This psychic reading given by Edgar Cayce at his home on Arctic Crescent, Virginia Beach, Va., this 30th day of September, 1936, in accordance with request made by those present.

1. GC: You will have before you the Health Home Remedies Corp., offices in the Essex Bldg., Plume and Bank Sts., Norfolk, Va., its handling of Ipsab, Tim, Appliances and other products, also its officers Douglas T. Johnston, President, of the Graybar Bldg., N.Y.C., and H. L. Cayce present in this room and T. B. House, Manager, present in this room. You will consider the desired objectives of this corporation and advise us regarding its affairs as questions regarding various features of its work are asked.

2. EC: Yes, we have the purposes of the Health Home Remedies Corporation, together with its officers, its products, and those conditions as confront the organization in the present.

3. In considering this in the beginnings, first - as we would find - there should be prepared, as an objective, first a series of letters, papers or data respecting its products and the purposes for same, together with the invitation of others that may be interested to become associated or to purchase stock in same. And this not sent once but regular series of same, to be at least half a dozen or a dozen of such letters, pamphlets, data, or all. Included with these letters may be the folders that represent or present those claims that have been made or may be made as respecting the varied products. This, to be sure, may include the Ipsab, not as a combination but each of these as separate data; Tim, Radio-Active Appliance - all of these; and the data gathered on all of these but separate should be included in same.

4. This to be sure will require considerable thought, and then be persistent in the sending out of same to first the members of the Association old and new, prospective ones.

5. Then when there has been a COMPLETED (and not before) report from the varied sources on Ipsab, Tim, these then would be advertised in selected periodicals, especially such as reach rather the rural than the closed centers.

6. Then carried on for sufficient period for the returns that naturally will come, and there may be expected a great increase in the amount that may be distributed through this manner.

7. There may be used this same formula for a preparation then that would only be distributed through the dental profession, not the same name but the same product. This also, as in that as advertised, then may be made through an association and connections with certain of the chain stores; as a distributing center. This to be sure under that name of the Ipsab.

8. As to the officers and their associations, their connections with same, this to be sure as outlined falls naturally more particularly upon the local representative or Manager in the office, and will require that there be set a definite program, with the meeting together occasionally of the other officers, that there is a budgeting not only of the expenditures but these should and will - if handled properly - not only pay for themselves but make for sufficient returns in stock sales, in the product itself (as with others that may be added), that will make for - as has been given - eventually sufficient to - well, handle most any situation; a fortune for four or five anyway.

9. Ready for questions.

10. (Q) Considering the recent resignation of Mr. Dale Parker, of 120 Broadway, N.Y.C., as Treasurer and Trustee, what steps are advisable at this time regarding the selection of another treasurer and other members of the Board of Trustees? (A) This is a natural routine that should come before a general Board meeting. As we find this may be considered as expedient upon the part of Parker for other sources and other reasons, but may be held in the same office by those that may be designated by same or by the combined effort of the attorneys, the other officers and the President.

11. (Q) Do we understand correctly that no advertising of Ipsab in the rural periodicals should be begun until we receive the reports from the American Dental Association? (A) Correct.

12. (Q) Would it be best to wait until receiving the report from the American Dental Association before introducing Ipsab to the individual dentists, or push this product for testing by individual local dentists without waiting for this report? (A) Push the experiments and the tests by local dentists. For there is of necessity, through the research of the American Dental Association, the asking of questions to the local dentists that may be aware of or to whom it may be presented.

The MORE these may be had, the better, not only locally but wherever an honest test will be made.

13. (Q) Is there any further data which may be sent the American Dental Association which will insure a good report in their tests on Ipsab? (A) Only those may be added, each report had verbally or written, and preferable to be sure written from dentists of THEIR experiment with same.

14. (Q) What reports are necessary for Tim before beginning the advertising in rural publications? (A) As much as possible have at least six to twelve reports from physicians and individuals, and at least one or three proctologists.

15. (Q) What name should be used for Ipsab for dentists alone? (A) This may be best chosen as the reports are received, and when it’s begun with others, and obtain the suggestions from the dentists that use same, and then present their suggestions, and we will give.

