This psychic reading given by Edgar Cayce at the Halcyon Hotel, Miami, Florida, this 22nd day of February, 1927, in accordance with request made by his brother, [900].

Time of Reading 10:00 P. M. Eastern Standard Time. New York City.

1. GC: You will give the physical condition of this body at the present time, giving the cause of the present condition, also suggestions for the relief and cure of these conditions. You will answer any questions I will ask you regarding same.

2. EC: Yes, we have the body here. This we have had before.

3. Now we find, with the physical conditions as are changed under the present forces, that there is the effect of an acute condition, produced by ulcerations in the gastrics or in the duodenum. This produces the condition throughout the system, with the congestion as is seen in the nerve system by taxation, and the system attempting to produce balance in same - and inflammation and congestion as has been caused in the upper portion of the nerve system; especially in throat and bronchials, with this condition and the reaction, temperature arising from same, as well as the tendency for inertia in the mental reaction - that is, tendencies for circulation to become centralized, or rushing of blood from one portion of body to another, see?

4. Now, to meet the needs of these conditions at present, we would use - as the condition for intestinal system, stomach, etc. - those properties as would be in small quantities of chalk, bismuth, and water, and follow same with limewater and elm water in small quantities - sips taken often to reduce the pressure and inflammation; and massage in the cerebrospinal system those properties in equal parts of olive oil and tincture of myrrh - heat the oil and pour myrrh in same, massaging this well into the spine; especially from the lower dorsal to the cervical, see? bathing off the head, face and neck with a solution of alcohol to reduce temperature and to increase circulation. Do that, see?

5. Then we would - after stomach is settled - refrain from taking foods until the body calls for same. Then in small quantities of whatever is easily digested, see?

6. Do this, and we will bring about the better conditions for the body, [137].

8. (Q) What brought about this condition or caused it? (A) Overtaxation, and the general debilitation through the digestive system. Hence the flow of the blood to the central portions of the body, and taking away from head, see? With inflammation already in head, the regurgitation or flowing back produces that of the congestion, see?

9. (Q) Should the limewater and elm water be taken at different times? (A) Be taken at different times - alternated, you see. Small quantities, see? that is, teaspoonful, or a sip at the time may be given every few minutes, until there is more ease in the body from pain or from nausea, or from any of the cramp conditions that appear at times through all portions of the digestive system, see?

10. (Q) How many doses of bismuth and chalk should be given? (A) These should be given at least two hours apart, and there may be as many as ten or twelve taken, see? so we cleanse the system. Massaging the oil and myrrh - these may be taken every two or three hours until there is more strength and the body is relieved from all of the stress in head and spinal system, see?

11. (Q) What caused the ulcers in the duodenum? (A) Taxation.

12. We are through for the present.

R3. 2/24/27 Brother [900]‘s letter: “[137] just can’t seem to get straightened out. He got sick, seemingly well and then sick again, and due to fainting spells, throat trouble, ear trouble, etc., we are always terribly frightened, and while my telegram may have seemed exaggerated, yet when I tell you he has 3 doctors you will see that we just don’t know how really sick he is, or whether he will take a day or a year to recover. If instead of all their local ear treatments or in addition they would locate the seat of the trouble as the reading does - i.e. the gastrics, blood, circulation and upper spinal column and treat these as one, as the reading tells, he ought recover quickly and easily instead of going through a lot of complicated rigmaroles with high priced doctors. I only hope and pray he will get well speedily in spite of the doctors - i.e. that nature itself will remedy that which the doctors are neglecting. [137] has a copy of the telegram you sent and whether conditions will permit him following I don’t know. It is a great satisfaction for all of us to know just what is wrong, for as I said, [137] manifests such radical changes that one doesn’t know if he is going to die the next minute or what. He didn’t have such a good night, but is some better this morning. It worries me, for it’s one thing when strangers won’t let you help them, but when one you love wants your help and then is blocked in ability to use that help by circumstances - i.e. at the risk of bringing conflict and dissension, then it strikes hard. However, [137] has the reading in copy and that is about all we can do. The rest is up to him and however sorry we are for his position between the devil and deep blue sea, I don’t see how I may help him out. R4. 3/2/27 Brother [900]‘s wire: “[137] improved for a while but now not doing so well. He asked for another rdg. this afternoon including the following questions: What may be done for the head condition? What may be done for the nose condition? What may be done for the ear condition? What may be done to aid in gaining strength and vitality? Would it be well to go away for a change of climate? When and where best? Wire answer after this is taken.”
