This psychic reading given by Edgar Cayce at his home on Arctic Crescent, Virginia Beach, Va., this 17th day of November, 1938, in accordance with request made by the self - Miss [1676], Associate Member of the Ass”n for Research & Enlightenment, Inc.
[Edgar Cayce; Gertrude Cayce, Conductor; Gladys Davis, Steno. Evelyn R. Gimbert and Mae Gimbert Verhoeven.]
Time of Reading 11:15 to 11:30 A. M. Eastern Standard Time.
-
GC: You will give the physical condition of this body at the present time, with suggestions for further corrective measures; answering the questions she has submitted, as I ask them.
-
EC: Yes, we have the body here, [1676].
-
As we find, in the main there is a great deal of improvement through the general conditions of the body.
-
However, there is much more to be desired, in the eliminating of the causes as well as reestablishing the abilities of locomotion and the use of the limbs and the rest of the body coordinating with same.
-
We would keep the rubs and the applications which have been suggested, - and in the order and in the manner as we have indicated.
-
Now, however, - for a period of four to five weeks, - we would have Dr. Beard make adjustments in the lumbar and sacral area; as well as in the 9th dorsal and in the 3rd and 4th dorsal; and COORDINATING the cervicals with same. But do not attempt to have these if the weather is so inclement as to cause anxiety to the body in keeping appointments. Twice each week we would have these adjustments, when the weather permits.
-
These would be in addition to the other rubs which have been given, see? Keep them consistently.
-
And we will find there will be a much safer, and a more consistent improvement for the body.
-
Ready for questions.
-
(Q) What causes the aching through the lower part of the right side; running down the right leg through the knee? (A) This is the pressure as indicated upon not only the 9th dorsal (being to the right), but a subluxation to the left of the PELVIC center in the lumbar area.
This will gradually disappear as these adjustments are made.
- (Q) What causes frequent sore throat, and difficulty in swallowing? (A) This is the attempt of the system to adjust itself to the pressures. Hence as indicated, the adjustments would be made first in the lumbar and sacral, 9th dorsal, but each time gradually coordinating the cervical and vagus center with those for BETTER eliminations from the system.
And as there is better coordination established through the ganglia in the areas from the upper dorsal throughout the cervical, all of these disturbances will disappear.
Do these, as has been indicated.
-
(Q) Are tonsils bad? (A) Tonsils are affected, but with the better circulation these may be brought to normal. If there is the local infection of such a nature that it tends to KEEP a disturbance, have Beasley remove same.
-
(Q) Does walking hurt me? (A) Walking HURTS, but it is when the adjustments are made that the body must attempt gradually to do. But do not do so without an aid that will keep away fear of falling. Do not attempt to climb stairs or go down steps; and especially without aid, - and especially until adjustments are being made.
When the adjustments are made in the lumbar axis, first relax the area by Wet Heat and the adjustments will be easily made.
- (Q) What about my teeth? (A) The general condition here is that there has NEVER been sufficient of the calcium for the completion even of the teeth in the system. Hence there has been a great deal of disturbance left through the system.
Hence the necessity for the rubs and the hot packs in such quantities; that, with the distribution of the circulatory forces, this condition may be relieved.
A little later - but not until there has been better coordination established by the removal of pressures and the stimulating of coordination of the activities of both the deeper and the superficial circulation - which as we find should be by the middle of March - we would then have local attention to the teeth; and also add more calcium to the system through the taking of Calcios in small quantities; a little bit taken every day, preferably spread on bread or cracker.
- (Q) What is the trouble with the big toe on left foot? (A) Still those conditions as indicated.
Do as we have outlined for the better forces in the present.
- We are through for the present.

(GD’s notes at the time of the reading:
See extra sheet [which was enclosed] of directions to be taken to Dr. Martha Beard, Hopkinsville, Ky.
The Calcios, when you begin taking it in March, may be obtained from the Colloidal Health Products Corp., Greenvale, Long Island, N.Y. It is a syrupy paste, and sells for $2.50 a jar. The manufacturers claim it is the BEST way of getting free calcium assimilated by the system.)
Reports
Reports & Follow-up
R1. 11/22/38 [1676]‘s letter to EC:
“I have received my reading and will try to get started with my extra treatment with Dr. Beard. I’m trying to get some money together for my treatments.
“A few days ago I wrote you about going to business school. Your reply was that I should go. I went ahead and made arrangements with Mr. Moore, at Frankfort, that I’d start to school on November 28th. My expenses were to be paid by the Division of Education.
“After reading over my reading I find that I should not go up and down steps. Newton’s Commercial College is on the second floor with several steps to go up.
“Should I postpone the going to school? I do not want to go if it will be harmful to me. There’s nothing that’s so important to me just now, but my health. I would give up everything to walk again.
“Would it be asking too much of you to ask that you’d write a letter that I could send to Mr. Moore stating why I couldn’t attend school just now.
“Just when do you think I could go without harm to me?
“Please accept my apology for taking your valuable time.
“Will let you hear from me regarding my treatments with Dr. Beard…”
R2. 11/25/38 EC’s letter to [1676]:
“I have yours of the 22nd. I think from the reading, Miss [1676], it would be a great deal better, were you to postpone going to school for a few months. I am quite sure, however, it would be much better, would you have Dr. Beard write the letter to Mr. Moore.
“I would certainly do that. However, yes, there is often a great difference in what I might say when I am physically conscious and when giving the Reading. Explain the situation to Dr. Beard and I am sure she will write you just the letter needed.
“I’m sincerely hoping you will soon be normal and if upon examination, there are any questions that Dr. Beard would like to ask, be sure to let me know about it…
“P.S. Please know - never any trouble to try and help - don’t hesitate to write me at any time.”
R3. 1/6/39 Dr. Beard’s letter to EC:
“Miss [1676] asked me to write you and tell you what progress she’s made. I really can’t see very much improvement in her walking. I tried to follow your suggestions as nearly as I could. Her case is a very unusual one and I think it’s going to be a long drawn out case. It’s a case that’s hard to understand. I don’t know whether she told you or not but she has a brother that is starting just as she did. I examined him the other day and his back is very similar to hers. He went to Mayo’s just before Christmas and went through the clinic. They didn’t offer him much encouragement, gave him a prescription for expensive medicine and told him to report in two years. They told him they didn’t think he’d ever be any worse. I told her she should report to you and I imagine she has.
“When I saw in the Era Kentucky New Era] that you were in Hopkinsville at the holiday, I thought I would call you and talk to you, but got busy and didn’t. I saw Mrs. [760] downtown today. She says your patient that she is nursing, is getting along nicely. If she could be with all your patients, they’d all improve faster, for she certainly does carry out your directions regardless of the work. I haven’t heard from the [1405] child for some time. They’ve paid me a very small amount for the work I did. I hope you got your money.
“With best wishes for the New Year and for your continued success…
“P.S. If you advise Miss [1676], I’ll continue to do my best for her.”
