This Psychic Reading given by Edgar Cayce at his home on Arctic Crescent, Virginia Beach, Va., this 30th day of December, 1937, in accordance with request made by the self - Mrs. [1504], new Associate Member of the Ass”n for Research & Enlightenment, Inc., recommended by Miss [1402] and Dr. [1397].

Born June 12, 1889, in Moor Allerton, Leeds, England. Time of Reading 11:00 to 11:50 A. M. Eastern Standard Time. New York, N.Y. (Life Reading Suggestion)

1. EC: Yes, we have the records here of that entity now known as or called [1504].

2. In giving the interpretations as we find of those records here, and then these drawn as a parallel for the experiences of the entity in the immediate present:

3. Let that be considered as was given by Him, who is Life and the Light and the Way - to His disciples concerning the man born blind. “Who sinned, this man or his parents that he was born blind?” Let the answer as He gave be thy strength, yea thy knowledge in Him, “Neither this man NOR his parents but that the love of the Father might be NOW made manifest among the children of men.”

4. In this ye may find that which is the purpose, that which is the hope, that which is the faith necessary to remove the mountain of doubt, to bring the light of His countenance as thy directing influence and force in thy experiences day by day.

5. From the records here, we find that some of these are at variance to what would be called the purely mathematical or astrological reactions; yet there is indicated that because of the astrological aspects there is the affliction in the body.

6. These then are to be met in a manner that is commensurate with those very forces, influences or conditions in thine own experience that brought this weakness, this inclination. As under the law these are met. As under grace and mercy these are met in Him.

7. For as one soweth, so one reaps; else the very Divine would be mocked among the children of men.

8. Hence it is not by works alone but by grace and mercy, and the gift of the Father, that man comes to know His relationships with the things that are, that have been, and that may be in the experience of each soul in its journey through those environs, those phases of experience that bring the more and more awareness of the divine love as may be expressed, manifested in a MATERIAL world - as well as in the mental and the spiritual.

9. For indeed it is given to man to know. Even as His Prayer, “Thy will be done in the earth as it is in heaven” may become the very life blood of every soul if it will but harken to that still small voice within that answers to thy own good conscience as to whether or not ye be manifesting the God-like life; as to whether ye ARE the sons and daughters of God or as to whether ye be making manifest thy own desires, thy own indulgences, thy own self.

10. In the astrological aspects for this entity we find, then:

11. Jupiter - in affliction with Saturn.

12. Mercury, Venus - rather in the aspects for the more manifested activities in the mental AND material manifestations.

13. Hence, through love and through the mental abilities (that are high), through keeping those things that are of mercy and grace first and foremost in the experience, we find the entity is able - through the Jupiterian forces, that are afflictions at times - to bring the very understanding and knowledge of hope that may spring ever anew in the heart and soul of man.

14. For hope and faith are living - LIVING - things! Thus hope springs anew with the growth and the knowledge and the understanding of the light on the way, and that life indeed is an eternal expression of the love of the Father; and that as it gives the expression through the individuality of each and every soul as it comes in material manifestation by the weaknesses, we find the strength in the Lord - and in the glories ever in His beauteous purpose with each soul; that purpose that ye might be the companions, one with Him.

15. Then indeed may there be a glimpse of the love the Father hath shown to the children of men, through the very gift of Him, thy Brother, the Christ; that we may walk circumspectly one with another; and thus give, show forth, HIS activity in the earth till we be made as one with Him, in the glories that were His and that are as He has given for us. For we be joint heirs, as one with Him; not strangers, not aliens but joint heirs with the Christ to the kingdom of the Father - that is, that was, that ever shall be - even before the foundations of the earth were laid.

16. Hence we find to keep, to hold to those things as He gave in the beginning, “Subdue ye the earth - make ye then the laws thereof thy servants, not thy enemies,” - this is saying only “Sin not; for ye that know sin and have fallen short must meet these in thyself.” And only as He hath shown the way. Though He were in the world, He was not of the world; yet subject to the laws thereof, of materiality.

17. For His heart ached, yea His body was sore and weary; yea His body bled not only from the nail prints in His hands and feet but from the spear thrust into the heart of hearts! For the blood as of the perfect man was shed, not by reason of Himself but that there might be made an offering once for all; that then YE may know, ye in thine own self are not a burden to any.

