This psychic reading given by Edgar Cayce at the Halcyon Hotel, Miami, Florida, this 8th day of February, 1927, in accordance with request made by self, through Mr. [550].

1. GC: You will go over this body carefully, examine it thoroughly, and tell me the conditions you find at the present time. You will diagnose the case thoroughly, giving the cause of the existing conditions; also the treatment for the cure and relief of this body.

2. EC: Yes, we have the body here.

3. Now, we find there are abnormal conditions with this body. These are the outcome of hindered elimination and effects as have been produced in the body by the attack, as it were, of these drosses as left in system on various portions of the organisms of the body, until there is existent specific conditions affecting the functioning of specific organs, and these are of the sensory system particularly; though the seat of trouble is deeper than that for which most of that administered for the relief has been given.

4. Now, these are conditions as we find them in this body, [148], we are speaking of, and behold he prayeth!

5. First: IN THE BLOOD SUPPLY, in this we find there are the evidences of the hindered circulation, as is seen both in the pressure in the venous strain or in that of the heart’s pressure; also this is seen in the capillary circulation, and in the effects of the emunctory discharges. In the elements in the blood, this shows that there is a sedimentary condition in many of the eliminating centers; as is seen in the congestion in liver and the condition in the kidneys.

6. IN THE NERVE SYSTEM, in this we find the real seat or the basis of that condition existent in the body; for there are those subluxations in the cerebrospinal center, in which ganglions of the cerebrospinal nerves are so pressed upon as to give improper incentive in functional reaction, as well as that of improper functioning - for, as is seen in the 11th and 12th dorsal, and in the 2nd and 4th lumbar, these hinder the normal reaction from nerve energy of the system to the kidneys in such a way that the system, becoming overcharged by the improper conditions or improper functioning, has left in the system that which, when distributed to the various portions of the body, becoming imbedded, as it were, in the tissue of the capillary circulation and attacking various portions of the functioning system, produces the detrimental effect to the body, or making, as it were, such lazy reaction or improper coordination between the two great poles of the body’s functioning - the liver and the kidneys.

7. Now, in the reaction from these subluxations we find other minor lesions; especially those in the hypogastric plexus, as well as the brachial plexus. Now, taking properties in the system that have exercised that portion of the digestive system to such an extent as to cause so much irritation that an increased hepatic circulation assisted in eliminating some of the poisons, we find this produced such pressure through- out the whole cervical region as to leave in the facial portions of the body those poisons to that extent that the eyes have become dimmed, and this is that which causes the greater distress to the body at the present time. This, as we see, is attacking - through the facial nerve reactions from the cerebrospinal and sympathetic plexus in the cervical region - even directly that of the optic nerve; rather as strangulation at the present time than as of an atrophied or deadened condition. So irritation exists in the cavity itself, as is seen in the lachrymal ducts and in the orb of the eye proper; yet this constant skimming - this constant leadened condition as covers the optic itself - produces an irritation in its OWN centers. This, then, is another evidence of the deflected circulation, and especially of the poor eliminations - both through the capillaries and through the normal eliminations through the great arterial forces; especially through the carotid artery, which is one of those direct large channels of the blood flow to the head and to these portions of the system.

8. All of the system becomes involved, then, under the nerve strain and under the improper elimination, but these are the conditions to be met.

9. Now, to meet these, we would find THIS is the manner and way in which to reach the SEAT of the trouble:

10. The hot baths are GOOD, as is also those purgatives for the digestive system, and for the congestion as shows in liver and in kidneys; but rather in THIS manner would we reach these various conditions:

Those of the baths, preferably in that form of the Turkish; but wherein the manipulations and adjustments for those subluxations in the cerebrospinal system may be carried out immediately following such steaming and such baths - see? So these would be given, then, every other day, and the adjustments osteopathically or chiropractically - preferably the osteopath, for the massaging of the muscular tissue, the awakening of the various centers, is as necessary as the adjustment of the cervical centers themselves. This will allow the system to overcome these conditions and bring about the normal elimination, and assimilate those conditions in the system that are hindering in the vision - as in the other portions of the sensory system.

12. In that of the local application for the condition existing in the facial nerves, and the facial condition as respecting the eyes, every second day there should be applied to the temple (not the eye itself, see? but the temple and temple nerves) those of a portion of a pig’s liver, warm with the animal heat, and as soon as this has lost the animal heat, remove; cleansing the eye following same with any of those antiseptic solutions that are especially prepared for such - for no irritation should be produced by antiseptics, see? Hence these should be of the alkaline nature, see? And following such cleansing, we would then place OVER the eyeball itself that of scraped potato - Irish Potato (old - not new), and then when this has hardened, remove, cleansing again with the antiseptic - boracic acid solution being that preferable, which is alkaline in its reaction.

13. For the condition as appears in the throat from time to time, through this same condition, use a gargle of Listerine and of Glyco-Thymoline - one is acid and one an alkaline in the reaction; but one following the other - NOT mixed together, see? Use the acid first, the Listerine - then the Glyco-Thymoline following, so that we have this reaction in the system.

14. Follow this condition and this outline as given for at least twenty-three (23) such adjustments and treatments. Then there would be given that necessary for the full restoration of normalcy through this body of [148]. Do this at present.

