This Psychic Reading given by Edgar Cayce at his home on Arctic Crescent, Virginia Beach, Va., this 8th day of February, 1939, in accordance with request made by the mother - Mrs. [1813], Associate Member of the Ass”n for Research & Enlightenment, Inc., via Mrs. [1602].

1. GC: You will give the relation of this entity and the universe, and the universal forces; giving the conditions which are as personalities, latent and exhibited in the present life; also the former appearances in the earth plane, giving time, place and the name, and that in each life which built or retarded the development for the entity; giving the abilities of the present entity and that to which it may attain, and how. You will answer the questions which have been submitted, as I ask them:

2. EC: Yes, we have the records here of that entity now known as or called [1815].

3. In giving the interpretations of the records of this entity, it would be well for those who are to advise and counsel with the entity to realize many of the abilities and the tendencies which exist in the experience of this entity; both from astrological and from material sojourns of the entity.

4. These that are given here, then, are chosen with the desire to make this experience a helpful one throughout this material sojourn. For the entity is endowed innately with a many-sided disposition; being highly sensitive, and inclined to be dramatic, - though very much in the position where, in whatever endeavor the entity undertakes, he will not be in the background but toward the front.

5. A natural leader, a natural politician; making for, then, even in little details, the activities in which the purposes and intents will be carried out, - or the entity obtaining or gaining his point.

6. The entity is naturally inclined towards musical activities, and especially should the entity make the piano his forte.

7. In the first, we would give that as may be a life picture, or the emblem which should be ever a part of the entity’s meditation; a shield as a background, and the helmet as of old, with a long plume in same, - with the purpose DEUS ET FIDELIS. This indicates the needs, the inclinations that are to be and should be the impelling motives and influences in the experience of the entity.

8. Then in giving the aspects from the astrological sojourns, we find Venus, Jupiter, Neptune, Uranus as the benevolent as well as what may be said to be the impelling influences in the very nature, or the warp and woof of the innate influences in the experience.

9. Hence the entity is innately and naturally a leader; one of artistic temperament. Hence the entity is greatly influenced at times by water as a CREATIVE force, and should thus be close to large bodies of water, - oft in meditation by deep, running water or spring or rills; and should pass over waters for the finishing of his preparation, or for the obtaining of the centralizing or localizing of the abilities in the finishing of its preparation for the activities of its choice.

10. In Jupiter the natural inclination is for leadership, as well as the abilities to influence great numbers of peoples.

11. From the Uranian influence we find the extremist; but should be kept then in one line, not changed often in its associations with interpreters, directors or tutors, - though individual service as in tutoring is the greatest influence to maintain the greater forces and influence in the entity’s experience.

12. These should be activities for the directing then of the entity, in its MUSICAL career preferably; but there will be inclinations towards political influences and parties, and these should be dissuaded as much as possible, but NEVER breaking the spirit of the entity, - but rather, as indicated, have God and fidelity as the basis of the causes, the purposes in the experiences, in its activities in every influence and force in the life of the entity.

13. As to the material sojourns, these - as may be indicated - have been quite varied, quite far apart in the material or earthly experiences in some respects, - and yet close in others, if the experience is in other directions. For all time being one time, they direct in that influence or force which expresses itself in the intuition, in the dreamy experiences.

14. And this inclines to make the entity very susceptible to the fair sex, or to the opposite sex. Hence these must be directed in channels in which they become helpful forces rather than stumblingblocks in the experience, and during this particular sojourn.

15. Before this we find the entity was in the English land when many were being drawn into an activity for a cause, that to the mental self proclaimed a defense of a cause - or for the Holy City.

16. The entity was in direct activity during those experiences as one closely associated with those in authority, and making for those activities in which orders as well as directions were given, through the very experience.

17. Hence the one name rather than the double should be chosen, as well as one purpose, one cause, ONE direction!

18. The name then was Cormant Bruce, - the swift; as the experiences of the entity then led all its forces to song. And it may be said that especially in those experiences the song of battle, the song of waging those directing forces, was such a part of the entity that such influences become innate in the present experience.

