1. EC: Yes, we have the body, [1515].

2. Now as we find, many conditions are to be taken into consideration; the adverse feelings of the body and the activities of the body.

3. To attempt to make for material applications direct would cause such a disturbance as to become a very detrimental influence, owing to the very nature of the disturbance.

4. Hence those whose anxiety prompts the activities in this direction should be very mindful that only the highest constructive, spiritual influences are made materially manifest in the dealing with the conditions surrounding this body.

5. Hence, only suggestion of a constructive nature; and not overindulgence nor of the nature of such anxiety as to bring resentment by the body in respect its physical condition.

6. Hence, silent prayer; that the influences, the environs may be such that [1515] may complete the purposes for his entrance into this experience in service to his fellow man, in the way that divine guidance may choose for him at this time.

7. If such an attitude is held, if such an attitude is manifested in the conversation, in the dealings with the body, then there may be created that environ - by the very nature of GOOD in its every form held as respecting the body - to bring the better mental, physical and spiritual environment for the body.

8. That then may accomplish much more than in any attempt to influence or direct the mental activities in channels of force that are adverse forces for the body.

Dear Mrs. […]:

It is very unusual for a Physical Reading through Mr. Cayce to make ONLY the suggestion for prayer. Usually such specific directions are indicated for modes of treatment. However, I’m sure in this particular case - from that given - that the greater influence upon your husband to DO those things necessary may come from an unseen source.

Thus I am moved to tell you about our Glad Helpers group in Norfolk; a group composed of individuals who devote about two hours a day in prayer and meditation for those who seek such help through them as merely the channels. Dr. Hardwicke will remember meeting some of the individuals in this group, and hearing their experiences when he was here last summer.

Since such a great burden (if you look at it in that manner) is put upon you to hold the right attitude and try to help your husband from the unseen instead of being outwardly anxious and solicitous, I feel that perhaps you would be glad to have our group join in praying with you for the Father’s will to be done through your husband - and that you may be given strength to do your part in bringing this about. I’m sure this group would be glad to help in this manner, and I will submit your name and your husband’s - asking their help in your problem - as soon as I hear from you, if you wish it so.

I am looking forward with a great deal of pleasure to seeing you again in New York…and hope that Hugh Lynn’s plans for a New York office work out.

Would appreciate it if you would check and see that Mrs. […] [[1515]‘s wife] has received notice of her membership and a full explanation of the fact that the patient did not ask for the reading…and that therefore the results were just what you would expect.

I would like your comments on the Psychic News Clip Letter. It represents quite an effort and all suggestions are gratefully received.

R4. 1/25/38 HLC’s letter to Dr. Hardwicke:

Dr. Henry Hardwicke 494 Hudson Street, New York City

Dear Dr. Hardwicke:

The only way that seems open for more definite information on the [1515] case is to interest the individual himself in the readings so that a definite and personal attunement may be made. It is possible that he might be interested in any of our case reports?

More and more we are finding that the individual approach and interest is most important in securing really helpful information.

Like the News Clip Letter very much. Am sure you will do a great deal of good with it and it is certainly in keeping with your reading. Just in passing do you not consider it wise to stick as close as possible to comparisons of the points of similarity rather than differences in various psychics work and also books, talks, etc. Miss Moore loves a good scrap, but in the long run arguments and fights only bring more disturbance within and without. Best wishes for a successful growth. It should have wide appeal.

Certainly appreciate your efforts on the Radio-Actives. Let us have reports whenever you can.

B1. 12/26/37 Wife’s letter: “My husband, who is a physician, has been ill for the past four and a half months with a heart condition which we are told is not organic but is due to some focus of infection. Fourteen of the best doctors in N.Y. and Baltimore have been trying to find out what that focus is but so far have been unsuccessful… He has no faith whatsoever in anything psychic…”

B2. 12/28/37 EC’s letter to Mrs. […]:

Dear Mrs. […]:-

Have your good letter of 26th, sincerely hope may be of some service, you realizing the handicaps that we are under, should also take this one in to consideration. Should there be offered help, and it of a nature that it would be impossible for you to have it carried out (the suggestions) would that make it worse for you or not?

Please read the data sending under separate cover, then if you wish to have me try, (can only say; Father God, when they ask I will try, for the help that has come to me among my own family, in appreciation of that, and in that Faith, for others, I will try).

Believe under the circumstances Mrs. […], the home address, would be the better (who knows the prayers of a wife may save a husband) and I don’t think I am using that as an excuse, having seen it work, am impelled to believe it may work again.

B3. 12/31/37 Wife’s letter: “On the days when my husband is able to be up he is attending to this consultations and teaching at the … medical school. There is no way of knowing when his attacks will come on nor how long they will last - sometimes an hour or two and at other times as long as thirty-six hours… The only time that I can be practically certain that he will be at home and in bed is between the hours of midnight and six in the morning… I know this is asking a great deal of you but I honestly believe this to be an emergency case, not only because of his physical condition but because of the highly nervous and overwrought state he is in during an attack - he has been threatening suicide.”
