GC: You will go over this body carefully, examine it thoroughly, and tell me the conditions you find at the present time; giving the cause of the existing conditions, also suggestions for help and relief of this body; answering the questions, as I ask them:
-
EC: Yes, we have the body here.
-
Now as we find, these are rather conditions regarding which the body should be warned, than such disturbances that need correction. Preventive measures are needed, rather than correction of any great illness.
-
These disturbances have to do with the circulation, the eliminations and the assimilations of the body; though the greater distress with the body arises from a glandular disorder.
-
These then are conditions as we find them with this body:
-
First in the blood supply, - we find a tendency towards a form of anemia. This, combined with the general disturbances as we shall see, causes weakness as a reflex action in some parts of the body. These are the greater disturbances, though there are specific disorders that will be overcome with the correction of the general system - these in their major aspects would be brought near to normal coordination.
-
In the activities of the nerves, - here we find specific centers that need attention, owing to the impoverishment of the circulation. These especially are indicated in the 1st, 2nd and 3rd cervical, with the 2nd and 3rd dorsal. These are the primary sources. And if there is a coordinant activity between the nerves and muscles and supply areas to the general digestive forces, it will aid a great deal in strengthening the body forces. With the strengthening of these, many disturbances will disappear.
-
These should include, then those things that have to do with the correcting osteopathically of the areas indicated, as well as in the lower dorsal and through the sacral and the ileac plexus. These will reduce that disturbance existing in the circulation between the heart, the liver and the lung area.
-
This disturbance also makes for periods when the kidneys are affected unless there are great quantities of water taken, and there should be taken at times great quantities.
-
But at least once a day, three days a week, do take watermelon seed tea as a part of the water. This would be prepared by pouring a pint of boiling water over a tablespoonful of watermelon seed (ground or cut) and allowing it to steep. Let it cool, then strain and drink. This will clarify those conditions that cause reactions in the kidneys and bladder, for, the lack of eliminations and the slowing up of the circulation causes a greater quantity of drosses to be held in the system, and these need to be eliminated from the body.
-
More will be eliminated through using this stimuli for the kidney activity than in most any way.
-
But it is well that the osteopathic treatments be given that there may be the better throwing off of the poisons from all centers, and the stimulation in corrective measures for cleansing the glands. Thus the irregularity of the heart’s activity may be reduced and bring for the body much better strengthening influences in same.
-
As to the activities of the functioning organs, - there is shown great discernments, accomplishments in that the entity itself knows. But don’t be a “know it all.” But know to keep that which will keep the body physically and mentally in the correct relationships one portion of the body to the other.
-
More of the activities of the organs - as heart, lungs, liver and kidneys, - are reflexes, rather than being organic disturbances. The administering of the properties to act directly upon the organs will give the body more of the disturbance than exists in the present. But if there will be the osteopathic correction, and the purifying of the glandular forces, we may build the body to a normal reaction through the organs.
-
First begin, then, with taking internally one drop of Atomidine in half a glass of water each morning before breakfast for five days in succession. Then leave off five days. Then take again for three days.
-
Then begin to have the osteopathic adjustments as indicated, in the area of the 1st, 2nd, 3rd cervical, 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th and 5th dorsal, the lumbar and sacral axis. All of these then should be coordinated; not too deep a treatment in the beginning. Set up drainages that have been set in motion by the excess of the iodine (from the Atomidine) in the system.
-
Then take also, when you begin with the adjustments, the watermelon seed tea, that we may cleanse the kidneys. Flush them good. And we will rid the body of the irritating of the nervous system as related to the bladder and to the activity of the kidneys.
-
These, with normal reactions, will tend to build the body back to near normal conditions.
-
We would add the vital forces to the body as may be had from taking each day at least one quarter teaspoonful of gelatin (Knox Gelatin). This will strengthen the body. Don’t begin this until the glands are purified.
-
Then take at least once each day the vitamins B-1. Do not take A.
-
Do take D and G, but these more in the foods than supplementing in the combinations. These will bring better forces to the body; that is, in the food values take sea foods, fowl, a little lamb; not other meats. Plenty of carrots, beets, onions, lettuce, celery. Take plenty of these throughout the periods.
