This Psychic Reading given by Edgar Cayce at his home on Arctic Crescent, Virginia Beach, Va., this 30th day of December, 1938, in accordance with request made by the self - Mr. [1772] new Associate Member of the Ass”n for Research & Enlightenment, Inc., recommended by Miss [805].
[Edgar Cayce; Gertrude Cayce, Conductor; Gladys Davis, Steno.]
Time of Reading 10:45 to 11:05 A. M. Eastern Standard Time. N.Y.C.
-
GC: You will go over this body carefully, examine it thoroughly, and tell me the conditions you find at the present time; giving the cause of the existing conditions, also suggestions for help and relief of this body. You will answer the questions he has submitted, as I ask them:
-
EC: Yes.
-
Now as we find, disturbing conditions in this body may be said to be both general or constitutional as well as acute.
-
These then have a source of disturbance in the general health and body-replenishing forces of the system, as well as by the specific disturbances that are acute - with or combined with the general disturbance.
-
We find that these arise from lack of proper coordination in the eliminating system, caused by disturbances as we shall see, - of both a functional and of what may be termed a static nature.
-
Then, these are the conditions as we find them with this body, [1772] we are speaking of:
-
In the blood supply we find the indications of the lack of eliminations - that is, properly distributed; as well as toxic forces which arise from too frequent acid conditions existent throughout the activity of the assimilating and eliminating system.
-
Thus we have the inclinations for uremic reactions; and through the subluxations and general impoverishment to the organs of the sensory system, and disturbance with the organs of same, - as in the eye and auditory nerves.
-
These have become more acute in the optic forces owing to the very nature or position of the subluxation in the cervical and vagus centers area.
-
These have produced the inflammatory forces to both the sockets or lids AND the eyeball, as well as a strain upon the optic nerve itself. And these cause then the form of granular disturbance to the eyelids, as well as to the cornea and to the filament about the eye and the filling of the lachrymal duct that causes the oiling or the flow of the lymph through the duct to the eyeball itself.
-
All of these become a part.
-
Then, as indicated, it is a constitutional as well as a specific disturbance.
-
These as we find may be MATERIALLY aided, if there are the proper precautions and the proper applications for aiding.
-
The general conditions, as indicated, affect the digestive system; and - with the general disturbance which has been for some time a part of the disorder - the gall duct and liver area, as well as the fullness in the lower hepatic circulation, as well as the glands through which the activity from the flow from the kidneys is a part of the general disturbances from conditions which existed long, long ago - and a part of an old stricture is a part of the disturbance.
-
As we find then, in making for better conditions, a general as well as a specific application would be the more beneficial for this body.
-
The first consideration is not to overtax or use the eyes under great stress or strong light, or too fine a print, or too fine a work that requires long usage of the eyes.
-
It is well to consider also the assimilating or digestive system, as will make for the producing of a GENERAL alkalinity through the body; stimulating those activities of the lacteals to a better coordination between the lachrymals and the acids in the lower portion of the stomach.
-
Hence after each meal, for at least a week, we would use a quarter teaspoonful of Alcaroid as a digestant.
-
Have osteopathic adjustments made in the Dobbins manner; the coccyx, the lumbar center or axis, and a coordinating of those areas especially where the subluxations exist in the vagus centers - both the cervical and the dorsal.
-
Set up drainages, as it were, by the manipulation; stimulating the activity of the glands around the throat and thorax, as well as those parts of the head and across the temple and to the nasal passages; so that the drainages from these will not be such as to cause greater quantities of acidity through the constant dripping as it were of the refuse to the passages.
-
These would be given about twice a week for three to four weeks, then a rest period from same of a week or ten days, and then MORE of the adjustments and manipulations - and greater will be the improvement to the eyes, to the digestion, to the nasal passages, and to the general eliminations, - if all of these are followed in the manner indicated.
-
Use a spray of a mild antiseptic, such as Glyco-Thymoline diluted, for nose and throat.
-
Keep the diet to a better alkaline reaction, and we will find greater improvement.
-
After there have been the first three to four weeks of the osteopathic adjustments, it would be well to use every other day - during the week or ten days of rest from the osteopathy - the low electrical vibration to the cerebrospinal system, as well as the head and neck and to the optics themselves, from the Violet Ray (hand machine, bulb applicator; though using the Double-Eye Applicator over the eyes; not too strong, and not more than half a minute at the beginning).
-
During the periods of the osteopathic adjustments and treatments, it is well that one or two high colonic irrigations be given in the Reilly manner, for the removal of mucous and the accumulations of waste through the colon area.
-
Do these.
-
Ready for questions.
-
(Q) Is a cathartic good for me? (A) Better if there is the ability to use oils AND enemas, rather than cathartics, - because these tend to congest or to cause disturbance in both the upper and lower hepatic circulation.
-
(Q) Any local application for the eye condition? (A) Only a mild wash for same of mornings.
-
We are through with this Reading.

