This Psychic Reading given by Edgar Cayce at his home on Arctic Crescent, Virginia Beach, Va., this 20th day of March, 1937, in accordance with request made by the self through Mr. [437], Active Member of the Ass”n for Research & Enlightenment, Inc.
[Edgar Cayce; Gertrude Cayce, Conductor; Gladys Davis, Steno.]
Time of Reading Flat #52, … St., 11:10 to 11:25 P.M. Eastern Standard Time. … S.W., England. (Physical Suggestion)
-
EC: Yes, we have the body here, [1351]. [EC in undertone: “Good hand!” Left out of original to Mr. [1351] but inserted in Mr. [437]‘s copy.]
-
As we find, there are disturbing forces, and these have arisen from conditions that have existed in the physical functioning of the body.
-
The body has had the experience where there was (in times back) considerable internal fever, and this affected the lymph circulation to a great extent; creating in the superficial portion of same the effect (in many ways) of scar tissue, or the lack of the proper coordination between the superficial and the deeper circulation.
-
Then the conditions in the present:
-
In the attempts of the body to adjust itself to the varying condition (and effect) in the circulatory forces and in the nervous system, there has been an unbalancing in the activities of organs and glandular forces as produce these activities for the body.
-
Hence we have those effects of these through a disorder in the digestive system as well as a characterization of nervous reactions to the headaches, nervous disability, or the lack of the vitality without a great strain upon the body.
-
These at times - the disturbances in the digestive force - become rather in the form not of ulcerations but some tendencies for a SMOOTHING of the folds in a portion of the digestive area, in the pylorus and through the duodenum, until there is a great distress; and then a reflex to the activities of the liver and necessarily an excess for an activity of the kidneys themselves.
-
These as we find then are conditions to be considered.
-
As we would find then, in making applications that would be the most beneficial to the body, to be sure the effect of the activity upon the functioning of the organs as well as that condition which has been produced in the incoordination between the circulatory forces - or the superficial and the deeper circulation - must be taken into consideration.
-
Hence:
-
About once or twice a week we would have Fume Baths. Especially would these be well using same from a weakened Atomidine solution. This does not mean heating the body too much in the electric cabinet or the like, but rather in the manner that the body is at a little above normal temperature and the fumes from a sixty percent Atomidine solution rise over the body; that is, sixty parts of the Atomidine to forty parts of water. Let this be as a Fume Bath over the whole body, with a thorough rubdown and a general massage afterward.
-
This will not only make for a stimulation (if properly given) to all of the centers along the cerebrospinal system, clearing the tendency for the filling in the soft tissue of face and head, and those tendencies for the body to ache at times from the very contraction, but the ability to resist cold, the ability to throw off such activities.
-
Also we would take internally small quantities of Milk of Bismuth and Elixir of Lactated Pepsin; a teaspoonful of the Bismuth and six drops of the Pepsin stirred in a full glass of water. This dosage would be taken about - Well, for three days take it once a day; then skip three days and take it again.
-
It is necessary, to be sure, to keep up the eliminations when these poisons are being absorbed throughout the intestinal system, by the activities of the properties taken.
-
Hence when the rubs are taken, well that there be enemas also; that we may cleanse the whole of the alimentary canal.
-
Do these and as we find many of those conditions that have been minor, yet are effective in causing disturbance, will also be relieved, for [1351].
-
Do that.
-
Ready for questions.
-
(Q) How often should the Fume Baths and massage be given? (A) As indicated, the massage shall be following the Fume Baths. This would be such as the Swedish massage or adjustments and a thorough rubdown - salt rum and alcohol following. Of course, there should be included the massage along the centers of the spine, the head, and extend even to the extremities - in the adjusting of the feet and the muscular forces; about twice a week for three to four weeks, rest from same and then begin again.
In the matter of the diets:
Keep rather to those foods of an alkalin-reacting nature rather than acid-producing. Do not have cereals even on the same day with citrus fruits.
We will find that we may bring the near normal condition for this body.
The use of the Radio-Active Appliance will be most helpful in making for the better abilities to rest. This would be applied each day for an hour, for periods of three to four weeks, rest from same a week and then take again. It will produce better equalization through the circulatory forces of the body.
When the Radio-Active Appliance is used, let such periods be used as periods for meditation; that is, see and know self as a portion of CONSTRUCTIVE FORCES - not self-indulgences, self-aggrandizements, but that the creative or spiritual forces of divinity within self are - mentally, physically - CONSTRUCTIVE in all that the body does and says!
- We are through, for the present.

Reports & Follow-up
R1. 4/14/37 Mr. [1351] wrote thank you letter sending check.
R2. 6/9/37 Hugh Lynn Cayce reported after a trip to N.Y.: “Mr. [437] told Mr. [257] in my presence of the confirmation of that statement at the beginning of Mr. [1351]‘s rdg. Remember that comment, ‘Good hand!’ which you asked GD to leave out of original, not knowing whether or not it had any pertinence to the reading?
“Well, Mr. [437] says he was playing Bridge with Mr. [1351] at the time of the reading, and that Mr. [1351] was winning!”
R3. 9/30/37 Mr. [437]‘s son [949]‘s letter: “Mr. [1351]‘s reading was very satisfactory. He was very pleased and seems to have been relieved, although with the climate in England I don’t see how anybody manages to keep healthy.”
R4. 8/8/70 Mr. [437]‘s letter to Hugh Lynn Cayce: “I was surprised and delighted when I happened to catch the last half of the David Frost show last night. I want to compliment you upon your performance. I thought that everything as far as you were concerned was perfect, your diction, appearance and stage presence. Alan Lerner didn’t have a word to say during the last part of the show that I saw.
“Your reference to the reading in London rang a bell with me as I believe that was a reading that I asked for and arranged. If I am correct the principal involved was a [1351], an old friend of my Brother […]. He was a Stage Director, and a very good one at that, for David Belasco who has gone down in history as one of America’s greatest. Brother […]‘s son, […], was named after [1351].
“Will you please see if the reading was for [1351] and if so I would like to have a copy of it. I wouldn’t mind dropping Frost a note because I remember it all so clearly.”
R5. 9/14/70 Mr. [437]‘s letter to David Frost:
Dear Mr. Frost:
I saw your Program during the Month of August in which Hugh Lynn Cayce participated.
I have particular reference to where Hugh Lynn talked about a Reading that Edgar Cayce [gave] from his home in Virginia Beach, U.S.A. while the individual for whom the Reading was given was in London, England. I was in London at the time and met a friend of mine, a well known stage Director by the name of [1351]. He was associated with David Belasco who at that time was one of the best known New York Stage Producers in the Country.
[1351] was suffering from a stomach ailment from which he seemed to be unable to get relief. I suggested a reading from Edgar Cayce whom I had met in the early 30’s and with whom I had seen - and experienced - some remarkable readings. [1351] agreed. Arrangements were made for the Reading by Cable. Date March 20th, 1937. We met at the Savoy in London and had arranged a Bridge Game while waiting for the appointed time. When we received the Copy of the Reading it read at the opening (“in undertone ‘Good Hand’”) and went on to describe [1351]‘s Physical condition and what to do about it.
One can question the credibility of a story of this nature and my purpose in writing to you is to attest that it is truly and very well documented. I have a copy of the reading and will be happy to send it to you if you are interested in seeing it.
I and my Family have known Leland Hayward for a good many years but I haven’t seen him in recent years. I am sure he will remember me. I know he was identified with you when you did JWW.
Kindest Regards, [437]
