This Psychic Reading given by Edgar Cayce at his home on Arctic Crescent, Virginia Beach, Va., this 16th day of February, 1939, in accordance with request made by the self - Mr. [1822], new Associate Member of the Ass”n for Research & Enlightenment, Inc., through wife; recommended by Mrs. [1472] and Mrs. [1602]; sponsored by Edward J. Barber Fund.
[Edgar Cayce; Gertrude Cayce, Conductor; Gladys Davis, Steno.]
Time of Reading 10:50 to 11:10 A. M. Eastern Standard Time. …, New York.
-
GC: You will go over this body carefully, examine it thoroughly, and tell me the conditions you find at the present time; giving the cause of the existing conditions, also suggestions for help and relief of this body. You will answer the questions have been submitted, as I ask them.
-
EC: (Yes - overlooks the drive.)
-
We have the body, [1822].
-
As we find, there are conditions extraordinary which surround the general disturbances with this body.
-
That there has not been the full response to the applications, which have been suggested from one source or another, indicates something of the indecisions that are in the present experience of this body, - and those about same.
-
These conditions indicate, as we find, that there is a growth of a nature that is in the present the lymph sac.
-
As to whether this would become deeper, or more of the nature as to feed upon the very vital forces of the body-functioning, would depend upon the manners in which the mental attitudes are held, - or as to the manner of that taken as the assimilated forces to add to or to cause such drainages and eliminations to be set up as to eradicate the causes AND the effects that have been produced by this unbalanced condition.
-
That there is a strain or drain upon the nerve energy, as well as the blood supply, is indicated by the reactions which occur from time to time.
-
The inability of the body through the physical forces to produce such effects through the mental self as to eradicate the disturbing conditions is not a fault of the SOURCES of supply, but the inability to produce a coordinative nature in the physical, mental and spiritual forces of the body.
-
Just as, a comparison might be drawn upon that as would be illustrated in this: The life or spiritual or creative forces are positive, AND the body-forces in material manifestation negative. To reach that as to where they will not be as combative forces is to unify the purposes, the energies, the activities.
-
As we find, this - as a condition from the pathological application - has not been, or is not fully understood; else there would have been more insistence upon the necessity for the use of operative measures.
-
In the same manner as HE indicated, “If thine hand offend, cut it off - if thine eye offend, pluck it out.”
-
These appear to apply only in the spiritual sense, yet often there are the needs for a VERY material application of same respecting those physical conditions which arise within the experience of individuals.
-
Yet as we find, in this individual case, these measures need NOT be resorted to IF there is a positive coordinating of the influences from without and within the mental forces of this body of [1822].
-
Under the supervision or direction of such an one as Backman, we would have those elemental forces from heat and cold, as derived from the hot and cold packs, with a continued use of oils (Olive Oil) as an absorbent - in between the use of packs.
-
Then the diet would be such as to make for an eliminating of the excesses of inflammatory forces in the system.
-
Thus the condition may be eradicated, if the attitude is kept constructive and consistency is kept in all the influences of body, mind and soul kept in one accord.
-
The diets would be principally those properties found from fruit juices, or fruits combined with the water from oatmeal and whole wheat. Such grains would be crushed, of course, or rolled, and the water stand on same for a few hours; then strained to remove the particles that might produce greater irritation. Such water should be body-temperature, or just warm - but not from the cooked cereal or grain, you see - but from the raw.
-
Of course, this would not be the whole of the diet, but such properties as these would be taken as a consistent activity for the general eliminations.
-
Do these as we find, if we would bring the better influences and forces for this body.
-
If there is NOT the ability for the coordinant forces, the operative measures need be resorted to - for the removal of those conditions through the abdominal areas - or attachments to organs there.
-
Ready for questions.
-
(Q) What special diet would you recommend, other than that indicated? (A) As indicated, fruit juices AND the water from those grains should from the greater part of the eliminant. Hence liquids and semi-liquids, such as broths, juices, cereals and such should form the greater part of the rest of the diet.
The influences from milk are NOT so well, unless these are the fermented natures. Hence curd, clabber, buttermilk and the like may be used.
