This psychic reading given by Edgar Cayce at his home on Arctic Crescent, Virginia Beach, Va., this 2nd day of September, 1937, in accordance with request made by the wife […], new Active Member of the Ass”n for Research & Enlightenment, Inc., recommended by Dr. Ernest P. Phillips [D.C.].
[Edgar Cayce, Gertrude Cayce, Conductor; Gladys Davis, Steno.]
11:00 to 11:15 A. M. Eastern Standard Time. …, N.Y. (Physical Suggestion)
-
EC: Yes, we have the body here, Mr. [1428].
-
Now, as we find, there are disturbing conditions that prevent the normal activity of the mental and the coordination of same with the physical forces of the body.
-
Also those surroundings, the environs, those activities have brought about much of that which is a relative condition.
-
As we find, in administering for the help of this body, this may not be done without gaining first the confidence and getting or having the wholehearted cooperation of the body physically and mentally.
-
For the natural reaction is to be antagonistic. This is the very nature of the disturbances.
-
As we would find, this may be best accomplished through one Phillips, or the chiropractic doctor that is acquainted somewhat with the conditions not only in the home but as to what have been the reactions in the body - or the nature of same.
-
These as we find, then, are the PHYSICAL disturbances with the body, Mr. [1428]:
-
In the bodily functions there have been those effects of activities to allay an infection that acted upon the organs of the body as related to the higher or the more emotional nervous systems and forces of the body through the genitive system.
-
These with pressures, while the conditions have been allayed or eliminated, pressures left in the coccyx, the lumbar and lower dorsal area, continue to make for the effect of these highly active forces upon the system.
-
These are from the serums and the medicines taken, rather than the dis-ease or disturbance itself.
-
This, then, is not a true dementia praecox condition. While there is incoordination between the cerebrospinal and the sympathetic nervous system, this arises rather from the conditions that have been indicated.
-
So, we would give that there be made the perfect alignment of the body through the administration of mechanical means for the relieving of the pressures in the system.
-
Also we would add the vibratory forces of the Wet Cell Appliance that would clarify or purify the activity of the glandular system; and through these low electrical vibrations we would carry the vibrations from Chloride of Gold (the proportions one grain to one ounce of distilled water).
-
These vibrations would be added BY the physician making the adjustments, and these done at least five days of every week for thirty minutes with the Wet Cell Appliance, as well as making the adjustments, the alignments to the system.
-
The attachments of the Appliance would be: The small anode would be attached first, one day to the 9th dorsal center, the next day to the 4th lumbar center; but each time the larger anode or plate (carrying the Gold Solution) would be attached last, over the umbilicus and lacteal duct center, or just about four fingers from the umbilicus plexus toward the right side direct; for thirty minutes five days each week. Apply direct to skin.
-
This would be done for at least thirty days. Then a rest period of two to three weeks, then AGAIN these applied.
-
And we will find, in this manner, we may bring the better conditions for this body.
-
Ready for questions.
-
(Q) Should the advice of any of the previous physicians be followed? (A) As we find, rather these suggestions that have been made here. First, gain the confidence - that is, let Phillips gain the confidence, let him make the applications, let him do the conversation.
And let all the activity, the talk, the conversation at each period of treatment be made constructive. And do not take just a little period in making the treatments, but make the massage and the adjustments at each period - and then take thirty minutes after same for the application of the Appliance; and THEN a gentle massage over the lumbar, the sacral, through the abdominal area, AFTER the low electrical vibrations have been had. Make adjustments and massage before, and after the Appliance has been used then give a gentle massage over the abdominal area, especially the caecum and the lacteal ducts and the abdomen, right and left side, that there may be the proper stimulation to the glandular forces of the body.
-
(Q) What should the wife’s attitude and actions be in order to help him? (A) That of a constructive and, most of all, PRAYERFUL attitude. Constructive, creative; not antagonistic, not constantly arguing about - but sympathetic.
-
(Q) Would he be benefited by weekly visits to Dr. Stewart of the Meadowbrook Hospital? (A) As we find if these are applied in the manner indicated, it will be better than hospitalization, better than weekly visits; for these are influences and forces brought about in the OWN seeking to be relieved, see?
-
We are through for the present.

Reports & Follow-up
R1. 9/3/37 EC wrote Mr. [1428]‘s wife: “Hope the information is of interest; feel from same that, if you can get the cooperation of Dr. Phillips, and he can get the interest of Mr. [1428], there will be a real chance for him to snap out of this condition. Do hope for his sake, as well as yours, that this will be done. Have never met Dr. Phillips but he must be an excellent man, as he has been recommended several times in the readings.
“We will be anxious to hear from you, and you can assure Dr. Phillips he can have our whole-hearted cooperation if he wishes it, and we’ll be glad to try and be of help at any time.
“With all good wishes and hoping to have been of a service,”
Sincerely, Edgar Cayce
R2. 9/15/37 Mr. [1428] wrote Mr. Cayce:
“Dear Sir: Your letter to my wife has come to my attention. In view of the fact that the analysis you presented has been lost - and that I wish to ask Dr. Phillips for his assistance
- I should greatly appreciate your sending him a copy of the diagnosis you sent to my wife.
Any further ideas you may have as to my disabilities would be greatly appreciated.” Very truly yours, [1428]
R3. 9/17/37 EC’s letter to Mr. [1428]: “Just in receipt of yours of the 15th. Inasmuch as two copies of the information were sent to your wife, I thought that the other copy might be available; hope so anyway. If, however, this too has been misplaced, let me know. I assure you we are glad to try and be of help whenever possible. Please give the suggestions a try and let us hear from you. With all good wishes,”
Sincerely, Edgar Cayce
R4. 8/14/42 GD’s note: Routine mailing to Mr. [1428] in care of the Airport was ret’d giving another airport as his address, so apparently he was still well enough to hold a job.

B1. 8/21/37 Wife wrote: “What can I do to assist him in regaining his mental health? Also, what is his part in the cure?”
B2. 8/28/37: “The psychiatrists we have consulted agree that the delusions Mr. [1428] is suffering from may be a form of dementia praecox. Their form of treatment varies. I am not satisfied with what has been done or at all sure they are on the right track. What tr. should be given…where can I find such tr.? Should he be sent to a hospital? If so, where? Dr. Stewart of the Meadowbrook Hospital believes he can in time be made mentally stable by weekly visits to her. She proposes waiting six mos. to see if he gets better or worse. It seems to me better to catch this ailment in time and not allow it to get worse. And certainly he is getting no better.
It seems to me also that my attitude toward his illness would have a great deal of bearing on keeping him more or less stabilized and helping him plot a course to keep to. (It seems impossible for him to do this.) What should my attitude and actions be in this regard? No one has ever given a satisfactory answer to this question.
I do so hope you can give me a definite course to follow and particularly the solution to this problem. I shall believe you can.”