-
Do leave off some of those sedatives or some of those drinks or foods that have carbonated water.
-
If there is something needed for rest, use the Radio-Active Appliance - and you’ll go to sleep, and it’ll be real sleep!
-
Do these, if we would have better conditions for this body.
-
Ready for questions.
-
(Q) From a physical standpoint, are my present surroundings at my work favorable to me or would you recommend a change at present to a higher altitude doing part time work, say in a resort hotel? If so, please give suggestions as to place, etc. (A) These you have to make favorable to self, wherever you may be. If you make up your mind that they are unfavorable, all the favorable things people would say couldn’t change. If they are unfavorable, you may make up your mind to make them favorable. You can change them to be what you wish.
-
(Q) From a physical standpoint, are my present surroundings at my home favorable to me? If not, what suggestions would you make? (A) These you might apply in the same way. Of course these are hard to deal with, but if you make up your mind you’re going to - you can change them - any of the home folks - better than they can change you!
-
(Q) Do I suffer from angina of the heart or any other HEART ailment. Please answer YES or NO. I sincerely want to know if I have a HEART AILMENT. If not, what causes the pain around my heart and down my arms? Would digitalis in small doses be helpful to me? (A) No. You’re going to give it to yourself though if you keep on taking Phenobarbital!
-
(Q) What osteopath would you recommend to carry out these treatments? (A) Either of those that you would choose. For this condition especially, though, we would give Irvin.
-
(Q) How often and how many should be required? (A) In the first series we would take about ten, and about twice each week. Then we would rest from these at least three to four weeks, and then take six to ten more.
-
(Q) Should I continue taking any of the following? (A) (Interrupting) take all of them if you want to, but we have told you what to take!
-
(Q) What causes the soreness which I have had at times at the end of my rectum? (A) This comes from the sphincter nerves. When there are the adjustments this should disappear. Should it still continue, use an injection to clarify the general condition in the lower portion of the sphincter nerves:
Usoline or Nujol…1 ounce, Glycerine (in which 2 drops of Carbolic Acid has been stirred)…1 ounce.
Stir in thoroughly, and this means thoroughly stirred - not just shook around. Use this as an injection with an ear syringe.
-
(Q) Do my eye-glasses need changing, and if so, should I return to my old eye doctor? (A) We would not change until after at least the first series of adjustments have been made. Then return to the same eye doctor if you like - this is very well.
-
(Q) Are my teeth O.K. - that is - free from infection? (A) Some need local attention but nominally very good.
-
(Q) Is beer (or any other alcoholic beverage) harmful to me? (A) Read all we have given.
-
(Q) Is there anything I could do to help my mother? (A) If you’ll help yourself you’ll help your mother the most.
Let the attitude of the body be ever in that way of helpfulness for others. This is the best help for yourself. For as ye do to others ye are doing to thy Maker.
- We are through with this reading.

[Questions which did not get asked: “Would you term my ailment neuro-circulatory asthenia? What would you suggest to do for bladder irritation when I have it, and is there anything that I could do to prevent it, other than drinking lots of water, which I do?”]

R1. 10/7/43 [1695]‘s letter to EC:
Dear Mr. Cayce,
I know that you have more mail than you have time to read, but I just had to write you a line to express my appreciation again for your kindness in giving me an appointment as soon as you did. You don’t know how much it really means to me. Already I feel some better, and I know that it is largely due to the fact that my mind is greatly relieved in knowing what causes the disturbances in my body and being able to do something to relieve the condition.
I am not unmindful of how fortunate I am in having [845] and Mrs. [303] help me carry out the instructions of my reading, as they both have a greater understanding of the work than I and can give me lots of pointers.
