This Psychic Reading given by Edgar Cayce at his home on Arctic Crescent, Virginia Beach, Va., this 6th day of April, 1938, in accordance with request made by the self - Miss [1567], new Associate Member of the Ass”n for Research & Enlightenment, Inc., recommended by Mr. […], [brother-in-law of Mr. [1425]].

Time of Reading 4:00 to 4:20 P. M. Eastern Standard Time. …, Ohio. (Physical Suggestion)

1. EC: Yes, we have the body here, Miss [1567].

2. As we find, there are disturbing conditions which prevent the better normal reaction in the physical forces of the body.

3. These as we find, in their expression or manifestation, are in the nervous system disturbances which cause severe attacks of headaches.

4. However, these as we find arise rather from definite disturbances.

5. These, then, are the conditions as we find them with this body, Miss [1567] we are speaking of:

6. The blood supply indicates a taxation in the nervous system, as well as poor eliminations.

7. These as we find affect also the digestive forces, by the natural ABNORMAL condition of the stomach itself.

8. Owing to the position then of the stomach, there are those pressures arising - through the pneumogastric and hypogastric nerve plexus, through the secondary cardiac plexus area, combined with the vagus nervous system - that produce the greater disturbances through temples, sometimes eyes, at other times the top of the head. These are SEVERE reactions to the nerve centers that are reflexed in the activity of the digestive and assimilating system.

9. These as we find are the sources, the causes of the greater disturbances.

10. And with the corrections of these we should find the nervous system, or systems, the reactions of the imaginative and mental reactions much changed; the digestive forces very much nearer in order to normalcy; better assimilation; and with the aid through activities of those properties which we will indicate for the system, better eliminations.

11. As we would find, then, in making for assimilations for this body:

12. First, it is necessary at times for the use of a sedative, but keep away from those that are habit forming as much as possible. And as corrections are made these should be entirely left off or not necessary at all for the body to find relief.

13. We would begin using the Radio-Active Appliance each day, preferably at a period when the body may rest for at least forty to sixty minutes - even though it be in the evening just before retiring. And use this same period, when the Appliance is used, as the period for constructive meditation upon creative energies and forces of a spiritual nature that may be applied in the relationships of the body to the activities with others.

14. The attachments would be circulated about the body; that is, in this manner: Make a mark on one pole of the Appliance, so that it is always the first attachment. This may be done by using a piece of adhesive paper or string tied to that anode. Alternate the attachments as follows:

15. First day: The first attachment would be to the right wrist, the last attachment to the left ankle.

16. Second day: First attachment to the left wrist, last attachment to the right ankle.

17. Third day: First to the left ankle, last to the right wrist.

18. Fourth day: First to the right ankle, last to the left wrist.

19. Thus a circle of the body will have been made in the attachments, you see; the first attachment being or becoming the positive, the last the negative.

20. Then begin over again, attaching in the same manner.

21. Continue using in this manner, for forty minutes to an hour each day, for three weeks. Then leave off three to five days, and then begin all over again.

22. Keep the anodes or plates very clean by polishing with emery paper each time before attaching.

23. Also each day about thirty minutes after the heaviest meal (whichever meal is the heaviest), we would take a quarter teaspoonful of Alcaroid in two glasses of water; that is, dissolve it in a small quantity, then fill the glass; then drink another glass of water afterward.

24. We would begin also with osteopathic adjustments, with the osteopath making suggestions for the type support for the stomach which will fit the body the better.

25. The specific adjustments would be in the upper dorsal and ESPECIALLY in the vagus nerve center and system; coordinating each time the 9th dorsal center as well as the lumbar axis WITH the adjustments made in the dorsal and cervical areas.

26. These would be taken twice a week for three weeks, left off for a week and then taken for a period of three weeks again.

27. In the matter of the diet, this as we find is most essential with the corrections as well as the vibrations set up by the body-electrical forces, as well as the manipulations and the activities of the properties indicated for the digestion.

28. Hence this would be rather as an outline; not just these alone, but foods of such natures:

29. Mornings - either citrus fruit juices or cereals, preferably COOKED cereals when taken - either Maltex or Whole Wheat. DO NOT take cereals at the same meal that the citrus fruits are taken, however. Alternate these. Or stewed fruits with whole wheat toast, with Ovaltine or coffee - but not with milk in the coffee, though the Ovaltine is made with milk.

30. Noons - preferably we would have this meal consist principally of raw vegetables, either by the combinations or lettuce or celery with occasionally the meat juices or vegetable juices. But not so much of meats OR cooked vegetables at this meal.

31. Evenings - preferably this would be the heavier or the more varied meal. In meats, if these are taken, we would use only fish, fowl or lamb. No fried foods ever at any time. Have more leafy vegetables, rather than those of pod or the root nature or those that grow under the ground.

