This Psychic Reading given by Edgar Cayce at his home on Arctic Crescent, Virginia Beach, Va., this 1st day of February, 1939, in accordance with request made by the self - Mrs. [1808], new Associate Member of the Ass”n for Research & Enlightenment, Inc., recommended by Miss [1703].
[Edgar Cayce; Gertrude Cayce, Conductor; Gladys Davis, Steno.]
Time of Reading 11:00 to 11:30 A. M. Eastern Standard Time. …, N.Y.
-
GC: You will go over this body carefully, examine it thoroughly, and tell me the conditions you find at the present time; giving the cause of the existing conditions, also suggestions for help and relief of this body. You will answer the questions she has submitted, as I ask them:
-
EC: Yes, we have the body, [1808].
-
Now as we find, there is rather the complication of disturbances as prevent the normal activity in the physical forces of this body.
-
Yet we find - if there is a consistent application of suggestions as may be made here, and with the keeping of the attitudes as at present exist with the body; while it will be necessary to change in the forms of application as physical conditions develop - we may bring a near to normal reaction, with the abilities to fulfil those desires towards having or bringing into existence offspring.
-
The basis or primary cause exists with the disturbance in the organs of the pelvis; and the effect of same upon the nervous system, and strain produced by this nervousness, has caused and does cause in the present the basis of the disturbance, - with those contributory causes, as the conditions through throat, lungs, which contribute also to the general debilitation of the system.
-
These then are conditions as we find them with this body, [1808].
-
The blood supply is weakened, owing to the great nerve tension, as well as the inability to rebuild owing to the disturbance in the pulmonary system; though this disturbance is more from nervousness than from any organic condition, or the effect or presence of foreign disturbances or infectious forces.
-
However, inflammation does exist.
-
This hinders the blood stream from being perfectly purified in the activities of the circulation through same. THIS becomes contributory to the general condition.
-
The nervous system is a cause and an effect of much of the disturbances.
-
As we find, in times back there was a tear, or the breaking of tissue in the pelvic system, or in the vagina area. This, followed by cold and congestion in the form of neuralgal [neuralgic?] conditions or reactions, has caused the inclination for this tissue to become engorged; thus causing a form of lymph tumor.
-
This is not malignant, nor in any nature tending to such, unless there are infectious forces from some other source.
-
This is the basis or cause of the general debilitation through the nervous system.
-
Hence these two primary causes, and yet contributory from the disturbances in each, produce the influences that bring about the disturbing forces with this body of [1808].
-
Then, in and through the first series of applications for helpful forces, there must be those administrations that will tend to alleviate those disturbances in the pulmonary system, or the pulmonary circulatory system; that the alleviation of the disturbance through the pelvic system, and with the better assimilation, through better circulatory forces, may allow the body to gradually build back to a better NORMAL condition.
-
These applications, then, will be in the form of CORRECTIVES and PREVENTATIVES:
-
First,
-
We would have adjustments osteopathically made to alleviate those lesions as will be found that are formed in the cervical, the upper dorsal and through the lumbar and sacral areas. These should be taken in series; twice a week for three weeks, then a rest period from them for a week, and then taken again for three weeks. And after that we would give the further instructions for the MANNER of corrections osteopathically, and as to their nature.
-
We would also begin with the taking of douches that would carry Atomidine as a purifying and a corrective and preventative agent. These are to be taken not too hot, but rather body-temperature; the proportions being a teaspoonful NEARLY full of the commercial strength Atomidine to the quart and a half of water - body-temperature. Use a Fountain Syringe, and not that of the nature that would be as the rotary or pressing nature, or pump. These are to be taken, you see, on the days or evenings AFTER the manipulations or corrections are given. Not the same day, but day AFTER, see?
-
We would also use an inhalant prepared in the manner as we will give here, for the throat, bronchi and lung disturbance; which will ease and aid in clarifying and purifying the tissue in the bronchi, larynx and lungs, as well as nasal passages.
-
Prepare the inhalant in a large mouth, colored bottle, six ounces or the like as to its quantity; though prepare TWO entrances or vents. Neither of the tubes inserted (of glass) are to touch the solution, but are to extend into the space above the solution. These would be kept tightly corked, save when they are to be used for inhaling the fumes. The solution would be prepared in this manner, and add the ingredients AS they are given:
-
To 4 ounces of Grain Alcohol (at least 80% strength), add - IN THE ORDER NAMED:
Oil of Eucalyptus…20 minims, Compound Tincture of Benzoin…15 minims, Rectified Oil of Turp…5 minims, Tolu in Solution…10 minims.
Shake the solution well before the fumes are to be inhaled, either into throat or nasal passages or both - to the lungs; once or twice a day, or if there is the inclination to cough in the evening there may be a whiff or one inhalation taken every few minutes, or until the cough is allayed.