I think it is wonderful that I have found someone who can help me. I have often heard […] and Mrs. […] say that they didn’t know what they would do if anything happened to you. I now appreciate their feelings. I came across the following poem which I think is most applicable to you:
“THE MEASURE OF A MAN”
NOT - How did he die? BUT - How did he live? NOT - What did he gain? BUT - What did he give? These are the units To measure a man, Regardless of birth. NOT - What was his station? BUT - Had he a heart? AND - How did he play His God-given part? Was he ever ready With a word of good cheer, To bring back a smile, To banish a tear? NOT - What was his church? NOT - What was his creed? BUT - Had he befriended Those really in need? NOT - What did the sketch In the newspaper say? BUT - How many were sorry When he passed away? (Author unknown)
If I were a great poet I could not write one more appropriate.
R2. 1/7/44 [1695]‘s letter to EC:
Dear Mr. Cayce:
I am not going to bore you with a long letter, as I know you have all the mail that you can possibly read, but want to ask if you can possibly give me a physical check reading in the near future. You remember some weeks ago when I was at the Beach I spoke to you and you said that you would work me in.
I am glad to say that I have improved some, but am still having some ailments, and in fact, have developed some new pains at the back of my head and neck, and for this reason, I am particularly anxious to have a check reading. I have tried to carry out my reading to the very best of my ability. The only thing I haven’t done is to have my eyes examined, which I hope to have done Saturday afternoon (tomorrow). I am anxious to know if I should continue with the osteopathic treatments.
Please drop me a line and let me know if and when you could give this check reading. I would like to be present in person again, if possible, and if it could be arranged on a Saturday afternoon, it would be fine.
I hope that you and your family had a very pleasant Christmas, and that the new year will bring forth lots of good luck, good health and happiness to you. May I add here that your Christmas bulletin was on of the most beautiful things I ever read and I passed it on to some of my friends.
I am enclosing herewith a poem [NOBILITY by Alice Cary] which I hope you will enjoy reading. To me it just covers everything in life, or I might say is true to life. It gave me a great deal of consolation the other day after having had a little disappointment.
My good wishes are with you always, and may God bless you.
Sincerely,

B2. 7/1/43 [1695]‘s letter to EC:
Dear Mr. Cayce,
You will recall treating [845], Mrs. [303] and the writer to luncheon one day this summer in Snug Harbor when you and your wife were in town. You will also remember I asked you when you could conveniently give me a physical reading and your reply was “November 1st”. I believe I then asked you to make an appointment for me on that date, but also asked you to keep me in mind and if someone should cancel an appointment in the meantime to favor me with an earlier appointment.
I understand you are just about worked to death at the present time, having calls for more appointments than you can possibly keep and I also know that you are extremely anxious to help as many as you can. I do not want to impose on good nature, nor do I want to appear too persistent, but I am writing to ask, if you possibly can, that you give me a reading sooner than the first of November, possibly when some appointment is cancelled or when some life reading is not urgent.
I shall be glad to pay you cash for your services. That may not mean a lot to you, but to me the reading will mean more than you can imagine. As I told you when you were in town, I have recently read the book - “There is a River” (thanks to [815]) and now have a much better understanding of this work.
My ailment may not be of particular interest to you, but I might state that I have been suffering with a pain around my heart now for over a year, which pain goes up my left shoulder and down my left arm and at times it just about gets me. The doctors have diagnosed it to be rheumatism, alcoholic neuritis, nervous heart, etc., and I have even had medicines given me for angina of the heart, but none of the medicines have given me any real relief.
I have a firm belief within myself that my trouble can be helped and probably entirely corrected, if only I knew what to do for myself. It is entirely possible that the trouble is coming from a pressure somewhere in the body and I am afraid if something isn’t done and the trouble runs on I might really have some serious heart trouble. Whatever the trouble is, it would be a great relief for me to know it, and to be able to help myself. I can assure you that the instructions given in a reading would be carried out to the fullest extent.
I have wanted to come down with [845] and attend some of the meetings, but transportation facilities have been so horrible and I have to get so much rest in order to work that I have been unable to do so. I would be very grateful to you if you would re-consider and see if you can possibly work me in sometime this summer.
It was a pleasure to see and talk to you and Mrs. Cayce when you were in town. Please let me hear from you. I shall remember you in my prayers.
Very sincerely, [1695]
