This Psychic Reading given by Edgar Cayce at the David E. Kahn home, 20 Woods Lane, Scarsdale, N.Y., this 14th day of November, 1937, in accordance with request made by the self, through Mr. [949], Associate Member of the Ass”n for Research & Enlightenment, Inc.

Born August 15, 1896, in Bendzin, Russian Poland. Time of Reading 11:15 to 11:45 A. M. Eastern Standard Time. New York City. (Life Reading Suggestion)

1. EC: (Going back from present to the birth - “August - there’s been a change with the dates.”)

2. We have the records here of that entity now called Mr. [1476].

3. In giving the interpretations of the influences in the experience of this entity, those chosen as influences from the astrological sojourns become as the mental or innate urges; while those from the earthly appearances become the urges from the emotional natures.

4. These to be sure in their application become material experiences, if the entity will but gain an insight as to how these influences may become facts, experiences in its activities; through that same manner of meditation in the same manner as it applies itself in making for harmonies in the musical or artistic forces.

5. Astrologically we find these deflecting. For the application of the entity in this material sojourn has not been wholly in accord with what would be accredited from the purely astrological aspects.

6. But the changes wrought, as we find, are towards developments; or the choice of activities is in such a manner that the opportunities thus presented by the choice may become hopeful, helpful stepping-stones in the experience of the entity in the present.

7. These are the astrological aspects, then:

8. Venus with Jupiter are as the ruling forces. Hence harmonies, friendships; experiences in relationships to the many; influences or forces that may work upon the emotions of the individual’s activity in relationship to the many - all become a portion of the entity’s experience in the present.

9. Thus we find these innately and manifestedly become an influence towards activities in music, in the arts.

10. Yet for the ENTITY’S harmony, the ENTITY’S better activity, it is necessary for these to be in the harmony of relationships of individuals rather than pastorals or those as would pertain to nature.

11. The depicting of emotions, the longings for the heart and hand - or the home, or such activities; these become as channels through which the entity may reach the greater expressions for love lost, loves deferred, loves attained in such ways and manners as to bring those concepts of spiritual awakening from such.

12. In such channels then may the entity find the greater awakening mentally and in the soul; and in the application of same the greater material successes.

13. Hence the manner of expression would be that in which the entity may come in the closer contact with the many, as in making the personal appearances; or as in concert rather than in air ways or in those ways in which there may be other activities.

14. As the direct activity then of the stage OR concert may the entity find the greater outlet for the self’s abilities.

15. Also in the astrological forces we find those questionings that come from Saturn. While such influences have brought and do bring changes of definite natures, these have seemed or appeared to be - as it were - the continuing to start over again.

16. Hence it becomes a part of the application of self, as is necessary for every great understanding, to EXPERIENCE the emotions that may be depicted to others.

17. From the Uranian influence we find the interest in the mystery and the occult, and also from that sojourn we find those very extreme experiences of every character or nature as a part of the entity’s expression.

18. As to the sojourns in the earth, these make for those influences in which the entity expresses through the emotional, and in which the entity may find the activities turning at times from the close associations and relationships. These become a part of the entity’s experience in which the application may be DEFINITELY, purposefully, made.

19. Before this, then, we find the entity was in the land of the present nativity, during those periods when there were turmoils in the land of the choice.

20. The entity then was among those who with the peoples of its own land joined with those in the defense of the land of its choice in the present.

21. Hence we find the entity journeyed with, and was close with, and under the direction of those who during those experiences made a sojourn and an activity in the land of the present choice; Jean Pollochk.

22. During the latter portion of the experience the entity became a teacher, a minister to those who prepared for activities through what ye would call in the present the cadet schools, or the training schools for young men. This was a part of the entity’s activity in what is now known as the central west, or about what is now Cincinnati, Ohio.

23. Before that we find the entity was in the land of the ‘city in the hills and the plains,’ when the people from the Grecian land were active in preparing for changes to be wrought, and the attempt through subtle invasions to use same for the further development of their own advances made during the experience.

24. The entity then was in close associations with some of those that were the leaders with Uhjltd; and later in the experience became very close to those activities in furnishing the music, the art activities as ye would term in the present, and the entertainments through same for the peoples of the East and the peoples of the West.

25. For the entity was with Edssi who was active in bringing closer relationships with those defenders of the experiences in the latter day Persian activity.

26. Hence we find in the present that certain types of music, certain types of associations and relations, become as a part of the entity’s experience; especially that which depicts longings between individuals - those that are defying, those that are enraging, those that carry the promptings of an interest in the activities as a patriot, co-patriot, that would arouse men and women for definite service.

27. These become channels through which the entity may give greater expression, rather than through the pastorals or the lazy stream, or the depicting of such natures.

28. Before that we find the entity was in the land now called the Egyptian, but of those peoples of the land to which the Priest had been banished.

29. And the entity returned with the Priest, becoming a part of those individual activities when the separations were made into the hospitalizations, the schools of the various characters, and the application in attempting to make song and dance a part of the Temple Service.

30. The entity then, as El-ke-dun, was the first to combine the reeds and the lyre or the stringed instruments as a combination for the songs of the Atlanteans, the Natives’ chant, the wild revelry of its own land, to arouse the emotions necessary for concerted activity of the peoples.

31. Hence still may the entity find in its present experience that the arousing of such natures and characters of emotions may become a part of the entity’s activity; as the chant of the warrior, as the chant for the dead, as the chant for those that were being cleansed from impurities, as the chant for those who separated themselves for definite work.

