This psychic reading given by Edgar Cayce at his home on Arctic Crescent, Virginia Beach, Va., this 2nd day of March, 1939, in accordance with request made by the self - Mrs. [1835], new Associate Member of the Ass”n for Research & Enlightenment, Inc., recommended by Mrs. [1602] and Mrs. [1833].

1. GC: You will go over this body carefully, examine it thoroughly, and tell me the conditions you find at the present time; giving the cause of the existing conditions, also suggestions for help and relief of this body. You will answer the questions that may be submitted, as I ask them:

2. EC: Yes, we have the body - and those conditions that are disturbing forces and influences with same.

3. As we find, rather than a great deal of material or physical application, the needs here are the care and the attention as may be given by those about the body, - in making such an intercession as to arouse within the body-consciousness the relations of the body-mental and spiritual to the Creative Forces or Influences; and the desire on the part of the entity to so apply same in this material experience as to become and to be a channel through which this consciousness, this awareness may be helpful in the experiences of others.

4. With this awareness aroused, through those about or acquainted with the entity, or who are capable and willing to show that true application of that as He gave, “Love one another,” these as we find are those influences, those forces

that may bring the better physical, mental and spiritual forces about this entity in the present, - [1835].

5. Then, let those who care for same use every effort to bring about this, in the experience of this body in the present.

R1. 3/3/39 EC’s letter to Margaret O’Donnell:

Dear Miss O’Donnell;-

Thank you for your letter regards Mrs. [1835] - that the information was not more in line with material help am sorry, yet am sure from past experiences, is this phase of the experience for Mrs. [1835] as suggested kept in line much good may be accomplished - for all healing must be of the spiritual nature am very sure. Would appreciate a line from you as to how she responds and can be of help in any way please let me know.

R2. 7/25/39 Mrs. [1833]‘s letter to EC:

Dear Mr. Cayce

Some time ago I tried to persuade Mrs. [1835] - Philadelphia

• to get a physical reading from you. She wanted to do so then evidently thought better of it. She has had all the specialists known around there on her case and then thought they had her well. They did an operation about six weeks ago which apparently was successful. Altho she is still in the hospital for various treatments and tests, her poor husband at last thought he could get away for a much needed rest and change and went to Hot Springs. Also her sister left New York and went to Vermont.

Saturday night Mrs. [1835] called up Dr. [2046] in the greatest distress and said she was thru and wanted to be helped out of her misery. He was sick about it of course and tried to jolly her along. Last night she called up again in the middle of the night and I talked with her too. To my amazement she said she had had the reading but could make nothing out of it. This is the difficult and painful part - when there is no one who understands following out the advice. What are we going to do?

I am going down there to-morrow, much as I should not for various reasons - but I have no choice as she said she wanted to see me. She is in the Jefferson Hospital and if there is any chance, I can call you from there. When did you give her the reading?

R3. 7/26/39 EC’s letter to [1833]:

Dear Mrs. [1833]-

Thank you for yours of the 25th - yes we attempted a reading for Mrs. [1835] on Mar. 2nd - 39. The information was that unless there could be aroused in the mental process of the body the desire to live for some definite work, little might be accomplished, from your letter, while it might be hard to understand, evidently must be quite true.

I do not know how to say it very well Mrs. [1833], but know there must be some preparation in the mind of the seeker for information of this nature it isn’t just a routine, but a spiritual consciousness must be there also. Do you understand me, wish might talk this over with you, your husband is one of the few Dr’s that I have known that I would like to risk my life with if it became necessary. So you may know how I feel about you two.

R4. 2/20/40 Mrs. [1833]‘s letter reporting on her husband, [2046]‘s condition: “I am writing to ask you if you ever made the reading for Mrs. [1835] in …, Pa.? She is so desperately ill - has been for over two years and now they’ve taken her to Miami Beach to see if it will help her. She called me on the telephone the other day asking me to send her a wonderful Swedish cook. Her voice was so weak she could hardly manage to talk. How I wish we could do something for her! If you made the reading for her, could we have a copy of it, or would I need her permission? I am sure she would gladly let us see it, but it takes so long to communicate with Miami and she is not in a condition to discuss anything. I’d like so much to have Mrs. [1602] see it and maybe she could throw some light on the subject.”

R5. 2/23/40 EC’s letter to [1833]:

Dear Mrs. [1833]:

Very glad to hear from you and have word from Dr. [2046], certainly glad to know he is able to be out and trust he soon get [his] strength back, and is able to carry on as he would like to.

Yes - we made a reading for Mrs. [1835] - sent you a copy of the reading. Remember your saying so much about her attitude, do hope she will soon be a lot better, should think it would be very much better for her this winter at least in Fla.

