This psychic reading given by Edgar Cayce at his office, 105th St. & Ocean, Va. Beach, Va., this 9th day of December, 1931, in accordance with request made by his mother - Mrs. [959], Active Member of Ass”n for Research & Enlightenment, Inc.

1. EC: Yes, we have the body here, [146], - this we have had before. While apparently there has not been as much improvement in the physical forces of the body as might have been expected, from that as has been given, yet WE find there are MANY improvements in the physical forces of the body. While the tendencies are still not to be talkative, yet whenever there are those activities or HAPPENINGS about the body that are different, in which the body becomes particularly interested, there is more attention, there is more attempt to find or give self-expression. This shows well. Also the greater portion of the treatments, manipulations that have been given, are well. While the period of rest is now, we would begin with these again for at least one other period, see, through the changes as are coming, especially in or for the adolescence - or the changes as come about for the activities that may be brought about, by the applications that are being made for the development of the organs in the change, and that counsel, that experience of the association with individual Elisha T. Kirk, D.O.] that may advise, may counsel, may talk with, may reason with, even though apparently not much is NEEDED at times, will make for the better and greater developments in and for the body.

2. We would when necessary keep up the Bitters that will aid, especially, in these nerve changes that come about in this system, or body, in these changes. The general condition is on the improve! Ready for questions.

3. (Q) Is his understanding clearer than three months ago? (A) MUCH clearer, as has been indicated. Much more is being gained by the body in subconscious forces, in its real activities of the inner self, than IS apparent at times; but when there are CHANGES that particularly interest the body, there’s much more attempt to give expression to self than there was some months ago. In the next three to four months we would find there should be changes in the surroundings, even, of the body, for the betterment, for the better association and better activities of the body. See?

4. (Q) If treatments were discontinued at this time, would he cease to improve? (A) We would have the period of rest now, for two to three weeks - that is, of SO MUCH of the treatments - but we would have another series of treatments - see?

5. (Q) Has response by the body been as marked as answer to Ques. #12 in last reading would indicate? (A) This has been outlined; while there is not as much outward appearance as MIGHT have been indicated, yet the general conditions and the improvements are SO marked that these may be seen to be on the improve for DEFINITE, PERMANENT, relief for the body!

6. (Q) How are the teeth? (A) These show, from their position and their activities, that these need some local attention - but as a whole, very good.

7. (Q) Have impaction and imbedding cleared any? (A) To some extent. These should be more attended to.

8. (Q) Is there any decay? (A) It has been indicated that these are very good in this respect. More particular attention needs to be given the impaction.

9. (Q) Is there any change in teaching, environment or treatment, that will induce him to talk? (A) Those things that will be of interest to the body, and these should be hunted out in the teaching, or the training, will enable him - or will give rise to the attempt to EXPRESS self more! This has been indicated.

10. (Q) Has any change, due to period of adolescence, taken place or begun? (A) As indicated, it would be well that this be followed very closely BY the one MAKING the applications, or adjustments. This can BEST be determined, as to when the change - of course, there is changing taking place, but - as to when and what EFFECT it is having upon the system, BY the one MAKING the adjustments, or making the treatments see? These, then, may be best AIDED BY such an one, through the conversation, through the activities, through that as may be applied. Do that.

11. (Q) In the first reading information came that his trouble started before birth, “for there was a breach presentation and in the turn was made a pressure, etc.” State definitely just how long before actual birth that this turn took place? [See 146-1.] (A) Two to three hours.

12. (Q) When should there be another check reading? (A) When the conditions indicate that advice or counsel, or changes, are necessary to be made or met at that time. Three to four months.

13. (Q) How should this individual body be cared for during the adolescent age? (A) This has been indicated, over and over again.

R1. 1/31/32 Mother wrote: (After giving report on husband’s rdg. 1170-1)

“Of course, we feel [146]‘s improvement is the one thing that seems slowest, but as other things have come that we have earnestly prayed for, we know that is coming too. Mrs. Pope writes that he is surely improving. We do not see a way to keep up the treatments but we do so want to keep them up at this time…

“Here I am writing to you just like you were interested in all my family affairs, and so you are I’m sure, as you and Mrs. Cayce have always appeared to me as very dear friends. I think there are folks who seem nearer on short acquaintances than others you have known a lifetime. So it is with you.”

R2. 3/16/32 She wrote: “This belated ck. is to finish paying for [146]‘s last rdg. …I am wondering if I might get some of the A.R.E. Prayer Group to ask the questions in the next rdg. for [146]. Am I doing all I can do to get accomplished the results for which we are working for [146]? Is everything being done for him that can be done, and in the right way and right spirit? I would certainly appreciate the prayers of this group of students in his behalf. I feel prayers are needed as much as treatments - or more.”

R3. 3/23/32 EC wrote: “You may be very sure that we have added [146]‘s name to our growing list of those who are seeking some peace and aid through our prayer circle. I am glad to say we have had some very wonderful reports from some of those we have been trying to help from day to day.”

R4. 4/21/32 Prayer Group Rdg. 281-5, Par. 19-A indicated that [146] was afflicted in the IMAGINATIVE system, and that he would be “materially aided by the laying on of hands of one that would aid in bringing help.”

