This psychic reading given by Edgar Cayce at his home on Arctic Crescent, Virginia Beach, Va., this 25th day of February, 1939, in accordance with request made by the self - Dr. [1832], new Associate Member of the Ass”n for Research & Enlightenment, Inc., recommended and sponsored by Miss [1811].
[Edgar Cayce; Gertrude Cayce, Conductor; Gladys Davis, Steno.]
Time of Reading 3:40 to 3:50 P. M. Eastern Standard Time. New York City.
-
GC: You will have before you the body and enquiring mind of [1832], … St., New York City, who seeks information, advice and guidance as to the best procedure to extricate himself from his present business difficulties, as explained in his letter a copy of which I hold in my hand.
-
EC: Yes, we have the body, the enquiring mind, [1832]; and those conditions and circumstances which surround the body, regarding the financial conditions.
-
As we find, many things are to be taken into consideration in giving advice and counsel regarding such conditions.
-
Owing to circumstances and conditions respecting those conditions which arise from the propaganda and the like, we find that there has been an undoing - in a manner - of the body’s efforts.
-
Yet if there will be given sufficient time we find that these may be worked out to a satisfactory conclusion.
-
Or if the body will work with Schieffelin and Company, which would be well for the body to contact THROUGH someone acquainted with or directly in contact with the expansion activity of such an organization, the body may make such connections as to make satisfactory outlet for the abilities of the entity in relationships to those efforts which have been put forth.
-
This may require some time, for the body to become so arranged in the associations as to again reproduce or carry on those phases of its activity.
-
Or there may be the appealing to the body’s or entity’s OWN people; that is, the own outlets through which the body has enjoyed associations in its activities for the distribution of the manufactured products, - but in a way or manner in which there would be rather an enlargement of of the organization that has acted in the capacity for the distribution.
-
Either of these manners, as we find, would offer to the entity - under the circumstances - the best opportunities for extricating self from the present difficulties.
-
(Q) Through whom should he go to contact Schieffelin? (A) The sales force, or the manager of the sales and distributing forces of the organization.
-
(Q) Is there some friend through whom this approach should be made? (A) Best that the entity go to the organization and make the inquiry, and make the direct contact himself.
-
(Q) Just what should he seek through Schieffelin to do? (A) A job!
-
(Q) What through the other channels mentioned? (A) Finances to carry on the organized work.
These are the opportunities as we find for this body.
- We are through for the present.

R1. 2/28/39 EC’s letter to [1832]:
Dear Dr. [1832]:
Hope the information will be helpful that is our whole purpose - wish you could have seen my son and talked with him in person - felt the regular Life reading would not give you anything on the problems before you - so undertook this from a more direct angle. Study this over and if it is not the help you wish - please write me, and we will see what - if any thing, can be done. We wish to help if possible.
Thanking you and trusting every thing will work out in a most satisfactory manner.
Sincerely, Edgar Cayce
R2. 5/25/39 [1832]‘s letter to EC:
Dear Mr. Cayce:
I have been endeavoring to reach your Son here, to talk over your suggestions with him, but so far have been unsuccessful.
You suggested that I contact Schieffelin & Co. This firm is known to me inasmuch as I sell several of my preparations thru them to the retail druggists. However, it is my desire to retain my own business which has been in existence for so very many years. It has great possibilities and requires but a little capital to establish it. I had hoped that your Son might call to see the place and the products and then perhaps he would be able to refer me to some one who might help me. For out of the many products that I have, only one has to be marketed - and a little capital for advertising is all that is necessary to do this. I have everything else to carry on the business.
Thanking you in advance for whatever assistance you can offer me, I remain
Sincerely, Dr. [1832]
R3. 5/27/39 EC’s letter to [1832]:

B1. 2/11/39 [1832]‘s letter to EC:
Mr. Edgar Cayce, Ass’n for Research and Enlightenment, Inc., Virginia Beach, Va.
Dear Mr. Cayce:
I have your letter of the 10th and I shall be glad to have the reading. As per your Son’s suggestion I am giving you the entire history of my business, in the hope that you may be able to help me.
I have been in business since 1918, making toilette specialties and perfume compounds, having been previously in the employ of large firms as manufacturing and consulting chemist. This business was progressing nicely up until the 1929 crash, at which time it started to slow up, since my products were regarded as luxuries and so I turned to the importation of medicinal and pharmaceutical specialities from Germany. These new imported preparations were being favorably accepted here and it seemed that I might make up my losses in the sale of these new preparations. I used whatever money I had to introduce these specialties and just when they were beginning to show promising returns, the German Boycott began and my business started to lose ground and has been going from bad to worse since. I have the entire floor (25 x 100 ft) at the above address, consisting of an experimental laboratory, a manufacturing plant, and two spacious offices. I had several people in my employ for many years and with the loss of business I had to let them go one by one, until only my secretary (Miss […]) who has been with me from the start, is left and together we are trying to keep the business in existence.
Late in 1937 I made connections with a Drug Sundries firm for the promotion of a flame-retarding compound which I had perfected for the treatment of fabrics. The enclosed copy of test made by the U.S. Testing Laboratories is self explanatory. A Corporation was formed early in 1938 with the proprietor of the Drug Sundries firm, and for the financing and promoting of sales for this AntiFlame product, they received 50% of the Corporation. I was to carry on my experiments for the benefit of the new Corporation, - all new resulting products were to become the property of the Corporation and for this I was to receive a weekly salary, for the use of my laboratory I was to receive a monthly check towards payment of the rent and I was to receive a monthly check for the purchases of experimental chemicals, etc. I never received any money for the experimental chemicals and after a few months, the rental checks were discontinued and from January 1st, 1939, the salary was discontinued as well. During the time of my association with the Corporation, I not only had to do all the laboratory work, but the sales promotion as well, since my associate was too busy with his own business to bother. Unfortunately the expected business did not materialize, in spite of the merit of the “AntiFlame” compound. It would seem that I am not a salesman and what I need is someone with outside contacting ability to promote my products. I am tied up with this corporation on this Antiflame product and I am undecided as to what steps to take regarding this association.
As for my other preparations, they have merit. Most of them are sold thru the recommendations of satisfied customers, since I have no money with which to advertise. I have the feeling that I could develop a good business by direct mail (Mail order Business. However, I have no money with which to carry on. I need money and someone with sales ability to promote the various preparations which I manufacture. My time is limited. Last month I received a dispossess and had to borrow the money to prevent my removal. I have had no income this month so it seems that I will have this same difficulty before long. I cannot move, first, because I haven’t the money and secondly, because I spent considerable money in building up this place fifteen years ago. To tear it down for removal would destroy most of the wooden partitions, shelves, bins, counters, etc. and it would be expensive to rebuild even the remained elsewhere.
Miss [1811] spoke very well of you and I have the utmost faith. I shall look forward to the reading on Saturday the 25th (3:30 - 4:30 P.M.). I shall be in my place of business and try to attune myself during that hour.
Thanking you for your courtesy, I am, with kindest regards,
Sincerely Dr. [1832]
P.S: I am enclosing circulars showing the various products which I make, to acquaint you with them.
I understand that your Son is in the City often and would be happy to have him drop in to see the laboratory, whenever it is convenient for him.