16. (Q) What dentists in Norfolk would be most likely to work with this? (A) Ask every one!

17. (Q) You will consider the attempt to place Tim in Suffolk, Va., thru Hall Drug Co. Please tell us if Tim should be started in small communities in this manner and just how much and what type of advertising will be most effective. If some other method of presentation is advisable, please advise. (A) As has been indicated. First prepare the pamphlets, letters and data on each - NOW, see? This has nothing to do with the research being made. These will not be printed in such large quantities as to become a loss. If the period when the letters are to be sent is set for thirty days, don’t wait thirty-two - but send them in thirty days! If they are to be sent every forty days, send in forty, not thirty-nine or forty-two! This means, then, that these prepare the way, not only for advertising - as has been indicated - in the rural districts but in the local or the interstate activities.

Then ALL manners, all means; as of placing in local stores. For in the data sent always insist that the individual ask the local druggist, and telling him where it may be obtained! You have then a two-edged way that you are advertising. You will have people seeking as well as preparing them for seeking. Do not insist that they continue to write to the Essex Building, but to their LOCAL people - and if not obtained they can obtain same.

This is the manner in which it is to be presented.

Be careful in the preparation of the letter, the folder, the data on each product. Let it be in keeping with the style, the type of the carton and the manners in which it is to be distributed. Make them distinctive, and then they will take care of themselves if handled ON TIME! DO NOT put off or put on! Do as has been given!

18. (Q) Consider the combination of the Animated Ash and Iodex [See 1800-30 naming it Anidax] for various sores on the body. Advise us what proportions should be used of each and how these should be put together. (A) The Animated Ash, as has been given, is an electrifying product that localizes conditions for the effectiveness of oxygen acting upon the system.

Then the quantity, as has been given. To half an ounce add three to five grains. This is to be worked in as by a mixture, or as by a mortar and pestle, or as in making for the thorough mixing of same.

Do not attempt to heat, for this would only make loss of the effectiveness of the Ash and also would localize the Ash by its natural attraction.

19. (Q) Should the Ash dissolve in the Iodex? (A) Try to dissolve it! You cannot dissolve it by water, heat, alcohol. You may only dissolve this - prepared properly - in heated mercury - and we don’t want to use it with mercury!

20. (Q) Just what should be explained to a doctor in requesting him to test the product as to type of conditions to use it on, etc? (A) Hemorrhoids; any character of sores that make for a fusion of the nature where there is a breaking up of the coordination in the circulation in the system. Or - well, to some this would be Greek, but this is what you are asking, if you want to know what you are trying to do!

The superficial circulation and the deeper or internal circulation BREAKS. There is the attempt of the superficial circulation to eliminate poisons, see? And this then is the CHARACTER of condition to be treated. This may be used then on acne, itch, scabs, sore feet, or any of those natures; as well as certain forms of eczema or even the first stages of cancer.

21. (Q) Should this be put on a pad over the place or simply massaged on? (A) Simply massaged.

22. (Q) I hold in my hand a solution container with the hollow lead wire in same eaten away by the ten percent solution of Nitrate of Silver. Please tell us what caused this and what precautions should be taken to prevent this in the future, where Nitrate of Silver is used? (A) That’s correct, and these will naturally have to be replaced each time the solution is changed.

This requires a period of some sixteen to twenty-eight days for these to be acted upon. If they did not act upon same, then they are not giving them the vibrations from same! Don’t think that this will not eat it! It does!

23. (Q) Any suggestions for the Manager at this time? (A) As has been outlined, there’s a pretty big job - but stick to it, you’ll go through!

Dear Mr. Parker:

Enclosed you will find a copy of the reading on the HHR Corp. which we obtained this morning. The reading in itself is pretty detailed as to suggestions constituting a complete plan of operations. These suggestions seem very sensible to me. I will be very glad to have your comments. You can depend on it that they will be followed carefully.