R1. 1/5/39 HLC’s letter from NYC:
Thursday
Dear Family:
You can well imagine that I have been keeping pretty busy since getting back. I am going night and day. Beginning next week my time is going to be scheduled so as not to get all tangled up and tired out. It is quite easy to do up here.
Part of the time I spend seeing people about readings and part on program. During the past week I have been interviewing quite a few psychics of various kinds. Some interesting. But lets start back a few days ago and come up to date.
Last Thursday I saw and talked with Miss Horton [Evelyn Millicent Horton] - nice person. She had several good stories. Friday I saw [1758] and [1804]. As I told you Dad over the phone [1758] was greatly pleased. Hope he will get results. He has been in touch with Taylor and Dobbins to check up on other case of similar character. Friday night talked with man who had several stories for program and then went to forum.
Saturday morning I wrote letters. Saturday afternoon went to Judy’s party [Julia Chandler]. She had nice group of interesting people in - newspaper people, actors, psychics, etc.
Sunday morning I slept and then dictated for four hours in the afternoon to [1786], the young woman who is working off her reading. Assoc letters. Sunday night went to spiritualists meeting with Horton. Fair.
Monday - broadcast.
Tuesday I went to see a man by name of Greenberg, a publisher who wants to do a book on the program. Book as planned now will include about 12 interesting stories, my notes and opinions by W. and H. [Lucien H. Warner, Ph.D; Henry S. W. Hardwicke, M.D.?]. It will be out by spring. Hope to take advantage of program publicity.
Would like to have time for reading to ask some questions on all angles of developments up here. Let me know date set and I’ll send them down and keep time. Will split three ways with W. and H. but am happy that will be able to get little something out of it all for them. Publisher quiet enthused but W. has good connection also, so will get best proposition.
Had dinner Tuesday night with Miss [805] and Mr. [1772]. That was a peach of a reading for [1772]. Hit him exactly and he was pleased with it. Is following it carefully. We went to the Ambassador, one of the smartest places in town to eat a 3.00 dinner with 3.00 more for cover. They are going to take me later to St. Regis.
Am spending afternoon today with Murphy [Gardner Murphy, Ph.D.] at Columbia on a machine he is working on to record clairvoyant experiments. Will have dinner with Mrs. Gray and niece [Lydia J. Schrader Gray, Lorraine Schrader].
Yesterday (Wed.) went to Newark with Dr. Taylor [Wm. D. Taylor, N.D.] to a psychic. Not very good. Last night to Nesta Cranes also a medium. She is better and will later want reading on her work expect. Trance. Described Edith’s [Edith Edmonds] passing very well condition and fact of being asleep, at time. Will have dinner with Judy tomorrow.
Stories, over week-end and then will get straight for more work at Daves.
Was glad to hear that Edith did not linger on. Know it must have been bad but better that way. Wired Florence.
Congratulate Helen for me. Hope it works and imagine it will this time [Helen Storey Wheeler married A. Marsden Godfrey].
Have to run out to lunch now. Will be careful Muddie.
You all pray for me now and then as need it. Things are moving. Dave in Chicago and will wait on board meeting until he gets back.
by now. [signed] Hugh Lynn
R2. Undated note from Walter Anderson:
I read this to Dave Kahn today & am sending him a copy; - this daily is the “Bible” of the COMMERCIAL radio production world (sponsors, ad. agencies); this is a GOOD “Critical” review. W.A.

“Mysteries of the Mind”
Program is heard on WOR, Sundays, 2-2:30 p.m. as a sustaining show dealing with the popular subject of telepathy. Inevitable comparison arises with last season’s Zenith-sponsored telepathy series and, judging from the opening shot, this new show can stand improvement.
Several authorities on the subject of telepathy are grouped in the studio to discuss pros and cons of various “cases” which are dramatized. Experts take the floor after each sketch, and while this method has advantages, more care in the production would have aided the proceedings generally.
Care not only in the production and casting, which were in need of considerable improvement, but in the selection of “cases” is in order.
Idea, however, is of broad appeal and a sharpening of the production should made it a saleable show.
R3. 3/2/39 [1772]‘s reply to Questionnaire:
ASSOCIATION FOR RESEARCH AND ENLIGHTENMENT, INC., Virginia Beach, Virginia
Date of Reading: 12/30/38 Case No 1772-1
Note: As a research organization we are endeavoring to make a thorough study of psychic information in relation to human ailments. We will deeply appreciate your cooperation in securing a thorough report on this case.
Name: [1772]
(1) (a) Did the Reading presented to you describe the condition of the patient? (b) Explain any variation (c) Give technical diagnosis. (a) Yes. (b) No variation. (c) Optic Nerve Atrophy.
(2) Were the suggestions for treatments in your opinion proper for this condition? Yes.
(3) For what period of time has the patient followed directions given in the Reading under your care? 6 weeks.
(4) What results have you observed? In this condition we look for definite progress until vision is lost. Apparently the destructive process is at an end & whether or not vision will be entirely regained is something that time alone will tell. It is very encouraging.
(5) Comment. [no response]
