This psychic reading given by Edgar Cayce at the office of the Association, Arctic Crescent, Virginia Beach, Va., this 22nd day of August, 1943, in accordance with request made by the self, through mother - Mrs. [2470], Associate Member of the Ass”n for Research & Enlightenment, Inc.

Born December 1, 1925, Norfolk, Va. Time of Reading 4:00 to 4:40 P. M. Eastern War Time. …, Va.

1. GC: You will give the relations of this entity and the universe, and the universal forces; giving the conditions which are as personalities, latent and exhibited in the present life; also the former appearances in the earth plane; giving time, place and the name, and that in each life which built or retarded the development for the entity; giving the abilities of the present entity, that to which it may attain, and how. You will answer the questions, as I ask them:

2. EC: (In going back over the years - ” - ‘38 in unfolding experiences, new environs - ‘37 - ” - etc., on back to birth date.)

3. Yes, we have the records here of that entity now known as [1519].

4. In giving an interpretation of the records as we find them here, there is much from which to choose. But these we would give with the intent and purpose that this information may be a helpful experience for the entity; enabling the entity to better fulfill the purposes for which it entered this present sojourn.

5. Then, it is not by chance that the entity came into the environs in which it finds itself, even though at times it does rebel against the influences about it. Yet these very influences are a part of the experience that ye may better fulfill those things needed to advance in the spiritual evolution or understanding needed in this material experience for the greater success, spiritually, mentally and materially.

6. This in itself then indicates the requirement that the entity analyze its own purposes, its own ideals. Know that those ideals must be in response to that which may be held within, innately though it may be, as the answer to every purpose, to every application of self; though it may indeed at times appear only as rote.

7. In regard to the abilities of the entity, we would magnify the virtues and minimize the faults. These should be the basic principles of the entity itself in analyzing conditions, opportunities, possibilities that will and do arise in the experience of the entity.

8. As the entity itself may experience, there are oft those periods of questioning in self, of choices that are to be made in preparation for the business of giving expression to a physically normal body, mind and soul. These as we find will not always be easy, owing to the necessities as may arise in regard to the body keeping itself physically fit. But as indicated in Mercury and Jupiter, in the earth sign as well as in the astrological environments of which the entity has been a part, keep to those things necessary for making the body indeed a temple of the living forces that are manifested through the voice of self within self, as to the emotions of the body in its relationships to others.

9. And apply self in the material plane in those directions of preparing self as a writer as an interpreter of the experiences of others; whether this is to be done in the use of the abilities as the reporter or the short story writer or the compromising of volumes upon the mental, the moral and the spiritual law in a material world.

10. The entity will find if these things are taken into consideration there will be the answer one to and toward another. For, as may be indicated from Mercury the high mental abilities of the entity and those influences in Jupiter are at times in opposition in the earth sign. But these are tendencies, not necessarily those reactions or the outcome of the true application of self. For, the individual ofttimes finds, as it applies itself in activities related with groups and individuals, that what is often said and done is a part of the entity, but arises not from the material or mental-material disturbances through the activities of the body.

11. Thus the influences in Jupiter make for the universal consciousness, but as in the very early periods of this experience, other combinations of purposes from other material sojourns in the earth are to be studied. Use them not to the satisfaction of self alone but in applying the abilities as a writer, as in application of the material things and spiritual influences in the life; that you may indeed fill the better part of your experience in this particular sojourn as one making preparations for ideas or purposes set forth by individual groups, or those to whom and through whom there may come the various spheres of activity.

12. In Saturn we find the greater number of changes that may be a part of the entity. Hence, though the entity comes close to those periods of conflict among the nations of the earth these will not be in that position of causing too great an anxiety - if there is application of self in those ways such that you consciously walk close to that which is indeed thy spiritual self in the earth. This is the purpose for which the Creative Forces gives the opportunity through which there may be the completing of the law, the greater activity in which the entity may apply itself towards bringing into the experiences of others those things that are creative in themselves.

13. As to the appearances, these have been quite varied; though at times a pattern may be seen throughout the various sojourns in the physical being of the self.

14. Before this the entity was in the earth during the period of the American Revolution, and the entity acted oft in the capacity, of the exchanger of words, in those experiences in which there was the saving of the lives of many individuals.

15. So may the application of self at the present bring those periods when the entity may itself be as a crutch upon which many, may lean for those activities of the nature that may enable them as individuals to become more mindful of things and conditions that are of the creative manifestations in the earth.