We have all had the Flu here, but am thankful to say are on the improve, and able to be back at work again.

R6. 3/12/40 Mrs. [1833]‘s letter to EC:

N.Y. address: …, N.Y.C.

The Flamingo Miami Beach, Florida

Dear Mr. Cayce,

Have not received the copy of Mrs. [1835]‘s reading for said you would send me according to our telephone conversation before I left N.Y. We are staying here because their house is too small for guests. I saw her for 5 minutes yesterday for the first time and was shocked beyond words at the change in her. It’s three years since she’s been ill and 35 doctors have not been able to diagnose her case! This seemed to me a golden opportunity - to do what Mr. Cayce with the readings, since both Dr. [2046] and I are here, and she [tends?] to live in desperation although will even he has not been permitted to see her! She is in an oxygen tent most of the time & hardly EXISTING! It’s the most heart rending case as they’ve done everything possible in the knowledge of the medical profession. I WILL not give up hope but it’s almost impossible to get anywhere on account of the husband’s attitude although she herself wanted the reading done for her. She didn’t understand it at all so I thought I might help out there. We will only be here until Saturday so please send the copy of the reading special delivery air mail for which I am enclosing a stamp. I’m afraid I’ll never see her again unless something drastic is done at once.

Dear Mr. Cayce:

Dear Mr. Cayce -

Thank you for sending Mrs. [1835]‘s reading to me. Unfortunately it arrived just as we were leaving. It is one of the most tragic cases I know of, because she now has no will to live, in fact prays to die! Thirty-five doctors have been unable to diagnose her case, which I am sure Dr. [2046]

could have done. All during her illness, she has screamed for him at intervals but as he has never been called in professionally, he is helpless!

We are delighted to know you are going to be in New York and even tho’ you are visiting in Bronxville. I am hoping very much that we can get you for lunch or dinner so you and Dr. [2046] can have a heart to heart! Any time that you can manage it, we can. Do let me know if there is a possibility? This includes whatever family is with you - of course.

I want to have a life reading for son [2162] who gets home this month for a two weeks holiday. Any time that you can get here is up to April 10 will be all right for us.

Dr. [2046] is easing into practice although slowly with much discouragement.

I feel very strongly that that his illness came for some definite purpose - yet to be revealed!

R8. 3/28/40 EC’s letter to [1833]:

Dear Mrs. [1833]:

Thank you for yours of the 25th - sorry indeed that more might not have been accomplished for [1835] - we oft find much we do not understand in this old world of ours - for “we see through a glass darkly, but THEN we shall see HIM face to face.”

Certainly very lovely of you Mrs. [1833] to wish to have us for lunch but when am working regularly, is very hard for me to get out and go places or talk with others than those coming in from day to day - but certainly am anxious to have a good heart to heart talk with Dr. [2046] for think a great deal of him and his opinions. So we will have to possibly let circumstance take their course, with the thought we will try and make our plans fit in to an opportunity to have this talk.

Do hope he is still feeling much better, and that you are fine hoping then to see each of you in the near future. With a world of thanks

R10. 12/2/40 [1833]‘s letter to EC:

Dear Mr. Cayce:

Yesterday we saw Mr. […] in Philadelphia - but could not see [1835] - who is in the Jefferson Hospital. Her condition is desperate & altho we could not consult with her, her husband said he would like to have the check reading done. He also said he thought the doctors would welcome any suggestions and would follow them. They have never diagnosed her case! I would give anything to do something for her as she is one of my oldest & dearest friends. But no time can be lost as she is failing rapidly. I told […] yesterday, miracles still happen and he is anxious to try. His address is …, Philadelphia, Pa. His wife is in the Jefferson hospital in Philadelphia.

I am mailing you my check for $10.00 as soon as I can get to the bank for a new check book. Am laid up with a terrific cold at present.

You have the the old reading with the necessary data which I don’t know. I hope very much you will be able to get this reading in at once, otherwise it may be too late!

It was lovely seeing you again and I am so glad my husband could get out here too. We are surely coming to see you sometime. Soon I hope with best wishes,

B2. 2/27/39 Nurse’s letter to EC:

Jefferson Hospital Philadelphia, Penna. 9th & Sansom Street

Dear Mr. Cayce:-

Your note reached Mrs. [1835] at the Jefferson Hospital, Phila., Pa. where she will be on Thursday March 2nd. She is gratefully to you for giving her instant consideration and will indeed meditate between 10:30 and 11:30 on that date. She is a very devout person receiving communion three times a week. A question which is utmost important is a diagnosis and treatment of her case? The Doctors have been helpful to a certain point and then it seems everything comes to a standstill. I am her nurse and we will all be very grateful to you for any help you may render.
