[Edgar Cayce; Gertrude Cayce, Conductor; Gladys Davis, Steno.]
Time of Reading 3:40 to 4:00 P. M. Eastern Standard Time. …, Nebraska. (Physical Suggestion)
-
EC: Yes, we have the body here, [1363].
-
Now as we find, the causes of the disturbing conditions in the present are from a complex condition.
-
Hence as has been indicated by the developments thus far, there is a point or a cause of infectious forces; but the manner in which the activities have been to the locomotary system, to the various portions where soft tissue is affected or where pockets may form from pressure of poisons, shows that it is a movable condition. However, in the present the greater point of infection is through the areas in the right portion of the body where tissue has been affected by injections that were given as a preventative, that caused tissue to become involved and to form in the lymph and the capillary circulation what is termed scar tissue.
-
The effect in the present is more in the caecum, and the locomotary center in the lower limbs.
-
This as we find then is not myelitis nor transverse myelitis, but rather an infectious force.
-
So we find that the condition may gradually be overcome by a consistent and persistent application; that is, not letting up on the elements and influences that may eliminate the causes of the disturbance when the body is better, or not breaking over in the diet, but keeping to that which is constructive not only in the physical application but in the mental and the spiritual as well.
-
For the Mind is the Builder. However, we have had here a source that has produced at times pressures to such an extent as to impair the proper mental reaction or impulse upon the whole of the nervous system, both the cerebrospinal and the sympathetic; and has affected the sensory nervous system at times, too - as has been shown in the effect to the throat, the eyes, the head, and to the activities of the body itself.
-
Then to be rid, or to get rid of the excess poisons that are existent in the system and still not so deplete the body as to cause inability of activity, is the course that must be as we find pursued for the betterment of the conditions of the body.
-
First, then, we would begin - and these, the whole of this, may be applied at home; and the more the application is with that attitude of loving, purposeful, needful conditions, the better may be the result for all concerned.
-
Begin first with Castor Oil Packs. These should encircle the body from just below the rib to the upper portion of the hip. Not only would these be applied in front but in the back. It is better to have two or three folds of flannel. Use flannel, preferably, but sufficient in length and in breadth to encircle the body and to be over the area from just below the ribs, so it covers a portion of the liver and the spleen, the abdomen and the smaller portions of the back. Apply these at least twice every evening for three days; that is, change the packs at least twice during the evening. Put them on just as hot as the body can stand; not to burn the body, no, but so that the flannel is dipped in the Castor Oil and wrung out, then wrapped about the body. Let the body rest, of course, and when one Pack is cool, apply again. Do this for three days, or three evenings. When the Pack is removed, sponge off the body with a little soda water; that is, about a teaspoonful of baking soda in a quart of water - this would be sufficient with which to sponge off the body.
-
After these have been applied for three days, leave off. Then the next day, half an hour after the morning meal take ONE Zilatone tablet. Half an hour after the noon meal take another Zilatone tablet. Half an hour after the evening meal take TWO Zilatone tablets.
-
Then the next morning, if there is not the complete activity - or even before it begins to act upon the alimentary canal - take an enema; not of hot water or cold water but water the temperature of the body. Use a Fountain Syringe. Do not in the beginning use a colon tube, but just the rectal tube - sufficient to cleanse, if this is to be taken, the lower portion of the colon area itself.
-
The next day, then, rest from either of these applications.
-
Begin the next day, then, with the Oil Packs again. Take again for three days, just as has been given.
-
After that three-day period, begin with taking a level tablespoonful of Eno Salts every morning before any meal is taken. Keep this up for a week.
-
Let three to four days elapse between the periods that the Oil Packs are given.
-
Continue this whole routine as indicated for at least thirty days.
-
Then we would begin with the low electrical vibrations from the Wet Cell Appliance that carries Gold into the body, in the proportions of two grains to an ounce of distilled water. The attachments are to be made as follows:
-
The small plate would be attached first, to the lumbar axis or the last lumbar; while the larger plate, passing through the Gold Solution, would be attached last - to the umbilicus and lacteal duct center.
-
This application would only be begun, you see, after the other treatments are kept for thirty days as suggested; but when begun, make the attachments EVERY day for at least thirty minutes - preferably in the afternoon.
-
Change the solutions, you see, every thirty days.
-
After the course of Zilatone, and the first period of the Eno Salts, begin by taking the enzymes with the Iron (Ventriculin - with Iron) - that we may build, with that application for the digestive forces, more of the blood supply that has resistances in same, see? Take a teaspoonful of this (the Ventriculin) every afternoon, three or four o’clock in the afternoon, as it is necessary for the stimulations, as it is necessary for the digestive forces.
-
In the matter of the diet, and in the matter of the rubs for the body:
-
Use Pure Olive Oil as a rub, which would be given each evening - this beginning, of course, after the second or third period of the Castor Oil Packs, and do not give same on the days the Castor Oil Packs are given but in the rest periods from the Castor Oil Packs. Massage the cerebrospinal system, beginning in the central portion of the back, massage thoroughly, down each side of the spine, especially over the lumbar area, especially massaging the abdominal area, over the liver, the gall duct, the caecum; and massage all the body will absorb. Sponge off the excess with a DRY cloth, not with water. The excess Castor Oil may be removed with the soda water, as indicated, but use a DRY cloth when wiping off the Olive Oil. Massage in a circular motion on the spine up and down; that is, from the central portion upward - and be sure it extends out to the arms, be sure it extends around the limbs and to the feet, especially the bursa of the feet, the heels, under the heel and around the instep and toes. This massage should be given thoroughly about three times each week, or the three days that the Castor Oil Packs are not taken - or during the rest period from same; after the second period.
