1. GC: You will give the relation of this entity and the universe, and the universal forces; giving the conditions which are as personalities, latent and exhibited in the present life; also the former appearances in the earth plane, giving time, place and the name, and that in each life which built or retarded the development for the entity; giving the abilities of the present entity, and that to which it may attain, and how. You will answer the questions she has submitted, as I ask them:

2. EC: (In going back over years from present - ” - ‘33 - some very hard years of understanding - ‘28 - yes - another change - ‘21 - years of great expectation - 1900 - what a largeness of the whole experience! - ” etc., on back to birth date.)

3. Yes, we have the records here, Miss [1703].

4. In giving the interpretations of the records as we find them, these are chosen with the desire to make this experience a helpful one for the entity; that in the application of those tenets which have been and are a part of the entity, there may come the greater awakening to the relationships between the entity and the Creative Forces. And, applying them in the present experience, there may be an enlargement of the vision of the entity to so live that the oneness of purpose for which the entity enters this experience may be magnified in its dealings with its fellowman.

5. The virtues, the faults are given, that there may be a better comprehending of the necessary forces and influences to bring an at-onement of itself with the Creative Forces.

6. These we find latent and manifested in the experience, - but irrespective of what the entity has in the present done about urges:

7. One versatile in many phases of material activity, owing to the application of self through material sojourns.

8. One inclined to be - or oft leaves the impression of being very hard or cold and dispassionate; yet innately the entity seeks for expression to bring love into the experience. Yet the entity so expresses self by and through its self-assertiveness as to oft leave those COLD who would seek or who feel drawn to the entity, and wondering as to what IS the impelling forces innate and manifested in the activities of this entity.

9. One especially gifted in the ability to write; and as to literary abilities.

10. And the entity may in the present write what might be called a “best seller.” Necessarily this should be both of fact AND fiction; fact told in a fictional manner; truth clothed in the message that may arouse that which IS innately sought within the inner self, - love for the UNIVERSAL consciousness of individuals or groups.

11. As to the astrological aspects, - these in the present have become of little import in the experience, or have become so contradictory - by this intent, or this application of self-assertiveness - as to become of little meaning.

12. But Venus, - beauty, artistic temperament, that especially as to the universal consciousness of love and its motivative forces becomes a part of the entity. It may or may not be applied in this present experience.

13. For, as each entity, each soul will find in its journey through materiality, it is the will in self to do this or that, or to attempt to force that which is the desire or purpose in self; and thus it may build that as may become a barrier to even that innately sought, or it may bring the awareness of the universal consciousness of love.

14. Love in its broader sense is the motivative influence, then, as to that which is creative. For love is giving, and the spirit of same is NEVER demanding.

15. Then, so long as that which is manifested is the pronouncement of self of the own self, love is kept in the background of the experience of the entity.

16. In Jupiter we find that innately there is the need of associations that may bring an awareness to great crowds, or organizations, or groups. And the abilities as an instructor or director come from those influences.

17. The tendencies and inclinations to store for a day of leanness (in ability) arise also from those conditions or phases of urging in the innate self, - as well as from the Mercurian.

18. The Uranian influences become the extremes, - as has been and is the experience of the entity through this particular or immediate sojourn.

19. These are periods when decisions are often made. Hence the entity to many becomes a SEVERE extremist, - when, as indicated in the spirit of love, it is universal and gives and takes; is patient, is kind, is forbearing, shows brotherly love.

20. For it is only in such that one becomes, in materiality, aware of the closeness of relationship to the Creative Forces or God.

21. As to the appearances in the earth, - these we find quite varied in their experience - as they are judged or would be judged by a historical fact or condition. But as we find, these are the ones that make for the innate urges in the present, - though not all, of course, are given here. For each cycle is as a grade in the experience of an entity or soul, and as application is made does the material experience become an urge in the present influence or force.

22. Before this we find the entity was in the land of the present sojourn, in the early days of the activity of the white men IN this land.

23. The entity was among those who were born in the early settlements around what is now Toledo, and journeyed to what is now known as Chicago - or Fort Dearborn, - in the name Amy Merkle.

24. In the experience the entity gained much through its study and application of those tenets of the natives of that land.

25. Hence the entity was not understood by its own peoples, - neither WHOLLY understood by those whose customs and habits the entity adopted. But nature and all of its phases of experience became the entity’s teacher, as it were. And the abilities to apply natural and nature’s sources for the healings to the body, the diversities of employment of the mental and physical beings, were impressed upon many, - even during the turmoils and strifes through the experience.

26. In the present we find that of positiveness as to nature’s ways, and the outdoors, - these become as it were a part of the entity.

27. The ability to describe such in the writing may be a channel through which the entity may find an outlet that may give expression of the longing, - for love, for companionship in the experience; and thus bring to the minds or consciousnesses of many HELPFUL influences in their experience; and also for the entity bring material security in the present.

