This Psychic Reading given by Edgar Cayce at his home on Arctic Crescent, Virginia Beach, Va., this 29th day of September, 1938, in accordance with request made by the self - Miss [1639], Associate Member of the Ass”n for Research & Enlightenment, Inc.

Time of Reading 10:55 to 11:00 A. M. Eastern Standard Time. …, Va.

1. GC: You will give the physical condition of this body at the present time, with suggestions for further corrective measures; answering the questions she has submitted, as I ask them:

2. EC: Yes, we have the body here.

3. As we find, conditions are in the position where BETTERMENT may come; though there will be at times some “flare ups” still with the finger - until there is brought about the more perfect coagulation.

4. Then, we would keep the applications externally; but CONTINUE to take the Codiron in sufficient quantity to aid in building a better blood supply.

5. Keep the eliminations near normal. Be sure there is the full evacuation of the alimentary canal each day.

6. Once a month take a high enema to cleanse the system - if we would bring the better condition in the blood supply.

7. Ready for questions.

8. (Q) What is condition of finger? (A) As we have indicated, it is in the position for less of disturbing conditions - if the better blood supply is established; though there will be recurrent disturbances.

9. (Q) The X-Ray treatments should be given, then? (A) As indicated, continue the external applications.

10. (Q) When the flare-ups occur, what should be done to relieve same? (A) The best thing is to produce better eliminations!

11. (Q) Am I liable to continue having trouble with it? (A) As indicated, for a time - until there are better influences established in the blood supply, and the vitamin forces in the body sufficient to make for the better distribution of influences and forces assimilated.

12. (Q) Would it be better to have finger removed? (A) Not necessarily at the present, unless greater disturbances arise. If all as indicated is carried out, we would not find this necessary.

13. We are through with this Reading.

R2. 4/10/56 [1639]‘s letter to the Men’s Breakfast Club:

Dear Friends,

As a living witness of the power of faith and prayer I would like to tell you of my experience of the past three years.

April 3, 1953 I was totally paralyzed [from stroke, following hypertension for several years] on the left side. When Dr. Corpening [Cora Z. Corpening, M.D.] took me to the hospital she said she had no idea she could get me there alive. When she told me I knew my life’s work was not complete and I was spared to complete this work. My faith has never wavered in this three years time. It would be impossible for me to live through some of my darkest periods without true faith in God and I have known I was going to have a complete recovery through His great love and mercy. I had several prayer groups as well as friends offering prayers for me and now I am very happy to show them how these prayers have been answered.

I can now walk alone with aid of a brace and a cane. Several who saw how I was look at me with amazement but I know it is all the power of faith and prayer.

If I had a talent for writing I would like to write an article for a religious magazine hoping it would reach someone who needed proof of this power.

One year ago through God’s hand I met a friend who told me in one of Dr. Cayce’s readings he had said massage of peanut oil was wonderful for strengthening muscles in case of paralysis. I am using this peanut oil for a massage and it has worked miracles for me. The last visit from my doctor he told me to be sure to keep up this treatment as it was doing me so much good.

Dr. Norman Vincent Peale has helped me very much. One, the “Power of Positive Thinking” which I have practiced and another, “Not Halfway.” I am now much more than halfway. I know I am going to have a complete recovery through God’s love. I live on a higher plane spiritually now and can talk to God and even feel His presence.

It would be a privilege to talk personally with anyone who has any doubt in power of faith and prayer and I can give them many concrete examples of how my prayers have been answered in this past three years.

R3. 8/6/56 [1639]‘s letter to HLC:

Dear Hugh Lynn -

Now I am recovered and moving [from nursing home] to … Sept 1. I feel you should know your father’s prescription of massage with peanut oil is largely responsible and on my visit to my doctor once I told him what I had done and he said, “Keep it up by all means.” I have bought it by the pint.

R4. 9/56 A friend told us she [1639] is now taking care of herself in her own apartment and expects to take a part time job this fall.