-
In the diet, keep those foods that are body and blood and nerve building. Hence, there should not be taken excesses of starches nor excesses of certain characters of heats; for the food values should work with the enzymes that are taken and with the activities of the properties taken internally. Use, then, not white bread but preferably the whole wheat, rye or the like. Corn bread may be used if desired. The meats should consist of fowl, fish or lamb. The vegetables - beans, lentils, carrots, beets, onions, all of such; preferably as fresh as may be had.
-
Do these, and then when sixty to ninety days have passed, we would give further instructions.
-
These will bring help, these will make for changes.
-
In the mental attitudes, let there be constructive thinking - or, in the periods when the Wet Cell Appliance is taken, let the prayer or the meditation be, during each thirty minute application:
-
“I AM THINE, LORD! IN THE LOVE THOU HAST SHOWN THROUGH THE CHRIST, BRING TO THIS BODY OF MINE THAT THOU SEEST, THAT THOU KNOWEST IS BEST; THAT I MAY BE THE MORE PERFECT MANIFESTATION OF THY LOVE AMONG THE CHILDREN OF MEN!
“USE MY LIFE, USE MY PURPOSES, USE MY AIMS AND DESIRES, IN SUCH WAYS THAT THEY MAY BE TO THE GLORY OF THE FATHER IN THE SON, CHRIST THE LORD!”
- We are through for the present.

Reports & Follow-up
R1. 6/15/37 Letter from [1363]‘s wife to EC: ”…Have been following instructions for his treatment closely…
“On May 28 [1363] had a rather severe heart attack and has since been unable to work. He has been taking the Wet Cell treatments since the 8th of June and he would like to know if he could take the Wet Cell treatments oftener than once a day and for longer periods than the 30 minutes specified in his reading…
“We realize that we can hardly expect to see much improvement in his condition so soon, but would like to know if it is possible that the castor oil packs as I have been applying them might be too much for him to stand…”
R2. 6/19/37 Letter from EC to [1363]‘s wife: ”…Have been anxious to hear from [1363], for I feel that he will gain real relief from the treatments; but, of course, it will take a little time. Yes, certainly keep up the packs of the castor oil, and the way you have handled them is fine - also the rubs.
“Do not take the wet cell appliance longer than 30 minutes at a time and I don’t think it is well to take more than once day…
“I don’t think the castor oil packs are severe except for hot weather, and they would not affect the heart. I don’t think any of the treatment would, although the appliance might if kept on too long…
“In another three or four weeks I think we should have a check reading and see how he is coming along from the reading’s standpoint…”
R3. 7/24/37 Letter from [1363]‘s wife to EC: ”…I believe [1363] has been showing some improvement, although it is hardly noticeable to one who is with him all the time. He has not had a heart spell for the past three weeks. The day he received his first reading he was suffering from a severe sore throat followed in a few days with almost complete loss of feeling in the left side of the head and face and extending down to his left hand. That was the first time he had had a sore throat for several years. This has since almost disappeared. His bowel condition has improved, although it is not normal yet, but nearer so than for years. He doesn’t seem so nervous and sleeps and eats well. What seems to bother him more than anything at present is worry over the fact that he is unable to work since the severe heart attack he suffered on May 28. He is still extremely weak in his lower limbs and weather changes always affect him. Our questions follow: 1. Is there a permanent involvement of the motor nerves? 2. Is there any indications of hysteria? 3. Should he try to walk more for exercise, or is a complete rest more advisable for the time being? 4. Would regular Osteopathic treatments be of more benefit than the massages I give him at home? I know so little about the proper method. 5. Are the Wet Cell treatments for restoring the nerves to their normal functions? 6. How long would you advise him to wait before trying to return to work?…”

Background
Background
B1. 4/10/37 Letter from [1363] to [1293], Astrologer, who sent it to EC on 4/15/37 with request for a Physical Rdg. ”…Jan. 1, 1924, I became ill. Doctor diagnosed trouble as Sciatic Rheumatism. Steadily became worse and was soon completely paralyzed from waist down. Later diagnosis was that it was Transverse Myelitis. After several months, regained fair use of legs, though never fully recovered.
“In April, 1931, was bothered with numb sensation in right arm and right side of face, followed by loss of sight of right eye. Following sinus operation regained eyesight. Arm and face remained numb and nerves were in bad condition.
“Was admitted to the Veterans Hospital in Denver, Colorado, in 1931 for observation and treatment. Case diagnosed by them as Moderate Hysteria. During the next few years my condition showed slight improvement, or arrestment. It was necessary for me to give up my regular employment as telegraph operator and accept the position as Depot Agent in a small town. Since my right arm was practically useless I learned to use my left hand for writing and telegraphing.
“About three years ago again began losing ground and was again admitted to Veterans Hospital in September, 1936. Discharged after three weeks and told my condition was definitely worse but there was nothing to be done for me.
“I again consulted with my family doctor and he disagrees with the diagnosis of Hysteria, and still insists that the original diagnosis of Transverse Myelitis was correct. He thinks the motor nerves have been affected and are practically destroyed and that a wheel chair will soon be necessary.
“Isn’t it possible that they are all mistaken and each on the wrong track?…”