19. Hence the cry whether as to battle or as to the hurrah of the college team, or the mob as it may cry for the right or the wrong, becomes as an APPEALING thing in the experience of the entity.

20. Hence the greater necessity of first the choosing of the correct one for the training, in its field of service or activity. And hold to same, so long as it is the practical thing to do, changing only the directions when there are the greater fields of activity, greater experience before large groups or crowds, and the needs for changes of scenes and environs for its material education in those directions before the many.

21. Before that we find the entity was in the land during those periods of hardship, during the activities in what is now called the period when the Master walked in the earth.

22. There we find the entity was among the shepherds who heard the cry of “Glory to God in the Highest - Peace on earth and good will to men.”

23. These were as those forces that made for abilities in the harp, the reeded instruments; and the greater songs that were played in those periods were part of that intuition, that motivative force which arose from the activities of the entity under that experience.

24. Hence he beheld Him as a Babe!

25. All of these forces become an influence in the entity.

26. The name then was Eucuo.

27. In the present experience from same there is the greater need for that creative force that arouses the latent forces in the minds and hearts AS such is set to music for the MOVING of peoples in THEIR relationship to others and to their Creator, or as in manifesting the relationship through such.

28. Before that we find the entity was among those who were close to the king who was proclaimed after Saul, - or a friend of, a companion of David; and raised to one in power, - yet the experience became both an advancement as well as a retardment.

29. For the entity allowed self, and the power of self, to become as the greater influence.

30. The name then was Abner.

31. Yet as for power, as for influence, as for the musical forces, as the thrusts, as for the directing powers and forces among men, this is a great force and influence in the present experience.

32. Hence again, God and right, God and faithfulness, God and truth is to be the motto of the entity in all of its relationships.

33. Hence the spiritual side of the nature of the entity is to be impressed and directed. And have no instructor, no director that is not well grounded in SPIRITUAL things!

34. Before that we find the entity was in the Egyptian land, during the dedicating of men and their lives and their activities for special services.

35. For we find the entity directed the song, the dance in the Temple of Sacrifice, as well as in the PREPARATIONS of music for the Temple Beautiful.

36. Hence not only the dirges, as it were, but that which gives the awakening to the Creative Forces that draw the mind and the soul and the will of man towards the Creative Forces or God, are the innate forces and those that must be exercised in the present experience.

37. As to the abilities of the entity in the present, and that to which it may attain, and how:

38. Keep the faith of that which is implied in, “Glory to God in the highest - Peace on earth and good will to men.” THESE should be the motivative forces.

39. In music, and especially the piano, lies the direction of activity. Do not let material things hinder. Ye must know pain, ye must know sorrow, if ye would depict same in thy music.

40. CREATE those forces within thyself; then as to what and influence means that brings peace on earth, good will to men.

41. Ready for questions.

42. (Q) Has he the right teacher of piano? (A) This is very well in the present, and we would keep this through to the end of this present experience.

43. (Q) Should he complete high school? (A) He should!

44. (Q) At the Gorton High or elsewhere? (A) This is very well. Keep in the one way for this entity; not many changes, ever.

45. (Q) He prefers composition. Please advise. (A) This is the field of activity, as we have indicated.

46. (Q) Is a music school indicated, or should he have a tutor? (A) Should keep as has been indicated.

47. (Q) In what locale will he derive the most, both for health and education? (A) As has been indicated, hold to the present environ until there is the change for study abroad.

48. (Q) He appears to have much understanding of cosmic religion, or innate ability along that line. Please advise. (A) Why shouldn’t he? from those experiences that have been indicated, through which he has passed!

Hence hold to that as indicated in the seal, that must be the motto; as to realizing, becoming aware and giving expression of same in music of what that vision meant which the entity did experience. Again set that to music, and thy praise, thy glory, thy activity will be such that HE will never again be forgotten!