18. For with thy mind, thy heart, ye may give much, much the more to those about thee in their ministry to thy physical weaknesses; that the very glory of Him may be manifested in their lives.

19. For if we do good only to those that would do good to us, what praise, what profit is there in same? For it was the unjustness of His trial, the persecutions of His body, that made the way for mankind, ye His brethren, ye thy own self, to HAVE and know the way that leads to “That peace I leave with thee; not as the world knoweth peace, but my peace I give,” in that:

20. Though ye be hindered, though ye be misunderstood, yea though ye be persecuted for those things that are not even thine own faults - how much greater is the manifestation of His glory for that which was a shortcoming in thee to be made right in ministering good unto others through the love He hath shown to thee?

21. As to the appearances of the entity in the earth, we find few - yet definite - in their influence in the experience of the entity, and in the abilities that may be the entity’s for manifestations in the present sojourn:

22. Before this we find the entity was in the Roman land, during those periods when there were persecutions of those who held to the tenet of the lowly Nazarene.

23. The entity was among those of the royalty, being closely associated with the activities of Nero - and of those that were in authority during the experience - in the persecutions by the beasts with which men fought.

24. And the entity LAUGHED at those who were crippled by such activities; and lo, they return again to thee!

25. How blest then art thou, that there are those close to thee that ye once laughed at; that are patient, that are kind, that are gentle with thee!

26. Then condemn not thyself. Rather know that ye are experiencing, ye are knowing that in thy activity as was first given - that ye may see the love of the Father manifested among the children of men!

27. And if there is held and kept, not an abaseness but an humbleness before Him, before thy Hope, yea before thy Father-God, there may come greater and greater manifestations; that ye may indeed know there IS a living God, and that He is mindful of the children of men!

28. Before that we find the entity was in the land of the ‘city in the hills and the plains’ when there was the building up to those peoples that had wandered, yea that found the materialities of life and the experiences in same becoming as the mandates of those about them in the Persian land.

29. The entity was first a scoffer. Then, with the teachings, the activities, yea the persecutions and the illnesses, the entity in its experience came to know the needs for the activities of one Uhjltd.

30. Thus the entity came to know those things pertaining to that great lesson which will be, is and must be a part of each soul in its manifestations in the earth - “He that would be the greatest among you is the servant of all;” ministering to the needs of those in body, in mind, in spirit, in such measures that there may be that coordinating, that unity of body, mind and soul in a service to their fellow man, their own selves in the beauty of the love of the Lord.

31. From the experience we find many of these things that have been a part of the entity’s present sojourn; in the likes of associations, in the likes of types of furniture, fixtures, music and song, painting and embroideries, hangings and draperies - that are as innate and find expression at times in the associations. These all arise from that experience when the entity was in the name Elsheu.

32. Before that we find the activities were in what is now called the Egyptian land, during the turmoils and the strifes that caused the banishment of the Priest, the uprising among the Natives and of the King’s own household.

33. The entity then was close to the elderly King, being of the own household of Arart; the entity being then in the name Arrmd.

34. In the experience the entity attempted to act as the peacemaker among all of those factions, and came to be within the mental self disliked by nearly all.

35. Only when there was again the reestablishment of the Priest, and the activities through the land, did the entity rise to its material position of supervisor of and counsellor to the women in the whole of the land.

36. And the entity then was an authority - as in today - concerning the conduct of groups, masses, classes; for this is a part of the innate and manifested experiences of the entity, when thought is taken.

37. As to the activities and the abilities in the present:

38. In these and through such channels may the entity give expressions of those tenets and lessons gained; not only in this experience but through the correlating of all those periods in which the activity gave an expression of self in one manner or another may the entity give in its writing, in its counsel to those of the younger generation.

39. For as in those experiences the entity taught, the entity experienced, the entity proclaimed again and again, upon the shoulders of the young rest the cares of life and of material things; whether it be possessions of the material nature or thought as pertaining to the moral, the economic or the spiritual welfare.

40. Hence the training of such for their activities in their varied fields become channels through which the entity may gain the more.

41. And in meeting the disturbances, look not upon those in the present as afflictions; rather as opportunities for self as well as for those about thee.