R1. 2/14/27 [148]‘s letter to EC: ”…Your reading was very complete and I feel that we are on the right track to get results, and I am willing to go any place where I can get the kind of treatments you prescribe; as the Turkish baths, pig liver, and massage rubs and proper care cannot be had everywhere. And I thought perhaps you had some place in view where I could get this form of treatment if it was not too expensive, for I have no earning power and I must guide my finances very closely.

“If you have any suggestions to offer, I would gladly fall in line with your decision, for I am at a handicap as my sight is nearly gone, only being able to distinguish day and night, see lights or any object going in front of me, but not enough to distinguish what it is. I feel there is still hope for there is still sight and all it needs is the right treatment to strengthen it. Six years ago I had never worn glasses, four years ago I could see to read with a strong lense, three and a half years ago, since I have been in the condition I am now. While in my room I can toss coins around on the bedspread and pick them up by means of my sight but am unable to tell the denomination of the coin without feeling it. I shall keep you posted from time to time as to my condition.

“I am compelled to give my kidneys relief at least every two hours during the night; otherwise I feel fine physically…”

R2. 3/15/27 EC’s letter to Mr. [148]: “I certainly hope that you will pardon my delay in answering yours of February 14th. It was forwarded to me at Miami, and then I was moving about; consequently didn’t have the opportunity to answer until I reached home.

“I’m certainly glad to know that you found the reading very complete, and I am sure - if you are able to get these treatments carried out, you will find that you will gain results therefrom. This has been the history of every case - almost without exception since I have been giving these readings.

“Now, I am sure, Mr. [148], you realize from your own circumstance and condition how very necessary it is that there be such a place where these suggestions CAN be carried out, but I am sorry to say, just at the present time, I do not know a place anywhere these could be followed out just as has been given. POSSIBLY, if you will write to Dr. T. B. House, in care of the hospital at Murray, Kentucky, telling him the circumstances and conditions, you will be able to get him to take hold of the case - and if he does I am sure he will follow it out in every detail, and I certainly hope that you are able to get him to do it. If you CAN’T get it there, write to Dr. A.C. Layne, 223 West College Street, Griffin, Georgia, and I believe you could have it carried out there.

But my whole heart’s desire is to have such an institution, where EVERYONE might take advantage of these suggestions given in these readings.

“I shall appreciate it, Mr. [148], if you are so situated, if you will let us hear from you, for I assure we are very desirous of being of help if possible…”

R3. 3/15/27 EC’s letter to Dr. T. B. House at Murray, Kentucky: “I don’t mean to be bothering you with something unless you feel like trying to undertake it, but we gave a reading for a man some three or four weeks ago, that I feel like, if he had the opportunity, the man could really regain his eyesight. He is now at …, Arkansas. I do not know just the man’s financial circumstances, but I am reasonably sure that he is able to pay for any service that might be given him, and feeling that perhaps you were closely enough associated with the hospital there, that you might be able to take the case and follow it up yourself. That’s why I am writing you. I have also suggested to this man that he write you and see if he could not make the arrangements. While the treatment is a little bit unusual, it’s not anything but what you could have attended to there in the hospital, and it would necessarily be a hospital case, for it will require a nurse, at least, most of the day. What do you think of it? Of course, if you would want to consider it, we shall be glad to furnish you with any data that we have already; or with the man himself you might take it up when he comes, for of course he has his reading, and he has asked me to suggest some place where he might have these suggestions followed out in their entirety…

“We returned about a week ago from a few weeks’ stay in Florida. I can’t say that our trip was entirely satisfactory, yet I really believe we accomplished a great deal. At least we have some wonderful promises, and they at least raise our hopes for the time being…

“Brown, Blumenthal, and the rest of the people in New York, are as enthusiastic as ever, and as desirous of getting things started as soon as possible.

“Let us hear from you whenever you have the opportunity. Be sure and let me know what you think about this caee, or the possibility of you taking hold of it and handling it…”

R4. 3/20/27 Dr. T. B. House’s letter to EC: “Yours of the 15th is at hand, and in replying, will say that we have a wonderful hospital of some two hundred beds here and also a small clinic of some eight or ten beds; all well fixed for the ease of most any kind of patient. I am in close touch with the management of both and do lots of work in both places. I sure would like to handle any cases that you might see fit to refer for treatment. I also have a drug firm here that will get anything that I might want … so if you care to mention it to your request, we will be glad to take up any work you might want done, and do our best to fo11ow same to the letter.

“I feel very thankful to the people of Murray for the way they have received me back in their midst and the doctors all are glad (so they say to have us for the osteopathic work of the town and are sending a lot of it to us. I have all that I am able to do and some are on the waiting list for treatment. Trusting that you all are well and fine and again assuring you of my desire to do anything in my power for suffering humanity at any time…”

R5. 4/3/27 Dr. T. B. House’s letter to EC: ”…[148] of …, Arkansas wrote me and wanted to know the cost of the treatment and what he could get board for in a private house, as he was not financially able to go the hospital. His reading had been copied, and only a part enclosed, so you see I could not do much for him; so I wrote him that from what I could make from his reading, that his was a hospital case, and would advise him going to same. But as yet, have heard nothing from him. So I have not done much…”
