This Psychic Reading given by Edgar Cayce at his home on Arctic Cresent, Virginia Beach, Va., this 31st day of January, 1939, in accordance with request made by the self - Mrs. [1806] new Associate Member of the Ass”n for Research & Enlightenment, Inc., recommended by Miss [1779] and Mr. [2091].
[Edgar Cayce; Gertrude Cayce, Conductor; Gladys Davis, Steno.]
Time of Reading 10:50 to 11:05 A. M. Eastern Standard Time. …, New York.
-
GC: You will go over this body carefully, examine it thoroughly, and tell me the conditions you find at the present time; giving the cause of the existing conditions, also suggestions for help and relief of this body; answering the questions that may be submitted, as I ask them:
-
EC: Yes, we have the body, [1806].
-
Now as we find, there is rather the complication of physical disturbance; though the sources which have produced or do produce the greater part of the disturbance arise from a specific cause.
-
In times back, we find there was a high temperature, the congested area involving especially the lymph and emunctory circulation; so that where there was the forming of lesions and thickened tissue there has become scar tissue through the area of the lacteal duct and the lower portion of the gall duct.
-
Hence there are the inabilities for the body to gain its normal vital forces to keep the better coordination between sympathetic and cerebrospinal system; also the inability of activity in periods through portions of the extremity forces, - and especially the upsetting of eliminations as related to the superficial circulation.
-
These are the complications which arise from these disturbances.
-
As we find, then, in making administrations, all of these conditions should be taken into consideration; but necessarily each must come in its order as the corrections would be made for the system to function the nearer normal, and thus - through the very activity of the building within the self those resistances and correcitons - build up those portions of the system that have become deficient through the activity, or through their being cut off from the general activity of the system.
-
Hence as we find:
-
We would begin first with the applications of Castor Oil Packs over the liver, gall duct and caecum and sacral areas. These would cover the whole of the right side, from the rib area downward, you see, to the beginning of the hip joint. These would be applied for at least an hour EVERY day, for three to five days. Use at least three to four thicknesses of heavy flannel wrung out in the hot Castor Oil, - not merely dipped in or poured on. Apply as hot as the body can stand same over this area, for an hour each day for four or five days.
-
Also each evening before retiring we would massage the body over the same areas with Olive Oil; also along the spine, as well as the areas around the caecum and especially the whole area where the Castor Oil Packs are put. This may be done before or after the Packs are applied, but at a period when the body is to rest, - though NOT WHILE the Packs are on, to be sure. Do this for four to five days, or during the same days the Packs are applied.
-
Then leave off both the Packs and the Rubs, and begin with manipulations osteopathically administered to make for the breaking up of the adhesions and lesions through this area (in the caecum and lacteal duct and gall duct area, see, as indicated); making the specific adjustments as will be found necessary in the 4th and 5th dorsal area, and the lumbar and sacral axis. These would be given about every other day, or twice a week until six or eight treatments are given.
-
We would then leave off these for the four or five days while the Castor Oil Packs AND the Olive Oil Rubs would be given again, you see - this time for two or three days, at least, though four or five would be better.
-
Then we would have another such series of the osteopathic adjustments.
-
After these have been carried through for the second or third period or series of the applications, the Oil Packs and Rubs AND the adjustments, we would then give the changes necessary for the better adjustment for the eliminating forces and body-building forces in this body of [1806].
-
When the second series of Oil Packs are given, we would then take a large dose of Olive Oil internally, - that is, half a cupful - to cause better eliminations.
-
Also we would use high enemas to enable the system to make for the corrective forces.
-
Ready for questions.
-
(Q) What should the diet be during this period? (A) The easily assimilated foods, and especially plenty of those that cause better eliminations; as green vegetables and things of that nature.
After the third series of each of these applications as indicated, we would give further instructions.
- We are through for the present.

R2. 3/11/39 [1806]‘s letter to EC:
Dear Mr. Cayce:
The reading and your kind letter both arrived early in February. I immediately took the first series of castor oil packs and have just finished a series of eight osteopathic treatments with Dr. Dobbins. There are two questions in my mind regarding the treatment. You stated that I should, when the second series of oil-packs are taken, take a large dose of olive oil internally. I wondered if that meant just one, or one each day during the pack treatment. You also mention high enemas, I wondered how many and how often these should be taken.
I enclose the case history which was requested at the close of the reading. I am sorry I was not able to get it ready for you sooner. You will note in paragraph six on the first page my mention of the bus trip preceding this first attack of illness. In all the following cases there has always seemed to be some connection between these attacks and a longish automobile trip. I have tried to avoid such trips in recent years. It occurred to me in connection with the osteopathic treatments, which necessitate my driving to town twice a week, an hours trip each way, that these trips may cancel a part of the benefit of the treatments. I wanted to ask you what you thought about this. There is a local osteopath about six miles from here at Suffern, N.Y. His name is Dr. Lyle E. Gage. You understand that I am not at all dissatisfied with Dr. Dobbins or his work, the other idea just occurred to me as a possibility.