32. As to the abilities of the entity in the present, then, and that to which it may attain, and how:

33. It may be seen from the sojourns given that the entity has the more often depended upon not MERE circumstance but upon that as of a guiding force in its relationships and activities to and with others.

34. Hence we find the inclination too oft is to belittle its own abilities.

35. But if the entity finds within self that answer to what has been said here as to its ideal, and as to its attainment in same, then:

36. BOLDLY know that ye have arrived at that experience where, with the consciousness of giving self in such ways and manners, thy service may bring hope and help and the longings for constructive experiences.

37. And ye will find that as ye give, ye receive; as ye serve, ye become better and better understood, better and better known.

38. But know, all must be - mentally, spiritually - CONSTRUCTIVE; so that the reactions in the physical experiences of all may be for that hopefulness which is ever the cry of the soul in its search for its relationships to its Maker.

39. Ready for questions.

40. (Q) In what particular direction, among the possibilities before me, should I apply my talents? (A) As has been indicated, we find that they should be applied in that direction more of the personal appearance - or in concert or stage activity.

41. (Q) Is anything likely to develop for me in radio? (A) This depends upon the application. As WE find, the fields as indicated offer the channels for the greater and better expression of the entity’s abilities - rather than radio.

42. (Q) Is anything likely to develop for me in concert work? (A) As just indicated - this is how self should apply self.

43. (Q) In Hollywood? (A) As given.

44. (Q) If anything does develop, will my physical condition handicap me - as it is now? (A) This should be approached rather from the physical record, than from the record of the soul’s whole sojourn as we have here.

45. (Q) Would a Physical Reading through this channel be advisable for me? (A) As just indicated.

46. (Q) Any other advice for the body at this time? (A) As given, look into self; know the purposes. By analyzing what has been the experience, see that the purposes are nigh unto the inner calls. Then knowing ye are on the right track, or in the right direction, APPLY self.

Reports & Follow-up

R1. 11/14/37 P.M. Mr. [949] came by and had GD read parts of the reading [1476-1] to him. He said it was most remarkable, that Mr. [1476] does like that kind of music, etc. The remark at the beginning of the reading was probably referring to change made when figuring his birth date according to our calendar - translating it from the calendar used in Poland at the time of his birth.

R2. 11/21/37 Mr. [949] phoned asking that EC make an appointment for a Physical Rdg. for Mr. [1476].

R3. 11/27/37 Mr. [949]‘s letter, reporting on a recent Physical Reading for himself: “More urgent now is a reading for my friend, [1476], which I spoke to you about in Scarsdale and for which you have the application and the questions. His address is … and I would like to have a reading as soon as possible. If you have mislaid the questions I gave Gladys in Scarsdale, have the reading anyway, as I am confident that they will be covered and I don’t want to waste much time. It might not be very serious but I am anxious.”

R4. 12/31/37 See 1476-2, a Physical Reading, in which questions were submitted regarding a possible heart condition, constant congestion, pains in joints, etc.

R5. 7/6/43 Mr. [1476] wrote expressing regret that he had not followed his physical reading at the time it was given, but would follow the advice in a ck. up reading which might be different seven years later.

“I am a man almost fifty years of age who was destined to be a great concert pianist. Unfortunately, in my early twenties I had to undergo a slight operation on my right hand, caused by overwork, which left me with a fixation that my hand could never stand the rigors of concertizing. It took me all these years to conquer this fear and again I have started working towards the goal which I KNOW I am destined for. It is with this purpose in mind that I want to regain my health and strength more than ever before, and that is why I beseech you to help me. It is not for myself that I ask this but for the talent which has been bestowed on me.”

R6. 7/14/43 Mr. [1476], writing in regard to a second Physical Reading [1476-3], spoke of visiting with Mr. [257] and talking about EC to the wee hours: “I am hoping to have you come to N.Y. just to have a good time. I feel that you have richly deserved it. Having been with you in the past when you were known as Uhjltd, I feel a strong urge to be with you again.”

R7. 7/17/43 He referred Mrs. [3239] for a Life Rdg.

R8. 11/15/43 He referred Mrs. [5177] for Life Rdg. and Physical Rdg.

R9. 11/15/43 Mr. Cayce gave Mr. [1476] his Ck. Physical, 1476-3.

R10. 11/48 GD’s note: A questionnaire sent to Mr. [1476]‘s last known address in N.Y. was returned marked ADDRESS UNKNOWN.

R11. April 1951 HCL saw Mr. [1476] in Los Angeles where he was almost entirely dependent on his friend and past student, Mr. [949], since Mr. [1476] had begun to lose the use of his hands - unable to continue his work as a pianist. He certainly wishes now that he had followed his physical readings which predicted this result unless the cause were removed.

R12. Some years later HLC heard, from Mr. [949], that Mr. [1476] had died. Neither Mr. [1476] nor his student Mr. [949] achieved greatness in their music, though Mr. [1476] was considered a good teacher. In fact, Mr. [949] was not a professional himself; he made his living in the business world.

R13. 1/27/81 GD’s note: For several years I have not been able to contact Mr. [949] as he has moved from his Calif. address and he has not been in touch with us. So I am unable to get further details about Mr. [1476]‘s life, as Mr. [949] who put him in touch with us was the only contact we ever had.

B1. 10/22/37 Mr. [949]‘s letter: “I am enclosing the application of my friend [and music teacher], [1476], for whom we would like to have both a Life and Physical Reading. He has no questions to ask, but I would like to ask, in the Life Reading, if in past experiences, his entity was at all connected with any of ours… He tells me the year of his birth is approximate, because of the Russian calendar, 1896, though, is the nearest he can estimate it.”