Mr. Johnston informed me by letter yesterday that he might spend Sunday here at the Beach. If he is able to do this we will work out the details as outlined in the reading, including the number and time for the series of letters and the first rural advertising steps through small papers.

I am hoping that some arrangement can be made to keep the office of treasurer in New York as I feel that a New York address for subscriptions will be much better than a local one. The reading seemed to indicate that someone might act at your direction, or that some arrangement might be worked out between you, Mr. Johnston and the lawyer. Perhaps Mr. Dawson, will have some suggestion on the matter.

I will write you again after talking with Mr. Johnston on Saturday.

Several months ago I sent you a letter and a prospectus regarding the Health Home Remedies Corporation. At this time I would like to take this matter up with you in more detail and if possible secure your advice and cooperation.

For many years a number of formulae for specific remedies have appeared reportedly in the psychic readings given by my father. In individual cases these remedies proved so helpful that we undertook to obtain commercial formulae for distribution to the public. The Health Home Remedies Corporation was formed to place these products on the market. Specifically, the products now receiving attention are: IPSAB, a remedy for Pyorrhea; T-I-M, a remedy for Hemorrhoids; and the Radio Active Appliances. The two fundamental purposes of this Corporation may be expressed briefly as follows: (1) To make available to the masses remedies which have been proven to be of value; (2) To secure funds for the philanthropic and psychic research activities of the Association.

Two of our members, Mr. Douglas T. Johnston and Mr. Dale Parker interested themselves in the Health Home Remedies Corporation. Mr. Parker subscribed to 25 shares of the Preferred Stock at once thus enabling us to open offices in Norfolk, Virginia and proceed with necessary laboratory and clinical tests with local physicians. Results of these tests are proving highly satisfactory.

Following the suggestions from a recent reading we are now preparing a series of letters to members of the Association explaining in detail the progress made on each of the products and offering Preferred Stock to those who care to purchase it. Eighty-five percent of the Common Stock, which, as you will see, is the voting stock, has been turned over to the Association for Research and Enlightenment, Inc. My father holds ten percent of the remaining common stock and I hold the final five present.

Mr. Dale Parker has found it necessary to resign as Treasurer and Director of the Health Home Remedies Corporation. He has assured us, and his actions prove this I think, that he will in no way lessen his interest and cooperation. I have assured Mr. Parker’s duties as Treasurer but we need another individual as Director. Such a person we feel should not only be interested in the work of the Association as a psychical research body but should also be sympathy with the high ideals which we believe should always be the paramount consideration.

We believe that in developing the Health Home Remedies Corporation we are undertaking a proposition which will require considerable sound business judgment.

We would appreciate it very much if you will give this matter you careful consideration. We would like for you to become a Director of the Health Home Remedies Corporation.

Before coming to a decision on this matter please see and talk with Mr. Johnston, and if you desire with Mr. Parker. Mr. Johnston will call you and arrange to see you. He will also be glad to arrange for you to meet Mr. Parker.

In considering this proposal please keep the following points in mind:

1. The products being presented will be advertised ONLY on actual merit based on: Individual tests; and Physicians’ tests.

2. Our first consideration is the rendering of a service to thousands through relieving suffering. We are able to reach only individuals with the individual psychic reading.

3. Our second consideration is the securing of funds for carrying on the work of the Association for Research and Enlightenment, Inc. This work is primarily philanthropic, educational and spiritual enlightenment.

4. The information received in the readings given by my father have always emphasized the value of these specific remedies, indicating that through IPSAB alone sufficient funds for carrying on a vast program for the Association could be secured.

5. If properly handled this company offers a good investment on Preferred Stock for the individual is: (1) Making possible a service to thousands of people who suffer; (2) Aiding the work of the Association; and (3) Investing in a conservative, firmly established (on the basis of results) project.

Enclosed you will find a copy of our original prospectus which will give you more details of the organization. I will be glad to answer any questions and I am sure Mr. Johnston and Mr. Parker will be glad to go over any details with you.

Enclosed you will find a copy of my letter to Mr. Harrison. Please call him and follow this up as soon as you have the opportunity. He has been out of New York, I understand, but should be in the city again by the time this reaches you.

