This Psychic Reading given by Edgar Cayce at his home on Arctic Crescent, Virginia Beach, Va., this 9th day of March, 1938, in accordance with request made by the self - Mr. [1497], Associate Member of the Ass”n for Research & Enlightenment, Inc.
[Edgar Cayce; Gertrude Cayce, Conductor; Gladys Davis, Steno.]
Time of Reading 11:30 to 11:45 A. M. Eastern Standard Time. New York City. (Body and enquiring mind, who seeks information, advice and guidance as to his material affairs and the problems which confront him at this time. Ques.)
-
EC: Yes, we have the body, the enquiring mind, [1497]. In manners, this we have had before.
-
Considering the problems which in the present confront the body, the first warnings would be:
-
While there is being experienced great disappointment in the character, in the unappreciative manner in which the self is being treated at this time, do not allow this to cause or make such anxiety - or such resentment - as to cause the self to do in ANY manner that which it will regret.
-
Weigh well all of the conditions which have brought and do bring about the existent conditions, before there is the attempt to expose those who have been unmindful of their obligations to others - as well as the courtesy and obligation to self.
-
But DO in this matter the way you would like to be done by, if the conditions were reversed.
-
To be sure, there must be the protection to those who through thy endeavor, thy activity, have invested in the efforts that were being counselled or guided by the self. This is as ye would have it done.
-
Ready for questions.
-
(Q) Shall I follow my desires and resign from the company at this time? (A) Owing to the circumstances, and the lack of taking the advice that has been given and intimated, it becomes rather an untenable consideration for the self to be renegated to a minor position or capacity; also for the attempt to be made to cause self to become a part of the disparaging conditions which have brought much of these to pass. Then as we find, it would be the more advisable for the self to resign.
-
(Q) Does the consulting engineering field offer me the way to material welfare of family and self, as well as toward goals of usefulness indicated in previous Readings? (A) This as we find offers channels through which there may be the maintaining of self in EVERY phase of its experience or development, not only for the duties and obligations toward family but for the abilities in those directions or channels wherein or through which the entity may become more closely affiliated with foreign relationships, foreign activities; and to make for the bonds of peace and unity in fields of service in that direction.
But this will require that there be made known more in those fields of activity the willingness of the entity to serve state, government and other associate activities, see?
-
(Q) Any other advice along this line? (A) This as has been indicated is as we find for the present.
-
(Q) Shall I now expose the conditions which have led up to this event? (A) As has been indicated, this should be given due consideration. But there should be the protection - with consideration from every angle; and let the Rule - the Golden Rule - be the guide.
Do not become panicky; do not become overanxious, but let this experience be rather used as stepping-stones to greater opportunities - and never a stumblingblock!
- We are through for the present.

R1. 3/10/38 [1497]‘s ltr. to EC:
Dear Mr. Cayce:-
I received the reading and thank you for your prompt action. I cannot refrain from rendering to you a little further assurance of the good which flows through your God-given channel.
Whether psychic or not, call it what you please, I have just been through one of the most refreshing and revitalizing experiences of my life. I ask your prayers, as we are praying, that the benefit, inwardly, of the gift you are using to help so many will be sustained in those of us who have been shown the way.
I went to the Club at 20 minutes to eleven on the day of the appointment, and sat in a quiet corner of the library with The Book. I took it from the shelves to find a message that would start me thinking in the right direction and still the turmoil in my mind.
I opened at random to the Book of Job, who, too, had much to overcome and much to suffer. I was not led to read there but turned a group of pages and my eyes, - quite without intention, because, I regret I have no close knowledge of chapters - feel upon the 86th Psalm. Read it, and you will understand why I feel and felt definite guidance there.
I closed my eyes in the stillness praying and trying to keep my consciousness in tune with what was going on in Virginia Beach. I did not sleep - but did feel a calmness and relaxation that is worthy of repeating - many times in the future.
At exactly 11:45 I was impelled to open my eyes and turn again to the Bible and selected, at random, the 62nd Psalm. Read THAT in the light of the reading just sent.
There is something so strange or phenomenal in what I write. It probably contributes writing to the case histories - but if the testimony of a profound spiritual uplift, and the thoughts attending it are of value I offer it in tribute to a Power which all who are privileged to benefit by it
- should not fail inwardly to justify.
I leave two more thoughts which came - one, as I opened my eyes, was - “He will ever be mindful of His Covenant” - and the record, as I went down stairs to go back to the office - a verse which we used to sing many years ago in the Church choir - “I ask no dream, - no prophet ecstasies - no sudden rending of this veil of clay - no angel visitant - no opening skies. But, oh - take the dimness of my soul away -
The advice and the assurance is as a suit of armor - I am, with God’s help going to try to follow all that has been revealed - without question.
With warm regards
Sincerely, [1497]
R2. 3/19/38 HLC’s letter to EC from N.Y.C.: “The letter from Mr. [1497] was certainly nice. I knew through Mr. [1151] that he had a wonderful experience during the reading [1497-3] but not the nature of it. I hope both of these gentlemen keep their heads above water.”
R3. 4/21/38 He was present for his next reading - 1497-4, a Physical Reading.
R4. 4/25/38 EC’s letter to Mr. [1151]: “Had a few hours’ visit other day from Mr. [1497] and his wife [1498]. He appears well and seemed most pleased with the suggestions that had been given him from time to time.”
R5. 6/5/38 See 1497-5 regarding his new work.
