This psychic reading given by Edgar Cayce at his home on Arctic Crescent, Virginia Beach, Va., this 16th day of December, 1938, in accordance with request made by the brother-in-law, Mr. […], through Mr. [437], Active Member of the Ass”n for Research & Enlightenment, Inc.

Time of Reading Convalescent Home, 3:45 to 3:55 P. M. Eastern Standard Time. …, Mass.

1. GC: You will go over this body carefully, examine it thoroughly, and tell me the conditions you find at the present time; giving the cause of the existing conditions, also suggestions for help and relief of this body. You will answer any questions which may be asked regarding his condition, as I ask them:

2. EC: Yes.

3. As we find, the weaknesses - which are produced from the effect of the activities and the administrations to the body - arise from the lack of the ability of the assimilated forces to be distributed through the system to strengthen the body.

4. Rather than interfering with those present administrations given, we would advise that there be added the use of the Ultra-Violet as a MEANS of producing a better coordination between the superficial and the deeper circulation. This would be most effective. This should be given about a minute or a minute and a half, at least every other day. In giving the Ultra-Violet, we would use the Mercury Quartz Light, rather than just the Carbon Light.

5. Once in a week, as we find, the Infra-Red Ray would be well, - or that as will heat, or be the more or deeper piercing to the structural portions; and this given for thirty minutes once a week would be the most beneficial, - as combined with the other applications.

6. These we would do, - and with the considerations as given to the food values, as they are administered.

7. Combined with these, we would give the Beef JUICES. Not the beef itself, but the JUICES. This would make for the better conditions for this body. Use no fats in preparing same. Let this be just SIPPED. Half a teaspoonful, or less, would be sufficient; given as medicine, every twenty minutes.

8. The strain upon the blood system may require that there be a transfusion, but if a sip of the Beef Juice is given about every twenty minutes, this we find should NOT become necessary, - unless there are further sinking spells.

9. Do that.

R1. 12/19/38 Mr. [437]‘s letter to EC: “I have prepared a set of questions on which I would like to have a check reading in the [1760] case. These questions are based on a memorandum given to me by Mr. […] [[1760]‘s brother-in-law].

1. What causes difficulty with eyesight and what can be done to help this condition?
2. What causes difficulty with speech?
3. Why is body irascible and excited?
4. What causes impediment in speech and why is same at times unintelligible?
5. What is direct cause of weakness in hands and why is body unable to hold anything in his hands?

“The condition of this man seems to be very serious and I would like to expedite this information if it is possible to do so. Perhaps some other reading which is not quite as urgent could be postponed and this one done real soon.

“It is impossible for Mr. [1760] to make this application direct but his sister, Mrs. […] is the one seeking this information and is thoroughly acquainted and in sympathy with the work.

“I am enclosing herewith a check to cover the check reading and you need not verify the location as [1760] is in the same location as given before and will not be moved.

“I received your letter this morning for which accept my thanks. I have sent [son [949]] the name of the doctor recommended by Dr. Dobbins.

“Hope this finds you and the family well…”

R2. 12/19/38 Mr. [437]‘s letter enclosed this account of Mr. [1760]‘s condition by his brother-in-law as of 12/16/38:

“Condition of patient December 16, 1938:

“Eyesight poor - keeps left eye closed. He is not blind, but complains his eyes do not focus correctly.

“Up to three weeks ago when he was taken to the hospital for observation he sat up, could not read, was excited and irascible and talked very loud and with great difficulty, though he could be understood. But now he is almost unintelligible. Only a word now and then can be caught. At that time he could walk with difficulty, stumbling and sometimes falling. Since the sojourn in the hospital and now in the nursing home, he has been kept in bed. He has to be fed for he cannot hold anything in his hands and spills his food. He chokes while drinking, also coughs and this obtained as long ago as last summer. He cries a great deal.

He is for the most part quite rational, though his mind wanders at times. At first he occupied a large lower floor room at the nursing home, but has been removed to a more secluded room on the third floor because of complaints that he was restless, noisy and even screamed aloud at night.

“He has great difficulty in breathing. The latest report is that he takes a deep breath and then does not breathe again for a half or whole minute and then starts breathing again. This report is from his wife who may not be accurate as to length of time between breaths. He has a fear of being left alone. He has to be coaxed to eat. Some days he is more rational than others.

“This seems to be as fully informative as possible…”

R3. 12/19/38 Mr. [437]‘s secretary’s letter to EC:

“Supplementing Mr. [437]‘s letter of even date the following questions were omitted.

6. Why does body cough a great deal?
7. Why does body cry at times?
8. Why the great difficulty in breathing?

“These questions, of course, should have been asked in the letter sent to you previously today by Mr. [437]…”