I am also enclosing a copy of the contract between my father and the Association.

The full course of nine letters is ready here and will be mailed to you today or tomorrow. Both House and I have worked over these letters. It is hard to keep them from too much repetition. At the present they are worded so as to run in series of threes, that is, three on IPSAB, three on T-I-M, etc.

Do you want me to write up the minutes of our last meeting and send them up to you or do you want to handle this there. I have the minute book, as you know. Too, we have to sign some sort of waive notice on the meeting, do we not?

I have attended to the matter of Mr. Poole’s stock.

We received a check for the first payment on a share from Mr. Dillman [Charles W. Dillman]. I understand that they are going to take a couple of more shares also.

We are making plans to be in New York for a couple of weeks in November. Details are as follows:

We will drive up to New York November 2. Mother, Dad, and Miss Davis wills stay with Mr. and Mrs. Kahn, 20 Woods Lane, Scarsdale, New York. The opportunity to be near but not in New York for a couple of weeks will be much better than previous arrangements which have been hard on my father. While the appointments will not be so numerous as usual I do not consider this a disadvantage as personally feel that the readings are better when my father is not rushed and nervous.

I am malling notices regarding the New York trip to our members in the vicinity with the Bulletin which will go out this coming Monday, the 26th. Appointments will be made through Mr. Kahn’s office Lexington 2-7680.

Among special arrangements I am writing Warner for whom we will get one research reading before leaving here and on the light and suggestions in it have him follow up with at least one reading per week. I feel that it is much better when he can be present. Dr. Warner is a good friend of Dr. Gardner Murphy, Associate Professor of Psychology at Columbia. Dr. Murphy is very much interested in psychical research. He has an excellent article on Telepathy in the current American Magazine. I am hoping that we will meet him and that he will have the opportunity of seeing some readings.

I am not going to stay in New York this time as I feel that it is most important that our literature be put in shape. These pamphlets on which I am working are taking shape but there is too much source material in the readings here to take to N.Y. I am going to drive back to the Beach on Thursday, November the fifth. I will call you at the office and arrange to see you if there are any matters regarding the H.H.R. or the Association requiring our attention.

Please let me have your suggestions regarding any matters that I may be able to take of while in New York. If Mr. Harrison is in town it might be well to have a meeting with him on the H.H.R. I hope you will have had the opportunity of seeing him before that time.

I believe that House will have things in shape to appear before the local group of the Am. Dental Association within two weeks. On the basis of reports from three of its local members - excellent reports by the way - he should be able to give IPSAB a good send off locally and also furnish good background for the National report. It is either “play ball” with them or fight and as the product is so good it seems best to “play ball” though the road is a bit longer, but not as expensive as fighting with advertising.

We are looking for the first frost, but so far it looks more like summer here than winter. The changes are quick though and with the first one we will get to work on the hair curler.

Mr. Franklin F. Bradley has just advised me that he is sending me the machine which he uses to make the ash. I will of course place this at the disposal of the company. It is the only one in existence and cost Mr. Bradley a bit of money to perfect with any number of readings. We will now have complete and entire control of the carbon ash out put. Mr. Bradley passed this machine on to me as a personal gift. He indicates that he does not have the time to make up the ash. [See 6/70 ltrs. re ash Par. R21 and R22 below.]

Would you consider it necessary or advisable to talk with Mr. Parker about the letters to go out? House did not send his copies. Testimonials are being printed and letter heads and envelopes. We will do our own mimeographing as soon as the letters come back and we have the reading.

Dear Mr. Parker:

We have just completed plans for a trip to New York in November. Mother, my father, and Miss Davis will be with Mr. and Mrs. David E. Kahn, 20 Woods Lane, Scarsdale, N.Y., for two or three weeks after November.

We are driving up on November 2nd, and the family will remain in Scarsdale for the period of the trip. I plan to return here to the Beach on Thursday, November 5th. If possible I would like to see you either on Tuesday or Wednesday, November 3rd or 4th. I will get in touch with you at your office Tuesday morning.