42. Use the low electrical forces that have been and are being advised and administered to the self.

43. Also, every third day, massage not only the lower limbs but from the 9th dorsal or the middle portion of the body downward, with pure Peanut Oil.

44. And on the opposite days massage the body with an equal combination of Olive Oil and Tincture of Myrrh; this massage gently but surely given - that is, general massage so that the body in all portions, even to the feet, absorbs all that it may.

45. Then WITH the gentle electrification, with the low forms of same, we may bring a NEW LIFE, a NEW energy to the very cells of the body itself.

46. Occasionally, at least three times a week, use the Radio-Active Appliance in conjunction with the other applications. Use for thirty minutes, circulating the attachments about the body in the manner as has been indicated for such; that is:

47. First time: The first attachment would be to the right wrist, the last to the left ankle.

48. Second time: The first attachment would be to the left wrist, the last to the right ankle.

49. Third time: The first attachment would be to the left ankle, the last to the right wrist.

50. Fourth time: The first attachment would be to the right ankle, the last to the left wrist.

51. In that way a circle is made of the entire body, you see. Then begin over again, continuing to alternate in the manner indicated. The first attachment becomes the positive, the last attachment the negative - see?

52. And during such a period - that is, during the thirty minutes the Appliance is used - let thy meditations be in this manner, but thine own words; letting these thoughts gradually grow, GROW:

53. FATHER-MOTHER GOD, HERE AM I - THY HANDMAID! WEAK, UNWORTHY THOUGH I MAY BE, I COME SEEKING DIVINE LIGHT, DIVINE GUIDANCE; BELIEVING THOU HEAREST THE PRAYERS OF THOSE THAT WOULD KNOW THY FACE! LEAD THOU, O LORD, THE WAY!

54. LET MY BODY, MY MIND, BE IN THIS EXPERIENCE A MANIFESTATION OF THE LOVE THOU HAST PROMISED TO THE CHILDREN OF MEN.

55. THEN USE MY ABILITIES, MY PURPOSES, MY DESIRES, IN THE WAY THOU SEEST, O LORD, THESE SHOULD GO.

R1. 12/30/37 GC’s conscious experience during Mrs. [1504]‘s reading:

“During the first part of the reading [1504-1], which was a wonderful explanation of conditions, I was thinking that the questions the individual had sent in were all being answered.

“I just seemed to be somewhere up high (unaware of being a person, just a ‘consciousness’), looking down on a most beautiful broad river, composed of bubbles; flowing - it seemed so smoothly and rhythmically, almost musically flowing; yet all the bubbles in a rush rolling by, around and over one another.

“Then I realized that the bubbles were PEOPLE; they finally reached a place where they burst and all seemed to be one, or go together.

“I thought, ‘It is the River of Life!’”

“At this point I realized that I must pay attention to the reading, though I was hearing every word being said at the same time.

“It was a wonderful feeling.”

R2. 1/3/38 EC’s letter (not dictated): ”…I don’t suppose there is much to say, until I know what reaction you have from the information attempted in your life reading. I just hope you will find that something that answers to something within you, just as so many others say they do. I trust, too, you will find the suggestions for physical relief in line with what is being done, and that, too, will bring results as it has in so many instances.

“Know we will be anxious to hear from you and to try and answer any question that may arise in your mind regarding the information.

“Thanking you, and sincerely hoping to have in some small measure to have been of a help…”

R3. 1/6/38 Letter: ”…This is to thank you from the bottom of our hearts for the Reading. You don’t know what it is doing for us. This happens to be a very troubled moment, and that crystal-pure well of thought is holding us together.

“I shall write to you in detail a little later when this material fog has evaporated and I can think it all through. Already it has become a part of us - my husband and me. We hope that you may give him a Life Reading before long.

“With DEEP and REAL gratitude…”

R4. 1/12/38 EC’s reply (not dictated): ”…Thank you. Just know we are glad to try to help at any time. If there are any questions about what was given, please don’t hesitate to ask. Having had many hundreds of these may enable us to have a bit of insight in some of the questions that might arise in your mind.

“All the praise to God, and the Blessings to you and yours.

“May Grace, Mercy and Truth keep you, ever…”

R5. 1/27/38 Letter: ”…Now that I have a little perspective on the Reading, I want to write to you about it.