R1. 2/15/39 Mother [1813]‘s ltr. [Mother’s follow-up report on 2/8/39 Life Rdg.] to EC: “I appreciate our readings so much, but my response is so late you will think I lack in appreciation. But I am so languid everything is so much effort, I don’t know why I can’t keep going, but like the clock they forgot to wind, I jes ran down - So you are starting the pendulum going once more - I began following directions immediately. My druggist is co-operating and is so interested to know who gave such good advice. As soon as I can arrange it I am going to have a nice time discussing our charts at [1602]‘s. But I don’t seem to need any interpreter. They are quite clear to me, and coincide with my astrological forecast. You make us doubly sure. Only one thing I was surprised to learn. It is regarding [1815]‘s music teacher. Since I learned that she is a communist, I felt that as well as her strong emotional effect on [1815], that while a splendid pianist she was not the best one. And another teacher Joyce Barthelson, was already contacted, an appointment made, which I called off when I rec’d the reading. Actually [1815] has not had a lesson from his teacher Gertrude Bovime for nearly two months. So who do you consider his present teacher? The one he had last?

Incidentally [1815] is most interested in his past and I have tried to impress him with the lesson to be yet learned. The motto is splendid. There is one question you could definitely answer for me; don’t we incarnate alternately as masculine and feminine personalities?

So I have been taught. I so often wake from sleep, feeling I am a man, & am surprised to find I am not one.

Tell me, in order to have the reading which will answer those questions as to environment most conducive to health as well as usefulness, could I find out from a general reading? Both myself and the boys. And what of the price? Second charts at $10? Of course we are all hoping to understand each other better. I’ll keep in touch with you regarding all of us…”

R2. 2/18/39 EC’s ltr. to Mrs. [1813]: “Thanks for yours of the 15th - do hope you will find the opportunity to have my son Hugh Lynn go over your readings with you while he is there, Mrs. [1602] will make the period for you am sure - think he will be there until after the 1st of Mar. [w/WOR Radio Program, MYSTERIES OF THE MIND].

Glad you like the readings - think you will find them more and more interesting as you study them.

As to the teacher - am of the opinion it is the one you have recently employed - by all means and not the former.

KEEP Miss Barthelson - by all means [GD’s note: From the tone of the reading I would say the original teacher was meant.].

From our information, Mrs. [1813], one would suppose it was not a set rule - of changing of sex - or as to length of time between incarnations. One thing have noted - where man or woman - if there has been a change of sex - there are no children in the next incarnation.

I understand this may be wrong - but is our experience of the thousand or more cases we have had. Another reason would like for you to talk with my son he can better, in talking with you, tell you about the types of readings. Our rule, Mrs. [1813], is where the entire period is taken for a reading it is the 20 - where it is a check reading and others can be taken at same period it is 10 - we can only do so much if we worked constantly - which we can’t - only two periods each day can be taken for readings - so have to make them so they will somewhere near meet the budget. Hoping, then, you will see Hugh Lynn - and thanking you for your letter, with all good wishes…”

R3. 5/17/39 Hugh Lynn Cayce’s letter to the mother, Mrs. [1813], indicated that he and EC saw Mrs. [1813] at Mrs. [1602]‘s home when they were last in N.Y.

After the chairman of the gold-mining company, and the Swiss bank executive, and the author of “The Invisible Crash” all had spoken, it was Joseph E. Granville’s turn at the gloom-and-doom seminar.

The date was March 4 and the nation was faced with both a monetary crisis and a coal strike.

Granville, the world’s biggest “bear” in 1977, strode to the front and predicted the Dow Jones industrials would make a 100-point move.

Up.

“Then I waited for the little old ladies to turn up their hearing aids, and I said it again… ‘Up,’ and I spelled it out… ‘U-P.’”

Outrageous and correct.

The Dow did bottom out at 742 only three market days prior to the March 4 seminar has soared 100 points since then.

But it was not the first time Granville was odd man out.

In early 1977, he predicted a bear market instead of the rosy advance forecast by a record 84 percent of all advisory services. He was right then too, and 10 months later Barron’s magazine gave him credit for it in a lead editorial.

Odd-man-out Granville dresses the part. A tall, skinny guy in a polyester sport shirt, he looks like he would be more comfortable at the $2 window than a corporate boardroom. He fuels his obsession for the stock market with cigarettes and coffee.