16. For the criterion to which the entity should apply itself would be:

17. HERE AM I, LORD! USE ME AS THOU SEEST WHERE AND WHEN I MAY SERVE THE PURPOSE FOR WHICH I ENTERED THE MATERIAL EXPERIENCE, IN THE BETTER WAY POSSIBLE.

18. While all of the sojourns in the earth may not be indicated, these that brought periods of great activities are indicated.

19. The entity in that period acted as the courier, the messenger, or in that capacity of keeping one portion of the active service in communication with the other portion.

20. Then the name was Clifton Darby.

21. In the present we find that the abilities of the entity as the correspondent, as the writer, as the gatherer of data of various experiences, may bring one section of a nation, one group or period of peoples, into relationships with others, for the betterment of the whole. These then offer the channels through which the activities may bring the greater outlook for the entity in the present. Prepare self for same, in body, in mind, and in purpose; knowing that the purpose of each soul’s manifestation in the earth is not to the gratifying of self nor for the purely material gains, but to magnify the glory of that which is thy ideal in the earth.

22. Before that the entity was in the English land, when there were those periods of the divisions between the common people and those of the church, when there were those activities that caused a revolution through the land.

23. The entity again acted in those capacities of keeping the various sections in communication with that being carried on in other parts of the land.

24. The name then was Irving Caskawell. The entity became a power for an ideal of freedom of speech, freedom from the bonds or the caprices of men, of those set in authority in various places. This is the basis of much that at times prevents the entity in the present from accepting certain secular laws that pertain to the church, or those things that would foregather with activities in same.

25. In that experience gains were made, but some were used for selfish motives. These became in a portion of the experience stumbling blocks. It is well indeed that an individual be broad-minded, but one may be so broad as to at times as to cause even the purpose for which it has endeavored in certain directions to be overlooked.

26. Know thy ideal and keep the purpose.

27. Before that the entity was in the Grecian land when there were periods of expansion. The entity was close to those in authority that had the ideas of the character of expansion that should become a part of the experience of those peoples.

28. The entity was an acquaintance of Xenophon, and in charge of those peoples in varied portions of the expansions made.

29. Thus the entity came in contact with the people in the Arabian and Persian experience of the attempted Grecian expansion. Thus the attempt to recall the first group of individuals sent out by the Grecians to that land.

30. The ideas of being subtle in its manner, of keeping its own council at times - though it may be the variance to others, to some it may appear as just acting one thing when it’s indeed another. Not so meant by the entity, but it’s well that the entity in the present declare self when such urges arise. Be sure you are right, then look the world in the face and tell others where to go, but keep thine own council if ye are sure in self.

31. The name then was Xeoniba.

32. Before that the entity was in the Egyptian land when there were changes wrought through the rebellions in the land, the entrance of the Atlanteans and the recall of the Priest.

33. Again the entity was in the capacity of the statistician or the data gatherer for the various groups, not only for the activities of the Priest but the King and the King’s councillors.

34. In the present the entity’s abilities will be manifested in the choosing of its own mode of activity, the abilities to make associations in any clime or in any status of political or social activity; yet choosing its own manner or association to same.

35. Thus the abilities in those special offices in the present, in which the ordinary writer may control the thought of a great many individuals.

36. The entity then was of the offspring of the early associations of Atlanteans and Egyptians; passing through the early experiences in the Temple of Sacrifice, shunning much of the experiences in the Temple Beautiful and yet adopting in its usages among the varied groups.

37. Thus the entity will take an education; he will find an education in travel, in associations, in activities in whatever field he may be sent.

38. Then keep that purpose.

39. As to the abilities of the entity, and that which it may obtain and how:

40. First, analyze thine own self. For, thy body is indeed the temple of the living God. There He has promised to meet thee. And ye must make thine own decisions. Let them not be too broad, let them not be too narrow. For there is a way that seemeth right unto a man, but the end is death.

41. There is a way that leads to light, to freedom, to activity; it is the way of the Cross.

42. These ye may find as ye seek. These ye may use in thy daily life.

43. In the field of service as a writer, as a reporter, as a gatherer of data, as a representative of groups, the entity may find the outlet for the greater service in this experience.

44. But first find self.

45. Ready for questions.

46. (Q) Should I return to military school, or is it best to try to get in the Naval Officers Procurement School? (A) We would return to school.

47. (Q) What type of work should I attempt to do? If I am drafter? (A) Personnel work.

