-
GC: You will go over this body carefully, examine it thoroughly, and tell me the conditions you find at the present time; giving the cause of the existing conditions, also suggestions for help and relief for this body. You will answer the questions that may be asked.
-
EC: Yes.
-
Now as we find, with this body, there are rather the complications.
-
And unless there is the allaying of the temperature, with the abilities of the system to again assimilate nominally, we may - through the infectious forces - bring some permanent disabilities; not only to the functioning of the system but to the better activities of the physical body.
-
These then are conditions as we find with this body, [1677].
-
First, there are the after effects of a condition that may have been called intestinal flu.
-
And then there arose - and are the effects in the system of - the infectious forces of a malarial disturbance, by the very nature of the condition as seen existing in the blood supply.
-
Hence the upsetting of the balance of the acidity and alkalinity, as well as the ability for activities through the alimentary canal; periods of regurgitation and vomiting, and the inability of obtaining conditions wherein the flow of the lower portions of the stomach did not counterbalance the activities through the alkalized force - or the lacteals.
-
Hence the inflammation has greater effect upon the body, and reduces the vitality, and raises more temperature than ordinary.
-
AS WE FIND, THEN:
-
We would, as soon as practical, apply quite heavy poultices (about an inch thick) of crushed grapes; preferably the Concord or purple grapes. Change these as fast as they are heated by the body; putting them, of course, over the abdomen and over the stomach itself. As fast as they become warm, change. They should not be required more than half a day or three-quarters of a day.
-
And as soon as the body is settled, and has been relieved, give a little of this as a mixture:
Lime Water…1 ounce, Cinnamon…1 ounce, 10% solution Iodide of Potassium…30 minims, 10% solution Bromide of Potassium…60 minims.
Shake the solution before the dosage is taken, which would be about a teaspoonful in about a quarter of a glass or a tablespoonful of water. Let it be sipped rather than gulped - every two or three hours, or as necessary for settling the stomach.
-
Then we would CLEANSE the colon with enemas, that will aid in removing the poisons as would be inclined to be left by the application and activity and reaction from the poultice.
-
These as we find would relieve the tensions in the body.
-
Then, preferably under the direction of a physician, we would give Bromo-Quinine - or Bromide of Soda and Quinine. Not too large doses, but sufficient for the changing of the activity of the liver and its relationship to the spleen and the whole of the circulation. This may only be required for a few days, or possibly three to five doses.
-
We would begin then with Beef Juice as the principal diet. Not broth but the JUICE - beef juice. This also would be sipped. Of course, this may be taken with gruel or predigested or only semi-liquid foods; but this should form the base of the foods.
-
Fresh grape juice would be well, but the juice squeezed from the fresh grapes is better than the bottled grape juice.
-
Orange juice and all of the citrus fruit juices would be well; or any or all of these combined - that is, at various times, not at once; but not large quantities, else we may set up irritation and inflammation again.
-
Do these, and then - a little later have a gentle massage, osteopathically administered, for the coordination of all the centers from which impulses arise for activity of the organs of the liver, spleen, pancreas and kidneys.
-
All of these would be the helpful and the beneficial measures for this body.
-
Ready for questions.
-
We are through for the present.

R1. 9/26/38 Mother [1551]‘s ltr. to EC:
Mr. Edgar Cayce
Dear Mr. Cayce,
I have meant for some time to write and thank you for your quick response to my request for an emergency reading for [1677] at Vassar Hospital.
[1677] was operated on for Mastoid and has been in the hospital for almost five months and is still there. The ear is still draining.
At the time I wrote you the doctors were unable to decide whether there was a brain abscess or not. During that time there was no temperature…but the child could not retain food. Two or three days later he was able to take liquids, and a day or so later a soft diet, and within a week a regular diet.
The real problem is the draining of the ears - a draining that has been going on now for several months and still continues.
R2. 9/29/38 EC’s ltr. to Mrs. [1551]:
Dear Mrs. [1551]
Thanks for yours of 26th. Letter addressed to you at the Hospital was returned, so had wondered how your boy was getting along. Certainly hope the condition clears with out further trouble - tho, a condition of that kind that starts draining and isn’t stopped soon may prove very bad. We once had something of the nature with a brother of Dr. [438] [See 750-1]. Might be well to see him if doesn’t clear soon.
Know can we be of a service - glad to try and do so
Thanking you
Sincerely, [signed] Edgar Cayce
R3. 7/27/39 Mother, Mrs. [1551]‘s letter: “You recall that I have had both a Physical Rdg. and a Life Rdg. and that your Physical Rdg. of my son, [1677], at the Vassar Hospital in Poughkeepsie more than a year ago, saved him from a brain tumor operation that the doctors at that time recommended. So I have faith that you will be able with your loving service to do something for Mrs. […]”
R4. 5/14/39 Uncle’s letter requesting a Physical Rdg. for his sister-in-law, Miss [2270]: “I immediately called my sister, [1551], as she had told me of the miracle that happened to [1677], her son.”
R5. 9/16/41 Mother requested a Physical Rdg. for Mr. [2592], saying: “I hope that you will advise me when you are to speak in N.Y. again and where as I most surely will come. I heard you at the McAlpin some three years ago. I might say, that without any ‘brain tumor operation’ such as the doctors urged at the time I got the physical reading of [1677] from you, I followed your reading, and [1677] seems to be getting along alright, with, after two years, no sign of any need of any sort of operation. This has given me great faith in your readings, as well as what I have heard through others of your readings for them.”
R6. 3/49 Mrs. [1551] was very helpful in assisting HLC with plans for the Edgar Cayce Foundation drive for funds in N.Y.C., to prepare the EC readings for availability.

B1. 9/1/38 Mother [1551]‘s letter:
Dear Mr. Casey [Cayce],
I wish that you could give an emergency reading at once for my son, [1677], who is on the second floor at the Vassar Hospital in Poughkeepsie, N.Y. I would like a VERY COMPLETE physical reading.
All sorts of tests have been given the child by the doctors there and they cannot find out the cause of the child’s illness. They feel that their staff and equipment is not adequate and are going to speak with me this Saturday about transferring him to Medical Center N.Y.C. for further observation, tests etc. The child has been so critically ill that he could not retain food, and had to be fed injections of saline solution and glucose through the arm…but now I understand he is able to retain a soft diet. The doctors there cannot pin the trouble on anything…and Dr. Hardwicke [Henry S. W. Hardwicke, M.D.] believes they have lost their nerve. The doctors there cannot diagnose, and I am coming to you and hope that in you I will find the answer to it all.
I leave there tomorrow, Friday, at noon, and will be in the hospital in the afternoon, and all of Saturday morning. If you could make the reading tomorrow, and mail it out to me tomorrow, sending it SPECIAL DELIVERY - it should reach me there in Poughkeepsie, Saturday or at latest Sunday morning. Will you please address me there as Mrs. [1551] (inasmuch as my son is [1677]) so that through the hospital I will not fail to get your letter. If you made the reading on Saturday morning at 10 AM… I would be with the child at the time and could get him to co-operate with you, as he already has heard about you and understands your work…but if you feel that it is better, as I do, to make the reading without any delay - then please do not wait for his and my co-operation, but read it just as soon as possible. If you have any rush instructions to me you can wire me collect, care of the hospital, Fri. afternoon or early Sat. AM -