Granville, who works by himself at a small office near Daytona Beach, says he pays no attention to the news or to earnings - so-called fundamental analysis - when soothsaying.

“The price-earnings ratio is least reliable of all in predicting price,” he said, slicing the air with a cigarette.

Instead he “listens to the market itself, using his own method of analyzing volume and price trends.”

Most people, he says, lose money on stocks because they are afraid of the market and stay out until greed overtakes them late in the upcycle. Then they only succeed in bailing out the “smart money” investors.

“The key to getting off this treadmill”, says Granville, is that “volume always precedes price. The smart money investors cannot accumulate stock without giving a volume tip-off to the person who monitors it daily,” he says.

If a stock goes from 10 to 10 1/4 on volume of 10,000 shares one day, then slips back to 10 on 5,000 shares the next, most people would say it has not done anything.

But to Granville, the stock has made a positive move.

The fact that more shares changed hands as the stock rose means it is being accumulated by the “smart money,” he says.

In the reverse case, when volume is heavier on the downside, he would say the stock is being “distributed,” or dumped, by insiders.

Granville calls his souped-up volume indicator “on-balance volume,” or “OBV,” and he has a variety of others with names like “net field trend” and “climax indicator.” They all fit together in a complicated jig-saw puzzle that gives him a final yes, no, or maybe.

Currently, 1,500 subscribers shell out $150 a year to hear what he says in his market letters, and they also spend plenty for his books and tape cassettes.

Granville now predicts even higher volume this summer than the 40 million to 60 million shares a day in April, and he expects the Dow to surge above 1,000 by October from the current 834.

“I don’t care what people call the latest movement of the Dow - a rally within a bear market, or a new bull market. I just follow the swings,” Granville said.

Granville’s favorite industries for investment currently are gambling, airlines, motels, liquor, drugs, aerospace and stock brokerage.

In the longer run, however, Granville still thinks the market will plummet because the federal debt is “out of control.”

“I would guess that when the debt (now above 720 billion) exceeds 800 billion that the whole economic ball of wax will begin to unwind.”

NOTES AND OBSERVATIONS BY THE SUBJECT [1815] CAYCE READING GIVEN FEBRUARY 8, 1939:

I always knew who I was and where I was going from the very earliest age. Richly endowed by parents of opposite backgrounds, I got my great physical strength from my father and my artistic temperament from my mother. My father had little education, came from poverty and had to work very hard from an early age for everything he got. He gave me my drive, ambition and the credo to always keep going and never give up. My mother gave me my great love of life, its total freedom, my deep love for music and books. Some of my earliest memories consisted of the two of us sitting out under the stars at night, my asking her at the age of four as to people living on other planets. She taught me to play piano when I was three. We had a very extensive library and I always had my nose in a book. As for the piano, I had a great talent for improvisation. It has never left me. That talent was extended to describe everything I do. I have always been the maverick, the iconoclast, the breaker of accepted images. Everything I touched led to new contributions of thought, new theories - always the pioneer.

My mother taught me astrology, numerology and I delved into prophecies at an early age. After years in public schools, my mother felt that I needed more individual handling in a school where the child was given much greater latitude for creative development. Prior to that decision to send me to the Todd School for Boys in Woodstock, Illinois (September 1939), my mother became familiar with the great work of Edgar Cayce and, based on his reading of February 8, 1939, made the right decisions regarding my future.

The following Spring (1940) I went on a trip covering nine states and Mexico. It was a great turning point. I immediately sat down and wrote my first book, A SCHOOLBOY’S FAITH which was published a few months later by Fleming Revell, New York, N.Y. (1941). In that book was not only a travelogue in verse but also THE SEARCHLIGHT, my personal philosophy of life, and it has not changed one iota.

Graduating from Todd in June 1941, I didn’t want to go immediately to Yale where one of my aunts wanted to send me. I took a year off, acting in an off-Broadway group called the Valdes Players. During this period I wrote a three act comedy called HOT TROPICS which almost got me thrown out of college a year later because in that play nobody wore any clothes in the third act. I was always thirty years before my time, this concept preceding the Broadway production of HAIR by a generation.