48. (Q) What have been my past relationships with the entity now known as […]? Should I make plans for a future with her? (A) These would be well, if the principles of the relationships to Creative Forces are in balance. DON’T go against thy own faith.

49. (Q) What have been my past relationships with my mother, [2470]? (A) These have been more than once. These have been questioned in self. These have been for and against. You better listen to her counsel.

50. (Q) With my father, [556]? (A) In the English land these were close together. They fought together, with each other, and for others. In the Egyptian land these were close, but at odds one with another at times. Watch and pray.

R1. 8/23/43 Mother’s letter:

Mr. Edgar Cayce Arctic Crescent Virginia Beach, Va.

Dear Mr. Cayce,

Gladys tells me that your mail averages around 50 letters a day and it is hardly fair for me to add one more reading to your already over taxed day. I can’t help feeling that for so long a time we have been interested in things in common that I could not help this brief comment on [1519]‘s reading of yesterday. It meant so much to all of us and especially to [1519]. He said last night that up to this time all that he had heard about the readings, etc. had seemed to him a sort of nightmare but now to him it was a great mysterious truth. He said he was literally dumbfounded, first upon listening to the physical reading wherein so many scientific terms were recorded, then again in his own reading giving such concrete facts of history and hinting at so many things that he knew were hidded [hidden] in the recesses of his own mind.

He said it was such a surprise to him to learn of his destiny to be a writer, but, that has been the one obsessing desire of my life and I suppose that I was picking up the urges all along of his presence. [1519] said that last year, while he was in school, many times when he would be alone, things would come to his mind that were far beyond his understanding and he would feel the urge to write them down but would just neglect to do so at the time. But now, he says when such things come to him, he will write them.

The reading helped me so much personally, inasmuch as it will help me to free [1519] more in my thoughts, thereby enabling him to give fuller expression on account I have always held him so close to me and now I am trying to realize that this has been and is selfish. I think if and when I can get a reading for myself, it will help me a great deal more in this business of freeing him from my life, in order that he may make a more complete expression in his life, now he will be able to know that we have been together before and that we will be again and it will be easier.

R2. 4/12/64 Mother [2470]‘s letter: “No, he does not write in the sense I take that you mean as a career. He is a ‘mechanical engineer.’ Four or five years ago his wife fell in love with another and asked him to give her a divorce. He finally did and was so broken in spirit, and I was terribly hurt on account of the 2 boys (twins). He was then electrical engineer for the … air station and the … T.V. Co. in Chicago was trying to get him to come with them, so he and I decided it would be best… They were preparing a ‘closed TV circuit’ for the … show in …, Nev. and asked if he would come, which he did and at the end decided to remain here with the government… He loves it and has many friends here. He is a deacon in the … church and in the Exec. Dept. of Boy Scouts and he speaks and writes beautifully. I still have hopes he does the lecturing he came in to do. Perhaps that will be when I’ve left this plane. His second marriage is far from ideal. He has a lovely girl to look at, and sweet mannered, but takes on undesirable tantrums which is a deter to him, but all that he will need to work out. He has a lovely ranch home here.”

Dear Mr. Cayce:

For several years I have looked forward to having a life reading for [1519] and now seems to be the opportune time if it would be possible for you to give him an appointment. At this time I am very much perplexed as to just what course to pursue and I remember several years ago hearing Mr. Kahn tell his life story and of how his reading led all his ways. As you know, [1519] has been going to Kentucky Military Institute for the past year and at the end of his first school year, this year, he was made a non-commissioned officer. He made 98 on English and 98 on military tactics and I received a letter from Colonel Richmond saying that they were not accepting boys this year who would be 18 before February unless they were seniors. But on account of [1519]‘s splendid record this past year, they would not only accept his return but desired that he return. He will be 18 December 1 and, of course, would return to school on September 1.

I want to get information on how to proceed; should I send him back to K.M.I. or not? Out of the clear sky the other day, when we were planning his course in school for next year which the school requires at this time, he flatly turned down a suggestion that I made and told me of his plan and what his life’s work was ahead of him which would take him into another country. I refrain from telling you the story here as interesting as it is because I know you would not want me to. I believe he is reading it perhaps from the last incarnation; I want it confirmed by a reading. I am wondering if you will have any time available for a reading as I know you must be very busy. Many people must be seeking advise [advice] in times so perilous as these. We think of you many, many times.
