GC: You will give the physical condition of this body at the present time, with suggestions for further corrective measures; answering the questions, as I ask them:
-
EC: Yes, we have the body here, [1539]; this we have had before.
-
Now as we find, conditions are very much changed from that as we have had here before. Some of the acute conditions might have been avoided, or the whole of the disturbance avoided, if there had been the application wholly (or consistently) of those conditions which we suggested for the revitalization of the body, especially.
-
For, as we find in the present, the disturbances with the activities of the lower hepatic circulation - especially in the bladder, caused more from the disturbance in the prostate area - might have been eliminated.
-
In the present, as we find, these would be the better manners for eliminating these disturbances:
-
First, we would use the Elliott Machine, consistently; using the appliance for prostate disorders, with this raising of the temperature through the area by the heat applications in the prostate. This will require a little time, but will be much easier than operative forces, and MUCH less dangerous in this becoming a malignant condition. These applications as we find, with the others we will suggest, will reduce these disturbances, eliminating the inclination for sediment and for the hardening of the areas about the emptying of the bladder itself, and reducing the irritation through the penis. The frequency of these applications will depend upon who makes them. As we find, the body should be able to get these in New York, as there are several there who give such treatments. One especially fitted for applying such is a relative of the Elliott who made or presented such a machine.
-
Also at first the body will need at least two or three thorough relaxations osteopathically, especially in those centers from which the activities of the lower kidney area receive their impulse from the cerebrospinal nerves and their relative plexus, - or from both the lumbar and sacral plexus, and the ileum, as well as from the 9th dorsal even to the 7th.
-
After the third or fourth application of the Elliott Machine, we would begin to take a small quantity of Watermelon Seed Tea about twice a week. Pour a pint of boiling water over about a teaspoonful of crushed watermelon seed and let steep as tea. This would be the proportion. Drink about two ounces of this twice a week.
-
These as we find would be the better manners for handling this condition.
-
In the matter of the diet, - keep away from any great quantity of fats. Use a great deal of those foods that will aid in the activities through the liver and hepatic circulation; leafy vegetables, with plenty of figs, dates, raisins and the like, and all of such natures, - but little sweets.
-
Ready for questions.
-
(Q) What should be done about the pain below heart? (A) We would remove these pressures, and the tendency for the gas, and the nerve pressures to arise from the disturbance in the area indicated. This will also cause better circulation through the lower extremities - for the osteopathic stimulation to the sacral and lumbar and ileum plexus will reduce those conditions which cause the coldness and clamminess of feet, producing a better superficial circulation throughout. [See 1539-3, Par. R1.]
Do that as indicated, then, and we will bring the better forces for this body of [1539].
- We are through for the present.

We used to know a Dr. I. Daniel Shorell in N.Y. who used the Elliott Machine, but we haven’t his address. Please let us have the name and address of one you locate using the Elliott Machine.)