- We are through for the present.

R1. 2/20/39 EC’s letter to Mr. [1822]‘s wife:
Dear Mrs. […]
Just hope you find something worthwhile in the information gotten for Mr. [1822]. Realize many of your questions were not answered. Some do not come within our scope of work - as combined from the physical reading, and if we are right in our surmise must come from a different source.
Am glad to try and help where ever and when ever we can. Hoping to have been of a service.
Sincerely [signed] Edgar Cayce
R2. 2/22/39 Mrs. [1472]‘s letter:
Mr. [1822] is bringing his Reading over this afternoon to get me to go over it with him. As I am home today I can take the time for it. You are mistaken in your assumption that they want fortune-telling. Both Mr. [1822] and his wife are very spiritually minded people. He has been in rather desperate straights due to the collapse of both his health and his fortune. Also he had never had a Reading and consequently put in some questions that he might not otherwise have asked. As most of his questions had to do with his health, or conditions influencing the health, they seemed to me legitimate questions, and I would be most interested to know why but one questions was answered. Does that often happen? I mean does it often happen that but one question is answered? The ONLY question I suggested was the one about his psychic experience. It occurred to me opening the psychic door might have let in forces which are affecting his health. Hence my question regarding it. The information that comes through him psychically is always of the highest spiritual character. However, when this door is open astral forces may easily get in, and I felt it might be valuable to him in protecting himself if he might know if such was the case with him.
However, the Reading itself may be so comprehensive as to have made the answering of the questions asked unnecessary. Not having yet seen it I don’t know as to this, but am looking forward with interest to seeing the Reading, - which I am to do this afternoon.
R3. 2/24/39 EC’s letter to Mrs. [1472]:
Trust you found sufficient in Mr. [1822]‘s reading to be of real help. Was not an unusual reading as I felt but one if it answered to that something within, might do a world of good. I realize if there is not the answer to the person the information is for, within themselves, then it does little good. That is one - yes - the main reason would like for every person to be present when their reading is given, for they enter the spirit, the vibration of the - TRY - and have it or just don’t and there is little if or and about it.

B1. 2/6/39 QUESTIONS TO BE ASKED IN THE READING OF [1822]:
1: Have I sufficient spiritual knowledge to achieve my healing without the aid of doctors, and if so instruct me as to its application?
2: Is doctor Van Rumpt the right doctor for me? Is his diagnosis correct and will his treatment be effective?
3: Would any especial diet be beneficial to me, and if so what should it include?
3 1/2: Do you find any abnormal growth in abdomen?
4: Are the forces controlling me in psychic readings constructive to my health and welfare, and would it be advisable to increase or decrease the sittings?
[The following questions were crossed out:]
5: When my health is restored what work should I do for the highest service to my family and to humanity?
6: How should we proceed to sell our home at Scarsdale, New York and what price should we ask for it?
7: How can I recover the money loaned my wife’s father?
8: How can I sell my Laver Kirman rug?
9: I will be grateful for advice as to the guidance and proper work for my daughter […] and my son […]?
10: How can I create greater love and harmony between my brother and my own family?
11: For what vocation is my wife best fitted and how can she secure employment in same?
12: Have you any further suggestions for my health and for my greater service?
B2. 2/16/39 Mrs. [1472]‘s letter:
I’m told the [1822]‘s they couldn’t get answers to some of the questions they had on their list to ask for today’s reading, but they insisted on leaving them any way - “just in case”. You should have seen the list they actually brought me! I cut out most of the questions altogether as unsuitable, and trimmed the others down to reasonable length and some degree of clarity - or you would be trying yet to figure them out!
Mrs. […] called me last might to say [1822] (her husband) had had very bad reactions to the treatment of Dr. Van Rumpt, and she had taken him to Dr. Copeland, another chiropractor, with great success. Since one of the questions asked you was whether he should continue with Van Rumpt I advised them to wire you last night that Van Rumpt is no longer in the picture, and ask instead about Copeland. Mr. […] said she felt you would tell [1822] what to do, and your information would know about the change of doctors.
