This Psychic Reading given by Edgar Cayce at his home on Arctic Crescent, Virginia Beach, Va., this 7th day of July, 1938, in accordance with request made by the self - Mrs. [1631], new Associate Member of the Ass”n for Research & Enlightenment, Inc., recommended by Mrs. [1620].
[Edgar Cayce; Gertrude Cayce, Conductor; Gladys Davis, Steno.]
Time of Reading 11:00 to 11:15 A. M. Eastern Standard Time. …, N.Y. (Physical Suggestion)
-
EC: Yes, we have the body, Mrs. [1631].
-
Now as we find, there are very definite and specific disturbances. While these are in their reactions a bit different, we find that they should respond - with care and persistence; even under the long standing existence of the disturbances.
-
The reactions where there is the causing of the stiffening of joints, the activities especially in the extremities, the arms (the right, the more), the lower limbs - these all arise from infectious forces.
-
The hindrances and pressures produced by the accumulations from poisons, and the arthritic reaction, are an effect.
-
We find that the cause arises from adhesions that come from conditions about the gall duct and the umbilicus plexus as related to the lacteals’ activity; and especially in the action of the ducts through which the activity of fats is carried on for the digestion.
-
Hence we find that all of those things that consist of oils or fats cause an increase, or greater disturbances for the body.
-
These then arise from this pressure produced between the nervous systems by the activity of the assimilating forces upon the locomotories and the centers and the muscular forces of the body.
-
The attitudes of the body that have been kept, especially in the constructive thinking, the desire for self to be useful for a purpose, the keeping from the mind attitudes of resentments and all such, have been and are the saving graces for the body as it were.
-
As we find, under the supervision of such an one as Dr. Mary Miller, these would be the activities wherein we may bring for this body the eliminating of the causes, a reviving of the bodily forces and functions, and an activity to be almost near to normal - if there will be consistent and persistent activities, and the following of the diets that would be necessarily a part of these whole conditions.
-
It must be remembered by the body, and those assisting in making the applications for corrections, that this is rather an insidious character of disturbance.
-
Then, because there are great improvements, and because the conditions begin to show alleviation of the disturbances, do not become negligent as to the applications; nor revert to those things that the desire or the appetites might call for in ways and manners; else we may produce greater inflammatory forces, as to cause or gain a return of even greater disturbances than exist in the present.
-
First we would begin with the use of heavy Castor Oil Packs over the area from the lower portion of the right rib area, or the portion of the lobes of the liver, entirely to the caecum area - on the right side, you see; extending to at least the middle portion of the abdomen. These would be applied at least for an hour and a half each day, for four to five to six days - preferably in the evening; as hot as the body can stand same.
-
After each evening’s treatment with these, the body would be sponged off with warm soda water; so that the oil may be removed, and the absorbent forces that naturally are thrown off from the body in poisons that may be removed in such a way and manner.
-
Then, following the soda water sponge bath, there would be a gentle massage given over the whole area, especially in the right side.
-
And as these treatments are being followed, there would gradually be made a correction of a subluxation which exists in the lumbar axis.
-
After the five to six days of the Packs, we would begin then with a five-day course of the Zilatone tablets. Take one tablet about half an hour after the morning meal, drinking at least two glasses of water with same. Then after the evening meal take TWO tablets, drinking at least two glasses of water when taking same. Keep these up in this manner for at least five days, see?
-
Then we would have a rest period from ANY of the treatments, for a period of about a week.
-
Begin then with small doses of Atomidine; two drops in half a glass of water upon arising, before any meal is taken. In the afternoon take two more drops, in half a glass of water. In the evening just before retiring take two more drops, in half a glass of water. This procedure would be kept up for five days.
-
Then on the next evening, after the five-day course of Atomidine, we would take a bath in almost a saturated solution of Epsom Salts; this as warm - not hot but as warm as the body may well stand; and should be sufficient to almost cover the body in a tub or container, see? that is, there should be used as much water as necessary to almost cover the body, and put as much Epsom Salts in same as will be dissolved in that amount of water. Lie in this for thirty minutes; of course, keeping the head out - but practically all the rest of the body under the water. Stay in the bath for at least thirty minutes, or until the water begins to cool.
-
Have a thorough rubdown after this bath. Then have a thorough rubdown with Olive Oil as a rub, after the body is well dried.
-
Occasionally, a general massage would be given the body WHILE IT IS IN THIS BATH, see?
-
Then, after the entire treatments have progressed to the Epsom Salts Bath - or after the Epsom Salts Bath has been given, not before - we would begin with the low electrical forces of the Diathermy. The application would be made to the plexus from which the gall duct and the liver excretory forces receive their impulse, in the cerebrospinal system, you see, and OVER the gall duct center. About five of these treatments would be given, but two days elapsing between.
-
After about two weeks it may be necessary again to repeat the Atomidine course AND the Epsom Salts Bath.
-
But if these are followed consistently, persistently, with that same prayerful attitude which has been a part of the entity’s experience, we should rid the body of these disturbing conditions.
-
As indicated, throughout the period the diet should be watched carefully. Keep away from fats. Vegetables and fruits should form the principal part of the diet, or practically ALL the diet - especially during these treatments. Never any fried foods. Not quantities of eggs; very seldom should eggs be taken, just occasionally - and then only the yolk, not the white of the egg - and preferably boiled. No fried foods of any nature. Roast chicken or baked fish may be taken occasionally, but not during the periods when so many of the applications are being made. Fruits and vegetables, both raw and cooked. No coffee, no tea. Cocoa, or any CEREAL DRINK may be a portion of the diet.
-
Ready for questions.

Reports
Reports & Follow-up
R1. 7/11/38 [1631]‘s letter to EC: ”…I received my Reading last Friday, and I am amazed and delighted with the information it gave me. I KNOW the diagnosis is correct, altho no doctor ever gave that as the cause - they all were puzzled. But I have had discomfort in my right side as you indicate, for years but never dreamed it was related in any way to the arthritic condition. I have already got in touch with Dr. Mary Miller and sent her the copy of my Reading. I expect to begin treatments with her when the weather is cooler, and will keep you advised of my progress.
“By the way, my right arm IS worse than my left.
“I am very thankful that I came to know you, for I believe that every word in my Reading is the Truth.
“May God Bless you and keep you well and strong. Your work is really miraculous…”
R2. 9/8/38 Mrs. Florence E. Campbell’s letter to EC: ”…Dr. Mary Miller feels that some progress has been made with Mrs. [1631] - who is a very advanced case. She has reached the stage of the epsom salts bath - which was given today. She will now go on to the other instructions and of course you know they will be carried out to the letter…”
R3. 10/3/38 [1631]‘s letter to EC: ”…I have followed all the treatment outlined in my Reading of the 7th day of July, 1938. My husband died September 16 (about two weeks ago). He died in his sleep, so it was a terrible shock to me, and I am still suffering from the effects.
“Instead of the Diathermy prescribed in the Reading (five treatments every second day) Dr. Miller had me take two treatments daily each of twenty minutes duration, from the ‘Inantamenter,’ (?) an electrical unit that Dr. Miller brought to my house. I have a great deal of pain and stiffness so I thought I had better write you for a check Reading.”

Background
B1. 6/13/38 “I have been suffering from arthritis for years; have also suffered from terrible dread and anxiety caused by a very unhappy marriage. So you see I need both mental and physical help. All my joints have limited motion but I can’t stand up or sit by myself, or dress or undress myself, but can get about the house fairly well once I’m on my feet.”