“Let us begin with the physical. This has done what I hoped so much that it would NOT: (a) a long course of treatment is prescribed, very much along lines which have so far, after a long trial, been unsuccessful. (b) no definite idea of the measure of recovery is given, or of the time that would be required for such recovery as might be achieved.

“I am beginning to use the electric appliance, and to be massaged three times a week. It happens that massage tires me very badly, and I can’t stand as much as is prescribed - at any rate at present.

“The Past: This knowledge is really helpful in explaining one’s urges and efforts and failures, and in giving that sense of continuity that, to me, is such a spiritual essential. It explains logically one’s failures and small successes, slipping them into their places as useful and necessary cobblestones in the Road of Truth.

“The Spiritual Admonitions confirm one’s sure knowledge of the laws of cause and effect. They utilize almost uncannily many of my favorite bits of the Gospels and Epistles. They re-iterate lessons that need to be lived as well as learned. They encourage one to find still more meaning in the familiar words. They do not, so far, reconcile the age-old enemies, reason and intuition.

“I suppose that being born under the sign of Gemini gives a natural disposition to see both sides of a question, fostered by being one of a family of lawyers, and further strengthened by a natural and cultivated preference for the impersonal rather than the personal view-point. Or, to particularize, I always seem to have two parallel ideas in my head - the idea that the physical trouble MUST be only temporary, and the unwilling conclusion, drawn from my own experience and that of others, that it is permanent. (This applies far more generally than just to one’s own problems). And the lines of thought go on side by side without influencing each other.

“The whole spirit of the Reading is tremendous - it is so obviously not from this physical plane, and I do most humbly realize and appreciate the privilege of being allowed to participate in so wonderful an experience.

“I am going to try to answer the questions in the December Bulletin, which I have just received - also I will send along what clippings I can. (Questionnaire and request for pertinent clippings, etc.).

“Some of your inner circle are probably interested in the Zenith Radio program, Sunday at 10 P.M., EST, over WEAF, I THINK, which follows up in a popular way the J. B. Rhine book referred to in the Bulletin.

“Bit by bit we want to get Life Readings for my husband and the children. He is being put through strange paces at present, and we can’t see the connection.

“In the meanwhile, my deep thanks for all that you are doing…”

R6. 2/1/38 EC’s reply (not dictated): ”…Thank you for yours of the 27th, and the beautiful way you have expressed yourself about the readings. Now I hope I do not become too long-winded or tiresome in trying to answer you, so bear with me a moment and try to take this as it is meant.

“Now for the physical reading - the existent conditions are the effect of long-submerged hindrances that at last found expression in a way that requires you to depend upon others, the thing mentally that you hated, and as the Psalmist said ‘that which I hated has come upon me’. As it has been a growth, and the Mind is the builder, so to come out of it it also must be a growth. Would a momentary healing bring the lesson that is to be learned? ‘In patience ye possess your souls’ said the Great Teacher, and that lesson we all must learn. To know that you are on the right path, and work at it, and see the help and aid come, well - isn’t that the real way? For, ‘tho He were the Son, yet learned He obedience through the things which he suffered’. So, keep posted as to progress and keep a purpose - not only be good but good FOR something - and you will find help coming by leaps and bounds. All healing must come from the God-force within each of us, no matter what form may be used. It is the arousing of the God principal within that brings the help, and the consciousness of its presence is what brings the help. Is the appliance used proper? Is the massage correct? These are questions that you will be able to answer within yourself. Don’t give up hope and say it is the same old thing and doesn’t help. Oft it is the last strain that gets one safely over the hill of doubt, and then we view the peace of the Valley before us.

”…Knowledge was the first sin of man. It is the choice and what one does about the knowledge that brings weal or woe. ‘Now we know in part’ and now you know in truth, so it is up to you to use that in hand to undo much that you at one time builded. Doesn’t it show the Mercy of a loving Heavenly Father that one can, and may be shown just what is to be done?

“It is the living of the things of the spirit that brings the beauty in one’s experience. We can only sow the seed, but we may be sure God in His own way will bring the results in our experience. We are all shown that the results do really come to our own knowledge, and we must give credit where credit is due for it is not of ourselves but the spirit of truth that worketh in and through us. Only when we see it is the seed we have sown do we realize the age old thought of reason vs. intuition, or environ-heredity. Each works upon and with the influences of our souls - the interbetween or astrological, as we call them, upon the intuitive forces; the appearances, upon the emotions of the mental self.