While at Todd I had developed my interest in chemistry and economics and so by the time I got to Duke University in September 1942 I had picked chemistry as my major. I was all head and no lab technique. Even to this day I have the largest lab breakage bill ever run up in a given semester at Duke. Due to the war, I switched my major to pre-med so as to remain on campus longer. For the same lack of lab technique it wasn’t long before I decided against medicine. I was all head. I could no do organic transformations in my head but when it came to dissecting cats I knew that no patient of mine could have survived.

I left Duke in the summer of 1944 for boot camp with the Navy at Asbury Park, New Jersey. From there I went to midshipman school at Northwestern University in Chicago, getting my commission in the U.S. Navy as Ensign in January 1945.

I had met a girl named Katherine Reese in July 1944 and married her in May 1945 after a four-month course in communications at Harvard University at Cambridge, Mass. Soon after the marriage I received my overseas orders and flew to Pearl Harbor in June 1945. From Pearl I got final orders to report to Roi Namur in the Marshall Islands, arriving there in July 1945.

While at Roi Namur I wrote my second book, PRICE PREDICTIONS which my mother had printed for me while I was overseas. It was an idea based on a fixed or diminishing supply market. I have been a stamp collector all my life and I saw an exciting future for that market - sharply rising prices due to fixed and diminishing supply. When I got out of the Navy in January 1946 the first thing I did was to write a second of edition of PRICE PREDICTIONS. Returning to the states, I tried to make a go of things with Katherine but it just wasn’t meant to be. We split in July 1946 and I never saw her again. The marriage was annulled. There were no children.

I couldn’t get back to Duke University immediately and so I took a job in New York at a hospital fundraising outfit called Will, Folsom & Smith. While working for them as their statistician, I wrote the third edition of PRICE PREDICTIONS which appeared as a two-volume work in August 1948, published by Lindquist Publications, New York, N.Y. I returned to Duke for my junior year in September 1947 and this time majored in economics. I was widely published by this time, having done many articles for Linquist Publications as well as already having five published books to my credit. I stayed at Duke until I graduated in July 1948.

In June 1948 I met Polly Delp while visiting at home at Westport, Connecticut. Again I fell in love. I didn’t see her after August 1948 until briefly in May 1949. She called me up in New York in March 1950 and that started everything again. We were married in July 1950. We went to New York City to live and remained there until 1953.

A daughter, Leslie, was born in July 1951 and a son in October 1952, Blanchard. We brought out first house in Ramsey, New Jersey in August 1953, finally getting out of our apartment in New York. I had been publishing the PHILATELIC INVESTMENT LETTER since November 1950 and that provided our meager income at that time.

These were searching years, trying to get a feel of final directions, how best to utilize all my talents that lay in writing, public speaking, acting, music, mathematics, statistical analysis etc. In 1952 Hermitage House published EVERYBODY’S GUIDE TO STAMP INVESTMENT, the forerunner to stamp investments as becoming acceptable investments on the Keough Plan, there again twenty years ahead of my time.

I stayed with Avon Products in the printing department long enough to get another book done in 1956 (the 4th edition of PRICE PREDICTIONS) and then, extremely restless to get on to more to more serious work, left Avon in 1957 to seek employment in New York.

I went from one employment agency to another, filling out applications. The year before I had taken an aptitude test by Merrill Lynch and flunked it, told by them that I would never have any success in any phase of Wall Street work. Then it happened! One of the agencies called back and told me that I had an appointment with E. F. Hutton & Co. the next day at 4 P.M. I took the manuscript of the book I had recently completed into the city with me. The manuscript weighed about 6-8 pounds and numbered 2,350 pages. At the proper moment during the interview I held the manuscript a foot above the desk and let it drop. It had the desired effect. They figured that anybody would could inflict that much self-punishment when he didn’t have to that they could teach me to do the rest. I got the job as the market letter writer for E. F. Hutton & Company that day on 30-days probation. I would write the letter each day and sign it but it wouldn’t go out on their wire system until I had done that successfully for 30 days. To make a long story short, the letter was going out 11 days later. I had not had even 5 minutes previous Wall Street experience and I had landed their top job. That was October 1957.

