army, and that seems a great deal to me - and is set, I believe, is why if left to himself would Princeton; for it was evidently (if information is to be accredited) that he planned the battle executed by Washington, and for which it seems Washington received the credit when it was really Mercer’s ideas…”

R5. 7/31/68 He [1332] visited A.R.E. with his wife and little boy, asked for his Case Number so he could look up his reading in the A.R.E. Library. Also he wanted to read is father [440]‘s readings. I asked him to write out a report on his reading after he has studied it. GD.

B1. 5/3/36 Father [440]‘s letter to EC: ”…You may be interested to learn that I have married a red headed beauty [1244]. I wonder sometimes if she is the one of whom you dreamed in Arizona coming along on a horse while while I was lecturing on psychic phenomena. Do you remember? Will you give her a life reading for me? She is at the address on the letter-head almost all day except to shop. As she is to have a baby [1332] in several months, we would like to know if it is to be a boy or a girl, also if she should have normal delivery or a Caesarean. This would mean that if you could find time we would like a life reading for [1244], also a health reading and a third reading for the baby. I shall try to scrape together some money to pay you but things are a little different in that respect than they used to be so that I have to ask you as a friend to do this for me…”

B2. 8/6/36 (After several delays) A Life Reading was given for Mrs. [1244].

B3. 8/7/36 Letter from EC to [440]: ”…Well, hope everything is going nicely for you. Guess you both have been and are rather anxious. Let me hear from you when you have the chance, and say - how about my making a contribution to you both of a life reading for the new member of the family [1332]. Let me know if you would like and send me the proper dope and will at least have a try. Certainly should be a very important personage, and of course it must be a boy. […] the III?…”

B4. 9/14/36 Letter from [440] to EC: ”…You are probably wondering where on the earth the [440] Jrs. have disappeared to, but as you probably know the few weeks prior to the arrival of a baby are packed full of responsibilities for the husband as the wife slowly but surely has to relax and that the few weeks following are packed with excitement. Perhaps, therefore, you will forgive me for my very slow response to your most generous Life Reading for Mrs. [1244] when I tell you that [1332] III was born on August 31, 1936 at 1:40 P.M. in the Wyman House, Cambridge Hospital, Cambridge, Mass. The birth was normal and both the baby and Mother are doing splendidly. The baby weighed 7 pounds 6.5 ounces at birth and is just about back to that weight again after losing nearly a pound. Your kind offer to give him a life reading would be more than appreciated by both Mrs. [1244] and me…”

B5. 10/5/36 EC wrote about sending Mr. [440]‘s business reading on 9/25/36 (440-21) and that he would soon try to get the Life Rdg. for [1332].
