This Psychic Reading given by Edgar Cayce at his home on Arctic Crescent, Virginia Beach, Va., this 9th day of December, 1937, in accordance with request made by the self - Mrs. [1495], new Associate Member of the Ass”n for Research & Enlightenment, Inc., recommended by Mrs. [1433], her cousin, through Mrs. [760].
[Edgar Cayce; Gertrude Cayce, Conductor; Gladys Davis, Steno.]
Time of Reading 11:00 to 11:15 A. M. Eastern Standard Time. …, Alabama. (Physical Suggestion)
-
EC: Yes, we have the desires as expressed of the body, though we do not find the body physically here.
-
As we find, from those conditions that are manifested, there are disturbing conditions in the coordination between the sympathetic and cerebrospinal system.
-
There are two adhesions. Hence the reactions or the spasmodic conditions, the loss of consciousness; or the conditions producing incoordination in the reactions are two-natured.
-
These as we find are from adhesions, or scar tissue in the one and adhesions in the other, from an overactivity of the eliminations in the upper portion of the ducts that lead to the assimilating of foods from digestive forces of the body.
-
Thus we have the form of impactions.
-
Sedatives do not do other than make for the allaying, though build a greater disturbance - through the very amount of drosses left in the system.
-
As we find, then:
-
We would use the hot Castor Oil Packs for periods of three to four days at a time, and at least six to ten periods - allowing a lapse of two to three days between the periods. Keep these on for several hours at the time, across the lower area of the liver, on the right side, and across the upper portion of the hip bone on the left side and across the portion of the abdomen and spine. Let these be very hot. And following same have a thorough GENTLE massage along the spine.
-
Then in a week or ten days after the periods of the applications of the Oil Packs, have ADJUSTMENTS made osteopathically; relieving the distress in the coccyx area, the lumbar axis, and the first and second and third cervical; to be sure coordinating along the spine with same, see?
-
These should be specific adjustments; coccyx, 4th lumbar or lumbar axis; 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 4th cervicals. These would require at least twelve to fourteen adjustments of such natures.
-
Then take the juice or a tonic made from the Passion Flower. Put about 12 ounces of the Passion Flower, with the leaves and the like, in a gallon of water and reduce to about a pint. Add sufficient alcohol to keep same. The dose would be a teaspoonful at least four times a day. This is not habit-forming, as are the drugs that are used as sedatives for the system.
-
These as we find would bring for this body the better conditions.
-
Ready for questions.
-
(Q) Should the Passion Flower prescription be begun at the same time as the other treatments? (A) As indicated, this is begun AFTER the osteopathic treatments. This tonic would be taken for periods of a month - every day; left off for a period of three to four weeks, then begun again. Twelve ounces to the gallon of water reduced by slow boiling, but do not put in aluminum kettle; rather in enamel or glass ware.
-
(Q) How much alcohol should be added? (A) Sufficient to preserve same. Have this prepared by a chemist, not by self.
-
(Q) Should the osteopathic treatments be begun after the entire course of the Oil Packs? (A) As given, after the entire course of the Oil treatments; for these will break up the lesions.
The adjustments then coming with same would be for the distribution of energies and the relief of the pressures that are indicated in the areas given.
Coccyx, lumbar, and the upper cervicals; coordinating, to be sure, the rest of the cerebrospinal system with those specific adjustments.
In the matter of the diet, keep away from too much starches.
- We are through with this Reading.

Reports & Follow-up
R1. 12/13/37 Letter from [760] to EC: ”…We have been looking forward to receiving Mrs. [1495]‘s reading, ever since the telegram saying you would give it on the morning you suggested. She had been staying home every morning up until after that date, however, we did not get the wire till twenty minutes till 12:00 at least an hour and half after the time it was to be given. If you haven’t given it yet, she will be at home … every morning till she does get it. Often she goes to Mobile with us on Tues. and Friday afternoons when Mrs. [1433] takes her Osteopathic treatments…”
R2. 7/60 In Dr. W. N. Pahnke’s survey of 96 cases of epilepsy from the Edgar Cayce records, he classified Case [1495] in group 2. “The attacks were called epilepsy only in a letter from a friend. One only [reading] was given and there were no follow-up reports. The reading was given without definitely finding the body present.”
