EC: (There’s an apple tree.)
-
Yes, we have the body, [1374].
-
Now, as we find, there are definite or specific conditions that have caused, do cause, disturbance with the physical functioning of the body - as related to the circulation.
-
This as we find produces a functional disturbance. While the system has gone about to correct some of the conditions, unless there is a proper regulation to the activity of those portions where injuries have acted in the system, we may have a constitutional disturbance that would later become very disturbing to the body.
-
These then are conditions as we find them with this body, [1374].
-
In times back there have been injuries to the body that have effected a pressure upon the system in such a manner as to deflect the flow of energies as related to the functioning organs.
-
These as we find (the injuries) were in the cervical and then in the lumbar AND in the bursa of the feet.
-
This combination of disturbances or pressures produced first an acute condition, wherein pressures upon the glandular forces in the lumbar area prevented the activity of the eliminations in the circulation as related to kidneys, or produced an excess of uric acid in the blood stream.
-
This combined with the hemorrhage in the circulation, opposite the 3rd cervical center, caused a taxation to first the sympathetic and then to the secondary cardiac plexus.
-
Hence this overflowing produces an acute condition to the respiratory and the pulmonary system; overflowing or overfilling the flow of the aorta artery.
-
Hence the smothering spells and the very bad disturbance to the skin, the kidneys; at times a heart producing activity in the liver and the secretions from same becoming disturbing or slow in activity.
-
Rest, time and care have aided; but as we find unless those pressures in the feet and in the lumbar are removed, and unless there can be sufficient stimulation to absorb much of the condition about the 3rd cervical center or plexus, we may have a constitutional condition as to so weaken the body to shorten the experience of the entity in this present activity.
-
As we would find, then, in making applications that would be the more helpful for the body:
-
First we would have the thorough adjustments osteopathically, such as may be made by Ober, in the feet, the lumbar, and (but not in the beginning) adjustments attempted gently in the cervical area; but these areas through the cervical would be massaged gently until the circulation is so increased by a balance through the corrections in the lumbar and through the bursa of the feet, and coordinated - of course - with those areas along the cerebrospinal system, especially in the solar plexus and the secondary cardiac, but not in the upper cervical, you see - gentle massage there.
-
These taken in periods as we find would be the better. From two to three weeks about twice or three times a week, and only ONE of these an ADJUSTMENT treatment - the other as a massage and a coordinating with using, to be sure, the muscular forces and the torso or structural portions as leverages to break up those tendencies for lesions in those places along the lumbar, in the feet, and coordinating in the 9th dorsal, upper dorsal, and later - after the third series - begin to make the adjustments in the cervical area. These in the cervical are to be gently massaged in the beginning. Take the treatments for two to three weeks, rest from same two weeks, then take for two to three weeks again, rest two weeks; then in the third series begin to make the adjustments in the cervical area - not until then.
-
In the diets, of course, keep these well balanced; also keep the eliminations normal - as will naturally be the direction from one making such adjustments. DO NOT make the adjustments in the cervical during the first period or second period! DO make adjustments in the feet, in the lumbar, in the 9th dorsal! In the third series make the adjustments in the cervical - 3rd cervical. Necessary, to be sure, to coordinate all of them during that period.
-
During the whole period, the rest period also, use the Radio-Active Appliance each evening for thirty minutes to an hour. Do not attach the cords to the Appliance for ten to fifteen minutes after it has been in the ice. Do not let the ice or water come over the top. Keep the plates very clean, the connections very secure.
-
Do these and we will find that before the summer is over the body will be near to normal again. We will find the eliminations will become normal, the activities of the liver will be corrected, and the heart disturbance that has existed owing to the flushing of the system or the filling of same will disappear.
-
Ready for questions.
-
(Q) Should I refrain from strenuous exercise, and take as much rest as possible? (A) This is very well, especially during the first two periods of the adjustments; but it can gradually begin activity more and more as the corrections are made.