“Possibly I am making way for many many questions in your very active mind. To be sure, could we just talk this all over it would be much better; but I hope I have not been too long, or tiresome.

“The physical is always temporary. We can, and do, change very rapidly when we change our way of thinking for ‘Mind is the builder’.

“We would appreciate your answer to the questions in the Bulletin, and any suggestions you may have as to the type of information you would like to see in same. To make them worthwhile is the purpose, so to answer the questions that arise must be part of that purpose.

“The Zenith Program is very good, but does it seek the good for good’s sake, or the spectacular for entertainment?

“I would like very much to see the Life Reading for your husband, especially from what has been intimated in yours about him. He must be a very lovely soul and a wonderful man. Just doing his bit to make the world a better place to live in, hence a great soul.

“All praise to the Great God of Hope and faith. I am a poor weakling in the flesh, but directed by Him MAY be a power for good. That is my purpose, so praise to HIM.

“Thank you again and again for your letter. May the blessings of a loving Father keep you and yours…”

R7. 5/7/38 Letter: ”…You should have had a letter ‘ere this, but the more I studied that Life Reading, the more there seemed to be that needed elucidation, and I decided that it would be better to put off the letter until I had had the opportunity of going through it with your son, Hugh Lynn.

“He was kind enough to come up the other day, and I can’t tell you how much he helped. There is a certain technique about the interpretations of these readings, it seems, and if one is not accustomed to them certain slants just don’t register.

“That interview did a good deal towards changing my approach to many problems, because it brought out the fact that the paralysis is NOT a Karmic condition, and therefore susceptible of repair. I had always taken it for granted that it was something that I had rated somewhere along the line, and that it was just therefore one of those uncomfortable circumstances that had to be accepted and made the best of - and yet one bit of me always refused to give up hope.

“The second matter of interest was that you and I seem to have met a couple of times before in our journeys through time and space. Hugh Lynn says that there is a good deal of uncorrelated material on some of those prehistoric periods, and suggested that I might make some attempt to classify it. It would be a grand thing to do, and I would like to try it, even though I may not be experienced enough to make much head-way.

“The more that I have gone into that Life Reading, the more helpful I have found the mental and spiritual part, and the less and less satisfying the physical part. I feel increasingly convinced that if there is to be any recovery, the cure will be instantaneous and bordering on the miraculous. This Summer seems to be the time, if there is a time. Of course nothing happens instantaneously that has not been prepared, and Hugh Lynn says that the instructions might be just that; but the paralysis is untouched and general health conditions less good than before I began the treatments outlined. I don’t think they are the thing that will be of real use. Massage always wears me out, the swelling around feet and ankles is so pronounced that the oils scarcely are absorbed, and I don’t think the weak electric current has much chance of circulating. Using the battery usually makes me wakeful, and the swelling increases with massage. I talked the matter over with Dr. Miller, who realizes that I have an involuntarily negative reception to all treatments, medications, etc., and she agrees that this type of thing which, with minor variations is the same thing that I have been using for years, is not going to do much. It might eventually, but the course of the cure would be interrupted by the death of the patient from senile decay!

“At the moment we are rather at a cross-roads, but in a week or two we ought to know more definitely what we may expect from the future, and when the financial situation seems to be a little clearer I do want to have a Physical Reading and ask some very definite questions in the hope of getting a really definite reply. My husband is also anxious to have a Life Reading, and in time we should like to have one for the children.

“My husband and I would like so much to be at Virginia Beach for at any rate a part of the Conference, but that decision will also have to wait for a little while.

“I am so glad to hear that things seem to be going along pretty well with you. Please do take care of yourself, and realize that you are a kind of Public Trust!…”

R8. 5/10/38 EC’s reply (not dictated): ”…I am sure you must feel about the Life Reading and Hugh Lynn’s explanation somewhat like another lady expressed it - ‘You should send Hugh Lynn with the Life Reading, then they will mean much more to every one’. I know this is true to a great extent, for he has made a special study of the information in life readings for a number of years. In fact, while in college he undertook to disprove the life readings altogether (and had help in this that was even more rabid on them than he) and they proved to themselves there was much to be gained by such information. Thus I feel he is particularly fitted to help one with such a reading.