28. Before that we find the entity was in the Holy Land, during those periods when there was the interpreting and the attempt to write or correlate those teachings of the Master, as well as of those who were in such close companionship to Him.

29. The entity was close to the younger of the disciples, John; and it was to the entity that one of his last letters was addressed, - to the lady. For to that entity, John, who should come again soon into material experience, seeks a means, a plane of expression.

30. Through those periods the entity gained in attempting to give to the various groups in the many divisions of the church, as it might be called; though not considered such in that period.

31. The name then was Cleopus.

32. From the activities in that sojourn much might be gained, if there would be the turning to the inner self for recognition of that which is the impelling force that motivated the activities of John through that experience - of which the entity caught a glimpse oft, - and yet was hardened in the experience through the disappointments not only of those in authority in the various groups or congregations but through the intent in self to impress others with the feeling of superiority owing to its close affiliation with one known and spoken of as the Beloved.

33. Understand, this is not the John, author of that called the Gospel, but rather the Epistles, the letters, - the elderly man then, - the last of those in his period PERSONALLY in association with Jesus of Nazareth.

34. Study those letters, then, for in them ye may find much that may give thee an insight into that ye have sought so often through this experience. For know, as he gave to thee in those periods of counsel, in those periods of direction, there is NO NAME given under heaven whereby men may be saved but He, the begotten of the Father, - even Jesus, the Christ!

35. Before that we find the entity was in the Promised Land when there was the return from the land of the Persians, - and with Zerubbabel the entity came into the Holy City, - saw the desolation, and the raising up of purpose in the hearts and minds of individuals through the experience; and saw and hear the interpreting of much of the law as was discovered among the ruins of the temple.

36. Hence the entity through the experience became one well-grounded, materially, in ritual and rote for a purpose of purifying body and mind, as same was designated or dedicated for any individual activity for many.

37. The entity gained, the entity lost through that experience, - as Adonajahem. For as the entity gave and let others give also, it gained. As it attempted to impel or to prevent those not so endowed with the broader vision from their class or environ, or by the heritage of the environs in a strange land, the entity lost - as it hindered others.

38. Yet in the present, if there will be the application in respect to the warnings that may be given to others for such activity, much may be met in the attempts to give instructions to others THROUGH the writing.

39. Before that we find the entity was in the Egyptian land, during those periods when there were the turmoils materially between the King and the Priest, and when the Atlanteans came into the Egyptian land during the return of the Priest and the reestablishing and rehabilitation of the land.

40. The entity was among those first born of the Atlanteans in the Egyptian land, - hence grew under those instructions and activities of Ajax, Ajalon, Ra-Ta and Araaraart, for the activities in the temple service - where all forms of the animal were rejected in relationships to sacrifice or to service in any manner.

41. Thus we find the innate urges in the entity at present, - the desires to be free from those things pertaining to that as brought so much destructive forces by the mingling of purposes of man - as in spirit - with the material and animal forces in the experience.

42. The name then was Asmyan.

43. As to the abilities of the entity in the present, then, - that to which it may attain, and how:

44. Study to show thyself approved unto God, a workman not ashamed, but rightly divining the words of truth, and keeping self - in thine own consciousness - unspotted from the world.

45. Find not fault with thy neighbor, nor thy friend, but rather by example than by precept LIVE that thou art in such a manner that when ye HAVE found the truth ye may STRENGTHEN thy brethren.

47. (Q) What was the exact time of my birth at Waterloo, Iowa? (A) The record as has been given thee is well - in the afternoon.

48. (Q) What is the reason for having so few near relatives? (A) Choice of thy forefathers.

49. (Q) What wrong living in a past life brought ill health now? How can I live, now, to make amends, and live long and well? (A) This is more thine OWN imagination than because of past experiences. But as ye apply thyself in the present to the tasks, the duties, the opportunities, these may be better unfolded to thee within.

For it is not who shall descend from heaven, or come from over the sea to bring a message, but lo, it is within thine own consciousness, and thine own mental nature. For THERE the promise is that He will meet thee, to bless thee!

And only those who have expected and do expect, and wonder at His mercies, attain the full understanding.

50. (Q) Is there a psychic, mystic, or occult reason for bad eyes? (A) Rather a psychic, - from that of race consciousness.

51. (Q) Did some karmic tie lead me to go to Egypt and into the activity following? If so, what? Will that activity yet bear results? If so, what? (A) As has been indicated.

As to results, - depends upon the application of SELF. It is within thy abilities to use. Apply same.

52. (Q) Did I contact the people or teachings in the book sent to Mr. Cayce, sealed, at the time they were taught? (A) As indicated.

