This Psychic Reading given by Edgar Cayce at his home on Arctic Crescent, Virginia Beach, Va., this 23rd day of October, 1937, in accordance with request made by the self, through Mrs. [1158], Active Member of the Ass”n for Research & Enlightenment, Inc.

1. GC: You will have before you [1463] who is at …, N.Y. You will consider her mental and material affairs, especially in relation to her work and associations with other individuals. You will answer the questions which she has submitted, as I ask them:

2. EC: Yes, we have the entity as an entity; the desire, the purposes, and the relationships with others - [1463].

3. Now in giving that as we find that may be helpful or constructive in the experience of the entity, from the very activities the entity has innately and manifestedly formed those that are the parallels; or ideals by which, through which that as may be given is to be judged.

4. Oft, as we find, the entity has attempted to correlate that given to the purposes of others, rather than a complete ideal of its own individuality; and has created thus a personality that has had its natural reactions upon those with whom and to whom the entity has made its active efforts as an appeal or direction.

5. Then to say as to whether these are correct or not would be to pass judgement.

6. Rather must there be within the activities of the entity that which constantly, persistently, gives an expression of the HOPE, of the anxiety even, that the entity holds as its ideal.

7. And when this expression - whether given in song, in a psalm, in poetry, in rime [rhyme] or in prose - is contrarywise to same, it is not keeping faith with self.

8. As we find, the experiences of the entity in its sojourns through the earth have been and are such that there is no wonder that there are times when the entity attempts to appeal to the masses, rather than that still small voice from within.

9. Know then, rather, as is innately felt, and that has at times been so beautifully expressed, that the efforts in bringing enlightenment or awareness to the minds and the hearts of others MUST appeal to them WHERE THEY ARE! Not where you would LIKE for them to be!

10. But the still small voice of the consciousness, the awareness of the soul as to its relationships to the Creative Forces, or nature, or nature’s expressions, or manifestation of the spirit of truth, and of hope, MUST be in accord with the desires, the purposes, that make for creating the desire to be those things that are in the material experiences of man the evidences of the manifestation of the spirit of truth; as: hope, brotherly love, patience, longsuffering, gentleness, kindness, under and in EVERY experience of the activities of an individual soul.

11. For know - as from the beginning of man’s material manifestations - to become self-indulgent, self-glorifying, self-exalting, is to create that which, when it has blossomed into the experience, must bring sadness, sorrow, disputations and the like. And it is the fruits of these then that bring forth dissensions.

12. Hence unless there is the more and more awareness of the peace that comes with the acknowledgement of “Not my will but Thine, O Father of mercy and judgement, be done in and through me, IN my relationships to my fellow man,” there cannot come that peace which passes man’s understanding. Such an attitude alone of making the will one with the Father’s may bring that peace; and it creates the beauty of divine love manifested among the children of men.

13. Ready for questions.

14. (Q) What has been the relationship, in past lives, between me and [Mr. John] now residing at …, N.Y. City? (A) This may best be approached by a review of the experiences in the earth of each. But as we find - as may be given from this approach alone - their activities have been together in what is now known as the Roman land; such that, while there were differences as to morality as well as political and religious or spiritual thought, they were as helpmeets one to another. Their relationships then, as would be termed in the present, were more than just friendly - rather as close relationships one to another.

15. (Q) Is it cosmically correct that I have further contact, in this present life experience, with this entity, John […]? (A) Each may be a prop, a help, one to another. Do not make same a selfish matter, but rather that as may be the helpfulness in each. Give a way or manner of the greater EXPRESSIONS of that which may bring the fruits of the spirit of truth as conscious experiences in the lives of others.

16. (Q) Is it right and for my constructive good to sign up with a Lecture Bureau and secure as my business and professional manager, [Mrs. [510]], …, N.Y.C.? (A) As we find, if there is made the awareness that the lecturing, the reading as would be given under such direction would ever be CONSTRUCTIVE - not as propaganda alone but as experiences for the awareness of those influences - this would be well.

For much might be said, as we have indicated heretofore, for the purposes and desires that PROMPT the entity called [510] in her activity as a service to others.

With the associations, then, let the policies, the purposes, be not alone for the material gain. For remember, these should be ever secondary. While it is true that in a material world the material things are necessities for material activities, if the promptings of the activities are of a CONSTRUCTIVE nature, GOD - or the Creative Force, or the Divine - gives the increase.

For man may not do other than be the channel through which the increase of ANY nature may arise. For God alone gives the increase.

Then, in such an association, with those activities, those purposes as the ideals of the activities, we may bring, we may expect results.

And if you do not expect, how CAN it be creative? For the increase in material things, in the activities that are necessary to be increased to meet that need that would CONTINUE for the soul development?

For the purposes of each entity, each soul, in a manifested experience, should ever be to do whatever is necessary for the full awakening of the purpose that the Creative Force or God, or the Universal Energy (or whatever term may be necessary for the individual awakening) might be expressed.

For only with the purpose held in that direction may there be the vision of the glory that is prepared for those that seek to know His Face.