Work here is pretty well piled up with several pamphlets in process of preparation and much of the material can not be moved from the files that I expect to use. I will drive up again when the family are ready to come home and may stay for a day or so then.

We are hoping that the arrangements to be outside of the city proper will not work a hardship on those desiring readings. It is certain that my father will be much better off in quiet surroundings.

As I do not have your phone number we are arranging for reading appointments to be made through Mr. Kahn’s office, phone Lexington 2-7680, or direct by note % Mrs. Lucille Kahn, 20 Woods Lane, Scarsdale, New York. We deeply appreciate Miss Benner’s assistances in this matter in the past, but I am mailing notices with the Bulletin and so must get them out at once.

Dr. Warner of Duke will have a series of readings while my father is in New York. I think it best that he be present for them when possible. We are hoping that it will be possible. We are hoping that it will be possible to meet Dr. Gardner Murphy, Associate Professor of Psychology at Columbia, who is a very good [friend?] of Dr. Warner. Incidentally did you see the article on Telepathy by Gardner Murphy in the current American Magazine? If not you will enjoy it.

The nine letters for H.H.R. Corp. are written, the testimonials are being printed in small folders, the envelopes are being addressed and we plan one more reading to check on the letters during the coming week. If all goes well the first one will be underway by the first week end in November, timed to arrive with the Monday and Tuesday mails. The subsequent eight will follow at two or three week intervals. Any suggestions on the spacing?

Everything looks promising for a presentation of IPSAB at the November meeting of the local Dentists’ Association on the basis of reports from three of its members. We will have an excellent local background and also good connections for the complete reports from the national association.

We are looking for the first frost to try the hair curler again, but so far it looks anything but wintery down here. With the first one we will begin work at once and if it works you will probably hear us in New York.

May I say a word in appreciation of the place the Health Home Remedies Corporation is able to fill in the work that I have been undertaking for a number of years?

Where specific instructions are given for Appliances, the Corporation offers a channel through which individuals may obtain same prepared in the proper way and manner.

Also the Corporation offers a channel and a means through which special compounds that have been given for specific conditions may be prepared and distributed.

This, I think, fulfills one of the ideals and purposes of the Association, in that it PASSES ON TO OTHERS THAT WHICH WE HAVE FOUND GOOD IN OUR OWN EXPERIENCE!

Therefore, I predict that the Health Home Remedies Corporation will not only fill a place in the experiences of a great many of the members of the Association, but will prove a boon to humanity in the distribution of these specifics.

Dear Hugh Lynn:

This is in reply to your letters of October 19th and October 22nd.

I telephoned Mr. Harrison this morning and tried to arrange to have him lunch with me some day this week. Unfortunately he is tied up until Friday and then leaves for White Sulphur Springs for two or three days. He is to let me know, however, when he has some free time and I will call upon him at his office and see if I can persuade him to become a director of HHRC in accordance with your letter.

The series of nine letters was duly received. While most of the information that we want to send out is in them I think that their form can be considerably improved even at the expense of some delay. I am, therefore, taking the liberty of having them reviewed by a specialist in this kind of work. Since our objective is to secure rather substantial subsciptions, it seems to me that we are justified in doing as good a job as possible with these letters. I do not know how quickly I can have the revisions completed. If it is possible to send them to you before the end of this week and before you leave for New York I will do so. Otherwise I will try and have them for you on your arrival here.

I would appreciate it if you would write the minutes of the last meeting sending me a copy of them here. As to the necessity for a waiver of notice, my recollection is that according to the by-laws Mr. Parker’s resignation became effective upon its receipt by us and not upon its acceptance by the Board. This meant that you and I were the only directors of the company at the time of the meeting. My further recollection is that there is a clause in the by-laws which states that if all of the directors of the corporation are present at a meeting no notice of meeting is necessary nor is any waiver of notice required. If on referring to the by-laws such is not the case, then you and I should sign a waiver of notice of the meeting.

I am glad to note the new subscription of stock from Mr. Dillman.

