This psychic reading given by Edgar Cayce at his home on Arctic Crescent, Virginia Beach, Va., this 19th day of January, 1939, in accordance with request made by the self - Mr. [1623], Associate Member of the Ass”n for Research & Enlightenment, Inc.

Time of Reading 3:50 to 4:00 P. M. Eastern Standard Time. New York City.

1. GC: You will give the physical condition of this body at the present time, with suggestions for further corrective measures; answering the questions he has submitted, as I ask them:

2. EC: Yes.

3. Now as we find, in some respects conditions are not so well with the body in the present as when we last had same here.

4. We find that there has not been the application of the low electrical forces as were indicated, which should not have been left off; with the applying of the Packs over the areas indicated for assisting the lymph in its circulation through the torso and the alimentary canal; so as to aid in better assimilation.

5. For with the lack of the low electrical forces that make for the elemental activities through the nerve forces to supply energies for same, not only do the impulses become weakened but these have made for inconveniences - or disturbing factors in the system (that is, the Oil Packs).

6. We would then leave these off (the Oil Packs) for the time being, but after a period of two weeks we would begin using them again.

7. And we would begin immediately with the use of the rubs and the low electrical forces carrying those vibratory influences to the assimilating system.

8. Also we would occasionally have the osteopathic manipulations to keep the drainages set up in the system.

9. Ready for questions.

10. (Q) Is this infection in the liver, gall duct and bladder the source of all these troubles? (A) This is an EFFECT!

The condition, as we have indicated, is from the breaking down of the nerve impulses or plasms through the lack of elements necessary for carrying the impulses along the nerve fibres of the body itself.

Hence it is a nerve condition. The SOURCES, of course, arise from all the centers of assimilation. Hence the liver, the gall duct, spleen and pancreas all are a part of the disturbance.

11. (Q) What besides fried foods are injurious for my diet? (A) Fried foods are the most injurious. Other foods that are body and blood building are very well.

12. (Q) What causes the feeling of being filled up internally under my right front ribs? (A) The forming, through the lack of impulse for activity, of the FLOWS from the activities of the assimilating system, without the impulses for same to be carried through the lymph and emunctory activity - or back to the whole of the blood supply.

Do these things then for the present.

R1. 1/23/39 [1623]‘s letter to EC:

“I note in your present reading that you state that the ‘Low electrical forces which were indicated’ had been left off. In my letter of January 8th, I called your attention to the fact that there had been NO INDICATION for the use of the wet cell appliance since the reading of August 31st, and I naturally - in accordance with your instructions - discontinued it on October 11th, following the reading of that date.

“I have followed your instructions to the letter, from your first reading of June 30th, to the middle of last December, when as I wrote you, the hot packs were definitely upsetting me. I have however continued the Alcaroid and occasional osteopathic treatments.

“Now I am at a loss to understand the meaning of this present reading. Am I to use the wet cell with or without gold chloride? How long each application? On the same places as indicated in your June 30th reading? Are the packs to be used with or without the Aconite and Laudanum application? How long and how often after the two weeks rest from them?

“While I was definitely worse when I wrote you on January 8th, since then I have made rapid strides and can say that I have not been so well at any time since my illness began. I note in your present reading that you state quite the contrary.

“I assure you of my ardent wish to cooperate in every way with any Power which can aid me…”

“Note: Your letter of January 20th just received, and am glad to know the research reading will be this week.”

R2. 1/25/39 EC’s letter to [1623]:

“Thanks for yours of the 23rd. I am indeed happy to know you are feeling much better; am sorry if there were confusing suggestions. But I feel from the present suggestions you are to use the Wet Cell Appliance with Gold about 30 minutes each application, just as you did when first given. Use packs with Aconite and Laudanum. Use about one hour each day for a few days, then leave off. Keep up the Alcaroid, and the occasional osteopath treatment.

“Hope you keep on the improve. I trust the reading for Dr. Taylor will help in your case. That is to be tried today…”

R3. 1/25/39 Dr. Charles Goodman Taylor obtained a general reading on multiple sclerosis. See 907-1.

R4. 3/2/39 Reply to Questionnaire by Dr. Frank P. Dobbins:

1a. Did the reading presented to you describe the condition of the patient? “Yes.”

1b. Explain any variation. “None.”