R5. 5/1/32 Group #1 Rdg. 262-18, Par. 29-A advised the position of hands for treating [146] magnetically would be the right hand on the 3rd and 4th cervical, the left on the auditory plexus - or that about the lower portion of the ear, thumb and finger on either side.

R6. 5/2/32 Mother, Mrs. [959], wrote: “Well, I know all of you are interested in the same thing. I have not said much but I am very much interested in the ‘Healing Group.’ Miss Florence Edmonds wrote me about the magnetic treatments being advised for [146]. (I did not receive a copy of that particular rdg.) I have written her that both Mrs. Pope and I will do all in our power to cooperate in any way. Mrs. Pope plans to come down sometime next week with [146]. I am so anxious to see them. She says [146] has really improved.”

R7. 5/2/32 Mrs. Anne M. Pope’s letter to the A.R.E. Prayer Group:

“Dear Friends, Thank you for the prayer you sent me quite some time ago. I have been wanting to acknowledge it for a long time, as I am VERY MUCH interested in that work. It is gratifying to know of other organizations like the Unity School of Christianity in Kansas City. I am glad to know that this is an outgrowth of Mr. Cayce’s work. I always felt such should come in connection with him.

“Will you write me if you take special cases for prayer? and if you accept offerings? There is nothing in the world like prayer.

“God bless you all in the precious work you are doing.

“Hoping to receive further information, I am Sincerely, Mrs. Anne M. Pope.”

R8. 5/6/32 EC wrote Mrs. [959], who also in her letter of 5/2/32 had spoken of a lady who was antagonistic to Mrs. [959]‘s interest in EC’s work: “She really thinks me a little UNBALANCED:”

My dear Mrs. [959]: -

I have yours of the 2nd. You no doubt before this time have heard from the Healing Group, and have had the readings from Miss Gladys advising the treatment for [146]. The magnetic treatment along with other things has in many cases proved most beneficial. This, of course, has been a development - yet among the very first cases that we had over thirty years ago the same treatment was used. As you know from what you have heard, the information apparently gives that necessary for the development of the individual at the time it is necessary for its best welfare. I hope we will be able to have the wholehearted cooperation from Mrs. Pope, and that she will be able to give the treatments at 11:30 A.M. - the time set for this meditation. You can very well imagine the number of requests that come to the Healing Group, and it has grown to such proportions that it requires at least three different periods during the day for the group in their meditation, and - as some of them have jokingly said - it keeps us praying practically all day. I’m sure this will certainly never do any one of us any harm, if it is done in sincerity and does not become merely rote or routine. We need to keep the spirit of the thing, and not just the formality for the formality will not bring health, it will not bring the Christ Consciousness. It is only those who seek in Spirit and in Truth that find.

Yes, I can very well imagine how much antagonism you encounter from time to time. All of us have these periods.

If we know, though, in whom we have believed - and if we will give the credit where it is due, not in any individual, not in my ability, but in the Creator - I think we can gradually break down all barriers. From the beginning God has spoken to His people through individuals. It is not that I am especially gifted. Possibly I have been able to learn to lay aside the material, that the Spirit may magnify the greater - and this information comes from much higher sources than is possible for me to ever give out.

The study groups are busy with their lessons. You no doubt have kept up very well with the various readings they have had on the different subjects, and you will no doubt be well fitted to consider some study. I don’t know, from the antagonism you have had, as to whether they will think you are crazier than ever or not, when you want to organize a study group, but I’m sure if you begin with two or three, even, you will be able to have so much more to give out that the most skeptical will in a short while realize you have contacted the higher forces themselves, and are not crazy at all. Religion of Jesus Christ is a common-sense, everyday thing - and if this isn’t His religion, then it is far afield from what we think it is.

You will probably receive a notice about the meetings to be held in June. I certainly hope that circumstances and conditions will enable you to be on hand at least part of that time, anyway. Possibly when Mrs. Pope comes down you will be able to run down and see us for a few days.

At least let us hear from you from time to time. As yet we haven’t gotten set in a place for a permanent residence. We hope that by or before June first we will be located somewhere. At present it seems that we will be across the street from the Catholic Church. This may not be a satisfactory location for some, but at least it will be in a spiritual atmosphere. We are all seeking the same thing, though we may be very antagonistic one to another oftentimes. God is One! and His manifestations in the material world are oftentimes misunderstood by individuals who have become lopsided, or centered in one idea, and have lost track of the real ideal of the love of God.

R9. 5/21/32 Mrs. [959] wrote: “Mrs. Pope brought [146] home on the 17th and ret’d yesterday. We could not see great improvement BUT THERE IS SOME. She says it has come in the past two months, so it’s just since the groups have been having prayer and meditation for him. I want to urge that they continue to include him in all prayers and meditations.

“Mrs. Pope kindly took [146] back with her, with little hope of being paid any way soon, but it will all come out right I am sure. She felt it would not be wise to leave off his schooling just now unless the rdg. said so definitely. She has wonderful control and influence over him. I wish you could visit her little school. While she was down here I had opportunity to know her so much better and find she has most wonderful faith of anyone I ever knew. She is so interested in your study groups and took all the rdgs. that I have home with her to go over.

“Just how soon can you give ck. rdg. for [146]? We are preparing questions which we will send as soon as you can advise time of rdg…

“Mrs. Pope cannot begin the magnetic treatments until June 1st (for [l46]), but she is ready to do all she can. Hope you can give the rdg. soon.”