As to the trip to New York I have read carefully the details of your plans and I am thoroughly in accord with them. I vote at election time at Cooperstown, New York, and am planning to leave here on Saturday afternoon, October 31st and will return on Election Day, November 3rd, arriving home in the late afternoon. On Wednesday, the following day, I am called for jury duty so if I am to see you while you are in New York it will have to be on Tuesday evening. I was glad to learn that Mr. House was continuing to make progress with the American Dental Association in connection with Ipsab.

I was also glad to note that you have received the machine for making carbon-ash.

I talked to Mr. Parker this morning and he agreed with me that since we are planning to use the letters to do a real job they should be as good as possible. He was, therefore, quite in accord with our using a specialist for this purpose.

We are in receipt of your letter of October 26, and the report of the Council on Dental Therapeutics regarding their findings on Ipsab, for which we want to thank you.

Regarding the report of the Council, we feel that either we made some error in presenting this preparation for the consideration of the Council, or the proper tests were not made to determine the value of Ipsab. In our letter of September 8, we suggested that CLINICAL TESTS be made with Ipsab because it is only in that kind of test that its true value will be found. The ingredients are so compounded that their proportionate amounts will not show up in a laboratory test, hence such tests are useless so far as any proof of the value of this preparation are concerned.

We are not interested in swindling the public, but we are trying to advance the cause of science and it is to this end that we are seeking the cooperation of the American Dental Association. IPSAB IS NOT ON THE MARKET FOR SALE TO THE PUBLIC. It has been given to several Dentists of high standing for them to experiment with purely for the purpose of scientific research. It is upon the results of tests by these Dentists that we have based our claims for Ipsab.

We have the utmost confidence in this preparation and we are very anxious to cooperate with the Council in every respect in order to prove the value of Ipsab.

Teddy [Edith Estella Smith, GC’s Aunt Kate Salter Smith’s stepdaughter] is not in the best of health. All the folks were crazy over Doris [Doris Anderson House].

Your wire regarding the ash was received and referred to House (the supply in Norfolk) who promised to forward it to you at Harbor Acres Special Delivery the same evening. I hope you receive it promptly. We are always sorry to have orders for ash for the need is generally serious, yet I am hoping that in this case it was not.

While in New York over the election period I talked with Mr. Parker at some length regarding the financial condition of the Association, especially as it relates to the constant strain and worry of petty business affairs of my father. The effect of such worry in the case of the Detroit situation, recent entanglements over our home, my brother’s school expense, etc., shows up a marked degree in the readings given by him. My father is now sixty-three and he does not throw off worries as easily as he once did. Mr. Parker expressed himself as feeling that something practical should be done to enable the Association to secure funds to guarantee relief of this strain and thus permit the work to function more smoothly. He asked me to send him a budget of the actual needs of the four individuals closely connected at this time and which is certainly the very smallest possible working force for the Association. He also suggested having a reading on this situation with reference to securing such funds and finally expressed himself as willing to undertake the task of securing them. The figures he requested and my suggestions in the matter are enclosed (copy).

You have I know given this matter considerable thought. I am taking the liberty of explaining this matter in detail. Please feel free to ask any questions you see fit. Mr. Parker will no doubt discuss the matter with you.

Anything that can be done in this line will be a great help. After whatever plan he has in mind is complete we will obtain a reading on it.

In order to avoid any delay I would suggest that you mail the letters and suggestions to my father at 20 Woods Lane, Scarsdale, N.Y. I will send him a suggestion and questions for a reading on the material. In this way we will be able to obtain the comments from the reading and work them into the final form for preparation here.

Have yours of the 7th. The package came alright, it is for [257] [See 257-172]; would send him a bill, he may pay me if he does - will bring it or send it a long. Otherwise, he may send it to you. Am of the opinion you have to arrange for these to be put up in cartons of Atomidine, for these came in pretty bad shape - the tube carton all smashed, and while the jar was not broken, didn’t present a very pleasing package when it came; gets all mused up in mail, pretty rough handling.