1c. Give technical diagnosis. “Multiple sclerosis.”

2. Were the suggestions for treatment in your opinion proper for this condition? “Yes.”

3. For what period of time has the patient followed directions given in the reading under your care? “Six months.”

4. What results have you observed? “Very remarkable improvement in this man’s condition.”

5. Comment. “Until I saw this case, I did not believe anything could be done for this particular disease.”

R5. 10/14/43 [1623]‘s letter to EC:

“During 1938 and 1939 you gave me several readings and suggested my going to Dr. Dobbins, an osteopathic doctor. His treatments were occasionally very effective. Dr. Dobbins two years ago joined our armed forces, and now when I am in New York I have found no one who seems as efficient in regard to my ailment as he was. Could you suggest anyone in the city? If not, I shall just drop the matter. However, I felt that if you could, I should enjoy hearing from you in regard to this.

“I am still having the help of Dr. Taylor of New York, and am very happy to say that on the whole, I have shown a gradual improvement.

“Hope you have been well and succeeding in your work of desiring to help those who are in great need…”

R6. 10/19/43 EC’s letter to [1623]:

“Replying to yours of the 14th, I think that if you will see Dr. George N. Coulter, 18 East 41st St., New York City, you will find that he will give you the same kind of attention that you received from Dr. Dobbins. We have suggested Dr. Coulter many times since Dr. Dobbins’ services were not available. I am glad to know that you have been gradually on the improve. If you are improving, the causes of the disturbances are being eliminated. It is wonderful that you are having the cooperation of such a wonderful doctor as Dr. Taylor. But do see Dr. Coulter and for that phase of treatment.

“Thanking you and if you are in New York November 9th, when I will be there to speak at the Psychology Forum, I wish to meet and talk with you that evening…”

R7. 7/24/44 [1623]‘s letter to EC:

“Your letter of October 19, 1943 suggesting Dr. Coulter, who I had been referred to by Dr. Dobbins’ office, does not help me, as I already had tried; his treatment and learned by trial.

“My gut, as it is called medically, has been from the beginning of my illness a constant problem. And in your readings of 1939 you suggested hot Castor Oil Packs, which made it steadily worse. Yet upon another reading you found the disturbance improved. That proved to be incorrect, as I was in touch with Dr. Taylor, again suggesting the hot Castor Oil Pack. It was at the suggestion at this point that the readings were stopped. May I ask you in all candor if you think a reading now would be helpful? I have Faith that my condition can be improved, by some minor aid, as I am in a position to give all that is possible of myself toward this help. However, if you feel that it would be the same suggestions which finally proved useless, I feel your energy should be saved for other readings. That is why I ask you this question in all honesty and await a reply…”

R8. 7/26/44 EC’s letter to [1623]:

“I want to thank you very much for your consideration.

“As suggested in your letter of the 24th, we will be glad to undertake this for you if we can possibly work it in anywhere.

“It may possibly be three, four, or five months before we can do it, but we will be glad to undertake it, without charge, for we will be glad to know what the information would suggest under such circumstances. Then, you can judge for yourself whether you would want to follow through.

“If that will be satisfactory, let me hear from you about the 15th of August, and we will try to make an appointment for you.

“Trusting that we may indeed be the means of service to you…”

R9. 8/1/44 [1623]‘s letter to EC:

“Thank you very much for your letter of the 26th of July, suggesting you undertake a reading, without charge, if it can be arranged later in the year. As conditions are at present, it will be better if I write you next month to see how you are fixed as to time, when it will be possible for me to also give you more specific information. Your suggestion, however, is greatly appreciated, and the question I would ask at that reading is, what is the obstruction in the spinal fluid which seems to be at the source of this entire illness? There seems no need to ask the specific disturbances, which are all caused from this base trouble…”

R10. 8/18/44 EC’s letter to [1623]:

“I have yours of the 1st, and note what you have to say.

“As you possibly have gathered, I have been away from the office for some time. I haven’t been feeling so well myself. Maybe I’ve been working too hard - or maybe it is just the meanness coming out.

“I do hope, though, that we may be of help to you a little later. It is impossible for me to make appointments just now, but I hope in a few weeks to be of help to those who have confidence in our work.

“With every good wish and hoping that you are improving…”