53. (Q) Have I ever had any direct, first-hand experiences as to the facts of the life and death of Jesus, the Christ? (A) As indicated.

54. (Q) Which person, or group, today, has the nearest to the correct teachings of Jesus? (A) This would depend upon who is the judge. The teaching, the consciousness of the Christ-life is a PERSONAL thing. And hence they that are aware of His abiding presence are the nearer.

Who? They that walk with Him and do not, CANNOT, WILL not, force themselves on others - even as He!

55. (Q) What spiritual teacher should I follow? (A) John.

56. (Q) Or should I continue to glean here, there, and everywhere? (A) JOHN!

57. (Q) Is there a physical reason, such as congested Kundalini, curved spine, or loosely connected etheric body, or any karmic reason, for my not hearing The Voice of the Silence or getting SELF-Realization? (A) Only within self. For He has promised. He will speak if ye tune in.

58. (Q) How can I overcome it? (A) In thine own consciousness. Walk with, talk with, Him.

59. (Q) What was the significance of writing to music? Is it of importance personally, publicly, or both? (A) As has been indicated, it may be the channel or the means through which that as may be the greater work of the entity here, now, may be done.

60. (Q) Why do I feel so frustrated with life these past years? (A) Lack of the peace and calmness within.

R1. 3/13/39 Mrs. [1100]‘s letter: ”…Miss [1703] called and told me about her life reading. Seems to be quite pleased and is hoping to get down to see you. She seems to think that she is the lady to whom John wrote the 2nd Epistle, - I am under the impression that mother [1010]‘s reading said it was written to her. However I did not mention this to Miss [1703]. She is indeed a remarkable person…”

Dear Mr. Cayce:

This comes with heartiest Birthday Greetings.

The Life Reading came Monday. Have read it quite a few times. Believe it best we get together before I talk about it.

I have written to ask friends in Washington, D.C., if they are to be home Easter. If they are, it is possible that I may take my ten days holidays to drive to see them and you. Are you to be home April 11 or 12, for an hour or so with me? We might, even want a check reading on this Life Reading. I am feeling real fit for such an outing - blur still on eyes, but it does not bother driving.

Trust you have a Happy Birthday.

R4. 4/12/39 (Wed., 10 P.M.) [1703]‘s ltr. to EC:

Hampton, Va.

Dear Mr. Cayce:

You see how far I have come - had a rear tire blow out at 420 West Ocean View Ave. By the time the A.A.A. put on the spare, it was dark, so I’m here in a nice home. Have just been entertained and enlightened about local history by a charming mother and daughter - Hanger, by name. I asked a Gulf Station man about a nice place - even fresh tulips on my table. Will need a new tire, so will save hotel bills for it. Glad I was going slowly when about a foot of the side wall burst. When I got air at V. Beach, he said this tire was low. Had it happened sooner, going at 55 and 60, I’d be (maybe) calling on you when you sleep, in my astral body. Thot [thought] you’d like to know how close I came to being hurt or killed.

I’m sure I didn’t say enough - nor could I - to show my appreciation of your generosity with your spare time today. I’ll go over the Life Reading many more times with the additional data.

Perhaps, sometime, your son, Hugh Lynn, can harmonize the fact that I’m to accept the teachings of John and also the Physical Reading: the first tells one to use raw foods and no meat; the diet in the Physical Reading includes cooked food and meats. Since the little book by John was not only endorsed in the Life Reading, but also urged, as MY (John was indicated as my Spiritual guide; a raw food diet cleans the body temple; “cleanliness is next to Godliness”; raw food necessary then.) guide, in the Life Reading, that makes the Life Reading contradict and repudiate the Physical Reading, on diet. Now I’m told to use RAW foods, I suppose it’s slow suicide if I don’t. So, I’ll have to become a raw foodist or rationalize and accept suicide - fast and immediate death, or slow, with illness - as all right, depending on the motive for shortening the life on earth. Have you any data in Readings on suicide, fast or slow?

Thanks, again, for seeing me. I am so glad to have talked with you and to have met Mrs. Cayce and the others. I know the experience and information will help me to keep on keeping on till I integrate my SELVES!

Please excuse bad writing; I’m sleepy, but wanted you to know of the near accident, to set the problems on suicide and contradictions on diet in Readings for you and Hugh Lynn, and to thank you.

R5. 6/5/39 [1703]‘s letter to EC:

My dear Mr. Cayce:

Your Bulletin came and has been read with much interest. I believe I should look up and learn how much I should be paying for having my name on the list to receive this literature. I appreciate having it sent to me.

I note on page (rather SHEET) 4, the announcement of the opening of WITCHWOOD REST-HOME. With the anticipation that my opinion is not asked and is, therefore, really worthless, may I say when I read “WITCHWOOD” I said to myself, “Now, isn’t that too bad, to drag down to the level of voodooism such a high-class grade of work as you are doing in psychism!” I believe you will agree that the association of ideas is NOT good. The part “WITCH”, I most certainly think, is a sad blunder, which should be corrected at once!