-
As to the diet: This should be of body-strengthening foods. Plenty of Beef Juice; not broths but taken rather as medicine; at least three to four times a day, or between the meals, but Small quantities; a teaspoonful at the dose SIPPED, not taken as a mouthful and gulped, but SIPPED! Take a minute or two in taking this quantity. Prepare it at least every other day, and during the day take three or four teaspoonsful of this.
-
Whole wheat as a grain - crushed or rolled or cracked, but cooked a long time - taken with milk or cream once a day will supply the iron as well as other elements necessary for better eliminations.
-
Have at least one or two evacuations of the alimentary canal each day. If necessary use the high enemas to evacuate the colon. These would be body-temperature, and always with a saline solution, - that is, a heaping teaspoonful of salt and a level teaspoonful of soda to each quart of water used. These, too, would preferably be given with the Fountain Syringe or the like.
-
It is well that fish, fowl and lamb be used as the meats - if such are taken.
-
No fried foods, preferably.
-
Eggs are very well to be taken, if they are palatable to the body. The egg yolk may be taken with a little spirits frumenti; this cooked by the teaspoonful of the spirits frumenti being stirred with the raw egg yolk, with a little sugar in same, then milk added to make a glassful; this would be very well once a day or two or three times a week, dependent upon the reaction of this upon the system.
-
The scarcity of the menstrual flow should not disturb the body, - until there is more strength and vitality built up.
-
Take Codiron with one of the meals each day; two pellets of same. This would be taken consistently, continuously, especially through the winter, or until the next suggestions would be given through this channel.
-
To be sure, do not use the douches DURING the menstrual period.
-
Do these in the manner and the order indicated, until the second series of the manipulations and adjustments have been given, see?
-
Through the rest period between the two series of osteopathic treatments it would be well that at least one of the douches be taken, IF this does not come during the menstrual period.
-
After the second of the series of the manipulations and adjustments (and we would advise Dobbins), we would give further instructions.
-
Ready for questions.
-
We are through for the present.

R1. 2/11/39 [1808]‘s letter to EC:
… Rd., …, N.Y.
“Haven’t had a chance to write sooner as I am in bed and have been since Feb. 7th.
“Your reading was received for which I thank you and I went at once to Dr. Frank Dobbins in Staten Island. He told me my heart was so bad that I must go right to bed for at least 3 weeks.
“So I went to my mother’s house in Jersey City and she has been taking care of me. Dr. Dobbins doesn’t practice in Jersey City, so I had to call in a medical doctor, as I was so weak at the time and didn’t know what to do.
“He (the doctor) prescribed rest and quiet. Said my heart, liver, kidneys and legs were all enlarged. He said had I waited another week it would have been just too bad.
“Have been in bed five weeks and feel much better. I eat light meals and have put on weight as I was down to 100 pounds on account of dieting and am now 112 pounds.
“I also called in a Chiropractor in Jersey City who has given me adjustments twice a week.
“I feel that I am improving slow but sure and will be in bed for another couple of weeks.
“The doctor said if I take things easy and stick to the seashore for the summer that I will soon be well - as far as my heart is concerned and I hope that is so. My cough is getting better too.
“Being in bed, I haven’t had a chance to follow the other treatments through - but guess I better wait with that until I see Dr. Dobbins again.
“Hoping to hear from you,”
I remain, yours very truly Mrs. [1808]
present address … c/o Mrs. […] (My mother’s house)
P.S. New address of Dr. Frank Dobbins 20 Albion Pl. Staten Island, N.Y.
R2. 3/13/39 Letter from EC to [1808]: “I oft times wonder with all the people I hear from from all over the country, why I feel drawn closer to some - even tho never meet them than to others - have felt like that about you, and have been most anxious to hear from you so appreciate yours of the 11th very much, too bad that you have had such a siege of it, but am happy to know that you are now feeling better and certainly hope you will continue to do so, and will before fall come be real well and strong and your self again.
“Am sure the adjustments have been most helpful and would surely take all the rest possible until you are able to get your strength back. When you are able to get back to the Island and have Dr. Dobbins resume his treatments and can have the rest of that as suggested am very sure you will improve much faster, but would not be in too big a hurry to get back where your strength would be sapped up before you were able to carry on.
“Appreciate your letting me hear from you, and hope as you get better you will do so more often and if we can in any way be of help be sure and let us hear from you.
“May His blessings be with you, and with kindest personal regards to you and yours.”
R3. 7/39 [Husband’s note?] “Kindly take the name of Mrs. [1808] off your mailing list, as she passed away six weeks ago.”

B1. 1/18/39 Letter from [1808] to EC: “Was one of your visitors at the time of your stay in N.Y. and wish to say I was very much impressed.
“I have withheld the ‘Reading’ until now as I realize that after your visit you were no doubt ‘swamped’ with work.
“I am therefore sending in my reading at this time and trust you can give me an early reading, any day is O.K., as my condition - a bad cough is getting me down (so to speak).
“I am enclosing my history for your files.