Reports & Follow-up
R1. “My feet are cold a great deal of the time.”
R2. 12/30/39 Wire from D.C.: “Having trouble locating Elliott Machine. Can you recommend someone here?”
R3. 12/30/39 EC’s reply advised him to seek help from Dr. A. B. Baden, Ph.T., Hotel Fairfax, Washington, D.C., also Mr. Louis B. Poss, in locating the machine.
R4. 12/31/39 Wife, [1516]‘s letter:
Dear Mr. Casey [Cayce]
Mr. [1539] received the reading, we were very glad to get it so quickly. We are having a funny experience in getting started with the Elliott machine. We located your Dr. I. Daniel Shorell, office at 8 E. 64 Street, Telephone Regent 4-0714. Over the phone Dr. Shorell refused to take Mr. [1539] with out a ten dollar examination, Mr. [1539] finally got it across to him that he had had two examinations, so he gave him a treatment finally, it seems he knew about you and your work.
He went to Dr. Peppard, Osteopath [Harold M. Peppard, D.O.], he also knew about your work. Then we came to Washington and Mr. [1539] had an Osteopath treatment of a Dr. Swope [Chester D. Swope, D.O.], in the meantime we called the distributor of the Elliott Machine and they said it was not ethical to give any names, they referred us to the medical society, who gave us a list of names. Then Mr. [1539] went to a nephew of Dr. Swope, called Dr. Felix D. Swope, also an Osteopath, for another treatment, the reason for this change the younger man charges two dollars less than the older man.
Mr. [1539] showed him the list and he picked out a Dr. Rogers, [M.D.?] who did not have a machine, he explained that the list was not right and sent him to some one else. This next Doctor only treated women, he referred [1539] to another man who also had no machine. He called up another Doctor who Mr. [1539] went to see, he had a Rose machine, he claimed he had an Elliott machine and turned it in for the Rose machine. He made an examination and charged three dollars for that. Another treatment from Dr. Swope and he said he preferred the Elliott Machine. He then sent Mr. [1539] to a Doctor Reuter [M.D.?], he had the Elliott machine but would not take Mr. [1539] with out a fifty dollar examination. And even after the examination would only follow his own inclination, said he would not use the Elliott unless he felt it necessary.
He gave us the name of Dr. Fife Heath, 1833 Monroe N.E. We have an appointment with him for Monday. Some how or other I do not feel very good about Mr. [1539] going to the last man, so far Mr. [1539] has had five examinations, which hurt and make him very nervous, he is very lame, can hardly lift his left foot, I think it is the left side that is swollen the most. I called the Garfield Hospital and they said they had an Elliott machine but they were not using it any more that their Dr. Hildenbrand [M.D.?] was getting better results with the SHORT WAVE DIATHERMY.
There is where we are to date, both Mr. [1539] and I feel if you ordered the Elliott Machine that we should use it, but I think it too serious a thing not to have a good operator.
Sorry to bother you with this detail, but there seemed no other way to acquaint you with the progress we are making.
We will be at … St. N.W., Washington for a while.
A Happy New Year to you,
Yours Sincerely [1516]
P.S. The man at the Fairfax Hotel [A. B. Baden, PhT.] is not there any more and we have not been able to reach the other man [Mr. Louis B. Poss] yet.
R5. 1/2/40 EC’s letter to Mrs. [1516]:
Dear Mrs. [1516]:
Have yours of the 31st - am indeed sorry to know you have been having such a distressing time with the Dr.’s trying to get some help. Just a few weeks ago we received card from Dr. A. B. Baden - who says he had taken over the work of Dr. Bolkhardt [M. Bolkhardt, N.D.] - who had handled several people for us and very wonderfully, the Phone Number as given is Hobart 4480 - whether you will be able to reach him or not do not know - possibly the Telephone can reach him for you. Wish knew just what to tell you to do - can’t blame us from feeling so juberous [dubious?] about the Dr.’s when one has such experiences - and this of course is not unusual. Only where we have found sympathetic men have we been able to get the real results - couldn’t Dr. Shorell give you a man in Washington - Dr. S. used to be connected with the distribution of the Elliott machine.
You will find a very sympathetic Osteopath there in Dr. Lulu Waters [Lulu Irene Waters Hare, D.O.] will find her name in Phone book - don’t think she has Elliott machine but she might help you, am sure Friend Poss knows many of the Drs. Drop Louis B. Poss a card at 212 Woodland Drive, Jefferson Park, Alexandria, Va. or you can phone him, tell him I said to come help you out.
Know will be glad to try and help any way we can Thanking you - and hoping for the best
Sincerely Edgar Cayce
R6. 2/15/40 Mrs. [2102] was referred for a Physical Reading by Mr. [1539] and Mrs. [1516].
R7. 2/20/40 Wife [1516]‘s letter:
Dear Mr. Cayce:
We found a very fine man with a new Elliott Machine, Dr. A. Fife Heath [M.D.], 1833 Monroe N.E., Washington, D.C.
Mr. [1539] had three treatments a week. We have also been to Dr. Lulu Waters, and found her a splendid operator. She is very sympathetic to your work, in examining Mr. [1539] she has found that the gland is a large hard lump, this has disturbed her quite a good deal, and she asked me would I please ask you to go to sleep again and see if it is coming along all right. I have an idea Mr. Cayce that both Doctors fear a cancer, I have not repeated this to Mr. [1539].
We make the tea from the watermelon seeds and also the other formula.
Enclosed is check for ten dollars, I will be very happy, if you will take another check-up for my husband.
Sincerely Mrs. [1516]
Washington, D.C.
R8. 2/26/40 Wife [1516]‘s letter:
Dear Mr. Cayce,
Your letter just arrived. Mr. [1539] will be at … N.W., Washington, D.C. - 3.30 to 4.30 Feb. 28.
One question I want to ask, you know Mr. [1539] all through this has been very lame, in fact he has had to walk with a cane most of the time, now neither Dr. Waters or myself think this lameness has anything to do with this prostate gland.
It acts more like Arthritis, will you please check on this, of course I realize it could be a pressure on the sciatic nerve, but I want to be sure.
Mr. [1539] says it is much better, but the pain comes and goes. Dr. Waters has been massaging this gland which seems to be a hard lump, she thinks it is a little bit more flexible and softer.
We appreciate having you to come to as this other Doctor advocates an operation.
Yours very Sincerely [1516]
What has caused the lameness? Does it have any connection with the prostate gland condition?
Is the large hard lump responding to treatment satisfactorily?
May it be removed without an operation?

B2. 12/9/39 “Last night I went to the D.O. here in … and told him I had a little trouble to urinate. He made an examination and found the bladder was quite hard. He stated sediment collected bottom in of the bladder and when I urinated it did not drain properly, as the drainage came from the top of bladder, and stated it was my prostate glands that caused the trouble. He advised Johns Hopkins to insert instrument up penis and make passage or else have an operation. Is there any other remedy?”