32. Never combine white bread, potatoes, spaghetti or the like - any two of these in the same meal.

33. Do these and be consistent; and we should find not only the attacks lessening but farther and farther apart, as the adjustments are made that hold the stomach in position, and as the digestion and assimilation and eliminations are aided; thus bringing near normal forces for this body.

R1. 4/20/38 “I wrote at once to tell you that I thought your reading most remarkable, then neglected to finish the letter. I ordered the Radio-Active instrument but it has been delayed, also the Alcaroid but it has not come. I was taking chiropractic treatment and gave your instructions to the chiropractor. For the first time in nine months I have had a little relief. You described the headache perfectly. It was all remarkable. I hope the machine will come soon, as I am anxious to get relief as soon as possible. Thank you for your kindness and help.”

R2. 4/26/38 “The chiropractor is working exactly as before I had the reading. He said the information about the vertebrae affected was partly right. He does not approve of supporting the stomach nor of taking any medicine, so you see it is difficult to get anyone to do other than his own way. I shall ask him whether he will communicate with you. I have not received the appliance nor the Alcaroid you suggested. I supposed that also was from the Health Home Remedies Co., but I may be able to get it from a drug store here.” [EC wrote saying she could get the Alcaroid from her druggist, he hoped she would receive the Appliance soon and that she also would get the stomach support suggested.]

R3. 4/28/38 Miss [1567]‘s letter to EC:

My dear Mr. Cayce, -

You have given the most marvelous demonstration of being CONSCIOUS on the PLANE of MIND (where every thing is known) that it has ever been MY privilege to witness. You also have given readings on the spiritual and soul planes as the inspirational booklet states. I hope to have those later.

Would you tell me this - and I ask it with the idea of tracing [extracting] some grain of comfort not from any idle curiosity - have you ever reached any one who has passed on to other planes besides those which in this earth life are familiar? Have you satisfied it to YOUR own satisfaction by KNOWLEDGE - NOT HOPE, or WISHFUL THINKING

• that there is survival of PERSONALITY and CONSCIOUS EXISTENCE on planes beyond the MATERIAL? You located a human mind in New York supposed to be in Illinois - a fact, NOT KNOWN to the SUBCONSCIOUS MINDS of the inquirers. If there is existence on other planes - and I believe there is
• could you locate any personality functioning on the astral or whichever plane one goes to after passing beyond?” My darling little mother passed on on May 1, 1937. I left her for a few minutes while I went on an errand. She fell and after a month of fighting for life slipped over while I had my hand on her pulse, I could not help her after the fall… I have grieved for a year for knowing that I failed her. She was like a a child. If only I could get some idea that she was going on well without me I might relax. Anything you say will NEVER be told. It may sound absurd but it is my first experience with death.

R4. 4/30/38 EC’s letter to Miss [1567]:

Dear Miss [1567]

Thank you for yours of 28th, wish could sit down and talk with you about the things that disturb you, for it is hard to put them in writing for necessarily requires many words to say a fact that is so easily misunderstood. But know just how you feel - have had the experience of losing my own Mother and Father. Mother in ‘26 - father only a year ago last April 11th.

Personally Miss [1567] am satisfied that life goes on - there is the survival of the personality - don’t ask any one to accept my experience - for realize this has been my own revelation - and am not inclined to ask any one to accept my experience as theirs - or that they are to have one exactly the same - of course I believe in Dreams - for from the Bible we see that the sages of old considered that a means of approach to God - and as the spirit of each person is a part of God, not unreasonable to contact that as a personality - though the personality is gradually lost in the individuality of God. And LIFE as a manifestation in personality, is a continuous thing - until we are one with God.

Yes, have consciously talked with my own, and many friends, and have seen personally - not through a medium - many hundreds of disincarnate entities - many that I were personally acquainted with, many that only knew of, many that never knew - they came to ask questions, just as persons do for a reading. No, I am not a spiritualist in the common accepted term, that it is possible to communicate with our loved ones as you see have just declared that I have done so. But that any disincarnate entity is to be used as a medium for knowledge, to me is all wrong - is retardment to them, and more often gives us false hope. For because we have in death (so called) gone through God’s other door has not changed one one whit - save to give them a greater scope of vision, as it would be from the valley to the hill, or from hill to the Plane or to any great height. So such to me are not to be used - for it is an abuse of Knowledge, and of a privilege, but when they of their own accord seek, or are sent by the Father - God - then that is to me indeed a great privilege.

Such experiences have not come to me by my willing such - but have come at times when I or they most need the assurance

• or so it has appeared so to me. But let me give you an example or two and possibly you will understand just what am trying to say.

