This psychic reading given by Edgar Cayce at his home on Arctic Crescent, Virginia Beach, Va., this 2nd day of August, 1937, in accordance with request made by the brother - Mr. [826] Active Member of the Ass”n for Research & Enlightenment, Inc.

Time of Reading Woods Hospital, 11:45 to 11:55 A.M. Eastern Standard Time. Bethany, Missouri. (Physical Suggestion)

1. EC: Yes.

2. Now as we find, while the conditions are rather serious, these may be materially aided if the reactions are allowed through the system; that is, through the alimentary canal - not to become so checked by COLD as to prevent a circulation, see?

3. As we find, we would stimulate the activity along the cerebrospinal system for the activity through the area in the caecum and beginning of transverse colon. Stimulate osteopathically, then, the areas - gently, to be sure - in the upper dorsal areas more specific; gently, of course, coordinating the lumbar area, with gentle massage of the abdominal area. The stimulation to the cerebrospinal system should be for the caecum area and for the gall duct area.

4. Also we would use the the Grape Poultice, not hot but cold - or cool - across the stomach and especially the right side of the abdomen. As soon as the Poultice is warm from the body heat, remove and apply another. Keep these up, one right after the other, for at least eight or nine hours.

5. Between the application of the Poultices, we would massage across the abdomen with Grain Alcohol; not Rub Alcohol but Grain Alcohol, just what the body absorbs; not a punching, just a gentle massage.

6. These as we find will give an activity that will allow the influences of the irritation in the stomach and the duodenum to be allayed sufficient for the absorption, by absorption, as well as gastric flow for stimulation to strength.

7. Thus we might find help for this body.

8. Give only internally a combination prepared in this manner, to settle the stomach:

Cinnamon Water…1 ounce, Lime Water…1 ounce, 10% solution Iodide of Potassium…10 minims, 10% solution Bromide of Potassium…30 minims.

The dose may be given every hour; a teaspoonful in a tablespoonful of water; SIPPED, not gulped but sipped. This will settle the stomach.

9. (Q) What is causing the present illness? (A) An irritation in the stomach, duodenum, and the effect created in the lower portion of the jejunum.

10. We are through with this Reading.

R1. 8/3/37 Brother [816]‘s letter to EC:

Washington, D.C.

Dear Mr. Cayce:

The reading came through promptly, and was received this morning at 7:30. [826] left yesterday to see the Sister, and I am leaving today, and will be there Thursday morning.

Doctors have taken X’ray pictures and are urging an immediate operation, claiming that there are ulcers, etc., in the stomach, ptosis, etc. And we fear that an operation will be fatal. While she is normally a strong girl, she has been weakened by lack of nourishment, but was strong enough to write me a long letter, just received, and until a few days ago was going to and from the hospital for treatments.

The reading is very good about telling certain things to be done. But we were disappointed because the reading did not describe in detail what is the matter, if there are ulcers, if there is a tumor, if there is a cancer, or what. Consequently, we cannot say that the doctors have incorrectly diagnosed the case, and I presume that they will go ahead and operate (a major operation) later in the week, and probably kill her. I doubt if she is strong enough at the moment to withstand a major operation. The reading did not tell anything about the diet which should be followed, whether milk, fruit juice, baby food, or what. This leaves us rather at the mercy of the doctors.

B1. 7/31/37 Phone request by Mr. [826], emergency Rdg. for sister - what information is needed - she is in hospital in little town in Missouri; doctors say she is in a very critical condition. “If anything is offered in Rdg. I’ll go down there and have it carried out. I’ll get the necessary information and call you back - when can you get it? Well, I’ll phone you in time for appt. Monday morning.”

8/2/37 Phoned Monday morning: “Name and address as below. She lives in a little place of about three thousand people - her home is about three miles from …, Mo. A week ago last Thursday she was taken to the hospital; hasn’t been able to eat anything - I presume something is matter with her stomach.”

Mrs. [1419], in the Woods Hospital, Bethany, Mo.