It is very lovely here, a beautiful place. Like working at home here for is quiet and nice, and the hubbub of the city. Spent one day in N.Y. - was at the Parker’s town home, very lovely there, not like being in the city at all, and as we didn’t get out, was not like being in the city. Saw Tom and Mary Sugrue Sunday - they spent afternoon and evening here. See them again next week, I believe, any way before we leave.

Yes, can well imagine the disturbance at home, we may say a lot of things but when death pokes up his head, we all shudder, and wonder what we have done with our opportunities. Will certainly be hard for them there this winter. How often is Gray home? How did he take his Father’s death?

All were bound to be crazy over Doris, and such a hard experience for her. But, know she is equal to it, and made them all love her the more. Wonder if you realize how lucky you are in having her as your helpmate?

Been fairly busy slow in starting but with regular work will be kept busy, don’t let Hugh Lynn grow wild,

Kindly note any changes that need by made, sign and return to me for filing in the minute book. I set the date of this meeting on Saturday, October 3, rather than on Sunday, October 4th. Am I correct in believing that such meetings cannot be held on Sunday?

I was very sorry to learn of the difficulty you have had with the Radio Active Appliance. I received a copy of your reading and advised House to request that you return the appliance in order for us to check it for defects. He is also shipping you another appliance with different type posts which we believe caused the trouble.

In going over the by-laws of the Corporation I find that I am in serious error on a matter which I took into my own hands as an emergency. You are aware of the loan made to my father of $100. I find that I did not have the right to do this without consulting the other directors. This amount will be repaid before the family leave New York, and it will not happen again. The difficulty arose over our house. The government loan which we were attempting to secure would not go through without the payment of taxes and fees for which we did not have funds at the time demanded. I have regretted this, but found myself in a difficult position. In any event it will not occur again.

With the mailing of the letters for the Health Home Remedies Corporation we will begin to carry a slightly larger petty cash account for incidental office expenses and pay all other bills on the first of the month by check. Our credit has not been established and we have been paying by check on many small items.

I am doing my best to keep Cayce straight but he is getting out of hand with all these group meetings, Sunday School meetings, Scout meetings and SALLY. Doris and I tried to get him to come in and stay with us while you all are away but he fights as shy of our place as if we had the Plague. Has only had dinner with us once since you left.

We have had several worries about the company including the trouble with the appliances in New York. I was sorry about Mr. [261]‘s [261-26] trouble with his appliance. Out of all the ones we have made, HIS WOULD HAVE TO BE DEFECTIVE. At present we are waiting to get the letters back from New York so that we can start sending them out. You remember the series of letters which were suggested in the readings.

Doris is getting along fine; in fact she is getting real “fat and sassy”. This being married is great stuff. Kindest regards to Dave, Lucille, Tom and Mary and Doris joins me in sending lots of love to You, Gertrude and Gladys.

Thanks for yours of recent date. Haven’t seen the data sent Miss Gladys, but guess she will give it out where needed. Too bad about the Appliance sent Mr. Johnston. Would you please save that appliance until I get home? Want to see it taken down, please. Much better tho, for it to have been one sent him than some one else, and if it is as suggested in his reading we may learn something from a mistake, which is the way most of us learn. Do we profit by them and we rarely learn to do right until we have done wrong once or twice.

Sure you have a time with “NINNY” [Tommy House’s childhood nickname for Hugh Lynn when he couldn’t pronounce Hugh Lynn; later he called him “Cayce”.]. He will possibly make some way - thanks just the same for looking out for him.

Tommy, please send Pa (Mr. L. B. Cayce, 1711 Russell St.) about 25 of the 1/8 grain Ash. Gave him some before he left but will take care of these soon as I get back. He is most out as he takes it twice a day, and is very anxious to have it on hand.

What do you hear from home? Am sure “this being married is great stuff.” Saw Tom and Mary yesterday, saw them again next Monday - be home next week am sure if H. L. comes for us. Cold here, have one of the best colds have had in long time - am pretty hoarse, had to skip a reading or two on account of it. Dear Mr. Bradley:

The Ash Machine was received in good condition. I have placed it in the office of the Health Home Remedies Corporation in Norfolk and Thomas House, the manager of the Corporation, is writing you for more details regarding its operation.