I had Monday, after a treatment, a rather violent bilious attack which still seems to be running its course. This indicates to me that the treatments have perhaps begun to stir things up in that sector. Dr. Dobbins has also succeeded in loosening up my back a great deal.
With heartfelt thanks for your efforts, I am,
Very sincerely yours, [1806]
Case History of [1806]:
First illness of any importance was an attack of acute colitis at about the age of seven, supposed to have been caused by apple skins.
Measles at the age of eight left the patient with a middle ear infection in the left ear. This infection is still present, sometimes disappears almost entirely, then reappears.
At ten years was again vaccinated (previous attempts had not been successful). Was at the same time cutting some last molars. This was during the influenza epidemic and the patients father fearful of this called a physician. This man was overworked and in a nervous state due to overwork and insisted upon inoculating the patient with the serum they used at that time despite the fact that she had a running vaccination at the time. This was apparently quite upsetting to her constitution and the doctor who had vaccinated her said that she would probably begin to menstruate soon. This occurred about six months later. Irregular at first.
Her tonsils and adenoids were removed at the age of eleven in an attempt to clear up the ear condition and to combat anemia and symptoms of rheumatism. The ear condition continued, the other conditions disappeared.
Aside from common colds and being rather too stout the patient continued in good health until about the age of twenty. Was treated in this summer of 1927 for a general run-down condition, kidney, gall-bladder and liver disturbance, all slight.
In January of 1933 the patient took a long bus trip to the western part of Pennsylvania. This seemed very tiring and she returned by train. During the trip she had her monthly period. The following month during her period she was suddenly taken ill with a sort of muscular and nervous cramping in her rhythmic system, i.e. breathing. It seemed to be necessary to make herself consciously breath. These attacks were followed by cramping in the muscles of the extremities, then by extreme weakness. After staying in bed about a month and a half, under treatment, these apparently disappeared. Previously the patient had always a certain amount of difficulty with menstrual cramps but these apparently disappeared or changed onto this other. There was no pain with the cramp attacks in the rhythmic system, merely acute distress.
In the winter of 1934 there was a mild recurrence of the same attacks.
In the winter of 1936, the end of January the patient fell ill of the same thing and was confined to her bed about a month and a half. In the spring of this same year the patient underwent a minor operation on the vagina, breaking the hymen and also enlarging the opening, which was supposed to have some connection with these difficulties.
In November 1936 the patient went to New York Hospital for tests and observation to determine whether there was anything organic the matter with her. The only discoverable thing was an arrested mastoid in connection with the left ear. Otherwise everything was supposed to be normal, heart liver, lungs, etc. The attacks were then diagnosed as sub-conscious hysteria and it was said that the patient would outgrow them.
In the spring of 1937 the patient went abroad to Switzerland to study for a year and two months after her arrival her menstrual period ceased. Treatment and various exercises helped the patient’s well-being but did not bring back the period which returned just a year later, two months after her return.
Since the spring of 1938 the patient has from time to time been well enough, but the attacks do recur, although they are considerably milder, and a definite feeling of not being completely capable of working with sustained and complete energy led her to ask for a reading.
P.S. The described attacks are also accompanied by a loss of appetite. Hot broth, fruit juices, and hot milk drinks taken at frequent intervals seemed to aid in overcoming the extreme weakness following such attacks.
R3. 3/13/39 EC’s letter to [1806]:
Dear [1806]:
Thank you for your letter and report - as to the questions, the dose of Olive think should be after each series of the oil packs but not each day unless these are taken each day. The enemas just as often as necessary to keep the colon cleaned - for of course the packs are designed to break up congestion in the liver and Gallduct area and would cause an already full colon to be more filled.
About the local or nearer Dr. would ask Dr. Dobbins about that - if he would administer just the same treatment and is more convenient for you why would go to him to be sure. But am sure Dr. Dobbins will tell you what is right about that better even than I could.
Know we feel a personal interest, and will appreciate your letting us hear from you as to how you get along.
With all good wishes
Sincerely, Edgar Cayce
R4. 5/23/39 [1806]‘s letter to EC:
The check reading on the morning of the 26th, 10:30 to 11:30 Eastern Standard Time will be quite all right with me. You are very kind to let me have this date so soon. I have a feeling that the Castor oil compresses were very beneficial and the osteopathic treatments too. However I feel that I have had enough of the compresses. I wonder if this is so. I had difficulty arranging to have the high colonic irrigations, so have had only one so far. In between I was called home to the funeral of my eldest brother. I expect to take another this week. In general I feel much improved in health and strength, have had no recurrence of the attacks.
It will be a pleasure to see you here at the … I think you will like it, it is a lovely spot. I trust it will be soon. Mr. […] joins me in greetings and heartfelt thanks for your kindness,
Sincerely, [1806]