As I believe one should give constructive ideas when criticizing adversely, why not make it more suggestive of what it stands for; CAYCE-WHITE CASE-HOME, or, if the part ”…WOOD” has a meaning, having a woods, for instance, why not consider CAYCE-WHITE’S HOME IN THE WOODS or CAYCE’S- WHITE’S WOODSY REST-HOME? Anyway, my hope is that you will hand this to the one responsible for naming the place so that he or she may know that ANY name should be preferred to one having a suggestion such as is conveyed by “witch.”

My plan is, now, to stay in … at home, for a number of weeks after school closes June 23, and go on a raw-food diet, with some fasting, as per Dr. Richter’s book and “The True (Unknown) Gospel of John.” I am getting more literature on that form of eliminating, once and for all, bad conditions so that, if possible, “patch work” on my body may be done with for this incarnation. I continue to hear such wonderful results obtained on uncooked foods. Of course, I would no accept such a course on just one authority, such as Life Reading’s putting me in the way of following John and this book, for such MIGHT be as much an error as stating in my Life Reading that I was born in the afternoon, as I was NOT. Trust that you have a splendid Congress.

Dear Miss [1703]

Thank you for yours of the 5th - each Ass’n member is entitled to receive the Bulletins for a year, if one becomes an Active member paying 1.00 each month they are entitled to receive the Bulletin - also the special papers that are published every three months. So you are in perfectly good standing here, just hope you find something worthwhile in the Bulletins once and awhile - know we invite comment.

As to “Witch-wood” - that is some one who has asked us to cooperate with them - we are not connected with them at all. A Dr.’s Widow - daughter of a Dr. […] - sister of several Dr.’s and so forth and so on - they came to us asking that we refer some to them they have a lovely place and registered nurses in charge - No would never choose such a name - but many people - many minds.

Our purpose is to help where ever when ever we can - hope we may through this channel.

Hope you come through with every thing just as you would have it - the reading makes a difference in physical birth and spiritual - whether that is and excuse - one determines for them selves - by their own experience. Several have arrived already for the Congress - wish we might have you with us, Heard from Mrs. Mason - Grace seems to be getting along fine now - taken up playing in S. S. and like. Hope she is permanently cured.

”…I had a letter, pages and pages and pages long, from Miss [1703]. She sent me the little book called “The Unknown Gospel of John” and copied all the things one of your readings said about it. I have not yet had time to give the book more than a very hurried reading, but if Jesus said all the things credited to him in it about food, then we should eat no meat, no cooked food of any sort. Also we should wear no clothes either summer or winter… I am a bit dubious about Miss [1703]‘s little book. What do you think of it? I understand she gave you a sealed copy and you did not look at it until after the reading in which she asked the questions about it.

“I have not had time to really read all of Miss [1703]‘s long letter yet, much less answer it, but I will do both over the week-end if possible. She seems a very sincere and earnest seeker…”

Please give us below a report on your Life Reading, 1703-3, March 8, 1939:

As far as the Life Reading has affected me, it may as well be for some fictitious character, read with interest but not concern. In parts I can see it fits me, sadly enough I’m sorry to say. But, as far as the Reading meaning much to me, if it has, it is yet to be manifested in the future. I must have fallen far from Grace if I ever were the personalities named in it, and as yet, see no way to make the better phases of such personalities Live again in me.

Dear Ones in this Work:

Perhaps if you are in California again before long, I can drive into Los Angeles to meet you. At 81, you may want to compare my way-of-life with Readings by Edgar Cayce in October and December, 1938 and a Life Reading [1703-3] this 8th day of March, 1939.

Later I drove to Virginia Beach to meet Mr. Cayce; perhaps a religious picture for the wall is still in use there, that was sent after my fine visit.

For my library, “A Search for God”, “There is a River - The Edgar Cayce Story” number 158, autographed by Edgar Cayce and MANY MANSIONS.

A recent physical upset like in 1938 led me to get out my readings recently. Mr. and Mrs. C. W. Dillman were in Detroit, Michigan, at that time and aided very much in the details for the physical advice in the reading. I often wonder of their whereabouts today - would surely like to see them! He then was with Koppers Co., Pittsburg, Penna. A note June 2, 1939, is the last I heard from them.

Of recent years, poems have been printed in certain magazines, that “go along” with my exegesis of Bible. In the Life Reading, advice for a book - but I do not have the large amount $ demanded before publishing a story, title: - “CAT-RAT COALITION”. Thanks for your Reading this bit of data; am busy typing about 160 of these Easter Cards; for a long time, I have sent out “meaningful” Christmas and Easter Messages.