“Now for the physical: I am sorry to hear you are not getting the results we feel we had a right to expect from the information. I think it would be well for you to get Dr. Miller to make a list of specific questions on this, and let’s see what we can find. If it were possible I wish you might be present when this is undertaken this time. Maybe it is just as helpful at a distance, but I have always held that where it is possible, every reading of every nature the individual should be present. Then questions that arise in their minds can be met at once. There is a difference - why I cannot just say - but I am quite sure it is much better for a body to be present wherever possible.

“It certainly would be lovely to have you go over the material we have here. Won’t it be possible for you to spend some time here at the Beach this summer? If that could be, why how lovely to have you correlate the information on hand, and I think you would find something worthwhile.

“Anyway, let’s make the arrangements for the check-up. I do certainly wish to see you getting help…”

R9. 6/20/38 Letter: ”…I want so much to have a Physical Reading, and my husband would love to have a Life Reading. Just at the moment we are a bit tied up financially, and don’t feel justified in having them. When the financial atmosphere is clear again, and I hope it may not be too long delayed, we want to ask you to be kind enough to give them.

”…We hope to [can] go to …, N.H. for a bit. …Some country air and quiet will be balm in … Whilst there I would very much like to start working on the Records that Hugh Lynn said needed to be sorted and correlated. If you would entrust them to me, I would do my best to do what you wanted with them; but I am an amateur, as you know. I am wondering whether you would like to give any material to Miss [1402] to bring back to New York, rather than entrust it to the Mails…

“I do hope that the Conference will do all that you hope it will; and, selfishly, I still hope for a last minute chance of attending it…”

R10. 6/23/38 EC’s reply (not dictated): ”…Mighty sorry that you can’t make it to our meeting this weekend, but do hope you will be able to make a visit here this summer. Of course, I am sure Dr. [1397] and Miss [1402] will be able to give you a good word picture of the happenings here - but not like your being present.

“Know that we will be glad to arrange the reading for yourself and also for your husband at any time we can.

“I will speak to Hugh Lynn and am sure if he has the time he will get the data together and send up by Miss [1402] or Dr. [1397]. It is very lovely of you to undertake this and I am very sure it will be in excellent hands…”

R11. 7/9/38 Letter: ”…This is just to give you my present address, so that you may send the material for me to work on, if you feel that you could trust me to try my hand at it. The sooner the better!

“We only had a very short account of the Conference…but it must have been marvelous. Next year we MUST be there…”

R12. 7/12/38 HLC’s letter: ”…I have just finished reading over the information secured for you in your Life Reading. I know how much the delay must have bothered you. I hope you will pardon me this time. The rush of the Congress brought many details that required my attention.

“Even now the material I am sending you is far from complete but it will furnish you something to begin on.

“From your reading I notice that you have special ability mentioned in two directions ‘an authority concerning the conduct of groups, masses, classes…’ and ‘may the entity give in its writing, in its counsel to those of the younger generation.’

“One of the papers sent you contains some extracts on child training. We have considerable information on such subjects in the readings of young children. Unfortunately I do not have immediately available copies of any young children’s readings, but I am enclosing copies on some young people.

“As you go over this material other ideas may occur to you but here are a couple that you might consider:

1. We have several people in our Association who are greatly concerned over the general subject of child training. The Life Readings offer some fine advice on this subject in individual cases. A group of individuals comparing notes, studying the material we have on hand and then preparing a series of questions for research readings on this subject might be able to produce some material for a booklet, magazine articles, etc., that might prove most helpful. Or such material might well be prepared to use with children in small groups to good advantage.

2. From your individual studies alone might come some material for a booklet or a magazine article or two on the subject of vocational guidance - from the Life Reading point of view, bringing out real talents rather than surface interests, or possibly you could prepare yourself to do what is so needed - explain Life Readings to young people who could be sent to see you.

“As to your instructions - I happen to have had some rather specific ones lately, which did not emanate from this plane, and I know that they must be obeyed; which makes one especially glad to cooperate.

“I do hope that the Readings are coming through with more clarity. When ‘two or three are gathered together’ during their initial stage the end results should be more helpful than ever.

“Please don’t trouble to answer this. I know what calls there are on your time and strength.