A few years ago on a Sunday morning was trying to teach a Sunday-School Lesson [See 294-155, 11/15/32] the lesson was the admonition of Joshua - there we, only a few in the class that morning, when suddenly - as if my spiritual eyes had been opened, I saw the entire section of the church fill with those disincarnate entities, people of many faiths as we would say as was signified by their dress - many I knew - many I did not, not by name, but was aware of their Faith, by their dress, my own Father was alive then and in the class

• he said as soon as the lesson period was over, “son what happened there must have been others present, that we could not see, felt there must be from the look on your face, and the manner in which you delivered your message”. That was my first experience of a mass or group materialization. Individual experiences, or seeing and talking with individuals who have passed over, have been much more numerous, than mass or group, one of the most outstanding - and one that may possibly answer your question as you asked it was this: Some years ago met a man who was high up in one of the industrials of our country [Mr. M. B. Wyrick, a Western Union man], [GD’s note: See 10/23/33 letter in detail under 4905-70 Reports.] came to me for a physical reading, had marvelous results, we discussed these subjects often as we were together, life after death - survival of personality - re-incarnation and many an kindred subject. Then he was injured in an accident and died - as said have never attempted to talk with those passed on - they must come of their own accord - but one evening [Fall of 1933 - Mr. W. had died 4/28/33] was sitting here [10/22/33] in my home listening to the Radio - it was a song programme and they were singing religious hymns, when suddenly I realized my friend was sitting there with me listening to the music - he turned to me and said “Cayce there is the survival of the personality, there is a consciousness of what is going on a pleasant one, but that” motioning to the radio - (and I felt the sense of the song) “is the only life to live” (the song was sweet hour of prayer). To me such experiences have been and are very convincing, I realize such may to many appear as just a vision - a dream - imagining, but to me they have been and are, very real. I appreciate your most excellent letter Miss [1567], the assurance you give me of my feeble undertakings, meaning much in the experience of others, that is the greatest assurance after all, what has and does our experience do toward our being helpful to our fellow man - that is the test - not that I may laud over them
• but can and do I give them hope, faith, love, kindness, and keep humble myself that is the test of being a channel of blessing to others day by day.

To me the Bible is the greatest record of Psychic experiences, and will we read it for a revelation, we will receive same, and you will gather from same “self condemnation” is a hindrance to us, as well as to our loved ones who have gone on, we live our own life, or our portion of same - for LIFE itself is the manifestation of that force or influence we call God. And to use the experience of life to sow the seed of the Spirit, which is, Faith, hope, PATIENCE, long suffering, just being kind. And the like is our privilege, and then leave the results to GOD, we can never make any thing grow, or give it life, only attune it to God’s care, and he does the quickening.

Just hope have not wearied you, and have not been too verbose in what have tried to say. Hope some time to have the opportunity to talk with you, and most of all to be of some small service, in helping you realize, LIFE is continuous for it is of God, the things of the spirit live on and on, and manifest and remanifest as we put them to use in our dealings with our fellow man, for as we do unto our fellow man we do unto our God.

R5. 5/10/38 Miss [1567]‘s letter to EC:

“Thanking you very, very much for your kindness in telling me of your experiences. You made it all very real, and you helped me more than I can say. My dear little mother was three people in one, to me - my child, my friend, and constant companion, as well as a wonderful mother. I listened for her at night for years, yet I have only had one dream of her. My best friend passed on just a few weeks before my little mother. I had constant companionship from these two good souls, yet I cannot dream of them. Maybe my nerves were too shocked! You are gifted by being sensitive on many planes, so departed souls can contact you.

“My little mother was quite bent over, I think that is why she fell! I wish that I could see her! Later on I want to have this reading to find any help you can give.

“The ‘Radio Active’ appliance arrived yesterday. I have not worked out how to use it yet. I shall report on it later. Again thanking you for your understanding of my inquiry and your help in bearing my loss, because of your assurance of ‘LIFE BEYOND THE VEIL’”.

“P.S. I have only been to one so called ‘MEDIUM’. I think that they are able to read ones subconscious mind - but they are mostly ignorant people, those I have heard of are, and I doubt their ability to reach beyond the earth plane. What you could say would be TRUTH to me.

R6. 5/16/38 “I enclose $20 for a Life Reading. I am anxious to have any help you can give me. Whatever I was meant to do in this life, I did not do, but I would like to know what it was. I lost the path early.”

R7. 5/20/38 “All of my life has been a question. WHY? I was always different from my material family. I never believed in a personal God. I have never found an answer and now at middle age I seem high and dry on the road after voyaging over the earth. At every crucial period of my life the ‘door was slammed’ and I found nothing! Why? …My little mother was religious, but it was the Presbyterian Church ‘fear of God’ religion. She always understood me, so I miss her very much. The others of the family got what they wanted, yet I could not have my mate or my life. There has never been any answer to it all. I have stopped struggling to find one! I do not want this incarnation to be absolutely wasted. Was I really meant to care for my father and mother’s lives? I never had a talent of any kind!