“Also enclosed please find m/o for $20.00, application & questions.
“It does seem a shame when I have so much to live for to have so little health. I know that you have helped so many and trust you can also help me. I’ll be glad to follow all instructions.
“Thanking you in advance and also wishing you a very happy 1939…”
1/18/39, HISTORY: (Protestant Faith) BORN - April 5, 1900 in Norway (as […]) MOTHER - […] - living FATHER - […] - (Died July 1931) AGE of 2 - I contracted pneumonia (still in Norway), came out O.K. AGE of 7 - Came to the United States with Mother and Brother. AGES 8 - 11 - Had children’s illnesses such as measles, scarlet fever and pink eyes. I was always pale and anemic. AGE 11 - Again contracted pneumonia and was taken to St. Francis Hosp. in Jersey City in 1911. Was operated on - left lung - empyema - that is a small piece of rib was taken out and tubes placed in to drain out pus. Got over that O.K. and have had no ill effects from it. AGE 14 - Contracted Diphtheria and came out O.K. Rheumatic Fever - one week. Came out O.K. AGES 14 to 35 - Have had no illnesses outside of head colds, grippe. Have never been bothered with chest colds or coughs. In 1935 I was married. (3-1/2 years ago - Apr. 4, 1935.) WAS MARRIED IN 1935 and since then have been nervous, run down and always tired. Always worked in an office, with lots of overtime work and perhaps the let down caused it - when I stopped working. IN NOV. 1935 - got caught in a severe rain storm and as a result menstruated very excessively. Had to go to a medical doctor who gave me ergot. The following month my period was normal. From then, 1935 UP TO SPRING OF 1938 - was pretty well nothing extra. Always tired and no appetite. MAY 1938 - I went to Utica, N.Y. and up there it is quite damp. I got several sore throats and had to go to a medical doctor who advised me to go home as my heart was acting up. I thought it was my anemic condition as my heart has as long as I can remember - been fast at times due to anemia. I went home to … and had to go right to bed. Had a medical doctor who said it was Rheumatic Fever and my heart beat was very fast. I was given powders to sweat. I had only a touch of the fever as it was in my right foot and left elbow. It disappeared in 10 days - but my heart was still bad. As I had lived in Jersey prior to my marriage the doctors I had came from Jersey. One medical doctor and a chiropractor. Was in bed for about 6 wks. and LOST 20 POUNDS, which I NEVER REGAINED. I developed a cough too which was also weakening. Was up and around by July and the latter part of July, 1938, I started to menstruate - very excessively and for 3 wks. It began to let up and I went to a doctor who examined me and said I had a fibroid tumor of the Uterus and that meant an operation and the uterus removed. I was heartbroken as I love children. And my husband does too. I couldn’t face an operation as I was so weak - (Blood count
- 40) [40 million?] I mightn’t survive the operation. On top of that he said my thyroid gland was swollen and had to come out (A metabolism test showed 31 plus). I had a pain in my right side of my abdomen (at times) and he said my appendix too had to come out. What would be left? He also said I needed blood transfusions before the (3) operations. I came home and remembered a Naturopathic Institute that claims they cure all ailments by diet, sunshine and osteopathic adjustments. I spoke to Dr. Lust [Benedict Lust, N.D.?] (Yungborn Institute) and he said to go at once to Butler, N.J. (where this place is) and I would be helped. I went up and stayed one month and felt much better. The following month the period was normal again, I felt much better but gained no weight, as the meals up there are starchless - only vegetarian (I still had my cough!) On my return I went to a doctor to check on my cough and had X-rays taken of my heart & lungs and saliva tested. The saliva test proved negative and the X-ray showed lungs O.K. and heart enlarged. My cough is still with me and I have been going (not any longer) to a chiropractor who said I have Cardiac Asthma and baked my chest with a Red Ray Lamp. Have been taking all kinds of cough medicine - to no avail. SUMMARY - My case stands as follows: I can’t sleep nights as I cough so much. My heart does beat fast and I can’t walk very far or very fast without coughing. My feet and ankles swell and lately my knees underneath feel stiff. I have a pain now & then right side of my abdomen. My thyroid is still prominent.
Went on a grape diet for a month for my Uterine condition and the doctor said the tumor had gone down quite a bit, but I don’t know. I do hope this condition can be helped. Strangely enough the last 3 months menstruation has been so scanty - only a few drops really? The above is my history for your record and trust I can soon write in saying I feel loads better. (P.S. Lately I get so warm all the time - I have to turn off the heat - just like I’m burning up.)
QUESTIONS FOR MR. CAYCE (while asleep):
- What causes my cough & how can it be cured? (I sit up all nights on account of it.)
- How can my heart & thyroid be restored to normal?
- Can the Uterine condition be cleared up - so I can have a child?
- My period has been VERY scanty the last 3 months - will it be normal again?
- What causes the occasional pain right lower side of abdomen?