Use the abilities, then, in the direction that has been awakened so oft; that alone has kept the EFFORTS OF THE ENTITY as a GROWING experience. For know that only as we sow do we reap.

As you then sow CONSTRUCTIVE influences into the lives and experiences of others, you make such growth in your OWN relationships to the Whole.

17. (Q) What is the next step in my work and career? (A) This has just been indicated. Be sincere with self as to your purposes and desires, knowing that you must, that you will, that you do make them constructive in the experiences of others to KNOW hope and faith and charity.

18. (Q) What suggestions can you make as to how to proceed, now, in business and professional ways, so that my Product, in Books, Recitals, Creative Writings, shall bring adequate returns? (A) Just as has been indicated. These are that as should be the basis of every entity’s activity in a material experience. And these are they; being true to self and to the voice within. For know, He has promised to meet thee in the tabernacle of thine OWN individual self! In that manner, then - as you turn within. And as has been said of old, being true then to that self thou wilt not be false to any.

BUILD truth, honesty, integrity; and patience.

For as Time and Space and Patience in a three-dimensional world are AS manifestations of Truth into the experiences of souls of men, so impressing upon the minds to use these in expressions of faith and hope and love there may be brought the constructive forces of every nature.

For the silver and gold are the Lord’s, and ye would NOT then cheat thine own soul by the use or misuse of that of any nature that would be a manifestation of the Love Divine that maketh the world anew day by day.

B1. 10/21/37 Mrs. [1158] submitted questions. Miss [1463] had wanted a Life Reading, but not knowing her correct birth date [It was given by EC in 1463-2 on 11/8/37]. Mrs. [1158] suggested a Mental-Spiritual reading by questions.

Miss [1463]‘s EXPLANATION AS TO DATE OF MY BIRTH, PLACE OF BIRTH

AND OTHER REQUIRED DATA

1. May I say at once that in the work I have attempted to perform on this planet, I have had a sense of TIMELESSNESS. I HAVE MADE A POINT OF IGNORING “TIME” AS MOST MORTALS CONCEIVE IT, AND HAVE DEVOTED MYSELF TO GIVING FORTH A MESSAGE WHICH IS OF NECESSITY AND BY ITS VERY NATURE, TIMELESS. THEREFORE I HAVE NOT GATHERED THE USUAL DATA AS TO YEAR OF BIRTH, ETC ETC. BUT I CAN FURNISH CLUES WHICH WILL BE OF AID TO YOU NOW.

I CAN TELL YOU CERTAIN FACTS WHICH WILL PROVE THAT I HAVE BEEN FUNCTIONING ON THIS PLANET FOR OVER HALF A CENTURY - INDEED, MY ACTIVITIES ARE KNOWN TO MANY PERSONS WHO THINK OF ME AS HAVING LIVED HERE FOR OVER SIXTY YEARS. ONE FRIEND SAID TO ME WITHIN THE PAST FOUR YEARS: “WHAT YOU HAVE DONE AS TO PRESERVING YOUR YOUTH IS REGARDED BY THOSE WHO KNOW as a modern miracle.” Yet I have made no claims to such miracle. I only know my mother taught me to DISREGARD AGE AND TO THINK OF MYSELF AS LIVING IN ETERNITY NOW. I have never had my face “lifted” or anything of that kind. I simply live in a blaze of activity on the creative plane, and am not aware of the passage of time.

3. I can say this: In the year 1900 I was married. That means, 37 years ago I became a wife. The marriage did not last long and was apparently only a means of detaching me from the main road of family life and starting me forth upon MY OWN PATH as a separate individual, pledged to accomplish a certain end.

4. My day of birth was, I believe, September 16th. This is the date my friends observe when the anniversary comes round each year.

5. The place of birth is uncertain. I recall WASHINGTON D.C. AS MY EARLY CHILDHOOD HOME. THIS IS THE CLEAREST MEMORY, ALSO I RECALL A VISIT TO PHILADELPHIA WHEN I HEARD BELLS PROCLAIMING SOME CENTENNARY. I WAS A TINY CHILD, AND I REMEMBER GOING TO THE WINDOW AT SUNSET AND HEARING THESE BELLS CHIMING.

6. I HAVE BEEN MARRIED ONLY ONCE, AND AM NOW LEGALLY DIVORCED. I HAVE NO REALIZATION OF HAVING BEEN MARRIED. I SEEM TO MYSELF TO HAVE BEEN A SINGLE ENTITY, EXCEPT FOR THE MARVELOUS COMRADESHIP EXISTING BETWEEN MY MOTHER AND MYSELF - THE STRONGEST RELATIONSHIP OF MY LIFE. I ALSO DEARLY LOVED AND ADMIRED MY FATHER, WHO PASSED ON ABOUT FIFTEEN YEARS AGO IN COLORADO, WHILE HE WAS ENGAGED IN MINING ENTERPRISES THERE.

7. I have been attracted powerfully to certain individuals who were destined to play an important part in my work. THESE FRIENDSHIPS WERE DESIGNED TO BECOME IMPERSONAL FORCES INSTEAD OF THE CLOSER, INTIMATE RELATIONSHIP USUALLY WISHED FOR ON THIS PLANE OF ACTION.