Thank you very much for sending it to me. We have deeply appreciated your helpfulness and interest in developing this product in the past. It has a real future, but its introduction to the medical world must be slow. We will keep you advised regarding progress with it.

I look forward to the time when you will again be more directly associated with our work. In my mind that “our” always includes you.

The H.H.R. Corp. is advancing slowly. IPSAB, the remedy for Pyorrhea is being received favorably by local Pyorrhea specialists; T-I-M, the Hemorrhoid remedy is continuing to prove highly satisfactory in both individual cases and tests by physicians. Our reports and knowledge of the products are growing.

We are undertaking series of readings for Professors at both Columbia and Duke. In this matter I am working toward the appointment of some investigator to make a complete study of the work at close range observing the daily routine with explanatory research readings thrown in now and then.

Thomas Sugrue (our old Egyptian rebel), is working on a book dealing with my father’s life and work. I feel that he is doing an excellent job. Tom is a staff writer on the American Magazine. His articles appear frequently. You may be interested in reading some of them when you have an opportunity.

I have been working steadily on plans to secure sufficient income to relieve my father of ordinary financial worries. Within the past few weeks developments have indicated that to some extend [extent?] at least this end may be achieved. By the first of the coming year I hope to be able to improve our publications in form, quality and quantity by a hundred per cent. Our publication program includes the publication of ten or twelve booklets explaining various phases of the work. A demand for these booklets will be created with the publishing of the book on my father’s life and with the gradual growth of Study Group Work.

By the first of the year I hope to report more definite progress, and as I have reminded you before, with the growth of this Association you are going to be the first person to whom I shall turn for council and advise.

My personal affairs are still so much involved with the family that can not tell them apart. I keep busy with a Sunday School class of boys 9-11, two study groups in Norfolk each week, a local bi-monthly group reviewing current books on psychic research, and a booming Scout Troop. The tennis is terrible. If it is possible to locate the necessary funds I contemplate a Master’s degree at Duke next fall. Work under McDougall and Rhine wouldn’t hurt me a bit. Have you read Rhine’s “Extra Sensory Perception”. It is the result of three years work at Duke on Telepathy.

The family are at the present in New York, just for a couple of weeks. My brother is working hard at engineering at Duke.

R21. 6/15/70 A.R.E. Member letter to Mr. Bernard Bradley, P.O. Box 1306, Sedona, AZ. 86336 [son of the late Franklin F. Bradley]:

“I obtained your address from your architectural firm in Chicago. We are doing some research into some of the things that Edgar Cayce recommended, one of which was the ‘animated ash’ that your father, Franklin, made in a carbon arc lamp back in the 1930’s.

“It would be a great help in our research effort if you could answer one question for us: WAS THE ASH PRODUCED FROM THE BAMBOO UNDER A PARTIAL VACUUM OR NOT? I know it will probably be difficult to remember something that happened so long ago, but any information you could supply on this question or related ones would be most helpful. The readings are not clear on this point.”

R22. 6/26/70 Mr. Bernard H. Bradley replied:

“As I recall, my father developed a series of clamps which held bamboo rods horizontally (split rods, about 1/4” square in cross section), and which were connected to a slowly moving drive - motor powered - which fed them directly between the two carbons of the arc lamp. He had experimented to arrive at the correct speed which corresponded with the speed with which they were burned and dropped (as ash) into a container. This was done on a long laboratory bench, with the arc lamp at one end. He also had a sterilizer for the ash containers, and a separate sterile capsule filling table under a glass enclosure. However, I am QUITE sure that the actual burning of the bamboo rods was NOT in a partial vacuum, as this would have required a pump and enclosure which I do not recall at all.

“Sorry I can’t be more definite than this, but I wouldn’t want to mislead you by guessing. Actually my mother did much of the work in producing the ash - as orders would come in - and my sisters and I were away at school much of the time. My mother passed away a year ago (at 93, and with a perfect memory) but it never occurred to me to ever discuss this in detail with her.”