-
(Q) The injury referred to - was it the hit on the nose by a base ball last year, or the high-jumping? (A) It is a combination rather of both. First there was a hemorrhage that caused an engorgement in those centers opposite or coordinant with the 3rd cervical, as will be found by the close examination; later the pressures upon the lumbar axis and in the feet caused a pressure in the area affecting the kidneys and the activity of the secretions from same.
This as combined with the circulation brought an acute condition.
- (Q) Am I able to attend summer school? (A) It will have to be in the latter portion of same, if at all. This will depend upon the activities and the thoroughness with which the administrations are made that have been indicated.
But if these are done properly - unless there are unforeseen conditions - they will bring normal forces for this body.
DO that.
- We are through for the present.

Reports & Follow-up
R1. 6/2/37 Mother’s letter: “The reading of [1374] was received with deep appreciation and many thanks. It was splendid, and one feels indeed you were inspired. It was thorough, in detail, and leaves me in no doubt what needs to be done for him now. I am here, and at this writing unable to leave. Am on the registry awaiting a case. Did very little work last month, so got behind in my expenses. Please tell Miss [307] I am very grateful for her kindness, and appreciated her very nice letter too. As things are now am tied hand and foot. When I come off my case shall run down for a day and bring [1374]. With thanks for the reading, gratefully…”
R2. 12/19/37 See 262-116, Par. 23-A Christmas message.
R3. 8/18/75 Mr. [1374] came to the office and requested a copy of his reading, which was duplicated for him. [GD’s note: He told me that he followed the reading and continued to improve, though he stayed away from athletics for several years - until he joined the Marines in World War II and knew that if he wasn’t cured he would soon know it, with all the activity, etc. He had no trouble whatever and has not had to this day. He has led a very active life. He is a teacher by profession, teaching English and social sciences; is also an actor with the […] Playhouse.]
Although he wasn’t present for his physical reading he remembers being present for 262-116, Par. 23-A which gave him a Christmas message, in December of the same year. He came with Miss Esther Wynne, Mrs. Helen Storey, his friend Harry W. Storey, and Helen Storey Wheeler and Marsden Godfrey (whom Helen W. later married) and Helen’s little boy Alvin Kirk Wheeler, Jr.
He asked for Dr. Vincent H. Ober’s address (since I told him he is still living and practising), as he thinks some more osteopathic treatments at this late date would be very helpful. I asked him about the apple tree mentioned in 1374-1, Par. 1: “Oh yes, there was an apple tree close to the house where I lived at the time of the reading! In fact, there were two, one a little farther away. They are still there, although I don’t live there any more.” Another clairvoyance of EC: Confirmed!
Background
Background
B1. 3/15/37 Mother’s letter: “May 30, 1936 he was taken suddenly ill, he had been high-jumping with some companions in the yard. Was taken to the nearest physician who pronounced his condition a heart attack, an athletic heart. Was ordered to bed. Then [1374] had pains in his joints, burning pain in his heart. I was then told he had rheumatic heart, with some bronchial trouble. My boy was in bed 4 months. The trip to Norfolk [where we heard about you through Miss [307] and young Mr. [361]] was the first of any amount of exercise he has taken… [before his accident] an athlete, and good at all kinds of sports… Never had an illness except a mild case of chicken pox. Was struck on the nose by a baseball last year, his nose bled profusely. He is not strong enough to attend school. The physician said rest was what he needed with very little exercise. [1374] continues the same as before. He is unable to walk but very short ways before he gets short winded and pulse rate is very fast.”
B2. 5/19/37 “Please find enclosed one dollar, a small contribution but a deeply sincere one.”
B3. 5/24/37 “He has been unable to attend school for one year. Should he take any special treatment for the rheumatic condition of his heart? We have not consulted a physician since Aug. 23rd. At that time [1374] was pronounced much better. But he must refrain from strenuous exercise, take as much rest as possible.”