The next two years were two of the busiest of my life, finding my true niche. But I had to do it my way. I was very outspoken. I would not cotton to the traditional ways of fundamental analysis, seeing that it was not the way. I began to formulate a brand new language for the market, a completely new way of doing things. I created a new terminology and saw the the great need to teach this. Those two years put together the experience to write A STRATEGY OF DAILY STOCK MARKET TIMING FOR MAXIMUM PROFIT which was published by Prentice Hall in 1960. It took the country by storm, going through over 30 printings. It catapulted me to the top of the heap. I did a one hour prime time CBS television interview with Mike Wallace in 1961 and was so outspoken on the show that I was called in by the Hutton management the next day and given a severe lecture, resulting in the first blue penciling of my work. It was at that time that I gave serious thought to leaving Hutton. Having a new book coming out in October 1963 (GRANVILLE’S NEW KEY TO STOCK MARKET PROFITS), I knew that I had to be out of Hutton by then because they had already asked me to revise various parts of my STRATEGY book which did not conform to their traditional way of thinking. In July 1963 I gave them two weeks notice, put Newton Zinder in my place, and left, never to regret the decision for five seconds. I opened a small office opposite City Hall and did business there under the name of The Granville Market Letter from 1963 through the summer of 1966. That summer I crossed the river to Newark and did business there until December 1966. In that month I moved my family to Ormond Beach, Florida. The move out of New York City was to get away from Nelson Rockefeller’s taxes. The second move was to get away from the cold winters.

“THANKS TO MY SPONSORS On February 8, 1939 the great psychic Edgar Cayce of Virginia Beach, Virginia went into a self-induced trance. I was many miles away in Yonkers, New York at that time. What resulted was a life reading which currently is on file at the Association for Research and Enlightenment in Virginia Beach under the File Number [1815], open for inspection by the public. Everything in that life reading has been dramatically fulfilled. On the 41st anniversary of that reading I flew from Sacramento, California to Virginia Beach, Virginia and it turned out to be four of the happiest and thrilling days of my life. I spent several hours doing audio and visual tapes prior to my formal lecture on February 11th. I want to thank all the people of A.R.E. who made made this all possible, especially Hugh Lynn Cayce, Edgar Evans Cayce, Gail Cayce-Schwartzer, and Gladys Turner. JOSEPH GRANVILLE, THE modern-day messiah of the market, has struck again. After flabbergasting Wall Street a fortnight ago with his forecast that the market would shoot up - thereby sending the Dow Jones averages up more than 30 points in one day - Granville has announced to devoted subscribers of his $250-a-year newsletter that three big earthquakes will hit California by May 1981. Granville generally predicts earthquakes one to nine days in advance (he forecast the January 25 Livermore, California, earthquake the day before) but says the bigger they are, the easier they are to call.

Granville, who sounds more like Oral Roberts than Felix Rohatyn, has achieved spectacular success in calling every turn of the stock market since October 1974. He claims to have applied the same charting techniques that made him a cult figure in the financial markets to seismological data collected over the past years. This time, says Granville, we’ll have a quake in May north of San Francisco, one late in the year near Santa Barbara, and the biggest of all - 8.3 on the Richter scale - near Los Angeles in about a year.

Son of Mr. & Mrs […] Name [1815] Born Aug. 20, 1923 in Yonkers Age 15 Life Reading preferred: Time as soon as within reason. Problem: Educational Question 1. Please indicate propensities of this boy and how best to give training. 2. Music is his choice, and he prefers composition. 3. Is he as gifted as he appears? If so, has he the right teacher of piano? 4. Should he complete high school, if so how? At the Gorton High or elsewhere. 5. Is a music school indicated yet. Or should he tutor. If so should different teachers be chosen, or all by one teacher. Please if possible give suggestions. Can you name one? 6. An aside: [1815] dramatizes himself too much I feel, but he is very earnest, and I feel sure he will co-operate in whatever advice you see fit to give.