“By the way, should anyone need one of those little low-power electric machines that you sometimes recommend, I should be very glad to sell mine and give the money to the A.R.E. R20. 12/6/38 Letter: ”…We are so sorry that we can’t be at the Meeting tonight. My husband gives two lectures on Tuesday afternoon and evening which makes it impossible to do other things that day. I do hope it is going well and that you are having a good discussion, and I hope that we may get together for a few minutes even though it’s only on the telephone.

“I am so much better that it’s almost unbelievable! Really quite thrilling.

“I listened to the Broadcast on Sunday and thought it was extremely well done. This is just one person’s opinion and doesn’t count for much, but a psychic broadcast is - well, it just goes against the grain a bit. I think I almost preferred the Zenith programmes which were frankly commercial! That goes for the type of broadcast in general

• it doesn’t seem that we’re QUITE ready for the real thing yet, and that what can be told isn’t specially constructive.

“As to Sunday’s broadcast - I imagine that you wanted people to go away with an open mind, though it seemed actually to be inconclusive. The first and third examples, I am sure, had we just been talking in a small group, would have been accounted for by fourth and fifth dimensional time. Would the second example help anyone to a belief in a spiritual plane that is - well - we know a little bit what it is: or would it confirm an innate fear of spooks? The telephone rang during the dynamite case and I missed about 2 minutes, so I ought really not to say anything about it.

“I think it boils down to what is possibly a strictly British prejudice - namely, a feeling that psychic things must be sought out to be of real service, and not just handed around. I’m quite open to conviction that I’m all wrong, but since you asked for expressions of opinion, here is one!…”

Edgar Cayce, according to the reading, was of the opinion that she could have been healed. To the best of my knowledge, she did not follow through with his advice and told me later that he had given her nothing more helpful than that she was paying off a karmic debt. B2. 12/6/37 Letter: ”…I was so glad to talk with you on the telephone yesterday. As you recommend, I should very much like to have a Life Reading, at your convenience.

“Instead of giving you a definite list of questions, may I suggest some of the things I should like to know?

“In September 1925 I had Polio Encephalitis, and have not walked since. It has taken a steady toll of general health, nerves and vitality. I am interested to know what led up to this particular Karma.

“Also I should like to know whether the things that I am to do will be worked out within the present physical limitations, or whether it is possible to look for a release from them.

“My life is now organized to minimize the inconvenience of the physical handicap, but I feel that I could be less of a burden to my husband, and of more use to him and the children if I were not so completely dependent on my husband for transportation. (It is almost impossible for me to go anywhere in the City without him.)

“We have expended - perforce - a great deal of time, thought, energy and money in trying to overcome the paralysis, so far without result, and I should feel inclined to weigh very carefully further supplies of these commodities that would have to be spent against the probable measure of improvement, and the time involved in its materialization.

“For the last 18 months I have had daily Etheronic treatments. I believe that there is now a better foundation for improvement and a slightly better prognosis, but no visible improvement has as yet resulted.

“I wonder whether my future work is at all tied up with any of the new diagnostic and healing machines built on the RAY principle? “I feel increasingly that there must be some mental and spiritual block that must be removed before much physical progress can be made…”

B3. 12/9/37 EC’s reply (not dictated): ”…Yours of the 6th came yesterday. We had just arrived home. It was a very pleasant stay in New York and one feels loathe to leave when one might be of help; but being still in a material world, we have our limitations as to physical endurance.

“Was very happy to meet you, Mrs. [1504], and sincerely hope we may find something that will give you an unfoldment that will be most beneficial. Would that it might have been possible for you to have heard first hand the information that may be given, for there is a something in the spoken word that we do not see or feel when written in type. But do hope that with a careful study and meditation upon what may be given there may be an awareness within that will be most helpful. The help is always within ones own self, for until it is our own experience, is it our own at all?

“While you have given me full information in your letter, we will ask please that you put it on the blank enclosed, for our files. This will be in keeping with our regulations. I am making the appointment for the afternoon of December 17th, 3:30 to 4:30, EST. We hope you will keep that period with us, as is suggested on page 14 of our Association Booklet. In case you don’t have this, I am sending a copy under separate cover. I came home with several appointments, and have to list them as received. Hope the little delay will be all O.K., but I know when one has decided they wish a reading, it is wanted now.
